having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

16  do not cease to give thanks concerning you, making mention of you in my prayers

18  May the eyes of your heart be illuminated, so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and the wealth of the glory of his inheritance with the saints,

18  And so that the eyes of your understanding may be enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the glorious riches of his inheritance in the saints;

19  and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power

2:2  in which you once walked according to the age of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit which is now working in the sons of disobedience,

wherein ye once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the powers of the air, of the spirit that now worketh in the sons of disobedience;

In which you previously walked according to the worldly course of this world, and according to the will of the supreme ruler of the air, the spirit which is active in the children of disobedience.

2:3  among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the senses, and were by nature children of wrath, as also the rest.

And we too were all conversant in these things, in times past, by the desires of our flesh, acting according to the will of the flesh and according to our own thoughts. And so we were, by nature, sons of wrath, even like the others.

In those very deeds in which we were also corrupted from the very beginning through the lusts of the flesh, fulfilling the wills of the flesh and of the mind: thereby we became completely the children of wrath, even as others.

2:4  But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,

Yet still, God, who is rich in mercy, for the sake of his exceedingly great charity with which he loved us,

2:5  even when we were dead in transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

2:6  and raised us up together, and seated us together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus,

2:7  that in the coming ages He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

so that he may display, in the ages soon to arrive, the abundant wealth of his grace, by his goodness toward us in Christ Jesus.

In the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Jesus Christ.

2:8  For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; [it is] the gift of God,

For it is by grace that you are saved through faith; not of your doing: it is the gift of God

2:9  not of works, lest anyone should boast.

And this is not of works, so that no one may glory.

2:10  For we are His handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

2:11  Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh-who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made by hands in the flesh-

11  Because of this, be mindful that, in times past, you were Gentiles in the flesh, and that you were called uncircumcised by those who are called circumcised in the flesh, something done by man,

11  Wherefore remember that you were Gentiles in the flesh from the beginning, and you were called Uncircumcision, differing from that which is called Circumcision, which is the work of the hands in the flesh.

2:12  that at that time you were apart from Christ, being estranged from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, not having hope and atheists in the world.

12  and that you were, in that time, without Christ, being foreign to the way of life of Israel, being visitors to the testament, having no hope of the promise, and being without God in this world.

12  At that time you were without Christ, being aliens to the customs of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of the promise, without hope, and without God in the world.

2:13  But now in Christ Jesus, you who once were far away have come to be near by the blood of Christ.

13  But now, through Jesus Christ, you who sometimes were far off are brought near by the blood of Christ.

2:14  For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and who destroyed the dividing wall of separation,

14  For he is our peace, who made both one, and brake down the middle wall of partition,

14  For he is our peace. He made the two into one, by dissolving the intermediate wall of separation, of opposition, by his flesh,

2:15  having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, that He might create in Himself one new man [from] the two, [thus] making peace,

15  emptying the law of commandments by decree, so that he might join these two, in himself, into one new man, making peace

15  And he has abolished by his precious body, the enmity between them, and he has abolished by his commandments, the ordinances of the law, that he may create, in his person, from the two, a new man, thus making peace;

2:16  and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, putting to death the enmity in Himself.

2:17  And having come, He preached peace to you who were far away and to those near.

2:18  Because through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.

2:19  So then, you are no longer strangers and aliens, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,

19  Thus from henceforth you are neither strangers, nor foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the saints, and children of the household of God;

2:20  being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone,

20  having been built upon the foundation of the Apostles and of the Prophets, with Jesus Christ himself as the preeminent cornerstone.

2:21  in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in YHWH,

21  In him, all that has been built is framed together, rising up into a holy temple in the Lord.

2:22  in whom you also are being built together for a habitation of God in the Spirit.

22  You also are builded by him for a habitation of God through the Spirit.

3:1  For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus in behalf of you Gentiles-

By reason of this grace, I, Paul, am a prisoner of Jesus Christ, for the sake of you Gentiles.

3:2  if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you,

Now certainly, you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God, which has been given to me among you

3:3  how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery, just as I wrote before briefly,

that, by means of revelation, the mystery was made known to me, just as I have written above in a few words.

3:4  with reference to which, when you read, you can understand my insight in the mystery of Christ,

Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

3:5  which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets

In other generations, this was unknown to the sons of men, even as it has now been revealed to his holy Apostles and Prophets in the Spirit,

3:6  that the Gentiles should be joint-heirs, and of the same body, and joint-partakers in His promise in Christ by the gospel,

[to wit], that the Gentiles are fellow-heirs, and fellow-members of the body, and fellow-partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel,

so that the Gentiles would be co-heirs, and of the same body, and partners together, by his promise in Christ Jesus, through the Gospel.

3:7  of which I became a minister according to the free gift of the grace of God which was given to me according to the working of His power.

Of this Gospel, I have been made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God, which has been given to me by means of the operation of his virtue.

3:8  To me, the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

Although I am the least of all the saints, I have been given this grace: to evangelize among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

Even to me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ

3:9  and to enlighten all [as to] what is the administration of the mystery, which had been hidden from the ages in God, who created all things through Jesus Christ;

and to enlighten everyone concerning the dispensation of the mystery, hidden before the ages in God who created all things,

3:10  that the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the rulers and authorities in the heavenlies,

10  to the intent that now unto the principalities and the powers in the heavenly [places] might be made known through the church the manifold wisdom of God,

10  so that the manifold wisdom of God may become well-known to the principalities and powers in the heavens, through the Church,

3:11  according to the eternal purpose which He made in Christ Jesus our Lord,

3:12  in whom we have the boldness and the access with confidence through faith in Him.

12  In him we trust, and so we approach with confidence, through his faith.

3:13  Therefore I beseech [you] not to lose heart at my tribulations on your behalf, which is your glory.

13  Wherefore I ask that ye may not faint at my tribulations for you, which are your glory.

3:17  that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; being rooted and founded in love,

3:19  and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

3:20  Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

4:1  Therefore I, the prisoner of YHWH, urge you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,

And so, as a prisoner in the Lord, I beg you to walk in a manner worthy of the vocation to which you have been called

4:7  But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of the free gift of Christ.

4:8  Therefore He says: "When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men."

Because of this, he says: “Ascending on high, he took captivity itself captive; he gave gifts to men.”

Wherefore it is said, He ascended on high, and took possession of heaven and gave good gifts to men.

4:9  But that "He ascended"-what is it but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?

Now that he has ascended, what is left except for him also to descended, first to the lower parts of the earth?

4:10  He that descended, He is also the [One] who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.

10  So he that descended is the same also that ascended far above all heavens, that he might fulfil all things.

4:11  And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,

11  And the same one granted that some would be Apostles, and some Prophets, yet truly others evangelists, and others pastors and teachers,

4:12  for the perfecting of the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ,

12  for the sake of the perfection of the saints, by the work of the ministry, in the edification of the body of Christ,

4:13  until we all arrive to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to [the] measure of [the] stature of the fullness of Christ;

13  till we all attain unto the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a fullgrown man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ

13  Until we all become one in faith, and in the knowledge of the Son of God, and become a perfect man according to the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ

4:14  that we may no longer be infants, being tossed as by waves, and being carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in regard to deceitful scheming,

14  So may we then no longer be little children, disturbed and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the wickedness of men, and by the craftiness which deceives unto error.

4:15  but speaking the truth in love, we may grow up in all things into Him who is the head-Christ;

15  Instead, acting according to truth in charity, we should increase in everything, in him who is the head, Christ himself.

15  But that we be sincere in our love, so that in everything we may progress through Christ, who is the head.

4:16  from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the working of the measure of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the edification of itself in love.

16  For in him, the whole body is joined closely together, by every underlying joint, through the function allotted to each part, bringing improvement to the body, toward its edification in charity.

4:17  This I say, therefore, and testify in YHWH, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

17  And so, I say this, and I testify in the Lord: that from now on you should walk, not as the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind,

4:18  having been darkened in understanding, being estranged from the life of God, because of the ignorance which is in them, because of the hardness of their heart;

18  And whose understanding is dark, and who are alienated from the life of God, because they have no knowledge, and because of the blindness of their hearts;

4:19  who, having become callous, gave themselves over to debauchery, for the working of uncleanness with utmost greediness.

19  Such as these, despairing, have given themselves over to sexual immorality, carrying out every impurity with rapacity.

19  And who have given up their hope, and have surrendered themselves to wantonness, and to the practice of all uncleanness in their covetousness.

4:20  But you did not thus learn Christ,

20  But this is not what you have learned in Christ.

20  But that is not what you have been taught about Christ;

4:21  if indeed you have heard Him and were instructed by Him, just as the truth is in Jesus

21  For certainly, you have listened to him, and you have been instructed in him, according to the truth that is in Jesus

4:22  that you put off, concerning your former way of life, the old man which is being corrupted according to the deceitful lusts,

22  to set aside your earlier behavior, the former man, who was corrupted, by means of desire, unto error,

4:23  and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

4:24  and that you put on the new man which was created in the likeness of God, in true righteousness and holiness.

4:25  Therefore, having put off falsehood, "Let each one speak truth with his neighbor,"for we are members of one another.

25  Wherefore, putting away falsehood, speak ye truth each one with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.

25  Because of this, setting aside lying, speak the truth, each one with his neighbor. For we are all part of one another.

4:26  "Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun set on your anger,

26  Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath

26  “Be angry, but do not be willing to sin.” Do not let the sun set over your anger.

4:27  nor give opportunity to the devil.

4:28  Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working that which is good with his hands, in order that he may have something to share with him who has need.

4:29  Let no corrupt word proceed from your mouth, but only what is good for edification, that it may give grace to them that hear.

29  Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for edifying as the need may be, that it may give grace to them that hear.

29  Let no evil words proceed from your mouth, but only what is good, toward the edification of faith, so as to bestow grace upon those who listen.

4:30  And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

30  And do not be willing to grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you have been sealed, unto the day of redemption.

4:31  Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and blasphemy be removed from you, with all malice.

31  Let all bitterness and anger and indignation and outcry and blasphemy be taken away from you, along with all malice.

4:32  And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as also God in Christ forgave us.

5:3  But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;

But let not any kind of fornication, or impurity, or rapacity so much as be named among you, just as is worthy of the saints,

But let not immorality or any uncleanness or covetousness be heard of among you, as becomes saints;
