17 This I say, therefore, and testify in YHWH, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
17 And so, I say this, and I testify in the Lord: that from now on you should walk, not as the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18 having been darkened in understanding, being estranged from the life of God, because of the ignorance which is in them, because of the hardness of their heart;
18 And whose understanding is dark, and who are alienated from the life of God, because they have no knowledge, and because of the blindness of their hearts;
19 who, having become callous, gave themselves over to debauchery, for the working of uncleanness with utmost greediness.
19 Such as these, despairing, have given themselves over to sexual immorality, carrying out every impurity with rapacity.
19 And who have given up their hope, and have surrendered themselves to wantonness, and to the practice of all uncleanness in their covetousness.
20 But you did not thus learn Christ,
20 But this is not what you have learned in Christ.
20 But that is not what you have been taught about Christ;
21 if indeed you have heard Him and were instructed by Him, just as the truth is in Jesus
21 For certainly, you have listened to him, and you have been instructed in him, according to the truth that is in Jesus
21 If you have truly heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is found in Jesus
22 that you put off, concerning your former way of life, the old man which is being corrupted according to the deceitful lusts,
22 to set aside your earlier behavior, the former man, who was corrupted, by means of desire, unto error,
23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
24 and that you put on the new man which was created in the likeness of God, in true righteousness and holiness.
24 and put on the new man, that after God hath been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.
24 and so put on the new man, who, in accord with God, is created in justice and in the holiness of truth.
25 Therefore, having put off falsehood, "Let each one speak truth with his neighbor,"for we are members of one another.
25 Wherefore, putting away falsehood, speak ye truth each one with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.
25 Because of this, setting aside lying, speak the truth, each one with his neighbor. For we are all part of one another.
26 "Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun set on your anger,
26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath
26 “Be angry, but do not be willing to sin.” Do not let the sun set over your anger.
27 nor give opportunity to the devil.
27 neither give place to the devil.
27 And do not give the devil a chance.
28 Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working that which is good with his hands, in order that he may have something to share with him who has need.
29 Let no corrupt word proceed from your mouth, but only what is good for edification, that it may give grace to them that hear.
29 Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for edifying as the need may be, that it may give grace to them that hear.
29 Let no evil words proceed from your mouth, but only what is good, toward the edification of faith, so as to bestow grace upon those who listen.
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
30 And do not be willing to grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you have been sealed, unto the day of redemption.
31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and blasphemy be removed from you, with all malice.
31 Let all bitterness and anger and indignation and outcry and blasphemy be taken away from you, along with all malice.
32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as also God in Christ forgave us.
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
5:1 Therefore be imitators of God as beloved children.
1 Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children;
1 BE therefore God-like, as beloved chil dren.
5:2 And walk in love, just as Christ also loved us and gave Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a fragrant aroma.
5:3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;
3 But let not any kind of fornication, or impurity, or rapacity so much as be named among you, just as is worthy of the saints,
3 But let not immorality or any uncleanness or covetousness be heard of among you, as becomes saints;
5:4 neither wickedness, nor foolish talk or coarse jesting, which are not proper, but rather thanksgiving.
4 nor any indecent, or foolish, or abusive talk, for this is without purpose; but instead, give thanks.
4 Neither cursing, nor foolish words, nor insults, nor words of flattery, none of which are necessary: but instead of these, let thanks be offered.
5:5 For this you know, that no fornicator, or unclean person, nor covetous person, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
5 For know and understand this: no one who is a fornicator, or lustful, or rapacious (for these are a kind of service to idols) holds an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
5 You should know this: that no one guilty of fornication, or unclean person, or covetous man who serves idols, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
5:6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
5:7 Therefore do not be participants with them.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them;
5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in YHWH. Walk as children of light-
8 For previously you were ignorant, but now you have been enlightened by our LORD, and should live therefore like children of light.
5:9 for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth,
5:10 proving what is well-pleasing to YHWH.
10 affirming what is well-pleasing to God.
10 And so you must discern that which is acceptable before our LORD.
5:11 And have no partnership with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose [them].
11 And so, have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead, refute them.
11 Have no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather condemn them.
5:12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things being done by them in secret.
12 for the things which are done by them in secret it is a shame even to speak of.
5:13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.
13 For all things that are condemned are exposed by the light: and anything that is made manifest is light.
5:14 Therefore He says: "Awake, you who are sleeping, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."
14 Wherefore [he] saith, Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall shine upon thee.
14 Because of this, it is said: “You who are sleeping: awaken, and rise up from the dead, and so shall the Christ enlighten you.”
5:15 See then that you walk carefully, not as unwise, but as wise,
15 And so, brothers, see to it that you walk cautiously, not like the foolish,
5:16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
16 but like the wise: atoning for this age, because this is an evil time.
16 Who take advantage of their opportunity, for these are difficult days.
5:17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of YHWH [is].
17 Wherefore be ye not foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
17 For this reason, do not choose to be imprudent. Instead, understand what is the will of God.
5:18 And do not get drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,
18 And be not drunken with wine, wherein is riot, but be filled with the Spirit;
18 And do not choose to be inebriated by wine, for this is self-indulgence. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,
5:19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to YHWH,
19 speaking among yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual canticles, singing and reciting psalms to the Lord in your hearts,
