The Bible in Its Traditions

1 John 3:0; 1:1–9:21

Byz Nes TR

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have gazed upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life-

He who was from the beginning, whom we have heard, whom we have seen with our eyes, upon whom we have gazed, and whom our hands have certainly touched: He is the Word of Life.

and the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and we declare to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us-

And that Life has been made manifest. And we have seen, and we testify, and we announce to you: the Eternal Life, who was with the Father, and who appeared to us.

For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness to it, and preach to you eternal life, which was with the Father, and was revealed to us;

that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, in order that you also may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.

He whom we have seen and heard, we announce to you, so that you, too, may have fellowship with us, and so that our fellowship may be with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

It is that which we have seen and heard that we declare to you, so that you also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

Byz Nes S TR

And these things we write to you that our joy may be fulfilled.

And this we write to you, so that you may rejoice, and so that your joy may be full.

Byz Nes V S TR

And this is the message which we have heard from Him and we announce to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

Byz V
Nes S TR

If we claim that we have fellowship with Him, and we are walking in the darkness, we are lying, and are not practicing the truth.

If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie, and do not the truth

Byz Nes V S TR

But if we are walking in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

If we claim that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

10  If we claim that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

2:1  My little children, these things I write to you, that you may not sin. And if someone should sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

Byz

2:2  And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not only concerning ours, but also concerning [those] of the whole world.

and he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.

2:3  Now by this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.

And hereby we know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

And we can be sure that we have known him by this: if we observe his commandments.

Byz V S

2:4  He who says, "I have come to know Him,"and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;

Byz Nes V S TR

2:5  But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.

2:6  He who claims to abide in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

he that saith he abideth in him ought himself also to walk even as he walked.

Whoever declares himself to remain in him, ought to walk just as he himself walked.

2:7  Brothers, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.

Beloved, no new commandment write I unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning: the old commandment is the word which ye heard.

My beloved, I do not write a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you have already heard.

Byz Nes S TR

2:8  Again, a new commandment I am writing to you, which [thing] is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light already shines.

Then too, I am writing to you a new commandment, which is the Truth in him and in you. For the darkness has passed away, and the true Light is now shining.

2:9  He who says that he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now.

Whoever declares himself to be in the light, and yet hates his brother, is in the darkness even now.

Byz Nes V S TR

2:10  He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.

Byz V S

2:11  But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

11  But he that hateth his brother is in the darkness, and walketh in the darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because the darkness hath blinded his eyes.

2:12  I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you on account of His name.

12  I write unto you, [my] little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name`s sake.

2:13  I am writing to you, fathers, because you have come to know Him[ who is] from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil [one]. I am writing to you, little children, because you have come to know the Father.

13  I write unto you, fathers, because ye know him who is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the evil one. I have written unto you, little children, because ye know the Father.

2:15  Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

15  Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

15  Do not choose to love the world, nor the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the charity of the Father is not in him.

Byz

2:16  Because everything that is in the world-the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life-is not from the Father but is from the world.

16  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the vain glory of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

21  I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and because no lie is of the truth.

21  I have not written to you as to ones who are ignorant of the truth, but as to ones who know the truth. For no lie is of the truth.

23  Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that confesseth the Son hath the Father also.

Whosoever is begotten of God doeth no sin, because his seed abideth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is begotten of God.

All those who have been born of God do not commit sin. For the offspring of God abides in them, and he is not able to sin, because he was born of God.

15  And we know that he hears us, no matter what we request; so we know that we can obtain the things that we request of him.

15  For if we beseech him to hear us concerning the things that we ask of him, we are assured that we have already received from him those things that we desire.

5:16  If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not [leading] to death, he shall ask, and He shall give him life for those who do not sin unto death. There is a sin [leading] to death. I do not say that he should ask about that.

16  Anyone who realizes that his brother has sinned, with a sin that is not unto death, let him pray, and life shall be given to him who has sinned not unto death. There is a sin which is unto death. I am not saying that anyone should ask on behalf of that sin.

16  If any man see his brother commit a sin which is not worthy of death, let him ask and Eternal Life. 1 John 5 life will be granted him, if he has not committed a sin worthy of death. There is a sin worthy of death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

5:19  We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies [under the sway] of the evil [one].

5:20  And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is true; and we are in Him that is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
