Deuteronomy 12:0; 29:1–30:20

M G V S Sam

These are the words of the covenant which YHWH commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which He made with them in Horeb.

And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them: Ye have seen all that YHWH did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land;

but YHWH hath not given you a heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.

Yet the Lord God has not given you a heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, until this day.

But the Lord has not given you an understanding heart, and seeing eyes, and ears that are able to hear, even to this present day.

And I have led you forty years in the wilderness; your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.

And he led you forty years in the wilderness; your garments did not grow old, and your sandals were not worn away off your feet.

He led you for forty years through the desert. Your garments have not been worn out, nor have the shoes on your feet been consumed by age.

Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink; that ye might know that I am YHWH your God.

Ye did not eat bread, ye did not drink wine or strong drink, that ye might know that I am the Lord your God.

And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them.

And ye came as far as this place; and there came forth Seon king of Esebon, and Og king of Basan, to meet us in war.

Observe therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may make all that ye do to prosper.

And ye shall take heed to do all the words of this covenant, that ye may understand all things that ye shall do.

Therefore, keep the words of this covenant, and fulfill them, so that you may understand all that you are doing.

10  Ye are standing this day all of you before YHWH your God: your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel,

10  Today, you all stand in the sight of the Lord your God: your leaders, and tribes, and those greater by birth, and teachers, all the people of Israel,

11  your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in the midst of thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water;

11  your wives, and your children, and the stranger who is in the midst of your camp, from your hewer of wood even to your drawer of water,

11  your children and wives, and the new arrival who dwells with you in the camp, aside from those who cut wood, and those who bring water,

12  that thou shouldest enter into the covenant of YHWH thy God--and into His oath--which the YHWH thy God maketh with thee this day;

12  so that you may cross into the covenant of the Lord your God, and into the oath which the Lord your God strikes with you today.

12  That you may not transgress the covenant of the LORD your God, and the oath of the LORD your God, which he made with you this day;

13  that He may establish thee this day unto Himself for a people, and that He may be unto thee a God, as He spoke unto thee, and as He swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

13  So shall he raise you up as a people to himself, and so shall he be your God, just as he has spoken to you, and just as he swore to your fathers: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

13  Because he will establish you this day a people to himself, and he will be to you the God, as he has promised you, and as he has sworn to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

14  Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath;

14  And I do not appoint to you alone this covenant and this oath;

14  And I am not forming this covenant and confirm these oaths with you alone,

15  but with him that standeth here with us this day before YHWH our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day--

15  but to those also who are here with you to-day before the Lord your God, and to those who are not here with you to-day.

15  but with all those who are present as well as those who are absent.

16  for ye know how we dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the midst of the nations through which ye passed;

20  YHWH will not be willing to pardon him, but then the anger of the YHWH and His jealousy shall be kindled against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven;

20  But the Lord would not ignore him. Instead, at that time, his fury and zealousness would be very greatly enflamed against that man, and all the curses which have been written in this volume would settle upon him. And the Lord would abolish his name from under heaven,

21  And the Lord shall separate that man for evil of all the children of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in the book of this law.

22  And the generation to come, your children that shall rise up after you, and the foreigner that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses wherewith YHWH hath made it sick;

22  And the subsequent generation would speak out, along with the sons who will be born afterward. And the sojourners, who will arrive from far away, will see the plagues of that land and the infirmities with which the Lord will have afflicted it,

23  and that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and a burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which YHWH overthrew in His anger, and in His wrath;

23  having burned it with sulphur and molten salt, so that it can no longer be sown. And certainly no greenery would spring up, as in the example of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the Lord overturned with his wrath and fury.

27  therefore the anger of YHWH was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curse that is written in this book;

27  And the Lord was exceedingly angry with that land to bring upon it according to all the curses which are written in the book of this law.

And you shall return and obey the voice of the LORD your God, and do all his commandments which I command you this day.

And the Lord your God will cause you to abound in all the works of your hands, in the progeny of your womb, and in the fruit of your cattle, in the fertility of your land, and with an abundance of all things. For the Lord will return, so that he may rejoice over you in all good things, just as he rejoiced in your fathers

And the LORD your God will make you plenteous in every work of your hand, in the fruit of your body and in the bearing of your cattle and in the fruit of your land, for good; for the LORD will again rejoice over you for good, as he rejoiced over your fathers;

30:11  For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not too hard for thee, neither is it far off.

11  This commandment, which I entrust to you today, is not high above you, nor has it been placed far away.

30:12  It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say: 'Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?'

12  Nor is it in heaven, so that you would be able to say, ‘Which of us can ascend to heaven, so as to carry it back to us, and so that we may hear it and fulfill it in deed?’

30:13  Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say: 'Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?'

13  Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you would excuse yourself by saying, ‘Which of us is able to cross the sea, and to carry it back to us, so that we may be able to hear and to do what has been instructed?’

30:14  But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

14  Instead, the word is near to you, in your mouth and in your heart, so that you may do it.

30:15  See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil,

15  Behold, I have set before thee this day life and death, good and evil.

15  Consider what I have set forth in your sight this day, life and good, or, on the opposite side, death and evil,

30:16  in that I command thee this day to love YHWH thy God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His ordinances; then thou shalt live and multiply, and the YHWH thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest in to possess it.

16  If thou wilt hearken to the commands of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to love the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his ordinances, and his judgements; then ye shall live, and shall be many in number, and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all the land into which thou goest to inherit it.

30:17  But if thy heart turn away, and thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;

17  But if your heart will have been turned aside, so that you are not willing to listen, and, having been deceived by error, you adore strange gods and serve them,
