1 Corinthians 4:0; 1:1–15:58

Paul, called [to be] an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,

Byz V

to the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, called [to be] saints, with all those who in every place are calling on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours

unto the church of God which is at Corinth, [even] them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called [to be] saints, with all that call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, their [Lord] and ours

Byz Nes V

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and YHWH Jesus Christ.

Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and from our LORD Jesus Christ.

Byz Nes S TR

I thank my God always on your behalf for the grace of God which was given to you in Christ Jesus,

I give thanks to my God continuously for you because of the grace of God that has been given to you in Christ Jesus.

Byz Nes TR

that in everything you were enriched by Him in all speech and all knowledge,

By that grace, in all things, you have become wealthy in him, in every word and in all knowledge.

For in everything you are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;

Byz V

just as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you,

even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you

Because the testimony of Christ has been confirmed in you

Byz Nes TR V S

so that you are not lacking in any gift, eagerly awaiting the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Byz S TR

who will also confirm you until the end, [that you may be] unimpeachable in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

who shall also confirm you unto the end, [that ye be] unreproveable in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

And he, too, will strengthen you, even until the end, without guilt, until the day of the advent of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Byz Nes V TR

God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

God, by whom you have been called to the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our LORD, is trustworthy.

10  Now I beseech you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but you be made complete in the same mind and in the same opinion.

10  Now I beseech you, my brethren, in the name of our LORD Jesus Christ, to be of one accord, and let there be no divisions among you but be perfectly united in one mind and in one thought.

Byz V
Nes TR

11  For it has been reported to me concerning you, my brothers, by those of Chloe's household, that there is quarreling among you.

11  For it hath been signified unto me concerning you, my brethren, by them [that are of the household] of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

11  For I have been informed about you, my brethren, by the household of ChloÆe that there are disputes among you.

Byz TR Nes TR
V
S

12  Now I say this, that each of you says, "I am of Paul,"and "I[ ]of Apollos,"and "I[ ]of Cephas,"and "I of Christ."

12  Now I say this because each of you is saying: “Certainly, I am of Paul;” “But I am of Apollo;” “Truly, I am of Cephas;” as well as: “I am of Christ.”

12  Now this I say, because there are some among you who say, I am a follower of Paul; and some who say, I am a follower of ApolÆlos; and some who say, I am a follower of CeÆphas; and some who say, I am a follower of Christ.

Byz Nes V S TR

13  Has Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

Byz Nes TR
V
S

14  I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius,

14  I give thanks to God that I have baptized none of you, except Crispus and Gaius,

14  I confess to my God that I have baptized none of you, except CrisÆpus and GaÆius;

Byz Nes V TR
S

15  lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name.

15  So no man can say that I have baptized in my own name.

Byz
Nes V S TR

16  Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas. Besides, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.

16  And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.

Byz Nes V S TR

17  For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ should be deprived of its power.

Byz Nes S
V
TR

18  For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

18  For the Word of the Cross is certainly foolishness to those who are perishing. But to those who have been saved, that is, to us, it is the power of God.

18  For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Byz Nes S TR
V

19  For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the understanding of the prudent I will annul."

19  For it has been written: “I will perish the wisdom of the wise, and I will reject the discernment of the prudent.”

20  Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

20  Where are the wise? Where are the scribes? Where are the truth-seekers of this age? Has not God made the wisdom of this world into foolishness?

Byz V Nes TR
S

21  For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, God was well pleased, through the foolishness of our preaching, to save those that believe.

21  Because all the wisdom which God had given was not sufficient for the world to know God, it pleased God to save those who believe by the simple gospel.

Byz TR
Nes

22  For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;

22  Seeing that Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom

22  For the Jews ask for signs, and the Greeks seek wisdom.

Byz Nes S TR
V

23  but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block, and to the Greeks foolishness,

23  But we are preaching Christ crucified. Certainly, to the Jews, this is a scandal, and to the Gentiles, this is foolishness.

Byz Nes V S TR

24  but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Byz Nes S TR
V

25  Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

25  For what is foolishness to God is considered wise by men, and that which is weakness to God is considered strong by men.

Byz Nes TR
V
S

26  For you see your calling, brothers, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many powerful, not many noble, [are called].

26  So take care of your vocation, brothers. For not many are wise according to the flesh, not many are powerful, not many are noble.

26  For consider also your own calling, my brethren, not many among you are wise in terms of worldly things, and not many among you are mighty, and not many among you belong to the nobility.

Byz Nes
V S
TR

27  But God chose the foolish things of the world in order that He might humiliate the wise, and God chose the weak things of the world in order that He might humiliate the mighty[.]

27  But God has chosen the foolish of the world, so that he may confound the wise. And God has chosen the weak of the world, so that he may confound the strong.

27  But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

Byz Nes TR
V S

28  And the lowly things of the world, and the despised things God has chosen, and the things which are not, in order that He might nullify the things which are,

28  And God has chosen the ignoble and contemptible of the world, those who are nothing, so that he may reduce to nothing those who are something.

Byz S
Nes TR
V

29  so that no man may boast before God.

29  that no flesh should glory before God.

29  So then, nothing that is of the flesh should glory in his sight.

Byz Nes TR
V

30  But from Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption;

30  But you are of him in Christ Jesus, who was made by God to be our wisdom and justice and sanctification and redemption.

30  But you also belong to God through Jesus Christ who, from God, is wisdom and righteousness and sanctification, and salvation to all of us.

Byz Nes TR
V S

31  that, as it is written, "He that boasts, let him boast in YHWH."

31  And so, in the same way, it was written: “Whoever glories, should glory in the Lord.”

Byz Nes TR
V

2:1  And I, brothers, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom, announcing to you the testimony of God.

And so, brothers, when I came to you, announcing to you the testimony of Christ, I did not bring exalted words or lofty wisdom.

AND I, my brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellency of speech, nor did I preach to you with learning the mystery of God.

Byz Nes V S TR

2:2  For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

2:3  And I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.

Byz Nes V
S TR

2:4  And my message and my preaching [were] not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

Byz
Nes TR
V S

2:5  in order that your faith might not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

so that your faith would not be based on the wisdom of men, but on the virtue of God.

Byz V TR
Nes

2:6  However, we speak wisdom among those that are mature, but not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are being destroyed.

We speak wisdom, however, among them that are fullgrown: yet a wisdom not of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, who are coming to nought

Howbeit we do discuss wisdom with those who have comprehension, yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the rulers of this world who pass away

Byz Nes TR
V
S

2:7  But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the [wisdom] having been hidden, which God foreordained before the ages for our glory,

Instead, we speak of the wisdom of God in a mystery which has been hidden, which God predestined before this age for our glory,

But we discuss the wisdom of God shown in a mysterious way, and it is hidden, but which God ordained before the world for our glory

Byz Nes S TR
V

2:8  which none of the rulers of this age understood (for had they understood, they would not have crucified YHWH of glory).

something that none of the leaders of this world have known. For if they had known it, they would never have crucified the Lord of glory.

2:9  But as it is written: "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those who love Him."

But this is just as it has been written: “The eye has not seen, and the ear has not heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man, what things God has prepared for those who love him.”

Byz Nes V S TR

2:10  But God has revealed [them] to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.

Byz Nes TR
V
S

2:11  For who among men knows the things of a man, except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

11  And who can know the things that are of a man, except the spirit which is within that man? So also, no one knows the things which are of God, except the Spirit of God.

11  For what man knows the mind of man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so, no man knows the mind of God, except the Spirit of God.

Byz S TR
Nes
V

2:12  Now we did not receive the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, in order that we might know the things freely given to us by God;

12  But we received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is from God; that we might know the things that were freely given to us of God.

12  But we have not received the spirit of this world, but the Spirit who is of God, so that we may understand the things that have been given to us by God.

Byz Nes TR

2:13  which things we also speak, not in words taught in human wisdom, but in words taught by the Holy Spirit, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

13  And we are also speaking of these things, not in the learned words of human wisdom, but in the doctrine of the Spirit, bringing spiritual things together with spiritual things.

13  For the things which we discuss are not dependent on the knowledge of words and manÆs wisdom, but on the teaching of the Spirit; thus explaining spiritual things to the spiritually minded.

2:14  But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

14  But the animal nature of man does not perceive these things that are of the Spirit of God. For it is foolishness to him, and he is not able to understand it, because it must be examined spiritually.

14  For the material man rejects spiritual things, for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

2:15  But he that is spiritual discerns all things, yet he himself is discerned by no man.

15  But the spiritual nature of man judges all things, and he himself may be judged by no man.

15  But the spiritual man discerns every thing, and yet no man can discern him.

Byz V TR

2:16  For "Who has known the mind of YHWH, that he may instruct Him?"But we have the mind of Christ.

16  For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

16  For who knows the mind of the LORD, that he may teach it? But we have the perception of Christ.

Byz Nes TR

3:1  And I, brothers, was not able to speak to you as to spiritual, but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ.

And so, brothers, I was not able to speak to you as if to those who are spiritual, but rather as if to those who are carnal. For you are like infants in Christ.

SO I, my brethren, could not converse with you as with spiritual men, but as with worldly men and even as with little children in Christ.

Byz V

3:2  I gave you milk to drink, and not solid food; for you were not yet able [to receive it]. Indeed, neither are you now yet able;

I fed you with milk, not with meat; for ye were not yet able [to bear it]: nay, not even now are ye able;

I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto you were unable to eat it, and even now you are not ready for it;

Byz TR Nes TR V
S

3:3  for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal, and walking according to human principles?

Because you are still worldly: for as long as there is among you envying and strife and divisions, are you not worldly and still following after the material things?

Byz Nes TR
V
S

3:4  For when one says, "I am of Paul,"and another, "I [am] of Apollos,"are you not carnal?

For if one says, “Certainly, I am of Paul,” while another says, “I am of Apollo,” are you not men? But what is Apollo, and what is Paul?

For while one says, I am a follower of Paul; and another, I am a follower of Apollos; are you not worldly?

Byz S TR
Nes

3:5  Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as YHWH has given to each one?

What then is Apollos? and what is Paul? Ministers through whom ye believed; and each as the Lord gave to him.

We are only the ministers of him in whom you have believed, just as the Lord has granted to each of you.

Byz Nes V
S TR

3:6  I planted, Apollos watered, but God gives the increase.

I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

Byz S
Nes TR

3:7  So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.

So then neither is he that planteth anything, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

And so, neither he who plants, nor he who waters, is anything, but only God, who provides the growth.

Byz V
Nes TR

3:8  Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor.

Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: but each shall receive his own reward according to his own labor.

Thus the planter and the waterer are equal: and each one shall receive his own wages according to his own labor.

3:9  For we are coworkers with God; you are God's field, you are God's building.

For we are God’s assistants. You are God’s cultivation; you are God’s construction.

For we work together with God: you are GodÆs work and GodÆs building.

3:10  According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise architect I have laid the foundation, but another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it.

Byz Nes V S

11  For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Byz TR

3:12  Now if anyone builds on this foundation [with] gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,

12  But if any man buildeth on the foundation gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, stubble;

12  Now if any man build on this foundation gold, silver, or precious stones, or wood, or hay, or stubble;

Byz Nes V TR

3:13  each one's work shall be made manifest; for the Day shall reveal it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall test each one's work, as to what sort it is.

13  Every manÆs work shall be plainly seen: for the light of day shall expose it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall test every manÆs work and show of what sort it is.

3:14  If anyone's work which he has built remains, he shall receive a reward.

14  And the builder whose work survives shall receive his reward.

Byz Nes V

3:15  If anyone's work is burned up, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, but so as through fire.

15  And the one whose work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be rescued, even as one who has been saved from the fire.

15  If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

3:16  Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

16  Know ye not that ye are a temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Byz Nes V S TR

3:17  If anyone destroys the temple of God, God shall destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which [temple] you are.

3:18  Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool, that he may become wise.

3:19  For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness";

Byz S TR

3:20  and again, "YHWH knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are useless."

20  and again, The Lord knoweth the reasonings of the wise that they are vain.

Byz Nes S TR

3:21  Therefore let no one boast in men. For all things are yours

21  And so, let no one glory in men.

3:22  whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or things present or things to come-all things[ ]are yours.

22  For all is yours: whether Paul, or Apollo, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or the present, or the future. Yes, all is yours.

3:23  And you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.

4:1  Let a man so consider us, as ministers of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

Accordingly, let man consider us to be ministers of Christ and attendants of the mysteries of God.

THIS is the way you should consider us: as the servants of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.

Byz Nes TR V

Henceforth it is required of stewards, that every one of them must be faithful.

Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

4:3  But to me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you, or by a human court. Indeed, I do not even judge myself.

But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man`s judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.

Byz

4:4  For I am conscious of nothing, but I have not been justified by this; but He who judges me is YHWH.

For I know nothing against myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.

For I have nothing on my conscience. But I am not justified by this. For the Lord is the One who judges me.

4:5  So then judge nothing before the time, until YHWH comes, who also will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make clear the purposes of the hearts. Then each one's praise shall come from God.

Wherefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall each man have his praise from God.

And so, do not choose to judge before the time, until the Lord returns. He will illuminate the hidden things of the darkness, and he will make manifest the decisions of hearts. And then each one shall have praise from God.

4:6  Now these things, brothers, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, in order that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other.

And so, brothers, I have presented these things in myself and in Apollo, for your sakes, so that you may learn, through us, that no one should be inflated against one person and for another, not beyond what has been written.

These things, my brethren, concerning myself and Apollos I have pictured for your sakes; that in our example you may learn not to think beyond that which is written, and let no one exalt himself over his fellow man, on account of any man.

For who maketh thee to differ? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? but if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory as if thou hadst not received it?

For who has inquired into you? And what do you have which was not given to you? and if you did receive it, then why do you boast, as if you had not received it?

Byz Nes S TR

15:1  Now I made known to you, brothers, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which you also stand,

MOREOVER, my brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, and which you have accepted, and for which you have stood firm;

By the Gospel, too, you are being saved, if you hold to the understanding that I preached to you, lest you believe in vain.

By which also you are saved if you keep in remembrance that very word which I have preached to you, and if your conversion has not been in vain.

15:3  For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

For I handed on to you, first of all, what I also received: that Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures;

Next he was seen by more than five hundred brothers at one time, many of whom remain, even to the present time, although some have fallen asleep.

After that, he appeared to more than five hundred brethren at once; of whom a great many are still living though some are dead.

15:8  And last of all, as of [one] born out of due time, He appeared to me also.

And last of all he appeared to me also, ignorant and imperfectly developed as I was.

15:10  But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than them all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

10  But, by the grace of God, I am what I am. And his grace in me has not been empty, since I have labored more abundantly than all of them. Yet it is not I, but the grace of God within me.

15:11  Therefore, whether it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

15:12  Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?

15:13  But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised.

15:14  And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain and your faith also is vain!

15:15  And we are found [to be ]false witnesses of God, because we bore witness concerning God, that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise-if in fact the dead are not raised.

15  Then, too, we would be found to be false witnesses of God, because we would have given testimony against God, saying that he had raised up Christ, when he had not raised him up, if, indeed, the dead do not rise again.

Byz Nes V S TR

15:16  For if the dead are not raised, [then] neither has Christ been raised.

15:27  For "He has subjected all things under His feet."But when He says that "all things have been subjected,"it is evident that [this is] except for Him who subjected all things to Him.

27  “All things have been subjected to him,” without doubt he does not include the One who has subjected all things to him.

27  For he has put all things under his feet. But when he said all things are put under him, it is clear that he, who put all things under him, is excepted.

15:40  And there[ are ]heavenly bodies, and earthly bodies; but the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another.

40  There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the [glory] of the terrestrial is another.

15:42  So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.

42  So it is also with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown in corruption shall rise to incorruption.

15:43  It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.

43  What is sown in dishonor shall rise to glory. What is sown in weakness shall rise to power.

15:44  It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
