It is actually heard that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not even named among the Gentiles-that a man has his father's wife!

Above all else, it is being said that there is fornication among you, even fornication of a such kind that is not among the Gentiles, so that someone would have the wife of his father.

IT is reported that immorality is com mon among you, and such immorality as is not known among pagans, that even a son should marry his fatherÆs wife.

And you have become arrogant, and have not rather grieved, so that he who did this deed would be removed from your midst.

And ye are puffed up, and did not rather mourn, that he that had done this deed might be taken away from among you.

But instead of boasting as you have, rather had you sat down mourning that he who has done this deed has not been removed from among you.

For I indeed, as being absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged (as though I were present) him who has done this deed in this way,

Certainly, though absent in body, I am present in spirit. Thus, I have already judged, as if I were present, him who has done this.

For while I am far away from you in body, yet I am near you in spirit, and I have already judged, as though I were present, him who has done this deed.

to deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

to hand over such a one as this to Satan, for the destruction of the flesh, so that the spirit may be saved in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole batch?

Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

It is not good for you to glory. Do you not know that a little leaven corrupts the entire mass?

Purge out the old leaven, in order that you may be a new batch of dough, since you are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.

Purge the old leaven, so that you may become the new bread, for you are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover, has now been immolated.

Clean out therefore the old leaven, so that you may be a new lump, just as you are unleavened. For our passover is Christ who was sacrificed for our sake.

So then let us observe the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Therefore let us celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, neither with the leaven of evil and bitterness, but with the leaven of purity and sanctity.

10  Yet I certainly did not mean with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to leave this world!

10  not at all [meaning] with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous and extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world

10  I do not mean that you should separate completely from all the immoral people of this world, or from the fraudulent and extortioners, or from idolaters; otherwise you would be obliged to leave this world.

11  But now I have written to you not to associate with anyone named a brother, who is a fornicator, or covetous person, or an idolater, or abusive person, or a drunkard, or a swindler-not even to eat with such a person.

11  but as it is, I wrote unto you not to keep company, if any man that is named a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one no, not to eat.

11  Now what I have written to you is this: you are not to associate with any person who is known as a brother and yet is immoral or fraudulent or an idolater or a railer or a drunkard or an extortioner; with such a person you must not break bread.

12  For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside?

12  For what business have I to judge those who are outside the church? But you may judge those who are within the church.

6:1  Does any of you, having a matter against another, dare go to court before the unrighteous, and not before the saints?

How is it that anyone of you, having a dispute against another, would dare to be judged before the iniquitous, and not before the saints?

WOULD any of you, having a lawsuit against his brother, dare to go to trial before the wicked rather than before the saints?

6:2  Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

Or know ye not that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world is judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

Or do you not know that the saints from this age shall judge it? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you unworthy, then, to judge even the smallest matters?

6:3  Do you not know that we will judge angels? Let alone ordinary [matters]!

Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more, things that pertain to this life?

Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more then should we judge those who belong to this world?

6:4  If then you have ordinary lawsuits, do you appoint those who are disdained within the church [to judge?]

Therefore, if you have matters to judge concerning this age, why not appoint those who are most contemptible in the Church to judge these things!

You have worldly affairs to be settled, and yet you have put men of bad reputation in the church on the judgment seat.

6:5  I say [this] to your shame. So is there not among you a wise [man], not even one, who will be able to judge between his brother [and another]?

But I am speaking so as to shame you. Is there no one among you wise enough, so that he might be able to judge between his brothers?

I say this to you to make you feel ashamed. Is it so, that there is not a single wise man among you, who could settle a dispute between a brother and his brother?

6:6  But brother goes to court against brother, and that before unbelievers!

Instead, brother contends against brother in court, and this before the unfaithful!

6:7  Actually then, it is already a defeat for you that you have lawsuits against one another. Why not rather accept wrong? Why not rather accept being defrauded?

Now there is certainly an offense among you, beyond everything else, when you have court cases against one another. Should you not accept injury instead? Should you not endure being cheated instead?

Now therefore you are already at fault because you go to court one with another. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather let yourselves be defrauded?

6:9  Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,

Or know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with men,

Do you not know that the iniquitous will not possess the kingdom of God? Do not choose to wander astray. For neither fornicators, nor servants of idolatry, nor adulterers,

6:10  nor covetous, nor thieves, nor drunkards, nor abusive people, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

10  nor the effeminate, nor males who sleep with males, nor thieves, nor the avaricious, nor the inebriated, nor slanderers, nor the rapacious shall possess the kingdom of God.

10  Nor extortioners, nor thieves, nor drunkards, nor railers, nor grafters, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

6:11  And such were some of you! But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of YHWH Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

11  And some of you were like this. But you have been absolved, but you have been sanctified, but you have been justified: all in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

11  And some of these evils were to be found in some of you, but you have been cleansed, and have been sanctified, and made righteous in the name of our LORD Jesus Christ, and through the Spirit of our God.

6:12  All things are lawful for me, but all things are not profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.

12  All is lawful to me, but not all is expedient. All is lawful to me, but I will not be driven back by the authority of anyone.

6:13  Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both this [stomach] and these [foods]. Now the body is not for fornication, but for YHWH, and the Lord for the body.

13  Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall bring to nought both it and them. But the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body

13  Food is for the belly, and the belly for food: but God will do away with both of them. Now the body is not meant for fornication, but for our LORD; and our LORD for the body.

6:14  Now God has both raised up YHWH, and will also raise us up through His power.

14  Truly, God has raised up the Lord, and he will raise us up by his power.

14  And as God has raised our LORD, so he will raise us also by his own power.

6:15  Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make [them] members of a harlot? By no means!

6:17  But he that is joined with YHWH is one spirit [with Him].

17  But whoever is joined to the Lord is one spirit.

17  But he who unites himself with our LORD becomes one with him in spirit.

6:18  Flee fornication. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits fornication sins against his own body.

18  Flee from fornication. Every sin whatsoever that a man commits is outside of the body, but whoever fornicates, sins against his own body.

18  Keep away from fornication. Every sin that a man commits, is outside his body; but he who commits adultery sins against his own body.

6:19  Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

7:2  Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let each [man] have his own wife, and let each [woman] have her own husband.

But, because of fornications, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.

Nevertheless, because of the danger of immorality, let every man cling to his own wife, and let every woman cling to her own husband.

7:3  Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband.

A husband should fulfill his obligation to his wife, and a wife should also act similarly toward her husband.

7:4  The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband [does]. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife [does].

The wife hath not power over her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power over his own body, but the wife.

It is not the wife, but the husband, who has power over her body. But, similarly also, it is not the husband, but the wife, who has power over his body.

7:5  Do not deprive one another, except by mutual agreement, [and that] for a season, so that you may devote yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, lest Satan tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Defraud ye not one the other, except it be by consent for a season, that ye may give yourselves unto prayer, and may be together again, that Satan tempt you not because of your incontinency.

Therefore do not deprive one another except when both of you consent to do so, especially at the time when you devote yourselves to fasting and prayer; and then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your physical passion.

7:6  But I say this as a concession, not as a commandment.

But I am saying this, neither as an indulgence, nor as a commandment.

But I say this only to weak persons, for it is not part of the law.

7:7  For I wish that all men would be as I myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this way and another in that.

Yet I would that all men were even as I myself. Howbeit each man hath his own gift from God, one after this manner, and another after that.

For I would prefer it if you were all like myself. But each person has his proper gift from God: one in this way, yet another in that way.

7:8  But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they should remain as I also [remain];

I say this to those who have no wives and to widows, It is better for them to be as I am;

I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.

7:9  but if they are not exercising self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn [with passion].

But if they have not continency, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.

7:10  Now to those who have married I command, yet not I, but YHWH: A wife is not to be separated from her husband-

10  But unto the married I give charge, [yea] not I, but the Lord, That the wife depart not from her husband

7:11  and even if she does separate, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband-and a husband is not to divorce his wife.

11  But if she separate, let her remain single, or be reconciled to her husband; and let not the husband desert his wife.

7:12  But to the rest I, not YHWH, say: If any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she consents to live with him, let him not divorce her.

12  Concerning the rest, I am speaking, not the Lord. If any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her.

12  But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.

7:13  And a wife who has an unbelieving husband, if he consents to live with her, let her not divorce him.

13  And the woman that hath an unbelieving husband, and he is content to dwell with her, let her not leave her husband.

13  And if any woman has an unbelieving husband, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce her husband.

7:14  For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy.

14  For the husband who is not a convert is sanctified through the wife who is a convert, and the wife who is not a convert is sanctified through the husband who is a convert; otherwise, their children would be impure, but in such cases they are pure.

7:15  But if the unbelieving [spouse] separates, let [him or her ]separate; the brother or the sister has not been bound in such cases; but God has called us to peace.

15  Yet if the unbelieving departeth, let him depart: the brother or the sister is not under bondage in such [cases]: but God hath called us in peace.

15  But if the one who is not a convert wishes to separate, let him separate. In such cases, a convert man or woman is free; for God has called us to live in peace.

7:17  Otherwise as God has distributed to each one, as YHWH has called each one, so let him walk. And so I command in all the churches.

17  But every man, according as the LORD has distributed to him, and every man, as God has called him, so let him walk. And this I command also for all the churches.

7:18  Was anyone called while circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Was anyone called while uncircumcised? Let him not be circumcised.

18  Has any circumcised man been called? Let him not cover his circumcision. Has any uncircumcised man been called? Let him not be circumcised.

18  If a man was circumcised when he was called, let him not adhere to the party of uncircumcision. And if he was uncircumcised, when he was called, let him not be circumcised.

7:19  Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God.

19  For circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the LORDÆs commandments is everything.

20  Let every man remain in the station of life in which he is called.

7:21  Were you called as a slave? Do not be concerned about it; but if you can be made free, rather make use of [it].

21  If you were a slave when you were called, do not feel concerned about it; but even though you can be made free, choose rather to serve.

21  Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.

7:22  For he who is called in YHWH while a slave is the Lord's free [man]. Likewise he who is called as a free [man] is Christ's slave.

22  For he that was called in the Lord being a bondservant, is the Lord`s freedman: likewise he that was called being free, is Christ`s bondservant.

22  For any servant who has been called in the Lord is free in the Lord. Similarly, any free person who has been called is a servant in Christ.

7:25  Now concerning virgins, I have no command of YHWH; but I give judgment, as having received mercy by the Lord to be faithful.

25  Now, concerning virgins, I have no commandment from the Lord. But I give counsel, as one who has obtained the mercy of the Lord, so as to be faithful.

7:26  Therefore I consider this to be good because of the present distress, that [it is] good for a man to be as he is

26  I think therefore that this is good by reason of the distress that is upon us, [namely,] that it is good for a man to be as he is.

26  And I suppose that this is good for the present necessity, therefore I say, It is better for a man to remain as he is.

7:27  Have you been bound to a wife? Do not seek to be released. Have you been released from a wife? Do not seek a wife.

27  If you are married, do not seek divorce. If you are divorced from a wife, do not seek a wife.

7:28  But even if you should marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin should marry, she has not sinned. But such will have trouble in the flesh, and I would spare you.

28  But if you take a wife, you have not sinned. And if a virgin has married, she has not sinned. Even so, such as these will have the tribulation of the flesh. But I would spare you from this.

7:29  But this I say, brothers, the time has been shortened; so that from now on even those having wives should be as though they had none,

29  And so, this is what I say, brothers: The time is short. What remains of it is such that: those who have wives should be as if they had none;

7:30  and those weeping as though not weeping, and those rejoicing as though not rejoicing, and those buying as though not possessing,

30  and those that weep, as though they wept not; and those that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and those that buy, as though they possessed not;

30  and those who weep, as though they were not weeping; and those who rejoice, as if they were not rejoicing; and those who buy, as if they possessed nothing;

7:31  and those using this world as not using it up. For the form of this world is passing away.

31  and those that use the world, as not using it to the full: for the fashion of this world passeth away.

31  and those who use the things of this world, as if they were not using them. For the figure of this world is passing away.

7:32  But I want you to be without anxiety. The unmarried man cares about the things of YHWH-[about ]how he may please the Lord.

32  But I would have you to be free from cares. He that is unmarried is careful for the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord

32  Therefore I would that you were free from worldly cares. For he who is unmarried, is concerned in the things of his master, so as to please his master.

7:33  But the [man] having married cares about the things of the world-[about ]how he may please his wife.

33  But whoever is with a wife is worried about the things of the world, as to how he may please his wife. And so, he is divided.

33  And he who is married is concerned with worldly things, in order to please his wife.

7:34  And the wife and the virgin are different. The unmarried woman cares about the things of YHWH, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But the woman having married cares about the things of the world-about how she may please her husband.

34  and is divided. [So] also the woman that is unmarried and the virgin is careful for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married is careful for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

34  So there is a difference between a married woman and a virgin. She who is unmarried is concerned about the welfare of her father, and to be pure both in body and in spirit; but she who is married is concerned with worldly things, in order to please her husband.

7:35  And this I say for your own profit, not that I may put a snare upon you, but for that which is proper, and that you may serve YHWH without distraction.

35  Furthermore, I am saying this for your own benefit, not in order to cast a snare over you, but toward whatever is honest and whatever may provide you with the ability to be without hindrance, so as to worship the Lord.

35  I am saying this for your own benefit; I am not trying to snare or put a yoke on you, but I exhort you to be perfect before the LORD, and faithful without distraction.

7:36  But if any man thinks he is behaving improperly toward his virgin, if she is past her youth, and thus it must be, let him do what he desires. He does not sin; let them marry.

36  If any man thinks that he is shamed by the behavior of his virgin daughter, because she has passed the marriage age, and he has not given her in marriage, and that he should give her, let him give her in marriage and he does not sin. Let her be married.

7:37  But [he] who stands in his heart, not having necessity, but has power over his own desire, and has decided this in his heart that he will keep his virgin, does well.

37  But if he has decided firmly in his heart, and he does not have any obligation, but only the power of his free will, and if he has judged this in his heart, to let her remain a virgin, he does well.

37  Nevertheless, he who has sincerely decided, and who is not forced by circumstances, but has determined and decreed in his heart to keep his virgin daughter single, he does well.

7:38  So then he who gives her in marriage does well, but he who does not give her in marriage does better.

38  So then both he that giveth his own virgin [daughter] in marriage doeth well; and he that giveth her not in marriage shall do better.

38  And so, he who joins with his virgin in matrimony does well, and he who does not join with her does better.

7:39  A wife has been bound by law as long as her husband lives; but if her husband also dies, she is free to be married to whom she desires, only in YHWH.

7:40  But she is more blessed if she remains as she is, in my opinion-and I think I also have the Spirit of God.

8:1  Now concerning the [things] offered to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.

NOW as concerning sacrifices offered to idols, we know well, that we all have knowledge; knowledge makes for pride, but love ennobles.

8:2  And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he has come to know nothing yet as he ought to know.

If any man thinketh that he knoweth anything, he knoweth not yet as he ought to know;

But if anyone considers himself to know anything, he does not yet know in the way that he ought to know.

8:3  But if anyone loves God, this one has been known by Him.

For if anyone loves God, he is known by him.

8:4  Therefore concerning the eating of the things offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

But as to the foods that are immolated to idols, we know that an idol in the world is nothing, and that no one is God, except One.

As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.

8:5  For even if they are being called "gods"whether in heaven or on earth (just as there are many gods and many lords),

For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth; as there are gods many, and lords many;

For although there are things that are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, (if one even considers there to be many gods and many lords)

8:6  yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom [are] all things, and through whom we [live].

To us there is one God, the Father, from whom comes every thing and by whom we live; and one LORD Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

8:7  However, this knowledge is not in all [people]; rather some, with consciousness of the idol, until now eat it as [something] offered to idols; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

Howbeit there is not in all men that knowledge: but some, being used until now to the idol, eat as [of] a thing sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

But knowledge is not in everyone. For some persons, even now, with consent to an idol, eat what has been sacrificed to an idol. And their conscience, being infirm, becomes polluted.

8:8  But food does not commend us to God; for neither if we eat do we have more, nor if we do not eat do we lack.

27  Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

11:33  Therefore, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.

33  And so, my brothers, when you assemble together to eat, be attentive to one another.

11:34  But if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest you come together for judgment. And the rest I will put in order when I come.
