After saying these things, Jesus went out with His disciples across the winter stream Kidron, where there[ was] a garden, into which He and His disciples entered.

When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where was a garden, into which he entered, himself and his disciples.

Now Judas, the [one] betraying Him, also knew the place, because Jesus often gathered there also with His disciples.

Judas the traitor also knew that place; because Jesus and his disciples frequently gathered there.

And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.

Then Judas, having taken the detachment [of soldiers], and attendants from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.

Judas, therefore, took a company of soldiers, and also guards from the high priests and the Pharisees, and he came there with torches and lamps and weapons.

Jesus therefore, knowing all things coming upon Him, went out and said to them, "Whom do you seek?"

And so Jesus, knowing all that was about to happen to him, advanced and said to them, “Who are you seeking?”

Jesus, knowing everything that was to happen, went out and said to them. Whom do you want?

As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.

Then again he questioned them: “Who are you seeking?” And they said, “Jesus the Nazarene.”

Jesus again asked them, Whom do you want? They said, Jesus the Nazarene.

Jesus answered, "I have told you that I AM! Therefore if you seek Me, allow these [men] to go,"

Jesus responded: “I told you that I am he. Therefore, if you are seeking me, permit these others to go away.”

Jesus said to them, I have told you that I am he; if then you want me, let these men go away;

so that the word might be fulfilled which He said, "[Those] whom You have given Me I have lost none."

that the word might be fulfilled which he spake, Of those whom thou hast given me I lost not one.

This was so that the word might be fulfilled, which he said, “Of those whom you have given to me, I have not lost any of them.”

10  Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. And the servant's name was Malchus.

11  Then Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?"

11  Jesus therefore said unto Peter, Put up the sword into the sheath: the cup which the Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

11  Therefore, Jesus said to Peter: “Set your sword into the scabbard. Should I not drink the chalice which my father has given to me?”

12  Then the detachment [of soldiers] and the captain and the attendants of the Jews arrested Jesus and bound Him.

12  So the band and the chief captain, and the officers of the Jews, seized Jesus and bound him,

13  And they led Him away to Annas first, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas who was high priest that year.

14  Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was profitable for one man to perish for the people.

14  Now Caiaphas was he that gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

15  And Simon Peter was following Jesus, as was the other disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest.

15  Simon Peter and one of the other disciples followed Jesus. The high priest knew that disciple, so he entered with Jesus into the courtyard.

16  But Peter stood at the door outside. Then the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the doorkeeper, and brought Peter in.

16  But Peter was standing outside at the entrance. Therefore, the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the woman who was the doorkeeper, and he led in Peter.

16  But Simon stood outside near the door. Then the other disciple, whom the high priest knew, went out and told the portress, and brought in Simon.

17  Then the servant girl who kept the door said to Peter, "You are not also one of this Man's disciples, [are you]?"He said, "I am not."

18  And the servants and attendants who had made a fire of coals stood there, for it was cold, and they were warming themselves. Now Peter was standing with them and warming himself.

18  Now the servants and the officers were standing [there], having made a fire of coals; for it was cold; and they were warming themselves: and Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself.

18  And the servants and guards were standing and making a fire, to warm themselves because it was cold; Simon also stood with them and warmed himself.

19  Then high priest asked Jesus about His disciples and His doctrine.

20  Jesus answered him, "I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always come together, and in secret I spoke nothing.

20  Jesus responded to him: “I have spoken openly to the world. I have always taught in the synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews meet. And I have said nothing in secret.

21  Why do you question Me? Question those who have heard Me, what I spoke to them. Indeed they know what I said."

21  Why askest thou me? Ask them that have heard [me], what I spake unto them: behold, these know the things which I said.

21  Why do you ask me? ask those who heard what I have spoken to them; behold, they know everything which I said.

22  And when He had said these things, one of the attendants who stood by slapped Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, "Is this how You answer the high priest?"

22  Then, when he had said this, one the attendants standing nearby struck Jesus, saying: “Is this the way you answer the high priest?”

23  Jesus answered him, "If I have spoken evil, testify of the evil; but if well, why do you strike Me?"

23  Jesus answered him: “If I have spoken wrongly, offer testimony about the wrong. But if I have spoken correctly, then why do you strike me?”

23  Jesus answered and said to him, If I have spoken any evil, testify to the evil; but if it is good, why did you strike me?

25  Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. Therefore they said to him, "You are not also [one] of His disciples, [are you]?"Then he denied it and said, "I am not!"

25  And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.

26  One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of him whose ear Peter cut off, said, "Did I not see you in the garden with Him?"

27  Peter then denied again; and immediately a rooster crowed.

27  Therefore, again, Peter denied it. And immediately the rooster crowed.

28  Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium, and it was early morning. But they themselves did not enter into the Praetorium, lest they might be defiled, but so that they might eat the Passover.

28  Then they brought Jesus from Caiaphas to the praetorium; and it was morning; and they did not enter into the praetorium, so that they may not be defiled before they ate the passover.

28  Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.

29  Then Pilate went out to them and said, "What accusation do you bring against this Man?"

29  Pilate then went outside where they were, and said to them, What accusation do you have against this man?

30  They answered and said to him, "If He were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him over to you."

31  Then Pilate said to them, "You take Him and judge Him according to your law."Therefore the Jews said to him, "It is not lawful for us to kill anyone,"

32  that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled which He said, signifying by what sort of death He was about to die.

33  Then Pilate entered the Praetorium again, and called Jesus, and said to Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?"

33  Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?

34  Jesus answered him, "For yourself do you say this, or did others tell you about Me?"

35  Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?"

35  Pilate said to him, Why, am I a Jew? Your own people and the high priests have delivered you to me; what have you done?

36  Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I might not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here."

36  Jesus responded: “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my ministers would certainly strive so that I would not be handed over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not now from here.”

37  Pilate therefore said to Him, "Are You a king then?"Jesus answered, "You say [rightly] that I am a king. For this [reason] I have been born, and for this [reason] I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."

37  And so Pilate said to him, “You are a king, then?” Jesus answered, “You are saying that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world: so that I may offer testimony to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice.”

37  Pilate said to him, Then are you a king? Jesus said to him, You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this very thing I came to the world, that I may bear witness concerning the truth. Whoever is of the truth will hear my voice.

38  Pilate said to Him, "What is truth?"And having said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, "I find no fault in Him.
