1 A Psalm of David. Fret not thyself because of evil-doers, neither be thou envious against them that work unrighteousness.
1 A Psalm of David himself. Do not choose to imitate the malicious; neither should you envy those who work iniquity.
1 FRET not because of evildoers, neither be envious of the workers of iniquity,
2 For they shall soon wither like the grass, and fade as the green herb.
2 For they will quickly wither away like dry grass, and in like manner to kitchen herbs, they will soon droop.
3 Trust in YHWH, and do good; dwell in the land, and cherish faithfulness.
3 Hope in the Lord, and do good; and dwell on the land, and thou shalt be fed with the wealth of it.
4 So shalt thou delight thyself in YHWH; and He shall give thee the petitions of thy heart.
4 Delight in the Lord, and he will grant to you the petitions of your heart.
5 Commit thy way unto YHWH; trust also in Him, and He will bring it to pass.
5 Disclose thy way to the Lord, and hope in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
5 Reveal your way to the Lord, and hope in him, and he will accomplish it.
6 And He will make thy righteousness to go forth as the light, and thy right as the noonday.
6 And he will bring forth your justice like the light, and your judgment like the midday.
6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your judgment as the noonday.
7 Resign thyself unto YHWH, and wait patiently for Him; fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
7 Be subject to the Lord and pray to him. Do not choose to compete with him who prospers in his way, with the man who does injustice.
7 Seek the LORD, and pray before him; envy not the man who does evil, and prospers in his way.
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; fret not thyself, it tendeth only to evil-doing.
8 Cease from wrath and leave behind rage. Do not choose to imitate the malicious.
9 For evil-doers shall be cut off; but those that wait for YHWH, they shall inherit the land.
9 For those who are malicious will be exterminated. But those who remain with the Lord, these will inherit the land.
10 And yet a little while, and the wicked is no more; yea, thou shalt look well at his place, and he is not.
10 Yet still a little while, and the sinner will not be. And you will search his place and find nothing.
10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall be no more: yea, you shall look for his place, and you shall not find it.
11 But the humble shall inherit the land, and delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
11 But the meek shall inherit the earth, and they will delight in the multitude of peace.
12 The wicked plotteth against the righteous, and gnasheth at him with his teeth.
12 The sinner will watch for the righteous, and gnash his teeth upon him.
13 YHWH doth laugh at him; for He seeth that his day is coming.
13 But the Lord shall laugh at him: for he foresees that his day will come.
13 The LORD shall laugh at him; for he sees that his day is coming.
14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow; to cast down the poor and needy, to slay such as are upright in the way;
14 Sinners have drawn their swords, they have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy one, and to slay the upright in heart.
14 The sinners have drawn the sword, they have bent their bow, so as to cast down the poor and the needy, so as to massacre the upright of heart.
15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.
15 Let their sword enter into their own hearts, and let their bow be broken.
16 Better is a little that the righteous hath than the abundance of many wicked.
16 A little is better to the righteous than abundant wealth of sinners.
16 A little that a righteous man has is better than the great riches of the wicked.
17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken; but YHWH upholdeth the righteous.
17 For the arms of sinners will be crushed, but the Lord confirms the just.
18 YHWH knoweth the days of them that are wholehearted; and their inheritance shall be for ever.
18 The Lord knows the ways of the perfect; and their inheritance shall be for ever.
19 They shall not be ashamed in the time of evil; and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
19 They will not be confounded in an evil time; and in days of famine, they will be satisfied
20 For the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of YHWH shall be as the fat of lambs--they shall pass away in smoke, they shall pass away.
20 For the sinners shall perish; and the enemies of the Lord at the moment of their being honoured and exalted have utterly vanished like smoke.
20 for sinners will perish. Truly, the adversaries of the Lord, soon after they have been honored and exalted, will fade away, in the same way that smoke fades away.
21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth not; but the righteous dealeth graciously, and giveth.
21 The sinner borrows, and will not pay again: but the righteous has compassion, and gives.
21 The sinner will lend and not release, but the just one shows compassion and donates.
22 For such as are blessed of Him shall inherit the land; and they that are cursed of Him shall be cut off.
22 For they that bless him shall inherit the earth; and they that curse him shall be utterly destroyed.
22 For those who bless him will inherit the earth, but those who curse him will perish.
23 It is of YHWH that a man's goings are established; and He delighted in his way.
23 The steps of a man are rightly ordered by the Lord: and he will take pleasure in his way.
23 The steps of a good man are established by the LORD; he sets his course.
24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for YHWH upholdeth his hand.
24 When he falls, he shall not be ruined: for the Lord supports his hand.
25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
25 I was once young, indeed I am now old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed seeking bread.
26 All the day long he dealeth graciously, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.
26 He shows compassion and lends, all day long, and his offspring will be in blessing.
26 But he is ever merciful and lends; and his offspring is blessed.
27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.
27 Turn aside from evil, and do good; and dwell for ever.
28 For YHWH loveth justice, and forsaketh not His saints; they are preserved for ever; but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
28 For the Lord loves judgement, and will not forsake his saints; they shall be preserved for ever: the blameless shall be avenged, but the seed of the ungodly shall be utterly destroyed.
29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.
29 But the righteous shall inherit the earth, and dwell upon it for ever.
29 But the just will inherit the earth, and they will dwell upon it forever and ever.
30 The mouth of the righteous uttereth wisdom, and his tongue speaketh justice.
31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps slide.
32 The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.
32 The sinner considers the just one and seeks to put him to death.
33 YHWH will not leave him in his hand, nor suffer him to be condemned when he is judged.
33 But the Lord will not leave him in his hands, nor by any means condemn him when he is judged.
33 The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.
34 Wait for YHWH, and keep His way, and He will exalt thee to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.
34 Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are destroyed, thou shalt see it.
34 Wait for the Lord, and keep to his way. And he will exalt you, so as to inherit the land that you may seize. When the sinners will have passed away, then you shall see.
35 I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a leafy tree in its native soil.
35 I saw the ungodly very highly exalting himself, and lifting himself up like the cedars of Libanus.
35 For I have seen the wicked boasting and spreading himself like stout forest trees;
36 But one passed by, and, lo, he was not; yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.
36 Yet I passed by, and lo! he was not: and I sought him, but his place was not found.
36 And I passed by, and behold, he was not. And I sought him, and his place was not found.
37 Mark the man of integrity, and behold the upright; for there is a future for the man of peace.
37 Maintain innocence, and behold uprightness: for there is a remnant to the peaceable man.
37 Uphold the perfect and select the upright; for there is a good end for peaceful men.
38 But transgressors shall be destroyed together; the future of the wicked shall be cut off.
38 But the transgressors shall be utterly destroyed together: the remnants of the ungodly shall be utterly destroyed.
38 But the unjust will be destroyed together: the allotments of the impious will pass away.
39 But the salvation of the righteous is of YHWH; He is their stronghold in the time of trouble.
40 And YHWH helpeth them, and delivereth them; He delivereth them from the wicked, and saveth them, because they have taken refuge in Him.
40 And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: and he shall rescue them from sinners, and save them, because they have hoped in him.
