1  The former account I made concerning all things, O Theophilus, which Jesus began both to do and teach,

1  Certainly, O Theophilus, I composed the first discourse about everything that Jesus began to do and to teach,

1  THE first book have I written, O TheophÆilus, concerning all the things which our Lord Jesus Christ began to do and teach

2  until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen,

2  instructing the Apostles, whom he had chosen through the Holy Spirit, even until the day on which he was taken up.

3  to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.

3  He also presented himself alive to them, after his Passion, appearing to them throughout forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God with many elucidations.

3  The very ones to whom he had also shown himself alive, after he had suffered, with many wonders during the forty days, while appearing to them and talking with them concerning the kingdom of God

4  And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to withdraw from Jerusalem, but to await for the Promise of the Father, "which,"He said, "you have heard from Me;

4  And dining with them, he instructed them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but that they should wait for the Promise of the Father, “about which you have heard,” he said, “from my own mouth.

5  for John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."

5  For John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.

6  Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?"

6  While they were assembled, they asked him, saying, Our LORD, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?

7  And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has placed in His own authority.

7  But he said to them: “It is not yours to know the times or the moments, which the Father has set by his own authority.

7  He said to them, It is not for you to know the time or times, which the Father has put under his own authority.

8  But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

8  But when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you shall receive power and you shall be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea also in the province of Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

8  But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9  Now after He said these things, while they were beholding [Him], He was lifted up, and a cloud withdrew Him from their sight.

9  And when he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10  And while they looked intently into heaven, while He was going, behold, two men stood along side them in white apparel,

10  And while they were watching him going up to heaven, behold, two men stood near them in white vestments.

11  who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up into heaven? This [same] Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you watched Him go into heaven."

11  And they said: “Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, shall return in just the same way that you have seen him going up to heaven.”

12  Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey.

12  Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is nigh unto Jerusalem, a Sabbath day`s journey off.

13  And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying; both Peter and James and John and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.

13  And after they had entered into the city, they went up into an upper room, where stayed Peter and John and James and Andrew, and also Philip and Thomas, and Matthew and Bar-tholÆo-mew and James the son of Al-phµÆus, and Simon the zealot, and Judas the son of James.

14  These were continuing with one mind in prayer and petition, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

14  These all with one accord continued stedfastly in prayer, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

14  All these were persevering with one accord in prayer with the women, and with Mary, the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

15  And in those days Peter, rising up in the midst of the disciples (altogether the number of names was about a hundred and twenty), said,

15  And in these days Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren, and said (and there was a multitude of persons [gathered] together, about a hundred and twenty),

16  "Men, brothers; it was necessary [for] this Scripture to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus;

16  Brethren, it was needful that the Scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spake before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus.

17  'for he was numbered with us and obtained a portion in this ministry.'"

17  He had been numbered among us, and he was chosen by lot for this ministry.

18  (Now this man purchased a field by means of the wages of[ his] iniquity,[ ] and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out.

18  And this man certainly possessed an estate from the wages of iniquity, and so, having been hanged, he burst open in the middle and all his internal organs poured out.

18  He is the one who earned for himself a field with the price of sin; and falling headlong, he burst open in the midst and all his bowels gushed out.

19  And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem; so that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is, Field of Blood.)

19  And this very thing is known to all who dwell in Jerusalem; so that the field is called in the language of the country, KhaÆkal- DeÆma which is to say Ko-ri-athÆdem, the field of blood.

20  "For it is written in the book of Psalms: 'Let his homestead become desolate, and let no one dwell in it'; and, 'May another take his office of overseer. '

20  For it has been written in the book of Psalms: ‘Let their dwelling place be desolate and may there be no one who dwells within it,’ and ‘Let another take his episcopate.’

20  For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no one dwell in it; and let his duty be taken by another man.

21  Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us in every time that YHWH Jesus went in and out among us,

21  Of the men therefore that have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us,

21  Therefore, it is necessary that, out of these men who have been assembling with us throughout the entire time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

22  beginning from the baptism of John until the day in which He was taken up from us, one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection."

23  And they nominated two: Joseph who is called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

23  So they appointed two: Joseph called BarÆsa-bas who was surnamed Justus, and Mat-thiÆas.

24  And they prayed and said, "You, O Lord, knower of all hearts, show whom You have chosen of these two

25  to receive a portion in this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place."

25  to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place.

26  And they cast their lots. And the lot fell on Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

2:1  And when the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2:2  And suddenly a sound came out of heaven, as being borne along by a violent wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

2  And suddenly, there came a sound from heaven, like that of a wind approaching violently, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.

2  Suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

2:3  Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.

3  And there appeared unto them tongues parting asunder, like as of fire; and it sat upon each one of them.

2:4  And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in different languages, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

2:5  And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation of those under heaven.

5  Now there were Jews staying in Jerusalem, pious men from every nation that is under heaven.

2:6  And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because they were hearing each one speaking in his own language.

6  And as the sound took place, all the people gathered together, and they were confused because every man heard them speak in his own language.

2:7  And they were all amazed and were marveling, saying to one another, "Behold, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?

7  Then all were astonished, and they wondered, saying: “Behold, are not all of these who are speaking Galileans?

2:8  And how [is it that] we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?

8  And how hear we, every man in our own language wherein we were born?

8  How is it that we hear every man in our own native language?

2:9  Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,

9  ParÆthi-ans and Medes and EÆlam-ites and those who dwell in Mes-o-po-taÆmi-a, Jews and Cap-pa-doÆci-ans and those from Pontus and Asia Minor,

2:10  Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya toward Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

10  And those from the region of PhrygÆi-a and of Pam-phylÆi-a and of Egypt, and of the regions of LibÆy-a near Cy-reÆne, and those who have come from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

2:11  Cretans and Arabs-we hear them speaking in our own tongues the mighty [deeds] of God."

11  likewise Jews and new converts, Cretans and Arabs: we have heard them speaking in our own languages the mighty deeds of God.”

11  And those from Crete, and Arabians, behold we hear them speak in our own tongues of the wonderful works of God.

2:12  So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "What might this mean?"

12  And they were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

2:13  Others were mocking and saying, "They are full of new wine."

13  But others mocking said, They are filled with new wine.

2:14  But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke out to them, "Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words.

14  And afterwards Simon Peter stood up together with the eleven disciples, and lifted up his voice and said to them, Men of Jewish race, and all that dwell at Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and harken to my words

2:15  "For these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is just the third hour of the day.

15  For these men are not drunken as you suppose for behold it is but the third hour of the day.

2:16  "But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel

16  but this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel

2:17  "And it shall be in the last days,"says God, "that I will pour My Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy; and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;"

17  ‘And this shall be: in the last days, says the Lord, I will pour out, from my Spirit, upon all flesh. And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy. And your youths shall see visions, and your elders shall dream dreams.

17  It shall come to pass in the last days, said God, I will pour my spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy and your young men shall see visions and your old men shall dream dreams

2:18  "And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.

18  Yea and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days Will I pour forth of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy.

18  And certainly, upon my men and women servants in those days, I will pour out from my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.

2:19  And I will give wonders in the heaven above, and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and vapor of smoke.

2:20  The sun shall be changed into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome Day of YHWH.

2:21  And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of YHWH shall be saved."

21  And this shall be: whoever shall invoke the name of the Lord will be saved.’

21  And it shall come to pass that whoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

2:22  "Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves also know-

22  Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as ye yourselves know;

2:23  Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you took, and by lawless hands, nailing [Him] to a cross, you killed [Him];

23  This man, under the definitive plan and foreknowledge of God, was delivered by the hands of the unjust, afflicted, and put to death.

23  The very one who was chosen for this purpose from the very beginning of knowledge and will of God, you have delivered into the hands of wicked men, and you have crucified and murdered him

2:24  whom God raised, [thus] doing away with the labor pains of death, because it was not possible for Him to be held by it.

24  whom God raised up, having loosed the pangs of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

24  And he whom God has raised up has broken the sorrows of Hell, for certainly it was impossible for him to be held by it.

2:25  For David says concerning Him, "I foresaw YHWH always before Me, because He is at My right hand, that I may not be shaken.

25  For David said about him: ‘I foresaw the Lord always in my sight, for he is at my right hand, so that I may not be moved.

25  For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved

2:26  Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; moreover my flesh also will dwell in hope.

26  Because of this, my heart has rejoiced, and my tongue has exulted. Moreover, my flesh shall also rest in hope.

2:27  Because You will not abandon my soul in Hades, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

27  Because thou wilt not leave my soul unto Hades, Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption.

2:28  You have made known to me the ways of life; You will fill me full of joy in Your presence."

28  Thou madest known unto me the ways of life; Thou shalt make me full of gladness with thy countenance.

28  You have revealed to me the way of life; you will fill me with joy with your presence.

2:29  "Men, brothers, let[ me] speak with boldness to you about the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

29  Now men and brethren, permit me to speak to you openly concerning Patriarch David, who is dead and buried and whose sepulchre is with us to this day.

2:30  "Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to seat [Him ]on his throne,

30  Therefore, he was a prophet, for he knew that God had sworn an oath to him about the fruit of his loins, about the One who would sit upon his throne.

2:31  foreseeing [this], he spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, "that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption."

31  he foreseeing [this] spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left unto Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.

31  So he foresaw and spoke concerning the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in the grave, neither did his body see corruption.

2:32  "This Jesus God has raised up, of which we all are witnesses."

32  This very Jesus, God has raised up, and we are all his witnesses.

2:33  "Therefore having being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.

33  It is he who is exalted by the right hand of God, and has received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, and has poured out gifts which you now see and hear.

2:34  "For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: `YHWH said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand,

34  For David ascended not into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

2:35  Till I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet."

35  until I make your enemies your footstool.’

2:36  "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."

36  Therefore, may the entire house of Israel know most certainly that God has made this same Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”

2:37  Now having heard this, they were cut to the heart, and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brothers, what shall we do?"

37  Now when they heard [this,] they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?

2:38  Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

38  And Peter [said] unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

2:39  "For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all those afar off, as many as YHWH our God will call."

39  For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, [even] as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him.

39  For the promise was made to you and to your children, and for all of those who are far off, even as many as the very God shall call.

2:40  And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, "Be saved from this crooked generation."

40  And then, with very many other words, he testified and he exhorted them, saying, “Save yourselves from this depraved generation.”

40  And he testified to them with many other words and besought them, saying, Save yourselves from this sinful generation.

2:41  Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added.

41  They then that received his word were baptized: and there were added [unto them] in that day about three thousand souls.

41  And those men among them who readily accepted his word and believed were baptized and about three thousand souls were added in that day.

2:42  And they were continuing in the teaching of the apostles, and in fellowship, and in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

42  And they continued stedfastly in the apostles` teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and the prayers.

42  Now they were persevering in the doctrine of the Apostles, and in the communion of the breaking of the bread, and in the prayers.

2:43  Then fear came upon every person, and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles.

43  And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.

43  And fear developed in every soul. Also, many miracles and signs were accomplished by the Apostles in Jerusalem. And there was a great awe in everyone.

2:44  Now all who believed were together, and they had all things in common,

44  And all that believed were together, and had all things common;

44  And then all who believed were together, and they held all things in common.

2:45  and they were selling their possessions and goods, and were dividing them among all, to the degree that anyone had a need.

2:46  So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were sharing food with joy and simplicity of heart,

46  And they went to the temple every day with one accord; and at home they broke bread, and they received food with joy and with a pure heart,

2:47  praising God and having favor with all the people. And YHWH was adding to the church daily those who were being saved.

47  praising God greatly, and holding favor with all the people. And every day, the Lord increased those who were being saved among them.

47  Praising God, and finding favor with all the people. And our LORD daily increased the congregation of the church.

3:1  Now Peter and John were going up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, [which was ]the ninth [hour].

1  IT came to pass as Simon Peter and John were going up together to the temple at the time of prayer, at the ninth hour,

3:2  And a man lame from his mother's womb was being carried, whom they would lay each day at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple;

2  And a certain man, who was lame from his mother’s womb, was being carried in. They would lay him every day at the gate of the temple, which is called the Beautiful, so that he might request alms from those entering into the temple.

2  Behold a certain man, lame from his motherÆs womb, was carried by men who were accustomed to bring him and lay him at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful so that he might ask alms from those who entered into the temple.

3:3  who, when he saw Peter and John about to enter into the temple, began asking for alms.

3  And this man, when he had seen Peter and John beginning to enter the temple, was begging, so that he might receive alms.

3  And when he saw Simon Peter and John entering the temple, he begged of them to give him alms.

3:4  And looking intently on him, Peter together with John, said "Look at us."

4  Then Peter and John, gazing at him, said, “Look at us.”

3:5  And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them.

5  And he looked intently at them, hoping that he might receive something from them.

5  And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.

3:6  But Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but [that ]which I do have, I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk."

6  Then Simon Peter said to him, Gold and silver have I none; but what I have I give to you: In the name of our LORD Jesus Christ of NazÆa-reth rise up and walk.

3:7  And taking hold of him by his right hand, he raised [him]; and immediately his feet and ankles were strengthened.

7  And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up; and in that very hour his legs and his feet received strength.

3:8  So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered with them into the temple, walking and leaping, and praising God.

8  And leaping up, he stood, and began to walk; and he entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

3:9  And all the people saw him walking and praising God.

3:10  Then they recognized that this was the one sitting for the alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with astonishment and amazement because of that which had happened to him.

10  and they took knowledge of him, that it was he that sat for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.

10  And they recognized that he was the beggar who had sat daily and asked alms at the gate which is called Beautiful; and they were filled with amazement and wonder at what had happened.

3:11  And while the lame man who had been healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch which is called Solomon's, utterly astonished.

11  And as he held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon`s, greatly wondering.

11  Then, as he held on to Peter and John, all the people ran to them at the portico, which is called Solomon’s, in astonishment.

3:12  So when Peter saw [this], he replied to the people: "Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made him to walk?

12  And when Simon Peter saw it, he said to them, Men of Israel, why are you wondering at this man or why are you looking at us as though by our own power or authority we had made this man to walk?

3:13  The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you indeed delivered up and denied Him in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him.

3:14  But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked that a murderer be released to you,

14  Then you denied the Holy and Just One, and petitioned for a murderous man to be given to you.

3:15  and killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

15  Truly, it was the Author of Life whom you put to death, whom God raised from the dead, to whom we are witnesses.

3:16  And on the basis of faith in His name, this [one ]whom you observe and know, was made strong by His name. And the faith, which is by Him, has given to him this wholeness before you all.

16  And by faith in his name hath his name made this man strong, whom ye behold and know: yea, the faith which is through him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

16  Faith in his name has healed this man whom you see and know and made him strong; it is the faith in him which has granted this healing before you all.

3:17  And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as your rulers did also.

17  But now, my brethren, I know that you did this through ignorance just as your leaders did it.

3:18  But those things which God announced beforehand by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled.

18  But in this way God has fulfilled the things that he announced beforehand through the mouth of all the Prophets: that his Christ would suffer.

3:19  Repent therefore and turn back, that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of YHWH,

19  Repent ye therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, that so there may come seasons of refreshing from the presence of the Lord;

19  Therefore, repent and be converted, so that your sins may be wiped away.

3:20  and that He may send He who had been ordained to be your Messiah, Jesus,

20  And then, when the time of consolation will have arrived from the presence of the Lord, he will send the One who was foretold to you, Jesus Christ,

20  And he shall send to you One who has been prepared for you, even Jesus Christ;

3:21  whom[ ]heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.

21  whom the heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, whereof God spake by the mouth of His holy prophets that have been from of old.

21  whom heaven certainly must take up, until the time of the restoration of all things, which God has spoken of by the mouth of his holy prophets, from ages past.

3:22  For Moses said to the fathers, 'YHWH our God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brothers. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you.

22  Indeed, Moses said: ‘For the Lord your God shall raise up a Prophet for you from your brothers, one like me; the same shall you listen to according to everything whatsoever that he shall speak to you.

3:23  'And it shall be that every person who does not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.'

23  And this shall be: every soul who will not listen to that Prophet shall be exterminated from the people.’

23  And it shall come to pass that every soul which will not listen to that prophet, shall be lost from her people.

3:24  Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and his successors, as many as have spoken, have proclaimed these days.

24  Yea and all the prophets from Samuel and them that followed after, as many as have spoken, they also told of these days.

24  And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and thereafter, have announced these days.

3:25  You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your offspring all the families of the earth shall be blessed.'

25  Ye are the sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

25  You are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, By your seed shall all the kindred of the earth be blessed.

3:26  To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities."

4:1  Now while they were speaking to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them,

4:8  Then Peter, having been filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders of Israel

4:9  If we today are being judged for a good work to a weak man, by what means he has been made well,

9  If we are convicted today by you, concerning the good which has been done to a sick man, on the ground of by what means he was healed;

4:10  let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by this[ name] this [man] stands here before you whole.

4:11  This is the 'stone which was rejected by you, the builders, which became the chief cornerstone.'

11  He is the stone which was set at nought of you the builders, which was made the head of the corner.

4:12  Nor is there salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven which has been given among men by which we must be saved."

12  And in none other is there salvation: for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, wherein we must be saved.

4:13  Now when they observed the boldness of Peter and John, and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.

13  Now when they beheld the boldness of Peter and John, and had perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

13  Then, seeing the constancy of Peter and John, having verified that they were men without letters or learning, they wondered. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.

4:14  But because they saw standing with them the man who had been healed, they had nothing to say against [them].

14  And seeing the man that was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

4:15  And they commanded them to go away outside the council, and began to confer among themselves,

4:16  saying, "What shall we do to these men? For indeed, that a known sign has come to pass by them is evident to all those who are dwelling in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.

4:20  For we can do none other but to speak the things which we saw and heard.

4:21  So having threatened them further, they released them, finding no way of punishing them, on account of the people, because they all were glorifying God over that which had occurred.

21  But they, threatening them, sent them away, having not found a way that they might punish them because of the people. For all were glorifying the things that had been done in these events.

4:22  For the man was over forty, on whom had come about this sign of healing.

22  For the man in whom this sign of a cure had been accomplished was more than forty years old.

4:23  And being released, they came to their own, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.

23  Then, having been released, they went to their own, and they reported in full what the leaders of the priests and the elders had said to them.

23  After they were released, they went to their brethren and told them all that the high priests and elders had said.

4:24  So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one mind and said: "Lord, You are God, who made heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them,

24  And they, when they heard it, lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, O Lord, thou that didst make the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that in them is

4:25  who by the mouth of Your servant David have said: 'Why did the nations rage, and the people conspired vain things?

25  who, by the Holy Spirit, through the mouth of our father David, your servant, said: ‘Why have the Gentiles been seething, and why have the people been pondering nonsense?

4:26  The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers were assembled together against YHWH and against His Christ.'

26  The kings and the rulers of the earth have revolted and have taken counsel together against the LORD and against his Anointed.

4:27  "For truly they were assembled against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel,

27  for of a truth in this city against thy holy Servant Jesus, whom thou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together,

4:28  to do all that Your hand and Your counsel foreordained to come to pass.

4:29  Now, Lord, look upon their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word,

4:30  by extending Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may come about through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus."

30  while thy stretchest forth thy hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of thy holy Servant Jesus.

30  Just as your hand is freely stretched out for healings, and wonders and the miracles which are done in the name of your holy Son Jesus.

4:31  And when they had prayed, the place where they were gathered was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

31  And when they had petitioned and made their supplications, the place in which they were assembled together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and they spoke the word of God boldly.

4:32  Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things belonging to him was his own, but they had all things in common.

4:34  Nor was there anyone needy among them; for all who were owners of lands or houses were selling them, and were bringing the proceeds of the things which had been sold,

4:35  and were placing them beside the feet of the apostles; and they were distributing to each, to the degree that anyone had need.

35  and laid them at the apostles` feet: and distribution was made unto each, according as any one had need.

35  And placed them at the disposal of the disciples; and the proceeds were then given to every man according to his needs.

4:36  And Joses, who was also named Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated Son of Encouragement), a Levite, a Cyprian by nation,

5:1  But a certain man named Ananias, together with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession.

5:2  And he kept back for himself from the price, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and placed it beside the feet of the apostles.

2  and kept back [part] of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles` feet.

5:3  But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart [for] you to lie to the Holy Spirit, and [for ]you to keep back for yourself from the price of the land?

3  But Peter said: “Ananias, why has Satan tempted your heart, so that you would lie to the Holy Spirit and be deceitful about the price of the land?

3  And Simon Peter said to him, An-a-niÆas, why has Satan so filled your heart that you should lie to the Holy Spirit and hide part of the money of the price of the field?

5:4  While it remained unsold, did it not remain yours? And after it was sold, was it not in your control? Why have you purposed this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God."

4  Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

5:5  Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and died. And great fear came upon all those who heard of it.

5  And Ananias hearing these words fell down and gave up the ghost: and great fear came upon all that heard it.

5  And when An-a-niÆas heard these words, he fell down and died; and great fear came upon all of those who heard these things.

5:6  And the young men rose up and covered him up, carried him out, and buried him.

6  The younger men among them arose, and moved his body aside. Then they took him out and buried him.

5:7  And it happened about three hours later, that his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in.

5:8  And Peter said to her, "Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?"She said, "Yes, for so much."

5:9  Then Peter said to her, "Why is it that it was agreed by you to tempt the Spirit of YHWH? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they shall carry you out [as well]."

5:10  Then immediately she fell down beside his feet and died. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her with her husband.

10  And in that very hour she fell down at their feet and died, and the young men came in and found her dead, and they picked her up and carried her away and buried her by the side of her husband.

5:11  And great fear came to be on all the church and upon all those who were hearing these things.

5:12  Now by the hands of the apostles, many signs and wonders took place among the people. And they were all with one mind in Solomon's Porch.

5:13  But none of the rest dared join them, but the people were magnifying them.

5:14  And more than ever, believers were added to YHWH, multitudes of both men and women,

14  Now the multitude of men and women who believed in the Lord was ever increasing,

5:15  so that they were bringing the sick[ ]and placing them on couches and pallets, so that as Peter was passing by, at least his shadow might fall on some of them.

15  insomuch that they even carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that, as Peter came by, at the least his shadow might overshadow some one of them.

5:16  And also the multitude from the surrounding cities were coming together into Jerusalem, bringing the[ ]sick and those[ ]who were tormented by unclean spirits, who were all being healed.

16  Many came to them from other cities around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and mentally afflicted, and they were all healed.

5:17  Then the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy,

21  Accordingly they went out early in morning and entered into the temple and taught the people. But the high priest and those who were with him called their associates and the elders of Israel, and sent to the prison to bring the apostles.

5:22  But when the attendants arrived, and did not find them in the jail, they returned and announced,

22  But the officers that came found them not in the prison; and they returned, and told,

5:23  saying, "Indeed we found the prison shut in all security, and the guards standing before the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one [inside]!"

23  saying: “We found the prison certainly locked up with all diligence, and the guards standing before the door. But upon opening it, we found no one within.”

5:24  Now when they heard these words, both the high priest and the captain of the temple, and the chief priests, they were greatly perplexed about them, as to what would come of this.

24  Now when the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were much perplexed concerning them whereunto this would grow.

24  Then, when the magistrate of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were uncertain about them, as to what should happen.

5:25  So one came and reported to them, [saying], "Behold, the men whom you put in jail are standing in the temple and teaching the people!"

25  And there came one and told them, Behold, the men whom ye put in the prison are in the temple standing and teaching the people.

5:26  Then the captain went with the officers and brought them without violence, for they were afraid of the people, lest they be stoned.

26  Then the leaders went with the soldiers to bring them, not by force, for they were afraid that the people might stone them.

5:27  And they brought them, and set them before the council. And the high priest asked them,

27  And when they had brought them, they stood them before the council. And the high priest questioned them,

5:28  saying, "Did we not give you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name? And behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you want to bring on us the blood of this Man!"

28  and said: “We strongly order you not to teach in this name. For behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and you wish to bring the blood of this man upon us.”

5:29  But Peter and the apostles answered, and said: "We must obey God rather than men.

29  Then Simon Peter with the rest of the apostles answered and said to them, We must obey God rather than men.

5:30  The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you murdered by hanging upon a cross.

5:31  Him God has exalted to His right hand as Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

31  It is he whom God has exalted at his right hand as Ruler and Savior, so as to offer repentance and the remission of sins to Israel.

31  This very one God has appointed a Prince and a Saviour, and has lifted him up by his right hand so that he may grant repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel.

5:32  And we are His witnesses of these words, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him."

32  And we are witnesses of these things; and [so is] the Holy Spirit, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

5:33  But when they heard this, they were infuriated and were resolving to kill them.

33  But they, when they heard this, were cut to the heart, and minded to slay them.

33  When they had heard these things, they were deeply wounded, and they were planning to put them to death.

5:34  Then someone in the council stood up, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law held in honor by all the people, and commanded them to put the apostles outside for a short time.

5:35  And he said to them: "Men of Israel, take heed to yourselves to these men, as to what you are about to do.

5:36  For before these days, Theudas rose up, claiming himself to be someone, to whom was joined a number of men, about four hundred. He was slain, and all who obeyed him were scattered and came to nothing.

5:37  After this arose Judas the Galilean, in the days of the census, and caused considerable number of people after him to revolt. He too perished, and as many as were persuaded by him were scattered.

37  After him rose up Judas, the Gal-i-leÆan, in the days when people were registering for the head tax, and he misled many people into following him. He died; and all of those who followed him were dispersed.

5:38  And now I say to you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if the counsel or this work is of men, it will come to nothing;

38  And now therefore, I say to you, withdraw from these men and leave them alone. For if this counsel or work is of men, it will be broken.

38  So now I tell you, Keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this thought and this work is of men, it will fail and pass away.

5:39  but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it-lest you even be found fighting against God."

39  Yet truly, if it is of God, you will not be able to break it, and perhaps you might be found to have fought against God.” And they agreed with him.

5:40  And they were persuaded by him, and when they called the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and released them.

40  And calling in the Apostles, having beaten them, they warned them not to speak at all in the name of Jesus. And they dismissed them.

5:41  Then they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing because they were counted worthy to be dishonored on behalf of the name of Jesus.

5:42  And daily in the temple, and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and proclaiming the gospel of Jesus the Christ.

6:1  Now in those days, as the disciples were increasing in number, there arose a complaint from the Greek speaking Jews against the Aramaic speaking Jews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution.

6:3  Therefore, brothers, select seven men from among you, of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint for this need.

3  Wherefore, brethren, examine and select from among you seven men of good repute who are full of the Spirit of the LORD and of wisdom, so that we may appoint them to this task.

3  Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

6:4  But we will faithfully engage in prayer and in the ministry of the word."

4  Yet truly, we will be continually in prayer and in the ministry of the Word.”

4  And we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.

6:5  And the word was pleasing before all the congregation, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch,

6:8  And Stephen, full of faith and power, was performing great wonders and signs among the people.

9  But certain ones, from the synagogue of the so-called Libertines, and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those who were from Cilicia and Asia rose up and were disputing with Stephen.

9  Then there arose certain men of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the LibÆer-tines, and Cy-reÆni-ans and Al-exanÆdri- ans and Ci-liÆci-ans and persons from Asia Minor, and they debated with Stephen.

6:10  And they were not able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke.

6:11  Then they secretly instigated men to say, "We have heard him speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God."

7:2  And he said, "Men, brothers and fathers, listen: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran,

7:3  and said to him, 'Go out from your land and from your relatives, and come to a land which I will show you.'

7:4  Then he went forth from the land of the Chaldeans and settled down in Haran. And from there, after his father was dead, He moved him to this land in which you now dwell.

7:5  And He gave him no inheritance in it, not even a place to put his foot on, and He promised to give it to him for a possession, and to his descendants after him, though he had no child.

7:6  But God spoke in this way: that his offspring would dwell in a foreign land, and that they would enslave them, and they would treat them badly four hundred years.

6  And God spake on this wise, that his seed should sojourn in a strange land, and that they should bring them into bondage, and treat them ill, four hundred years.

6  God spoke to him and said, Your descendants will be settlers in a foreign land where they will be enslaved and mistreated for a period of four hundred years.

7:7  'And the nation which they will serve, I will judge,' said God, 'and after these things they will come out and serve Me in this place.'

7  But the people to whom they will be enslaved I will condemn, said God, and after that, they shall go out and serve me in this land.

7:8  Then He gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so Abraham fathered Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac fathered Jacob, and Jacob fathered the twelve patriarchs.

8  And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so [Abraham] begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac [begat] Jacob, and Jacob the twelve patriarchs.

7:9  "And the patriarchs, being jealous of Joseph, sold him into Egypt; and God was with him,

9  And our forefathers were jealous of Joseph; so they sold him into Egypt; but God was with him.

7:10  and delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh, king of Egypt; and he made him ruler over Egypt and all his house.

10  And he rescued him from all his tribulations. And he gave him grace and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. And he appointed him as governor over Egypt and over all his house.

10  And he saved him from all his oppressors and gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh, king of Egypt; and Pharaoh appointed Joseph an overlord over Egypt and over all his house.

7:11  And a famine came over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction, and our fathers could find no provisions.

11  Now there came a famine over all Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.

7:12  And Jacob, hearing that there was grain in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first.

12  But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent forth our fathers the first time.

7:13  And the second [visit] Joseph was made known to his brothers, and Joseph's family became known to Pharaoh.

13  And on the second occasion, Joseph was recognized by his brothers, and his ancestry was made manifest to Pharaoh.

13  When they went the second time, Joseph made himself known to his brothers; and JosephÆs family was made known to Pharaoh.

7:14  Then Joseph sent and summoned his father Jacob and all his relatives, seventy-five people.

14  And Joseph sent, and called to him Jacob his father, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls.

7:15  So Jacob went down to Egypt; and he died, he and our fathers.

15  And Jacob went down into Egypt; and he died, himself and our fathers;

15  And Jacob descended into Egypt, and he passed away, and so did our fathers.

7:16  And they were brought back to Shechem, and were placed in the tomb which Abraham bought for a price of silver from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem.

16  and they were carried over unto Shechem, and laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a price in silver of the sons of Hamor in Shechem.

16  And he was removed to SyÆchem and buried in the sepulchre which Abraham had bought for a sum of money from the sons of HaÆmor.

7:17  Now when the time of the promise drew near which God swore to Abraham, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt,

17  But when the time of the promise was at hand, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people had already increased and become strong in Egypt,

7:18  until there arose a different king, who did not know Joseph.

18  till there arose another king over Egypt, who knew not Joseph.

18  even until another king, who did not know Joseph, rose up in Egypt.

7:19  This [king] took advantage of our race, and oppressed our fathers, to make their babies exposed, in order that they might not preserve their lives.

19  The same dealt craftily with our race, and ill-treated our fathers, that they should cast out their babes to the end they might not live.

19  This one, encompassing our kindred, afflicted our fathers, so that they would expose their infants, lest they be kept alive.

7:20  At this time Moses was born, and he was well pleasing to God; who was brought up in his father's house for three months.

20  At which season Moses was born, and was exceeding fair; and he was nourished three months in his father`s house.

20  In the same time, Moses was born. And he was in the grace of God, and he was nourished for three months in the house of his father.

7:21  But when he was exposed, the daughter of Pharaoh took him up, and brought him up for herself as a son.

21  and when he was cast out, Pharaoh`s daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son.

21  Then, having been abandoned, the daughter of Pharaoh took him in, and she raised him as her own son.

7:22  And Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was mighty in words and deeds.

22  So Moses was trained in all the wisdom of the E-gypÆtians and he was well versed in his words and also in his deeds.

7:23  Now when he had turned forty years old, it came into his heart to look upon his brothers, the sons of Israel.

23  But when forty years of age were completed in him, it rose up in his heart that he should visit his brothers, the sons of Israel.

23  And when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren, the children of Israel.

7:24  And seeing someone being wronged, he retaliated, and avenged him who was being oppressed, and struck the Egyptian.

24  And when he had seen a certain one suffering injury, he defended him. And striking the Egyptian, he wrought a retribution for him who was enduring the injury.

24  When he saw one of his own kindred mistreated, he avenged him and did justice to him, and killed the E-gypÆtian who had mistreated him.

7:25  For he supposed that his brothers understood that God was giving to them deliverance by his hand, but they did not understand.

25  Now he supposed that his brothers would understand that God would grant them salvation through his hand. But they did not understand it.

7:26  And on the next day he appeared to them as they were fighting, and [tried to] reconcile them to peace, saying, 'Men, you are brothers; why do you wrong one another?'

26  So truly, on the following day, he appeared before those who were arguing, and he would have reconciled them in peace, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers. So why would you harm one another?’

7:27  "But the one wronging his neighbor pushed him away, saying, 'Who appointed you a ruler and a judge over us?

27  But he who was causing the injury to his neighbor rejected him, saying: ‘Who has appointed you as leader and judge over us?

7:28  'Do you desire to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?'

28  Wouldest thou kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian yesterday?

28  Could it be that you want to kill me, in the same way that you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’

7:29  Now Moses, at this saying, fled and became a stranger in the land of Midian, where he fathered two sons.

29  Then, at this word, Moses fled. And he became a foreigner in the land of Midian, where he produced two sons.

7:30  And forty years having been fulfilled, an Angel of YHWH appeared to him in a flame of fire in a bush, in the wilderness of Mount Sinai.

30  And when forty years were completed, there appeared to him, in the desert of Mount Sinai, an Angel, in a flame of fire in a bush.

7:31  And Moses, seeing it, marveled at the sight; and as he approached it to observe closely, the voice of YHWH came to him,

31  And when Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold, there came a voice of the Lord,

31  And upon seeing this, Moses was amazed at the sight. And as he drew near in order to gaze at it, the voice of the Lord came to him, saying

7:32  saying, 'I am the God of your fathers-the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' And Moses was trembling and was not bold enough to look closely.

32  I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob. And Moses trembled, and durst not behold.

7:33  'Then YHWH said to him, "Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.

33  And the Lord said unto him, Loose the shoes from thy feet: for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

7:34  "I have certainly seen the mistreatment of My people in Egypt; I have heard their groaning and I have come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you to Egypt."'

34  Certainly, I have seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning. And so, I am coming down to free them. And now, go forth and I will send you into Egypt.’

7:35  This Moses whom they denied, saying, 'Who appointed you a ruler and a judge?' This man God sent as a ruler and redeemer by the hand of the Angel who appeared to him in the bush.

7:36  He led them out, and did wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and at the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

36  It was he who brought them out after he had performed miracles, wonders, and signs in the land of Egypt and in the Red sea and in the wilderness for forty years.

7:37  "This is that Moses who said to the sons of Israel, 'YHWH our God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brothers.

37  This is the Moses who said to the children of Israel, The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet, like me, from among your brethren; give heed to him.

7:38  This is he who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the Angel who was speaking to him on Mount Sinai, and [with] our fathers, the one who received the living oracles to give to us,

38  It was he who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him and to our fathers in Mount Sinai: He is the one who received the living words to give to us.

38  This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us

7:39  whom our fathers did not desire to be obedient, but they rejected [him] and returned in their heart back to Egypt,

39  to whom our fathers would not be obedient, but thrust him from them, and turned back in their hearts unto Egypt,

39  It is he whom our fathers were not willing to obey. Instead, they rejected him, and in their hearts they turned away toward Egypt,

7:40  saying to Aaron, 'Make for us gods who will go before us; as for this Moses who led us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him.'

40  They said to AarÆon, Make us gods to go before us, for this very Moses who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.

40  Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

7:41  And they made a calf in those days, offered a sacrifice to the idol, and were rejoicing in the works of their hands.

41  And so they fashioned a calf in those days, and they offered sacrifices to an idol, and they rejoiced in the works of their own hands.

7:42  But God turned away and gave them over to serve the host of heaven, just as it is written in the book of the Prophets: 'Did you offer Me slaughtered animals and sacrifices during forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?

42  Then God turned, and he handed them over, to subservience to the armies of heaven, just as it was written in the Book of the Prophets: ‘Did you not offer victims and sacrifices to me for forty years in the desert, O house of Israel?

7:43  Indeed you carried up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, the images which you made to worship them; and I will relocate you beyond Babylon.'

43  And ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, And the star of the god Rephan, The figures which ye made to worship them: And I will carry you away beyond Babylon.

43  And yet you took up for yourselves the tabernacle of Moloch and the star of your god Rephan, figures which you yourselves formed in order to adore them. And so I will carry you away, beyond Babylon.’

7:44  "The tabernacle of the testimony was with our fathers in the wilderness, just as the One speaking to Moses commanded him, to make it according to the pattern that he had seen,

44  Our fathers had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, even as he appointed who spake unto Moses, that he should make it according to the figure that he had seen.

44  Behold the tabernacle of the testimony of our fathers was in the wilderness just as he who spoke to Moses had commanded him to make it after the pattern which he had shown him.

7:45  which also our fathers, having received in turn, also brought in with Joshua into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers until the days of David,

45  But our fathers, receiving it, also brought it, with Joshua, into the land of the Gentiles, whom God expelled before the face of our fathers, even until the days of David,

45  And this very tabernacle, our fathers, together with Joshua, brought into the land which God took away from the peoples whom he drove out before them and gave it to them for an inheritance, and it was handed down until the days of David

7:46  who found favor before God and asked [opportunity ]to find a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.

46  who found grace before God and who asked that he might obtain a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.

7:47  But Solomon built Him a house.

47  But it was Solomon who built a house for him.

7:48  However, the Most High does not dwell in hand-made sanctuaries, just as the prophet says

48  Howbeit the Most High dwelleth not in [houses] made with hands; as saith the prophet,

48  Yet the Most High does not live in houses built by hands, just as he said through the prophet

7:49  'Heaven is My throne, and [the ]earth is My footstool. What kind of house will you build for Me? says YHWH, or what is the place of My rest?

49  The heaven is my throne, And the earth the footstool of my feet: What manner of house will ye build me? saith the Lord: Or what is the place of my rest?

7:50  Did not My hand make all these things?'

50  Behold, has not my hand made all these things?

50  Hath not my hand made all these things?

7:51  "You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, you also do.

51  Stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you ever resist the Holy Spirit. Just as your fathers did, so also do you do.

51  O you stubborn and insincere in heart and hearing, you always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do you.

7:52  Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold about the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers,

7:53  who have received the law as [the ]ordinances of angels and you did not keep it."

53  ye who received the law as it was ordained by angels, and kept it not.

53  You received the law by the actions of Angels, and yet you have not kept it.”

7:54  Now hearing these things they were infuriated in their hearts, and were gnashing their teeth at him.

54  Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.

54  Then, upon hearing these things, they were deeply wounded in their hearts, and they gnashed their teeth at him.

7:55  But being full of the Holy Spirit, looking intently into heaven, he saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God,

55  But he, being filled with the Holy Spirit, and gazing intently toward heaven, saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God.”

7:56  and he said, "Behold! I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!"

7:57  Then they cried out with a loud voice, covered their ears, and ran at him with one purpose;

57  But they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and rushed upon him with one accord;

7:58  and casting him outside the city, they stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their clothes beside the feet of a young man named Saul.

58  And they seized him and took him outside the city and began to stone him. Those who testified against him placed their clothes under the care of a young man called Saul.

58  And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.

7:59  And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."

7:60  Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not charge them with this sin."And having said this, he fell asleep."

60  And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

60  Then, having been brought to his knees, he cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep in the Lord. And Saul was consenting to his murder.

8:1  Now Saul was agreeing with them in his murder. And in that day there arose a great persecution against the church which was in Jerusalem; and they all were scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

1  Now in those days, there occurred a great persecution against the Church at Jerusalem. And they were all dispersed throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the Apostles.

1  SAUL was pleased to have had a part in the murder of Stephen. At that very time there was severe persecution against the church at Jerusalem; and they were all, with the exception of the apostles, dispersed throughout the towns of JudµÆa and SamaÆria.

8:2  And godly men buried Stephen, and they mourned deeply for him.

2  And devout men buried Stephen, and made great lamentation over him.

2  But God-fearing men arranged for Stephen’s funeral, and they made a great mourning over him.

8:3  But Saul was doing injury to the church, going in from house to house, and dragging away both men and women, and putting them in prison.

3  As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.

8:4  Therefore those who were scattered went about preaching the good news of the word.

4  So that they that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the word of God.

8:5  And Philip, going down to a city of Samaria, was preaching to them the Christ.

5  Then Philip went down to a Samaritan city and preached to them about Christ.

8:6  And the crowds with one accord gave heed to the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the signs which he was doing.

6  And when the people of that place heard his word, they gave heed and listened attentively to everything Philip said, because they saw the miracles which he did.

8:7  For many of those having unclean spirits [had ]cried out with a loud voice, [and the spirits ]came out; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed.

7  For many of them had unclean spirits, and, crying out with a loud voice, these departed from them.

7  Many who were mentally afflicted, cried with loud voices and were restored; and others who were paralytic and lame, were healed.

8:8  And there was great joy in that city.

8  And many of the paralytics and the lame were cured.

8:9  Now a certain man named Simon was previously in the city practicing magic and astounding the people of Samaria, claiming himself to be someone great,

9  But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who beforetime in the city used sorcery, and amazed the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one

9  Therefore, there was great gladness in that city. Now there was a certain man named Simon, who formerly had been a magician in that city, seducing the people of Samaria, claiming himself to be someone great.

8:10  to whom they gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, "This man is the great power of God."

10  And to all those who would listen, from the least even to the greatest, he was saying: “Here is the power of God, which is called great.”

10  And both the noblest and the least followed him, saying, He is the greatest power of God.

8:11  But they gave heed to him because of the long time that he had astonished them with the magic arts.

11  And they were attentive to him because, for a long time, he had deluded them with his magic.

11  All of them listened to him, because for a long time he had bewitched them with his sorceries.

8:12  But when they believed Philip as he preached the good news of the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

12  Yet truly, once they had believed Philip, who was evangelizing the kingdom of God, both men and women were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.

8:13  Then Simon himself also believed; and having been baptized, he was continuing with Philip, and observing miracles and signs occurring, he was astounded.

13  And Simon also himself believed: and being baptized, he continued with Philip; and beholding signs and great miracles wrought, he was amazed.

13  Semon himself also believed and was baptized and attached himself to Philip, and as he saw the miracles and great signs performed by his hand, he marvelled greatly.

8:14  Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John,

14  N ow when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that the Samaritan people had accepted the word of God, they sent to them Simon Peter and John,

8:15  who, coming down, prayed concerning them in order that they might receive the Holy Spirit.

15  who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit

15  And when they had arrived, they prayed for them, so that they might receive the Holy Spirit.

8:16  For He had not yet fallen upon any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of Christ Jesus.

16  for as yet it was fallen upon none of them: only they had been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.

8:17  Then they laid hands upon them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

8:18  Now when Simon observed that by the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,

18  But when Simon had seen that, by the imposition of the hands of the Apostles, the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,

18  And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

8:19  saying, "Give me this power also, that on whom ever I lay my hands he may receive the Holy Spirit."

19  saying, “Give this power to me also, so that on whomever I will lay my hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.” But Peter said to him

8:20  But Peter said to him, "Your money perish with you, because you thought to acquire the gift of God through money!

20  “Let your money be with you in perdition, for you have supposed that a gift of God might be possessed by money.

20  Simon Peter said to him, Let your money perish with you because you have thought that the gift of God may be purchased with wealth.

8:21  You have neither part nor portion in this word, for your heart is not right before God.

21  Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right before God.

21  There is no part or place for you in this matter. For your heart is not upright in the sight of God.

8:22  Repent therefore from this your wickedness, and make petition to God, if perhaps the intent of your heart will be forgiven you.

22  And so, repent from this, your wickedness, and beg God, so that perhaps this plan of your heart might be forgiven you.

22  Repent, therefore, of this evil of yours, and beseech God that he may perhaps forgive you for the guile which is in your heart.

8:23  For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of unrighteousness."

23  For I perceive you to be in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity.”

23  For I see your heart is as bitter as gall and you are in the bonds of iniquity.

8:24  Then Simon answered and said, "Pray to YHWH for me, that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me."

24  And Simon answered and said, Pray ye for me to the Lord, that none of the things which ye have spoken come upon me.

8:25  Then solemnly bearing witness to and speaking the word of YHWH, they returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many Samaritan villages.

25  They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.

25  Now when Simon Peter and John had testified and taught them the word of God, they returned to Jerusalem after they had preached in many Samaritan villages.

8:26  Now an angel of YHWH spoke to Philip, saying, "Get up and go toward the south on the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza."This is desolate.

26  But an angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza: the same is desert.

26  And the angel of the LORD spoke to Philip, saying, Arise, and go south by way of the desert that leads down from Jerusalem to Gaza,

8:27  So he got up and went; and behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch, a court official of Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem worshipping,

27  So he arose and went: and he was met by a eunuch, who had come from E-thi-oÆpi-a; an official of CanÆda-ce, queen of the E-thioÆpi- ans, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to worship at Jerusalem.

8:28  and he was returning. And sitting upon his chariot, he was reading the prophet Isaiah.

28  While he was returning, sitting in his chariot, he read the book of the prophet IsaÆiah.

28  Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.

8:29  Then the Spirit said to Philip, "Go near, and join yourself to this chariot."

29  And the Spirit said to Philip, Go near and keep close to the chariot.

8:30  And Phillip, running up to it, heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?"

30  And Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

30  And as Philip drew near and heard him reading from the book of the prophet I-saÆiah, he said to him, Do you understand what you are reading?

8:31  And he said, "How can I, unless someone helps me?"And he urged Philip to come up and sit with him.

31  And he said, “But how can I, unless someone will have revealed it to me?” And he asked Philip to climb up and sit with him.

31  And the E-thi-oÆpi-an said, How can I understand unless some one teach me? and he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

8:32  Now the portion of the Scripture which he was reading was this: "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, thus He opened not His mouth.

32  The portion of the scripture which he was reading was this: He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and like a ewe sheep before the shearer, so he opened not his mouth

32  The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth

8:33  In His humiliation His justice was taken away, and who will recount His generation? For His life is taken away from the earth."

33  He endured his judgment with humility. Who of his generation shall describe how his life was taken away from the earth?”

33  In his humiliation, he suffered imprisonment and judgment: none can tell his struggle, for even his life is taken away from the earth.

8:34  So the eunuch answered Philip and said, "Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this; of himself, or of someone else?"

34  And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other?

34  Then the eunuch responded to Philip, saying: “I beg you, about whom is the prophet saying this? About himself, or about someone else?”

8:35  And Philip, opening his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached the good news [about] Jesus to him.

35  Then Philip opened his mouth and began at that same scripture and preached to him concerning our LORD Jesus.

8:36  Now as they were going down the road, they came upon some water. And the eunuch said, "Behold, [here is] water: what prevents me from being baptized?"

36  And while they were going along the way, they arrived at a certain water source. And the eunuch said: “There is water. What would prevent me from being baptized?”

36  And as they went on their way, they came to a place where there was water; and the eunuch said, Behold here is water; what prevents me from being baptized?

8:37  [And Philip said, If thou believest with all thy heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.]

37  Then Philip said, “If you believe from your whole heart, it is permitted.” And he responded by saying, “I believe the Son of God to be Jesus the Christ.”

8:38  And he ordered the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, both Phillip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.

38  And he commanded the chariot be stopped: and both went down into the water, and Philip baptized the eunuch.

8:39  Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of YHWH caught up Philip, and the eunuch did not see him any longer; and he went on his way rejoicing.

39  And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more, for he went on his way rejoicing.

8:40  But Philip was found at Azotus. And as he passed through, he preached the gospel to all the cities until he came to Caesarea.

40  Now Philip was found in Azotus. And continuing on, he evangelized all the cities, until he arrived in Caesarea.

40  Philip was found at Az-oÆtus: and from there he traveled around and preached in all the cities till he came to Cµs-a-reÆa.

9:1  Then Saul, still breathing murderous threats against the disciples of YHWH, went to the high priest

1  Now Saul, still breathing threats and beatings against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,

1  NOW Saul was still filled with anger and with threats of murder against the disciples of our LORD,

9:2  and requested from him letters [of authority ]to the synagogues of Damascus, that if he should find any who were of the Way, both men or women, he might bring them, having been bound, to Jerusalem.

9:3  And as he was going, it came about that he drew near to Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven.

3  And as he journeyed, it came to pass that he drew nigh unto Damascus: and suddenly there shone round about him a light out of heaven

9:4  And falling on the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?"

4  and he fell upon the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

4  And he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? You make it hard for yourself by kicking against the pricks.

9:5  And he said, "Who are You, Lord?"And YHWH said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.

5  Saul answered and said, Who are you my LORD? and our LORD said, I am Jesus of Nazareth whom you persecute

5  And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

9:6  "But rise up and enter into the city, and it will be spoken to you what you must do."

6  And he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do you want me to do?”

6  And he, trembling and astonished, said, LORD, what will you have me to do? And the LORD said to him, Arise and go into the city, and there you will be told what you must do.

9:7  And the men who were traveling with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but seeing no one.

7  And the Lord said to him, “Rise up and go into the city, and there you will be told what you ought to do.” Now the men who were accompanying him were standing stupefied, hearing indeed a voice, but seeing no one.

9:8  And Saul got up from the ground, and although his eyes were open, he saw no one; and leading him by the hand, they brought [him] into Damascus.

8  Then Saul rose up from the ground. And upon opening his eyes, he saw nothing. So leading him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus.

9:9  And he was three days not seeing, and neither ate nor drank.

9  And in that place, he was without sight for three days, and he neither ate nor drank.

9:10  Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and YHWH said to him in a vision, "Ananias."And he said, "Behold I [am here], Lord."

10  And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.

9:11  And YHWH said to him, "Arise and go to Straight Street, and seek out in the house of Judas a man named Saul, of Tarsus; for behold, he is praying.

11  And the Lord [said] unto him, Arise, and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus: for behold, he prayeth;

9:12  And he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him, so that he might see again."

12  (And Paul saw a man named Ananias entering and imposing hands upon him, so that he might receive his sight.)

12  And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.

9:13  But Ananias answered, "Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how many wicked things he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem;

13  Then An-a-niÆas said, My LORD, I have heard from many concerning this man, how much misery he has brought to your saints in Jerusalem.

13  Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem

9:14  and here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who are calling on Your name."

14  And behold here also he has authority from the high priests to bind all who call on your name.

9:15  But YHWH said to him, "Go, for he is a chosen vessel to Me to bear My name before Gentiles and kings, and the sons of Israel.

15  But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles and kings, and the children of Israel

15  Then the Lord said to him: “Go, for this one is an instrument chosen by me to convey my name before nations and kings and the sons of Israel.

9:16  For I will show him all the things that he must suffer for My name's sake."

16  For I will reveal to him how much he must suffer on behalf of my name.”

9:17  And Ananias departed and entered the house; and laying his hands on him, he said, "Brother Saul, YHWH has sent me, He who appeared to you in the way which you were coming, so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit."

17  Then An-a-niÆas went to him at the house, and laying his hands on him, said, Saul, my brother, our LORD Jesus, who appeared to you on the way when you were coming, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

17  And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

9:18  And immediately[ something] like scales fell from his eyes, and he could see again. And he got up and was baptized.

18  And straightway there fell from his eyes as it were scales, and he received his sight; and he arose and was baptized;

18  And in that hour, there fell from his eyes something like scales; and his eyesight was restored; and he arose and was baptized.

9:19  And when he had received food, he was strengthened. Now Saul was with the disciples in Damascus three days.

19  and he took food and was strengthened. And he was certain days with the disciples that were at Damascus.

9:20  And immediately in the synagogues he was proclaiming Christ, that He is the Son of God.

20  From that time on, he preached in the Jewish synagogues concerning Jesus, that he is the Son of God.

9:21  And all those who heard were astounded, and were saying, "Is this not the one who destroyed those who called on this name in Jerusalem, and has come here for that purpose, so that he might take them having been bound, to the chief priests?"

21  And all that heard him were amazed, and said, Is not this he that in Jerusalem made havoc of them that called on this name? and he had come hither for this intent, that he might bring them bound before the chief priests.

9:22  But Saul all the more was growing strong, and was confounding the Jews who were dwelling in Damascus, proving that this [Jesus] is the Christ.

9:23  Now when many days were fulfilled, the Jews plotted to kill him.

23  And when many days were completed, the Jews took counsel as one, so that they might put him to death.

23  After he had been there many days, the Jews plotted against him to kill him.

9:24  But their plot became known to Saul. And they closely watched the [city] gates both day and night, in order that they might kill him.

24  But their treachery became known to Saul. Now they were also watching the gates, day and night, so that they might put him to death.

24  But their conspiracy was made known to Saul, how they watched the gates of the city day and night to kill him.

9:25  But the disciples, taking him by night, they let him down through the wall, lowering [him ]in a basket.

25  Then the disciples placed him in a basket and let him down over the wall during the night.

9:26  Now when Saul arrived in Jerusalem, he tried to join himself to the disciples; but they all were afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.

26  And when he was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: and they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.

26  Then Saul went to Jerusalem, and wanted to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, and could not believe that he was a convert.

9:27  But Barnabas, taking hold of him, brought him to the apostles, and related to them how he had seen YHWH on the way, and that He had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he spoke boldly in the name of Jesus.

9:28  So he went in and out among them at Jerusalem,

28  And he was with them going in and going out at Jerusalem,

28  And he was with them, entering and departing Jerusalem, and acting faithfully in the name of the Lord.

9:29  and speaking boldly in the name of YHWH Jesus, and he was speaking and disputing with the Greek-speaking Jews, but they were attempting to kill him.

29  He also was speaking with the Gentiles and disputing with the Greeks. But they were seeking to kill him.

9:30  But the brothers, learning about it, brought him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.

30  And when the brethren knew it, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.

9:31  Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified, and going in the fear of YHWH and in the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, were multiplying.

31  Certainly, the Church had peace throughout all of Judea and Galilee and Samaria, and it was being built up, while walking in the fear of the Lord, and it was being filled with the consolation of the Holy Spirit.

9:32  Now it came to pass, as Peter went through all [parts of the country], that he went down to the saints who were dwelling in Lydda.

32  And it came to pass, as Peter went throughout all parts, he came down also to the saints that dwelt at Lydda.

32  Then it happened that Peter, as he traveled around everywhere, came to the saints who were living at Lydda.

9:33  And he found there a certain man named Aeneas, who had been confined to a bed for eight years,[ ]who was paralyzed.

33  And there he found a man named ¦ æneas, who had been paralyzed and had lain in bed eight years.

9:34  And Peter said to him, "Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Arise and make your bed."Then he arose immediately.

34  And Simon Peter said to him, ¦ æne-as, Jesus Christ heals you: Arise, and make your bed. And he arose immediately.

9:35  And all who were dwelling at Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to YHWH.

9:36  Now in Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. This [woman] was full of good works and charitable giving which she was doing.

36  Now there was in the city of Joppa a woman disciple called TabÆi-tha, which means gazelle and interpreted Dorcas; she was rich in good works and in charitable acts.

9:37  But it came about in those days that she became ill and died; and they washed her, and put [her] in an upper room.

37  And it came to pass in those days, that she fell sick, and died: and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper chamber.

37  And it happened that, in those days, she became ill and died. And when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.

9:38  Now since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, having heard that Peter was in Joppa, sent to him, urging him not to delay in coming to them.

38  And the disciples heard that Simon Peter was in the city of LydÆda, which is beside Joppa; they sent to him two men, desiring him to come to them without delay.

9:39  And arising, Peter went with them. When he arrived, they took him into the upper room, and all the widows stood beside him weeping, showing [him ]tunics and cloaks which Dorcas was making, [while ]she was with them.

39  Then Peter, rising up, went with them. And when he had arrived, they led him to an upper room. And all the widows were standing around him, weeping and showing him the tunics and garments that Dorcas had made for them.

39  Then Simon Peter arose and went with them. And when he had arrived, they took him to the upper room where all the widows were gathered around her weeping and they showed him shirts and cloaks which TabÆitha had given them when she was alive.

9:40  But Peter, having put them all outside, knelt down and prayed. And turning to the body he said, "Tabitha, arise."And she opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat up.

40  And when they had all been sent outside, Peter, kneeling down, prayed. And turning to the body, he said: “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes and, upon seeing Peter, sat up again.

40  But Simon Peter put all the people out and knelt down and prayed; then he turned to the body and said, TabÆi-tha, arise. And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Simon Peter, she sat up.

9:41  And giving to her his hand, he raised her up; and when he called the saints and the widows, he presented her alive.

9:42  And it became known throughout all of Joppa, and many believed on YHWH.

42  And this was known throughout the city and many believed in our LORD.

9:43  And he stayed for some time in Joppa with a tanner [named ]Simon.

43  And it came to pass, that he abode many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.

43  Peter remained in Joppa many days, staying at the house of Simon Bur-saÆya, the tanner.

10:1  Now there was a certain man in Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian [Regiment],

1  THERE was in Cµs-a-reÆa a man called Cornelius, a centurion of the regiment which is called the Italian,

10:2  a devout [man], and one that feared God, together with all his household, who often gave alms to the people, and making petition to God always.

2  a devout man, fearing God with all his house, giving many alms to the people, and praying to God continually.

2  A righteous and God-fearing man as were all his household; which gave much alms to the people, and always sought after God.

10:3  About the ninth hour of the day, he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming to him and saying to him, "Cornelius!"

3  He saw in a vision openly, as it were about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God coming in unto him, and saying to him, Cornelius.

3  Very openly in a vision about three oÆclock in the afternoon he saw an angel of God who came in to him, and said to him, Cornelius.

10:4  And looking intently at him and becoming fearful he said, "What is it, lord?"And he said to him, "Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God.

4  And he, fastening his eyes upon him, and being affrighted, said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are gone up for a memorial before God.

10:5  Now send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter.

5  And now send men to Joppa, and fetch one Simon, who is surnamed Peter

10:6  He is staying as a guest with one Simon, a tanner, whose house is beside the sea."

6  he lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side.

6  This man is a guest with a certain Simon, a tanner, whose house is beside the sea. He will tell you what you must do.”

10:7  Now when the angel who had been speaking to Cornelius had departed, he called two of his household servants and a devout soldier from among those who waited on him continually.

7  And when the angel that spake unto him was departed, he called two of his household-servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;

7  And when the Angel who was speaking to him had departed, he called, out of those who were subject to him, two of his household servants and a soldier who feared the Lord.

10:8  And explaining to them everything, he sent them to Joppa.

8  and having rehearsed all things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.

8  And he related to them everything that he had seen, and sent them to Joppa.

10:9  Now on the next day, as they were traveling and drawing near to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, [at ]about the sixth hour.

9  Then, on the following day, while they were making the journey and approaching the city, Peter ascended to the upper rooms, so that he might pray, at about the sixth hour.

10:10  And he became hungry and wanted to eat; but while they were preparing, a trance fell on him.

10  And since he was hungry, he wanted to enjoy some food. Then, as they were preparing it, an ecstasy of mind fell over him.

10  And he became hungry, and wanted to eat: but while they were preparing food for him, he was seized with a sudden faintness.

10:11  And he saw heaven having been opened, and descending to him a certain vessel like a great sheet, having been bound at the four corners, and being let down upon the ground,

11  and he beholdeth the heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending, as it were a great sheet, let down by four corners upon the earth

10:12  in which were all the four-footed [animals] of the earth and the wild animals, and the reptiles, and the birds of the air.

12  wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts and creeping things of the earth and birds of the heaven.

10:13  And there[ ]came a voice to him, [saying], "Arise, Peter; kill and eat."

13  And a voice came to him: “Rise up, Peter! Kill and eat.”

10:14  But Peter said, "By no means, Lord! For never did I eat anything common or unclean."

14  But Peter said: “Far be it from me, lord. For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.”

14  But Simon Peter said, Far be it, my LORD; for I have never eaten anything which was unclean and defiled.

10:15  And a voice [spoke] again the second [time ]to him, "That which God has made clean, you must not make common."

15  And the voice, again a second time to him: “What God has purified, you shall not call common.”

15  And again the voice came to him a second time, What God has cleansed, you should not call unclean.

10:16  And this happened three times, and again the vessel was taken up into heaven.

16  Now this was done three times. And immediately the container was taken up to heaven.

16  This happened the third time: then the cloth was lifted up to the heaven.

10:17  Now as Peter was very perplexed within himself as to what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men who had been sent from Cornelius, having found by inquiry the house of Simon, stood at the gateway.

17  Now while Peter was much perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men that were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon`s house, stood before the gate,

17  Now while Simon Peter was bewildered, wondering in himself what the vision he had seen should mean, the men who were sent by Cornelius arrived, and enquired for the house in which Simon Peter had been staying, and they came and stood at the door of the courtyard.

10:18  And they called and asked whether Simon, whose surname was Peter, was lodging there.

18  And when they had called out, they asked if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, was a guest in that place.

18  And from there they called and asked if Simon who is called Peter stayed there.

10:19  Now while Peter pondered about the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Behold, men are seeking you.

19  And while Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.

19  Then, as Peter was thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you.

10:20  Arise therefore, go down and go with them, without wavering; for I have sent them."

20  But arise, and get thee down, and go with them, nothing doubting: for I have sent them.

10:21  And Peter, going down to the men, said, "Behold, I am he whom you seek. What is the reason for which you are here?"

21  Then Simon Peter went down to the men and said, I am the man you seek. What is the purpose of your mission?

21  Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?

10:22  And they said, "Cornelius the centurion, a righteous and God-fearing man, having a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was given a revelation by a holy angel to send for you to his house, and to hear words from you."

22  And they said: “Cornelius, a centurion, a just and God-fearing man, who has good testimony from the entire nation of the Jews, received a message from a holy Angel to summon you to his house and to listen to words from you.”

22  They said to him, A man called Cornelius, a righteous and God-fearing centurion of whom all the Jewish people speak well, was told in a vision by a holy angel to send and bring you to his house and to hear words from you.

10:23  Therefore he invited them in and received [them] as guests. Now on the next day Peter went forth with them, and some brothers from Joppa went with him.

23  So he called them in and lodged them. And on the morrow he arose and went forth with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

23  So Simon Peter brought them into the place where he was staying and welcomed them. The next day he arose and went with them, and a few men from amongst the brethren of Joppa accompanied him.

10:24  And on the next day they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and close friends.

24  And the next day they entered Cµs-areÆa. And Cornelius was waiting for them, and all his relatives and also his dear friends were assembled with him.

10:25  Now when it happened that Peter entered, Cornelius met him, [and] fell at his feet and worshipped [him].

25  And it happened that, when Peter had entered, Cornelius went to meet him. And falling before his feet, he reverenced.

25  And just as Simon Peter was entering, Cornelius met him and threw himself at his feet and worshipped him.

10:26  But Peter raised him up, saying, "Stand up; I myself am also a man."

26  Yet truly, Peter, lifting him up, said: “Rise up, for I also am only a man.”

26  But Simon Peter raised him, saying, Stand up; I am but a man also.

10:27  And talking with him he went in, and found many having gathered,

27  And as he talked with him, he went in, and findeth many come together

10:28  and he said to them, "You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to associate with or to approach a Gentile; and yet God has shown to me that I should call no man common or unclean;

28  and he said unto them, Ye yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to join himself or come unto one of another nation; and [yet] unto me hath God showed that I should not call any man common or unclean

28  And he said to them: “You know how abominable it would be for a Jewish man to be joined with, or to be added to, a foreign people. But God has revealed to me to call no man common or unclean.

10:29  therefore also without objecting, I came when I was sent for. I ask, then, for what reason have you sent for me?"

29  Because of this and without doubt, I came when summoned. Therefore, I ask you, for what reason have you summoned me?”

29  This is why I came at once when you sent for me: but now let me ask you, for what reason have you sent for me?

10:30  So Cornelius said, "From the fourth day until this hour I was fasting, and at the ninth hour I was praying in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in shining clothing,

30  And Cornelius said, Four days ago, until this hour, I was keeping the ninth hour of prayer in my house; and behold, a man stood before me in bright apparel,

10:31  and said, 'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your alms have been remembered before God.

31  and saith, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

31  ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your almsgiving has been remembered in the sight of God.

10:32  Send therefore to Joppa and summon Simon, whose surname is Peter. He is staying as a guest in the house of Simon, a tanner, beside the sea. When he arrives, he will speak to you.'

32  Therefore, send to Joppa and summon Simon, who is surnamed Peter. This man is a guest in the house of Simon, a tanner, near the sea.’

32  But send to the city of Joppa and bring Simon, who is called Peter; behold he is staying in the house of Simon Bur-saÆya, the tanner, by the seaside: and he will come and talk with you.

10:33  "Therefore immediately I sent to you, and you have done well to come. Now then we are all present before God, to hear all the things having been commanded you by God."

33  Forthwith therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God, to hear all things that have been commanded thee of the Lord.

33  And so, I promptly sent for you. And you have done well in coming here. Therefore, all of us are now present in your sight to hear all the things that were taught to you by the Lord.”

10:34  And Peter, opening his mouth, said: "In truth I comprehend that God is not One to show partiality.

34  And Peter opened his mouth and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons

34  Then, Peter, opening his mouth, said: “I have concluded in truth that God is not a respecter of persons.

10:35  But in every nation, he that fears Him and works righteousness is acceptable to Him.

35  But within every nation, whoever fears him and works justice is acceptable to him.

35  But among all people, he who fears him and works righteousness is accepted with him.

10:36  The word which God sent to the sons of Israel, preaching the good news of peace through Jesus Christ--He being Lord of all-

36  God sent the Word to the sons of Israel, announcing the peace through Jesus Christ, for he is the Lord of all.

36  For God sent the word to the children of Israel, preaching peace and tranquility by Jesus Christ: he is the LORD of all.

10:37  you know, the word coming to be throughout all of Judea, and beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John proclaimed,

37  that saying ye yourselves know, which was published throughout all Judaea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

37  And you also are familiar with the news which was published throughout Judµa, which sprang from Galilee, after the baptism preached by John;

10:38  Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all those who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with Him.

38  [even] Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

38  Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, whom God anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power, and who, because God was with him, went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil.

10:39  And we are witnesses of all things which He did, both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they also killed by hanging on a tree.

10:40  This [Jesus] God raised up on the third day, and caused Him to be seen,

40  Him God raised up the third day, and gave him to be made manifest,

10:41  not to all the people, but to witnesses, who having been chosen beforehand by God, [even] to us, who ate and drank together with Him after He arose from the dead.

10:42  And He commanded us to proclaim to the people, and to testify solemnly that He is the [One] having been appointed by God [to be] Judge of the living and the dead.

42  And he charged us to preach unto the people, and to testify that this is he who is ordained of God [to be] the Judge of the living and the dead.

10:43  To Him all the prophets bear witness, [that ]through His name, everyone believing in Him shall receive forgiveness of sins."

43  To him, all the prophets testified that whosoever believes in his name shall receive remission of sins.

10:44  While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.

44  While Simon Peter spoke these words, the Holy Spirit descended on all who heard the word.

10:45  And those of the circumcision who believed were astounded, as many as had come with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.

45  And the Jewish converts who had come with him were seized with amazement because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out on the Gentiles also;

10:46  For they heard them speaking in tongues and magnifying God. Then Peter answered,

10:47  "Surely no one can forbid water, can he, that these should not be baptized who received the Holy Spirit just as we have?"

47  Then Peter responded, “How could anyone prohibit water, so that those who have received the Holy Spirit would not be baptized, just as we also have been?”

10:48  And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of YHWH. Then they asked him to stay for some days.

48  And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Then they begged him to remain with them for some days.

11:1  Now the apostles and the brothers who were in Judea heard that even the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

1  And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

11:2  And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision were contending with him,

2  Then, when Peter had gone up to Jerusalem, those who were of the circumcision argued against him,

11:3  saying, "You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!"

3  Saying he had entered into the houses of uncircumcised men and had eaten with them.

11:4  But Peter, beginning [to speak,] was setting forth to them in order, saying,

4  And Peter began to explain to them, in an orderly manner, saying

4  Then Simon began to recite the facts one after another, saying,

11:5  "I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, a certain vessel coming down like a great sheet, being lowered by the four corners from heaven; and it came as far as me;

5  As I was praying in Joppa, I saw in a vision something like a linen cloth descending from the sky, and it was tied at its four corners; and it came even to me.

11:6  on which, looking intently, I was contemplating, and I saw the four-footed [animals] of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the reptiles, and the birds of the air.

6  upon which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw the fourfooted beasts of the earth and wild beasts and creeping things and birds of the heaven.

6  And as I looked at it, I saw that there were in it fourfooted beasts, and creeping things of the earth, and fowls of the air.

11:7  And I heard a voice saying to me, 'Arise, Peter; kill and eat.'

7  Then I also heard a voice saying to me: ‘Rise up, Peter. Kill and eat.’

7  Then I heard a voice saying to me, Simon, arise, kill and eat.

11:8  "But I said, 'By no means, Lord! For nothing common or unclean has ever entered into my mouth.'

8  And I said, Far be it, my Lord: for never has anything defiled and unclean entered my mouth.

11:9  "But the voice answered me a second [time] from heaven, 'What God has made clean, you must not make common.'

9  Then the voice responded a second time from heaven, ‘What God has cleansed, you shall not call common.’

9  But again the voice from heaven said to me, What God has cleansed, do not call unclean.

11:10  "And this was done three times, and again all things[ ]were drawn up into heaven.

10  Now this was done three times. And then everything was taken up again into heaven.

10  This happened three times: then everything was lifted up into heaven.

11:11  And behold, immediately three men stood before the house in which I was, having been sent from Caesarea to me.

11  And in that very hour, three men who were sent to me by Cornelius from Cµs-areÆa came and stood at the gate of the courtyard where I was staying.

11:12  And the Spirit said to me to go with them, without wavering. Now these six brothers also went with me, and we entered into the house of the man.

12  And the Spirit bade me go with them, making no distinction. And these six brethren also accompanied me; and we entered into the man`s house

12  Then the Spirit told me that I should go with them, doubting nothing. And these six brothers went with me also. And we entered into the house of the man.

11:13  And he related to us how he had seen the angel in his house, standing and saying to him, 'Send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter,

11:14  'who will speak words to you by which you and all your household shall be saved.'

14  who shall speak unto thee words, whereby thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house.

14  And he shall speak to you words, by which you shall be saved with your whole house.’

11:15  "And when I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, as also on us in the beginning.

15  And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them, as on us at the beginning.

11:16  And I remembered the word of YHWH, how He said, 'John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'

16  Then I remembered the words of the Lord, just as he himself said: ‘John, indeed, baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’

16  Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

11:17  "If then God has given to them the same gift as He gave to us, when we believed on YHWH Jesus Christ, who was I to hinder God?"

17  Therefore, if God gave them the same grace, as also to us, who have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I would be able to prohibit God?”

11:18  And hearing these things, they remained silent, and [they] glorified God, saying, "Then God has also granted even to the Gentiles repentance unto life."

18  Having heard these things, they were silent. And they glorified God, saying: “So has God also given to the Gentiles repentance unto life.”

18  When they heard these words, they held their peace and glorified God, saying, Perhaps God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance unto life.

11:19  Then those who were scattered because of the tribulation coming about over Stephen, went about as far as Phoenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews only.

19  Now those who had been dispersed by the persecution which occurred on account of Stephen, traveled as far as Phoe-niÆci-a and even to the land of Cyprus, and to AnÆtioch, preaching the word to none but to the Jews only.

11:20  But some of them were men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who, entering into Antioch spoke to the Greek speaking Jews, preaching the good news of YHWH Jesus.

20  But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Greeks also, preaching the Lord Jesus.

20  And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.

11:21  And the hand of YHWH was with them, and a great number believed,[ ]and turned to the Lord.

11:22  And the word about them was heard in the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent forth Barnabas to go as far as Antioch;

22  Then tidings of these things came to the attention of the members of the congregation at Jerusalem: and they sent BarÆnabas to AnÆti-och.

11:23  who, arriving and seeing the grace of God, was glad, and encouraged them all with purpose of heart to continue with YHWH,

23  who, when he was come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad; and he exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord

23  And when he had arrived there and had seen the grace of God, he was gladdened. And he exhorted them all to continue in the Lord with a resolute heart.

11:24  for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a considerable crowd was added to YHWH.

11:25  And Barnabas went forth to Tarsus to seek out Saul,

25  Then Barnabas set out for Tarsus, so that he might seek Saul. And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch.

11:26  and having found him, he brought him to Antioch. And it came about that for a whole year they assembled with the church and instructed many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

26  and when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that even for a whole year they were gathered together with the church, and taught much people, and that the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

26  And they were conversing there in the Church for an entire year. And they taught such a great multitude, that it was at Antioch that the disciples were first known by the name of Christian.

11:27  Now in these days prophets went down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

27  And in those days came prophets from Jerusalem to AnÆti-och.

11:28  And rising up, one of them named Agabus, foretold by the Spirit of a great famine about to happen in all the world, which also came to pass in the time of Claudius Caesar.

28  And one of them, named Agabus, rising up, signified through the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine over the entire world, which did happen under Claudius.

11:29  Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined as a ministry to send relief to the brothers dwelling in Judea;

29  And the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren that dwelt in Judea

11:30  which they also did, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.

30  This they did, and sent it there to the elders by the hands of BarÆna-bas and Saul.
