23  Also, the sons of the one half tribe of Manasseh possessed the land, from the parts of Bashan as far as Baal, Hermon, and Sanir, and Mount Hermon. For certainly, their number was immense.

11  Now Azariah conceived Amariah, and Amariah conceived Ahitub.

6:12  and Ahitub begot Zadok, and Zadok begot Shallum;

12  and Achitob begot Sadoc, and Sadoc begot Salom;

12  Ahitub conceived Zadok, and Zadok conceived Shallum.

6:13  and Shallum begot Hilkiah, and Hilkiah begot Azariah;

13  and Salom begot Chelcias, and Chelcias begot Azarias;

13  Shallum conceived Hilkiah, and Hilkiah conceived Azariah.

6:14  and Azariah begot Seraiah, and Seraiah begot Jehozadak;

14  and Azarias begot Saraia, and Saraias begot Josadac.

14  Azariah conceived Seraiah, and Seraiah conceived Jehozadak.

6:15  and Jehozadak went into captivity, when YHWH carried away Judah and Jerusalem by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.

15  And Josadac went into captivity with Juda and Jerusalem under Nabuchodonosor.

6:16  The sons of Levi: Gershom, Kohath and Merari.

16  So the sons of Levi were Gershom, Kohath, and Merari.

6:17  And these are the names of the sons of Gershom: Libni, and Shimei.

6:18  And the sons of Kohath were Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel.

18  The sons of Caath; Ambram, and Issaar, Chebron, and Oziel.

6:19  The sons of Merari: Mahli, and Mushi. And these are the families of the Levites according to their fathers' houses.

6:20  Of Gershom: Libni his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah his son;

20  To Gedson—to Lobeni his son—were born Jeth his son, Zammath his son,

6:34  the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah;

6:36  the son of Elkanah, the son of Joel, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah;

6:37  the son of Tahath, the son of Assir, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah;

6:38  the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, the son of Israel.

6:39  And his brother Asaph, who stood on his right hand; even Asaph the son of Berechiah, the son of Shimea;

39  And there was also his brother, Asaph, who was standing at his right, Asaph, the son of Berechiah, the son of Shimea,

6:40  the son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah, the son of Malchijah;

6:41  the son of Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah;

6:42  the son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah, the son of Shimei;

42  the son of Adai, the son of Ætham, the son of Zammam, the son of Semei,

6:44  And on the left hand their brethren the sons of Merari: Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch;

44  Now the sons of Merari, their brothers, were on the left: Ethan, the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch,

6:45  the son of Hashabiah, the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah;

45  the son of Asebi,

6:46  the son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shemer;

6:47  the son of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi.

6:48  And their brethren the Levites were appointed for all the service of the tabernacle of the house of God.

48  There were also their brothers, Levites who were appointed for every ministry of the tabernacle of the house of the Lord.

6:49  But Aaron and his sons offered upon the altar of burnt-offering, and upon the altar of incense, for all the work of the most holy place, and to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.

49  And Aaron and his sons were to burn incense on the altar of whole-burnt-offerings, and on the altar of incense, for all the ministry in the holy of holies, and to make atonement for Israel, according to all things that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded.

49  Truly, Aaron and his sons were burning offerings upon the altar of holocausts and upon the altar of incense, for the entire work of the Holy of Holies, and to pray on behalf of Israel, in accord with all the things that Moses, the servant of God, had instructed.

6:50  And these are the sons of Aaron: Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son;

6:54  Now these are their dwelling-places according to their encampments in their borders: to the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites, for theirs was the first lot,

54  And these are their residences in their villages, in their coasts, to the sons of Aaron, to their family the Caathites: for they had the lot.

6:55  to them they gave Hebron in the land of Judah, and the open land round about it;

55  And they gave them Chebron in the land of Juda, and its suburbs round about it.

6:56  but the fields of the city, and the villages thereof, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

56  But all the fields of the city, and those which were round about it, they gave to Caleb the son of Jophaniah.

6:57  And to the sons of Aaron they gave the city of refuge, Hebron; Libnah also with the open land about it, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa with the open land about it;

57  Then, to the sons of Aaron, they gave the cities of refuge: Hebron, and Libnah with its suburbs,

57  And to the sons of Aaron they gave all the cities of refuge, and to the priests, Hebron with its suburbs, Libnah with its suburbs, Jattir with its suburbs, Lehem with its suburbs, Eshtemoa with its suburbs,

6:58  and Hilen with the open land about it, Debir with the open land about it;

58  and Jethar and her suburbs, and Dabir and her suburbs,

58  Debir with its suburbs, Ashan with its suburbs,

6:59  and Ashan with the open land about it, and Beth-shemesh with the open land about it;

59  and Asan and her suburbs, and Baethsamys and her suburbs

59  as well as Ashan and Beth-shemesh with their suburbs.

6:60  and out of the tribe of Benjamin: Geba with the open land about it, and Alemeth with the open land about it, and Anathoth with the open land about it. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities.

60  and of the tribe of Benjamin Gabai and her suburbs, and Galemath and her suburbs, and Anathoth and her suburbs: all their cities were thirteen cities according to their families.

60  And from the tribe of Benjamin: Geba with its suburbs, and Alemeth with its suburbs, as well as Anathoth with its suburbs. All the cities throughout their kindred were thirteen.

6:61  And unto the rest of the sons of Kohath were given by lot, out of the family of the tribe, out of the half-tribe, the half of Manasseh, ten cities.

61  Now to the sons of Kohath, those remaining from their kindred, they gave ten cities, from the one half tribe of Manasseh, as a possession;

6:62  And to the sons of Gershom, according to their families, out of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities.

6:63  Unto the sons of Merari were given by lot, according to their families, out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.

63  Then to the sons of Merari, according to their families, from the tribe of Reuben, and from the tribe of Gad, and from the tribe of Zebulun, they gave by lot twelve cities.

6:64  So the children of Israel gave to the Levites the cities with the open land about them.

64  Also, the sons of Israel gave, to the Levites, cities and their suburbs,

6:65  And they gave by lot out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, and out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, these cities which are mentioned by name.

6:66  And some of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities of their borders out of the tribe of Ephraim.

66  Moreover they had other cities and their territory out of the tribe of Ephraim.

6:67  And they gave unto them the city of refuge, Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim with the open land about it; Gezer also with the open land about it;

70  Then too, out of the one half tribe of Manasseh: Aner and its suburbs, Bileam and its suburbs; these in particular went to those who were remaining from the kindred of the sons of Kohath.

6:71  Unto the sons of Gershom were given, out of the family of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with the open land about it, and Ashtaroth with the open land about it;

71  To the sons of Gedson from the families of the half-tribe of Manasse they gave Golan of Basan and her suburbs, and Aseroth and her suburbs.

71  And to the sons of Gershom, from the kindred of the one half tribe of Manasseh: Golan, in Bashan, and its suburbs, and Ashtaroth with its suburbs;

6:72  and out of the tribe of Issachar: Kedesh with the open land about it, Dobrath with the open land about it;

6:78  and beyond the Jordan at Jericho, on the east side of the Jordan, were given them, out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the wilderness with the open land about it, and Jahaz with the open land about it,

78  out of the country beyond Jordan; Jericho westward of Jordan: out of the tribe of Ruben; Bosor in the wilderness and her suburbs, and Jasa and her suburbs,

7:3  And the sons of Uzzi: Izrahiah; and the sons of Izrahiah: Michael, and Obadiah, and Joel, Isshiah, five; all of them chief men.

7:5  And their brethren among all the families of Issachar, mighty men of valour, reckoned in all by genealogy, were fourscore and seven thousand.

8  And the sons of Akbar: Zemora, Joash, Eliezer, Elioenai, Omri, Jermoth, Abijah, Anathoth, and Alamoth. All these were the sons of Akbar.

7:9  And they were reckoned by genealogy, after their generations, heads of their fathers' houses, mighty men of valour, twenty thousand and two hundred.

9  And their number according to their generations, (they were chiefs of their fathers’ houses, men of might), was twenty thousand and two hundred.

9  And they were numbered according to their families, by the leaders of their kindred, very strong in warfare, twenty thousand and two hundred.

7:10  And the sons of Jediael: Bilhan; and the sons of Bilhan: Jeush, and Benjamin, and Ehud, and Chenaanah, and Zethan, and Tarshish, and Ahishahar.

7:11  All these were sons of Jediael, even heads of their fathers' houses, mighty men of valour, seventeen thousand and two hundred, that were able to go forth in the host for war.

7:15  and Machir took a wife of Huppim and Shuppim, whose sister's name was Maacah--and the name of the second was Zelophehad; and Zelophehad had daughters.

15  And Machir took a wife for Apphin and Sapphin, and his sister’s name was Moocha; and the name of the second son was Sapphaad; and to Sapphaad were born daughters.

15  Now Machir took wives for his sons, Huppim and Shuppim. And he had a sister named Maacah; but the name of the second was Zelophehad, and daughters were born to Zelophehad.

7:16  And Maacah the wife of Machir bore a son, and she called his name Peresh; and the name of his brother was Sheresh; and his sons were Ulam and Rekem.

40  And the sons of Ælam were mighty men, bending the bow, and multiplying sons and grandsons, a hundred and fifty. All these were of the sons of Benjamin.

40  All these are of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin.

9:1  So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel; and Judah was carried away captive to Babylon because of their transgression.

1  And this is all Israel, even their enrolment: and these are written down in the book of the kings of Israel and Juda, with the names of them that were carried away to Babylon for their transgressions.

1  SO all Israel and Judah were considered wicked, for they were carried captive to Babylon because of their wickedness.

9:2  Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, Israelites, the priests, the Levites, and the Nethinim.

2  And they that dwelt before in their possessions in the cities of Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the appointed ones.

9:3  And in Jerusalem dwelt of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim and Manasseh

3  Staying in Jerusalem were some from the sons of Judah, and from the sons of Benjamin, and also from the sons of Ephraim and of Manasseh

9:4  Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Perez the son of Judah.

4  And Gnothi, and the son of Samiud, the son of Amri, the son of Ambraim, the son of Buni, son of the sons of Phares, the son of Juda.

9:10  And of the priests: Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, and Jachin;

9:11  and Azariah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the ruler of the house of God;

15  Of the descendants of Merari: Jarhum the son of Hadush, the son of Alal, and Mattaniah the son of Micah, the son of Zabdai, the son of Asaph;

9:16  and Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites.

16  and Abdia, son of Samia, son of Galaal, son of Idithun, and Barachia son of Ossa, son of Helcana—who dwelt in the villages of the Notephatites.

9:17  And the porters: Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brother Shallum the chief;

17  The door-keepers; Salom, Acum, Telmon, and Diman, and their brethren; Salom was the chief;

17  Now the gatekeepers were Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman; and their brother Shallum was the leader.

9:18  who hitherto waited in the king's gate eastward; they were the porters for the camp of the children of Levi.

18  and he waited hitherto in the king’s gate eastward: these are the gates of the companies of the sons of Levi.

18  For until that time, at the gate of the king to the east, the sons of Levi served in their turns.

9:19  And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, of his father's house, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the Tent; and their fathers had been over the camp of YHWH, keepers of the entry;

19  And Sellum the son of Core, the son of Abiasaph, the son of Core, and his brethren belonging to the house of his father, the Corites were over the works of the service, keeping the watches of the tabernacle, and their fathers over the camp of the Lord, keeping the entrance.

19  Truly, Shallum, the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, with his brothers and his father’s house, these Korahites, were over the works of the ministry of keeping the vestibules of the tabernacle. And their families, in turns, were keepers of the entrance to the camp of the Lord.

9:20  and Phinehas the son of Eleazar was ruler over them in time past, YHWH being with him.

20  And Phinees son of Eleazar was head over them before the Lord, and these were with him.

20  Now Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, was their ruler before the Lord.

9:21  Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was porter of the door of the tent of meeting.

21  But Zechariah, the son of Meshelemiah, was the keeper of the gate of the tabernacle of the testimony.

21  And Zechariah the son of Meshallum was porter of the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

9:22  All these that were chosen to be porters in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their set office.

9:23  So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of YHWH, even the house of the Tent, by wards.

23  as with them, so also with their sons, at the gates of the house of the Lord and the tabernacle, by their turns.

23  For they appointed them and their sons to keep the gates of the house of the LORD and the house of the tabernacle of the congregation, as guards.

9:24  On the four sides were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south.

24  The gates were toward the four winds, eastward, westward, northward, southward.

24  At the four directions, there were gatekeepers, that is, at the east, and at the west, and at the north, and at the south.

9:25  And their brethren, in their villages, were to come in every seven days from time to time to be with them;

25  Now their brothers were staying in the villages, and they arrived on their Sabbaths, from time to time.

25  And their brethren who kept the watch in their generation did not enter into the temple except once every seven days from time to time,

9:26  for the four chief porters were in a set office. These were the Levites. They were also over the chambers and over the treasuries in the house of God.

26  To these four Levites were entrusted the entire number of the gatekeepers, and they were over the chambers and storehouses of the house of the Lord.

26  For these Levites were in their set office, and were in charge of the four gates in the four directions; and stood on guard, and were over the work and over the treasuries of the house of the LORD.

9:27  And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge thereof was upon them, and to them pertained the opening thereof morning by morning.

27  For the charge was upon them, and these were charged with the keys to open the doors of the temple every morning.

27  And they remained in their watches, on all sides of the temple of the Lord, so that, when the time had arrived, they might open the gates in the morning.

9:28  And certain of them had charge of the vessels of service; for by tale were they brought in and by tale were they taken out.

28  And some of them were appointed over the vessels of service, that they should carry them in by number, and carry them out by number.

28  Some from their kindred were also over the vessels of the ministry. For the vessels were both carried in and carried out according to number.

9:29  Some of them also were appointed over the furniture, and over all the holy vessels, and over the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices.

29  And some of the Levites were appointed over the vessels and over all the instruments of the sanctuary, over the altar and the vessels, the wine, the oil, the frankincense, and the pure spices.

9:30  And some of the sons of the priests prepared the confection of the spices.

30  Now the sons of the priests composed the ointments from the aromatics.

9:31  And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the set office over the things that were baked on griddles.

31  And Matthathias of the Levites, (he was the first-born of Salom the Corite,) was set in charge over the sacrifices of meat-offering of the pan belonging to the high priest.

31  And Mattithiah, a Levite, the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, was in charge of those things that were cooked in a frying pan.

9:32  And some of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the showbread, to prepare it every sabbath.

32  Now some of the sons of Kohath, their brothers, were over the bread of the presence, so that they might continually prepare it new for each Sabbath.

9:33  And these are the singers, heads of fathers' houses of the Levites, who dwelt in the chambers and were free from other service; for they were employed in their work day and night.

33  These are the leaders of the singing men, according to the families of the Levites, who were dwelling in the chambers, so that they might carry out their ministry continually, day and night.

9:34  These were heads of fathers' houses of the Levites, by their generations, chief men; these dwelt at Jerusalem.

34  The heads of the Levites, leaders according to their families, abode in Jerusalem.

9:35  And in Gibeon there dwelt the father of Gibeon, Jeiel, whose wife's name was Maacah;

38  Then Mikloth conceived Shimeam. These lived opposite their brothers in Jerusalem, with their brothers.

9:39  And Ner begot Kish; and Kish begot Saul; and Saul begot Jonathan, and Malchi-shua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal.

39  Now Ner conceived Kish, and Kish conceived Saul. And Saul conceived Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal.

9:40  And the son of Jonathan was Merib-baal; and Merib-baal begot Micah.

9:44  And Azel had six sons, whose names are these: Azrikam, Bocru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan; these were the sons of Azel.

44  And Esel had six sons, and these were their names; Esricam his first-born, and Ismael, and Saraia, and Abdia, and Anan, and Asa: these were the sons of Esel.

44  Now Azel had six sons, whose names are: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, Hanan. These are the sons of Azel.

10:1  Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

10:2  And the Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi- shua, the sons of Saul.

2  And when the Philistines had draw near, pursuing Saul and his sons, they struck down Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

10:3  And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was in anguish by reason of the archers.

3  And the battle grew heavy against Saul. And the archers found him, and they wounded him with arrows.

10:4  Then said Saul unto his armour-bearer: 'Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and make a mock of me.' But his armour-bearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.

4  And Saul said to his armour-bearer, Draw thy sword, and pierce me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and mock me. But his armour-bearer would not, for he was greatly afraid: so Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

10:5  And when his armour-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell upon his sword, and died.

10:6  So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.

6  Therefore, Saul died, and his three sons passed away, and his entire house fell, together.

6  So Saul died and his three sons and his armourbearer, and all his mighty men died on that day together.

10:7  And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

7  And when the men of Israel who were living in the plains had seen this, they fled. And since Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and were dispersed, here and there. And the Philistines arrived and lived among them.

10:8  And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

8  Then, on the next day, when the Philistines were taking away the spoils of the slain, they found Saul and his sons, lying on mount Gilboa.

10:9  And they stripped him, and took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry the tidings unto their idols, and to the people.

9  And when they had despoiled him, and had cut off his head, and had stripped his armor, they sent these things into their land, so that they would be carried around and displayed in the temples of the idols and to the people.

9  And they cut off their heads, stripped them of their armour, and sent them to the land of the Philistines, throughout the towns and cities and provinces to carry the good tidings to their idols and to their people;

10:10  And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.

10  But his armor they consecrated in the shrine of their god, and his head they affixed in the temple of Dagon.

10  And they put their garments and their armour in the house of their idols, and hanged their bodies by the wall of Beth-jashan.

10:11  And when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

11  And all the dwellers in Galaad heard of all that the Philistines had done to Saul and to Israel.

11  When the men of Jabesh Gilead had heard this, specifically, all that the Philistines had done concerning Saul,

10:12  all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the terebinth in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

12  They arose, all the valiant men, and went all the night, and took away the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-jashan, and brought them to Jabesh and burned them there; then they took their bones and buried them under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

10:13  So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against YHWH, because of the word of the YHWH, which he kept not; and also for that he asked counsel of a ghost, to inquire thereby,

13  Thus did Saul die for his iniquities, because he betrayed the commandment of the Lord which he had instructed, and did not keep it. And moreover, he even consulted a woman diviner;

13  So Saul died because of the transgression which he committed against the LORD, and because of the command of the LORD, which he kept not,

10:14  and inquired not of YHWH; therefore He slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

14  for he did not trust in the Lord. Because of this, he caused his death, and he transferred his kingdom to David, the son of Jesse.

14  And also because he consulted men who had familiar spirits, and did not inquire of the LORD his God. Therefore his kingdom was given to David the son of Jesse.

11:1  Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying: 'Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

11:2  In times past, even when Saul was king, it was thou that didst lead out and bring in Israel; and YHWH thy God said unto thee: Thou shalt feed My people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over My people Israel.'

2  And heretofore when Saul was king, thou wast he that led Israel in and out, and the Lord of Israel said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be for a ruler over Israel.

2  Also, yesterday and the day before, when Saul still reigned, you were the one who led out and brought in Israel. For the Lord your God said to you: ‘You shall pasture my people Israel, and you shall be the leader over them.’ ”

11:3  So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before YHWH; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the YHWH by the hand of Samuel.

3  Therefore, all those greater by birth of Israel went to the king at Hebron. And David formed a pact with them before the Lord. And they anointed him king over Israel, in accord with the word of the Lord, which he spoke by the hand of Samuel.

11:4  And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem--the same is Jebus--and the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there.

4  And the king and his men went to Jerusalem, this is Jebus; and there the Jebusites the inhabitants of the land said to David,

11:5  And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David: 'Thou shalt not come in hither.' Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion; the same is the city of David.

5  Thou shalt not enter in hither. But he took the strong hold of Sion: this is the city of David.

5  And those who were living in Jebus said to David: “You shall not enter here.” But David seized the stronghold of Zion, which is the city of David.

11:6  And David said: 'Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain.' And Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and was made chief.

6  And he said, “Whoever shall strike the Jebusites first, shall be ruler and commander.” And so Joab, the son of Zeruiah, ascended first, and he was made the leader.

6  And David said, Whoever smites a Jebusite person first shall be chief and commander of the army. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and King David appointed him chief and commander of the army.

11:7  And David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore they called it the city of David.

7  Then David lived in the stronghold, and for this reason it was called the City of David.

11:8  And he built the city round about, from Millo even round about; and Joab repaired the rest of the city.

8  And he fortified the city round about.

8  And David built the city round about, even from Millo, which is outside; and David gave the east side of the city to the rest of the people who were in the villages.

11:9  And David waxed greater and greater; for YHWH of hosts was with him.

9  And David continued to increase, and the Lord Almighty was with him.

9  So David became greater and greater; and the LORD of hosts was with him.

11:10  Now these are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who held strongly with him in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of YHWH concerning Israel.

10  These are the leaders of the strong men of David, who assisted him, so that he would become king over all of Israel, in accord with the word of the Lord, which he spoke to Israel.

10  These are the chiefs of David's mighty men, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom and helped him to be made king over all Israel, according to the word of the LORD which he spoke concerning Israel.

11:11  And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had: Jashobeam, the son of a Hachmonite, the chief of the captains; he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them at one time.

11  And this is the list of the mighty men of David; Jesebada, son of Achaman, first of the thirty: he drew his sword once against three hundred whom he slew at one time.

11:12  And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighty men.

12  And after him, there was Eleazar, the son of his uncle, an Ahohite, who was among the three powerful ones.

11:13  He was with David at Pas-dammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a plot of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines.

11:14  But they stood in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and slew the Philistines; and YHWH saved them by a great victory.

14  These men stood in the midst of the field, and they defended it. And when they had struck down the Philistines, the Lord gave a great salvation to his people.

14  And they set themselves in the midst of the field, and delivered it and slew the Philistines; and the LORD wrought a great victory.

11:15  And three of the thirty chiefs went down to the rock to David, unto the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines were encamped in the valley of Rephaim.

15  Then three from the thirty leaders descended to the rock where David was, to the cave of Adullam, when the Philistines had made camp in the Valley of the Rephaim.

15  Now three of the thirty chieftains went down to David, into the cave of Arlam; and the host of the Philistines was encamped in the valley of Gabarey.

11:16  And David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Beth-lehem.

16  Now David was in a stronghold, and a garrison of the Philistines was in Bethlehem.

11:17  And David longed, and said: 'Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Beth-lehem, which is by the gate!'

11:18  And the three broke through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David; but David would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto YHWH,

18  Therefore, these three broke through to the midst of the camp of the Philistines, and they drew water from the well of Bethlehem, which was at the gate. And they took it to David, so that he might drink. But he was not willing; and instead, he offered it as a libation to the Lord,

18  And as soon as three men heard it, they broke through the camp of the Philistines, and went and drew water out of the cistern of Bethlehem that was by the gate of the city, and took it and brought it to David; but David would not drink of it, but poured it out in the presence of the LORD,

11:19  and said: 'My God forbid it me, that I should do this; shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it.' Therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.

19  saying: “Far be it from me, that I would do this in the sight of my God, and that I would drink the blood of these men. For at the peril of their own lives, they brought the water to me.” And for this reason, he was not willing to drink. The three most powerful accomplished these things.

11:20  And Abishai, the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three; for he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them, and had a name among the three.

20  Also, Abishai, the brother of Joab, was the leader of the three, and he lifted up his spear against three hundred, who were wounded. And he was most renown among the three,

11:21  Of the three in the second rank he was the most honourable, and was made their captain; howbeit he attained not to the first three.

21  and he was famous among the second three and their leader. Yet truly, he did not reach as far as the first three.

21  He was more honorable than the thirty men, and he became their chief and fought like thirty men.

11:22  Beniah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, he smote the two altar-hearths of Moab; he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow.

22  And Banaia the son of Jodae was the son of a mighty man: many were his acts for Cabasael: he smote two lion-like men of Moab, and he went down and smote a lion in a pit on a snowy day.

11:23  And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian's hand was a spear like a weaver's beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.

23  And he struck down an Egyptian man, whose stature was five cubits, and who had a spear like a weaver’s beam. And yet he descended to him with a staff. And he seized the spear that he was holding in his hand. And he killed him with his own spear.

11:24  These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had a name among the three mighty men.

24  These things were done by Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, who was most renowned among the three robust ones,

11:25  Behold, he was more honourable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three; and David set him over his guard.

25  He was distinguished beyond the thirty, yet he reached not to the first three: and David set him over his family.

25  And he was honorable among the three valiant men, for he fought like three mighty men; and David set him over his bodyguard and over the chiefs of the army;

11:26  Also the mighty men of valour: Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Beth-lehem;

11:47  Eliel, and Obed, and Jaasiel the Mezobaite.

1Chr12:1  Also, these went to David at Ziklag, while he was still fleeing from Saul, the son of Kish. And they were very strong and distinguished fighters,

12:1  Now these are they that came to David to Ziklag, while he was yet shut up because of Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men, his helpers in war.

1Chr12:2  bending the bow, and using either hand in casting stones with slings, and shooting arrows. From the brothers of Saul, out of Benjamin

1  NOW these are all the mighty men of David, who stood by him in the battle, and they came with David to the city of Zinklag, when he fled from Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men who stood before David. If David had wished, they would have slain Saul the son of Kish, for they were mighty men of war, but David would not permit them to slay Saul.

12:2  They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in slinging stones and in shooting arrows from the bow; they were of Saul's brethren of Benjamin.

1Chr12:3  the leader was Ahiezer, with Joash, sons of Shemaah from Gibeah, and Jeziel and Pelet, sons of Azmaveth, and Beracah and Jehu, from Anathoth.

2  They held the bows with their left hand and the swords with their right, and their bows were filled with arrows, but David was unwilling to slay Saul, because he was the chief, the prince of the tribe of Benjamin.

12:3  The chief was Ahiezer, then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; and Jeziel, and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth; and Beracah, and Jehu the Anathothite;

1Chr12:4  Also, there was Ishmaiah, from Gibeon, the strongest among the thirty and over the thirty; Jeremiah, and Jahaziel, and Johanan, and Jozabad, from Gederah;

12:8  And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David to the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valour, men trained for war, that could handle shield and spear; whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as the roes upon the mountains;

8  And from Gad these separated themselves to David from the wilderness, strong mighty men of war, bearing shields and spears, and their faces were as the face of a lion, and they were nimble as roes upon the mountains in speed.

14  These were chiefs of the army of the sons of Gad, the least one commander of a hundred, and the greatest one of a thousand.

1Chr12:15  These are the ones who crossed over the Jordan in the first month, when it is accustomed to overflow its banks. And they put to flight all those who were staying in the valleys, to the eastern region and to the west.

12:15  These are they that went over the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflown all its banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west.

1Chr12:16  Then some from Benjamin and from Judah also arrived at the stronghold where David was staying.

15  These are they who crossed the Jordan in the month of Nisan, when it had overflowed all its banks; and they put to flight all the army that was encamped in the valley, both toward the east and toward the west. And these are the numbers of the commanders of the army who gathered together and came to David to Hebron to give him the kingdom of Saul, so that the word of Samuel the prophet might be fulfilled, who spoke by the command of the LORD.

12:16  And there came of the children of Benjamin and Judah to the stronghold unto David.

1Chr12:17  And David went out to meet them, and he said: “If you have arrived peacefully, so as to be a help to me, may my heart be joined to you; but if to betray me to my adversaries, though I have no iniquity in my hands, may the God of our fathers see and judge.”

12:17  And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them: 'If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, my heart shall be knit unto you; but if ye be come to betray me to mine adversaries, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers look thereon, and give judgment.'

1Chr12:18  Truly, the Spirit clothed Amasai, the leader among the thirty, and he said: “O David, we are yours! O son of Jesse, we are for you! Peace, peace to you, and peace to your helpers. For your God helps you.” Therefore, David received them, and he appointed them as leaders of troops.

17  And David went out to meet them and blessed them, and said to them, If you have come peaceably to me to help us, then may the LORD grant you a double portion of that which you have in your heart; but if you have come to betray me and to deliver me to my adversaries, seeing that I have not sinned against you and there is no wrong in my hands, the God of my fathers knows it, and he will rebuke whoever is wrong among us.

12:18  Then the spirit clothed Amasai, who was chief of the captains: Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse; peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thy helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.

1Chr12:19  Moreover, some from Manasseh crossed over to David, when he went forth with the Philistines against Saul, so that he might fight. But he did not fight with them. For the leaders of the Philistines, taking counsel, sent him back, saying, “To the peril of our own heads, he will return to his lord, Saul.”

18  Then the spirit of might came upon Amasa, the son of Jatar, chief of the thirty, and he answered and said to David, Come on, David, come on, O son of Jesse! I am also with you, peace be to you, be not afraid, and peace will be given to you from your helpers; for your God is your helper in every hour. Then David received them, and made them captains of the army.

12:19  Of Manasseh also there fell away some to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle, but they helped them not; for the lords of the Philistines upon advisement sent him away, saying: 'He will fall away to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads.'

1Chr12:20  And so, when he returned to Ziklag, some fled over to him from Manasseh: Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Adnah, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zillethai, leaders of thousands in Manasseh.

12:20  As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh, Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zillethai, captains of thousands that were of Manasseh.

1Chr12:21  These offered assistance to David against the robbers. For all were very strong men, and they became leaders in the army.

20  And as he goes to Zinklag, we will besiege him and capture him alive. These are their names: Ada, Zabor, Jediael, Michael, Elihu, and Jozabad, commanders of thousands of the house of Manasseh.

12:21  And they helped David against the troop, for they were all mighty men of valour, and were captains in the host.

1Chr12:22  Then, too, some came to David throughout each day, in order to help him, until they became a great number, like the army of God.

12:22  For from day to day men came to David to help him, until there was a great host, like the host of God.

1Chr12:23  Now this is the number of the leaders of the army who went to David when he was at Hebron, so that they might transfer the kingdom of Saul to him, in accord with the word of the Lord

22  For every day they went into the presence of David to eat food before him, for he loved them exceedingly.

12:23  And these are the numbers of the heads of them that were armed for war, who came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of YHWH.

1Chr12:24  the sons of Judah, carrying shield and spear, six thousand eight hundred, equipped for battle;

23  And of the children of Judah who bore sword and spear were six thousand and eight hundred mighty men of war.

12:24  The children of Judah that bore shield and spear were six thousand and eight hundred, armed for war.

1Chr12:25  from the sons of Simeon, very strong men for the fight, seven thousand one hundred;

12:25  Of the children of Simeon, mighty men of valour for the war, seven thousand and one hundred.

1Chr12:27  as well as Jehoiada, a leader from the stock of Aaron, and with him three thousand seven hundred;

12:27  And Jehoiada was the leader of the house of Aaron, and with him were three thousand and seven hundred;

1Chr12:28  and then Zadok, a youth of distinguished qualities, and the house of his father, twenty-two leaders;

27  And Zadok, a young man mighty of valour, and of his father's house and his brothers, twenty-two officers.

1Chr12:29  and from the sons of Benjamin, brothers of Saul, three thousand, for still a great part of them were following the house of Saul.

12:29  And of the children of Benjamin, the brethren of Saul, three thousand; for hitherto the greatest part of them had kept their allegiance to the house of Saul.

1Chr12:30  Then from the sons of Ephraim, there were twenty thousand eight hundred, very strong and robust men, renowned among their kindred.

29  And of the children of Ephraim, twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valour, famous throughout the house of their fathers.

12:30  And of the children of Ephraim twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valour, famous men in their fathers' houses.

1Chr12:31  And out of the one half tribe of Manasseh, eighteen thousand, each by their names, went forth so that they might appoint David as king.

1Chr12:32  Also, from the sons of Issachar, there were learned men, who knew each of the times, in order to anticipate what Israel ought to do, two hundred leaders. And all the remainder of the tribe were following their counsel.

31  And of the children of Issachar, men who had understanding in their times, who did good and upright deeds before the LORD; their chiefs were two hundred; and all their brethren did whatever they were commanded.

12:32  And of the children of Issachar, men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.

12:33  Of Zebulun, such as were able to go out in the host, that could set the battle in array, with all manner of instruments of war, fifty thousand; and that could order the battle array, and were not of double heart.

33  And of Zabulon they that went out to battle, with all weapons of war, were fifty thousand to help David, not weak-handed.

1Chr12:34  And from Naphtali, there were one thousand leaders; and with them were thirty-seven thousand, prepared with shield and spear.

1Chr12:35  And then from Dan, there were twenty-eight thousand six hundred, ready for battle.

34  And of the Danites, expert in war, twenty-eight thousand and six hundred.

1Chr12:36  And from Asher, there were forty thousand, going forth to fight, and summoned to the battle line.

35  And of Asher, such as went forth to battle, valiant men of war, forty thousand.

1Chr12:37  Then, across the Jordan, there were, from the sons of Reuben, and from Gad, and from the one half tribe of Manasseh, one hundred twenty thousand, prepared with the weapons of warfare.

12:37  And on the other side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and of the half-tribe of Manasseh, with all manner of instruments of war for the battle, a hundred and twenty thousand.

37  And from the country beyond Jordan, from Ruben, and the Gadites, and from the half-tribe of Manasse, a hundred and twenty thousand, with all weapons of war.

1Chr12:38  All these men of war, equipped for the fight, went with a perfect heart to Hebron, so that they might appoint David as king over all of Israel. Then, too, all the remainder of Israel were of one heart, so that they might make David king.

12:38  All these, being men of war, that could order the battle array, came with a whole heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel; and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king.

1Chr12:39  And they were in that place with David for three days, eating and drinking. For their brothers had made preparations for them.

1Chr12:40  Moreover, those who were near to them, even as far as Issachar, and Zebulun, and Naphtali, were bringing, on donkeys and camels and mules and oxen, bread for their provisions, with grain, dried figs, dried grapes, wine, oil, and oxen and sheep, with all abundance. For indeed, there was joy in Israel.

39  Now these were the names of the tribes who supplied them with food, who were near them

12:40  Moreover they that were nigh unto them, even as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, victual of meal, cakes of figs, and clusters of raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep in abundance; for there was joy in Israel.

1Chr13:1  Then David took counsel with the tribunes, and the centurions, and all the leaders.

13:2  And David said unto all the assembly of Israel: 'If it seem good unto you, and if it be of YHWH our God, let us send abroad everywhere unto our brethren that are left in all the land of Israel, and with them to the priests and Levites that are in their cities that have open land about them, that they may gather themselves unto us;

1Chr13:3  And let us bring back the ark of our God to us. For we did not seek it during the days of Saul.”

2  And David said to all the assemblies of Israel, If it seems good to you, let us beseech the LORD our God to repair the breaches of our brethren who reside in all towns of Israel, and settle with them priests and Levites in their cities and suburbs;

13:3  and let us bring back the ark of our God to us; for we sought not unto it in the days of Saul.'

1Chr13:4  And the entire multitude responded that it should be done. For the word had pleased all the people.

3  So that they may gather themselves and come to us, and pray before the LORD our God and beseech him because of our sins; for we did not pray before him in the days of Saul.

13:4  And all the assembly said that they would do so; for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

1Chr13:5  Therefore, David gathered all of Israel, from Shihor of Egypt even to the entrance of Hamath, so as to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.

4  And all the assemblies said that they would do so.

13:5  So David assembled all Israel together, from Shihor the brook of Egypt even unto the entrance of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.

1Chr13:6  And David ascended with all the men of Israel to the hill of Kiriath-jearim, which is in Judah, so that he might bring from there the ark of the Lord God, sitting upon the Cherubim, where his name is invoked.

13:6  And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, YHWH that sitteth upon the cherubim, whereon is called the Name.

1Chr13:7  And they placed the ark of God upon a new cart from the house of Abinadab. Then Uzzah and his brother drove the cart.

13:7  And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab; and Uzza and Ahio drove the cart.

1Chr13:8  Now David and all of Israel were playing before God, with all of their ability, in songs, and with harps, and psalteries, and timbrels, and cymbals, and trumpets.

7  And they placed the ark of the LORD in a new cart, and carried it out of the house of Abinadab; and Uzza and his brothers drove the cart.

13:8  And David and all Israel played before God with all their might; even with songs, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.

1Chr13:9  And when they had arrived at the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah reached out his hand, so that he might support the ark. For indeed, the ox being wanton had caused it to incline a little.

13:9  And when they came unto the threshing-floor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled.

9  And they came as far as the threshing-floor: and Oza put forth his hand to hold the ark, because the bullock moved it from its place.

1Chr13:10  And so the Lord became angry against Uzzah. And he struck him down because he had touched the ark. And he died there before the Lord.

13:10  And the anger of YHWH was kindled against Uzza, and He smote him, because he put forth his hand to the ark; and there he died before God.

1Chr13:11  And David was greatly saddened because the Lord had divided Uzzah. And he called that place ‘the Division of Uzzah,’ even to the present day.

13:11  And David was displeased, because YHWH had broken forth upon Uzza; and that place was called Perez-uzza unto this day.

11  And David was dispirited, because the Lord had made a breach on Oza: and he called that place the Breach of Oza until this day.

1Chr13:12  And then he feared God, at that time, saying: “How will I be able to bring in the ark of God to myself?”

13:12  And David was afraid of God that day, saying: 'How shall I bring the ark of God home to me?'

1Chr13:13  And for this reason, he did not bring it to himself, that is, into the City of David. Instead, he turned aside to the house of Obededom, the Gittite.

13:13  So David removed not the ark unto him into the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

13  So David brought not the ark home to himself into the city of David, but he turned it aside into the house of Abeddara the Gethite.

1Chr13:14  Therefore, the ark of God dwelt in the house of Obededom for three months. And the Lord blessed his house and all that he had.

13:14  And the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom in his house three months; and YHWH blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that he had.

1Chr14:1  Also, Hiram, the king of Tyre, sent messengers to David, and cedar wood, and artisans of walls and of wood, so that they might build a house for him.

14:1  And Huram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar-trees, and masons, and carpenters, to build him a house.

1Chr14:2  And David realized that the Lord had confirmed him as king over Israel, and that his kingdom had been lifted up over his people Israel.

14:2  And David perceived that YHWH had established him king over Israel, for his kingdom was exalted exceedingly, for His people Israel's sake.

2  And David knew that the Lord had designed him to be king over Israel; because his kingdom was highly exalted, on account of his people Israel.

1Chr14:3  Also, David took other wives in Jerusalem. And he conceived sons and daughters.

14:3  And David took more wives at Jerusalem; and David begot more sons and daughters.

1Chr14:4  And these are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua and Shobab, Nathan and Solomon,

14:4  And these are the names of the children whom he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon;

1Chr14:5  Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpelet,

14:5  and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpelet;

1Chr14:6  as well as Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

1Chr14:8  Then, hearing that David had been anointed as king over all of Israel, all the Philistines ascended so that they might seek him. But when David had heard of it, he went out to meet them.

14:8  And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went out to meet them.

1Chr14:9  Now the Philistines, arriving, spread out in the Valley of the Rephaim.

14:9  Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.

9  And the Philistines came and assembled together in the giants’ valley.

1Chr14:10  And so David consulted the Lord, saying, “Shall I ascend to the Philistines, and will you deliver them into my hand?” And the Lord said to him, “Ascend, and I will deliver them into your hand.”

14:10  And David inquired of God, saying: 'Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt Thou deliver them into my hand?' And YHWH said unto him: 'Go up; for I will deliver them into thy hand.'

1Chr14:11  And when they had ascended to Baal-perazim, David struck them there, and he said: “God has divided my enemies by my hand, just as waters are divided.” And therefore the name of that place was called Baal-perazim.

14:11  So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there; and David said: 'God hath broken mine enemies by my hand, like the breach of waters.' Therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim.

1Chr14:12  And they left behind their gods in that place, and so David ordered them to be burned.

11  So they came up to the valley of Toretha, and David smote them there. Then David said. The LORD has broken in upon my enemies before me like the breaking forth of waters; therefore they called the name of that place the valley of Toretha.

14:12  And they left their gods there; and David gave commandment, and they were burned with fire.

1Chr14:13  And then, at another time, the Philistines invaded, and they spread out in the valley.

12  And when they had left their idols there, David gave a commandment to his mighty men, saying. Burn them with fire and scatter their ashes to the wind.

14:13  And the Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley.

1Chr14:14  And again, David consulted God. And God said to him: “You shall not ascend after them. Draw away from them. And you shall come against them opposite the balsam trees.

14:14  And David inquired again of God; and God said unto him: 'Thou shalt not go up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry-trees.

1Chr14:15  And when you hear a sound approaching in the tops of the balsam trees, then you shall go forth to war. For God has gone forth before you, so that he may strike down the army of the Philistines.”

14  Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said to him, You shall not go up after them; but turn away from them, and go attack them from the front.

14:15  And it shall be, when thou hearest the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry-trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle; for God is gone out before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.'

1Chr14:16  Therefore, David did just as God had instructed him. And he struck down the army of the Philistines, from Gibeon as far as Gazera.

14:16  And David did as God commanded him; and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.

16  And he did as God commanded him: and he smote the army of the Philistines from Gabaon to Gazera.

1Chr14:17  And the name of David became well-known in all the regions. And the Lord placed the fear of him over all the nations.

14:17  And the fame of David went out into all lands; and YHWH brought the fear of him upon all nations.

1Chr15:1  Also, he made houses for himself in the City of David. And built a place for the ark of God, and he set up a tent for it.

15:1  And David made him houses in the city of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent.

1Chr15:2  Then David said: “It is illicit for anyone to carry the ark of God except the Levites, whom the Lord chose to carry it and to minister to himself, even unto eternity.”

1  AND David built citadels for himself in the city of David, and also built a place for the ark of the LORD and for the instruments of the tabernacle.

15:2  Then David said: 'None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites; for them hath YHWH chosen to carry the ark of the YHWH, and to minister unto Him for ever.'

1Chr15:3  And he gathered all of Israel in Jerusalem, so that the ark of God might be brought into its place, which he had prepared for it.

2  Then David commanded the Levites to carry the ark of the LORD and the instruments of the tabernacle; for the Levites the LORD had chosen to minister and to carry the ark of the LORD, and to look after it for ever.

15:3  And David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of YHWH unto its place, which he had prepared for it.

1Chr15:4  Certainly, there were both the sons of Aaron and the Levites

3  And David gathered all Israel together to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the LORD to the place which he had built for it.

15:4  And David gathered together the sons of Aaron, and the Levites;

1Chr15:5  From the sons of Kohath, Uriel was the leader, and his brothers were one hundred twenty.

1Chr15:6  From the sons of Merari: Asaiah was the leader, and his brothers were two hundred twenty.

1Chr15:7  From the sons of Gershom: Joel was the leader, and his brothers were one hundred thirty.

1Chr15:8  From the sons of Elizaphan: Shemaiah was the leader, and his brothers were two hundred.

15:8  of the sons of Elizaphan: Shemaiah the chief, and his brethren two hundred;

1Chr15:9  From the sons of Hebron: Eliel was the leader, and his brothers were eighty.

15:9  of the sons of Hebron: Eliel the chief, and his brethren fourscore;

1Chr15:10  From the sons of Uzziel: Amminadab was the leader, and his brothers were one hundred twelve.

15:10  of the sons of Uzziel: Amminadab the chief, and his brethren a hundred and twelve.

1Chr15:11  And David summoned the priests, Zadok and Abiathar, and the Levites: Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab.

15:11  And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, and Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminadab,

1Chr15:12  And he said to them: “You who are the leaders of the Levitical families, be sanctified with your brothers, and bring the ark of the Lord God of Israel to the place that has been prepared for it.

15:12  and said unto them: 'Ye are the heads of the fathers' houses of the Levites; sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of YHWH, the God of Israel, unto the place that I have prepared for it.

12  and said to them, Ye are the heads of the families of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, you and your brethren, and ye shall carry up the ark of the God of Israel, to the place which I have prepared for it.

1Chr15:13  Otherwise, as it was before, when the Lord struck us because you were not present, so also it might be now, if we do what is illicit.”

15:13  For because ye bore it not at the first, YHWH our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought Him not according to the ordinance.'

1Chr15:14  Therefore, the priests and the Levites were sanctified, so that they might carry the ark of the Lord God of Israel.

13  So that the LORD our God may not smite us because we did not seek him after the due order.

15:14  So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of YHWH, the God of Israel.

1Chr15:15  And the sons of Levi took the ark of God, just as Moses had instructed, in accord with the word of the Lord, upon their shoulders by the bars.

15:15  And the children of the Levites bore the ark of God upon their shoulders with the bars thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of YHWH.

15  And the sons of the Levites took the ark of God, (as Moses commanded by the word of God according to the scripture) upon their shoulders with staves.

1Chr15:16  And David spoke to the leaders of the Levites, so that they might appoint, from their brothers, singers with musical instruments, specifically, psalteries, and harps, and cymbals, so that a joyful noise might resound on high.

15:16  And David spoke to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren the singers, with instruments of music, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding aloud and lifting up the voice with joy.

16  And David said to the chiefs of the Levites, Set your brethren the singers with musical instruments, lutes, harps, and cymbals, to sound aloud with a voice of joy.

1Chr15:17  And they appointed from the Levites: Heman, the son of Joel; and from his brothers, Asaph, the son of Berechiah; and truly, from their brothers, the sons of Merari: Ethan, the son of Kushaiah.

15:17  So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brethren, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brethren, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;

1Chr15:18  And with them were their brothers in the second rank: Zechariah, and Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jahiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Maaseiah, and Mattithiah, and Eliphelehu, and Mikneiah, and Obededom, and Jeiel, who were gatekeepers.

15:18  and with them their brethren of the second degree, Zechariah, Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, Eliab, and Benaiah, and Maaseiah, and Mattithiah, and Eliphalehu, and Mikneiah, and Obed-edom, and Jeiel, the doorkeepers.

1Chr15:19  Now the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were sounding out with cymbals of brass.

15:19  So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan ,were appointed , with cymbals of brass to sound aloud;

1Chr15:20  And Zechariah, and Aziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maaseiah, and Benaiah were singing mysteries with the psalteries.

19  Now these were all those who stood by the gates and sang: Heman, Asaph, and Ethan.

15:20  and Zechariah, and Aziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with psalteries set to Alamoth;

1Chr15:21  Then Mattithiah, and Eliphelehu, and Mikneiah and Obededom, and Jeiel and Azaziah were singing a song of victory with the harps, for the octave.

15:21  and Mattithiah, and Eliphalehu, and Mikneiahu, and Obed-edom, and Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps on the Sheminith, to lead.

1Chr15:22  Now Chenaniah, the leader of the Levites, was foremost over the prophecies, in order to mark out in advance the melodies. For indeed, he was very skillful.

21  And those who sang songs: Mattitha, Mikiaho, Ober-edom, Uzzael, and Uzzanaiah; these played with harps every day at three o'clock and at nine o'clock.

15:22  And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was over the song; he was master in the song, because he was skilful.

1Chr15:23  And Berechiah and Elkanah were porters of the ark.

22  And Benaiah, chief of the Levites, played every day in the booth, for they had prepared a place for him.

15:23  And Berechiah and Elkanah were door-keepers for the ark.

1Chr15:24  And the priests, Shebaniah, and Joshaphat, and Nethanel, and Amasai, and Zechariah, and Benaiah, and Eliezer, were sounding the trumpets before the ark of God. And Obededom and Jehiah were porters of the ark.

15:24  And Shebaniah, and Joshaphat, and Nethanel, and Amasai, and Zechariah, and Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, did blow with the trumpets before the ark of God; and Obed-edom and Jehiah were doorkeepers for the ark.

24  And Somnia, and Josaphat, and Nathanael, and Amasai, and Zacharia, and Banaea, and Eliezer, the priests, were sounding with trumpets before the ark of God: and Abdedom and Jeia were door-keepers of the ark of God.

1Chr15:25  Therefore, David, and all those greater by birth of Israel, and the tribunes, went to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the house of Obededom with rejoicing.

15:25  So David, and the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of YHWH out of the house of Obed-edom with joy.

1Chr15:26  And when God had assisted the Levites, who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord, they immolated seven bulls and seven rams.

15:26  And it came to pass, when God helped the Levites that bore the ark of the covenant of YHWH, that they sacrificed seven bullocks and seven rams.

1Chr15:27  Now David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah, the leader of the prophecy among the singers. But David was also clothed with a linen ephod.

15:27  And David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites that bore the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the singers in the song; and David had upon him an ephod of linen.

1Chr15:28  And all of Israel were leading back the ark of the covenant of the Lord with jubilation, sounding out with the noise of horns, and trumpets, and cymbals, and psalteries, and harps.

15:28  Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of YHWH with shouting, and with sound of the horn, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, sounding aloud with psalteries and harps.

1Chr15:29  And when the ark of the covenant of the Lord had arrived in the City of David, Michal, the daughter of Saul, gazing through a window, saw king David dancing and playing, and she despised him in her heart.

15:29  And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of YHWH came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out at the window, and saw king David dancing and making merry; and she despised him in her heart.

29  And the ark of the covenant of the Lord arrived, and came to the city of David; and Melchol the daughter of Saul looked down through the window, and saw king David dancing and playing: and she despised him in her heart.

1Chr16:1  And so they took the ark of God, and they set it in the midst of the tabernacle, which David had pitched for it. And they offered holocausts and peace offerings before God.
