1 The elders who are among you I exhort, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed;
1 Therefore, I beg the elders who are among you, as one who is also an elder and a witness of the Passion of Christ, who also shares in that glory which is to be revealed in the future
2 shepherd the flock of God among you, overseeing not by compulsion, but rather willingly, not in fondness for dishonest gain, but rather eagerly;
2 Tend the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not of constraint, but willingly, according to [the will of] God; nor yet for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
3 nor as being masters over the flock [under you,] but rather being examples to the flock.
3 not so as to dominate by means of the clerical state, but so as to be formed into a flock from the heart.
3 Live not as overlords over the flock, but as good examples to them.
4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
