I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves the preeminence over them, does not receive us.

I wrote somewhat unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

As it happens, I had written to the church. But Diotrephes, who loves to bear the highest rank among them, would not accept us.

10  On account of this, if I come, I will call to mind his works which he does, slandering us with evil words. And not being content with that, he does not receive the brothers, and hinders those who desire to, casting them out of the church.

10  Therefore, if I come, I will bring to remembrance his works which he doeth, prating against us with wicked words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and them that would he forbiddeth and casteth [them] out of the church.

10  Because of this, when I come, I will admonish his works which he does, babbling against us with malicious words. And as if this were not sufficient for him, he himself does not receive the brothers. And those who do receive them, he hinders, and he ejects them from the church.

11  Beloved, do not imitate the evil, but the good. He that does good is of God; he that does evil has not seen God.

11  Most beloved, do not be willing to imitate what is evil; instead imitate what is good. Whoever does good is of God. Whoever does evil has not seen God.

11  Our beloved, do not follow that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is of God: but he who does evil has not seen God.
