and say to it, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against thee, and will make thee a waste, and thou shalt be made desolate.

Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, mount Seir, and I will extend my hand over you, and I will make you desolate and deserted.

I will lay thy cities waste, and thou shalt be desolate; and thou shalt know that I am YHWH.

And I will cause desolation in thy cities, and thou shalt be desolate, and thou shalt know that I am the Lord.

I will tear down your cities, and you will be deserted. And you shall know that I am the Lord.

Because thou hast had a hatred of old, and hast hurled the children of Israel unto the power of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time of the iniquity of the end;

For you have been a continual adversary, and you have enclosed the sons of Israel, by the hands of the sword, in the time of their affliction, in the time of extreme iniquity.

Because you have had a perpetual enmity and delivered the children of Israel over to the sword at the time of their calamity, at the time when their iniquity had come to an end,

therefore, as I live, saith YHWH GOD, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee; surely thou hast hated thine own blood, therefore blood shall pursue thee.

Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord God, verily thou hast sinned even to blood, therefore blood shall pursue thee.

Because of this, as I live, says the Lord God, I will hand you over to blood, and blood will pursue you. Even though you have hated blood, blood will pursue you.

Thus will I make mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it him that passeth through and him that returneth.

And I will make mount Seir a waste, and desolate, and I will destroy from off it men and cattle

I will make mount Seir waste and desolate, and destroy from it him that goes out and him that comes in.

And I will fill his mountains with his slain; in thy hills and in thy valleys and in all thy streams shall they fall that are slain with the sword.

And I will fill up its mountains with its slain. In your hills, and in your valleys, as well as in your torrents, the slain will fall by the sword.

I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall not return; and ye shall know that I am YHWH.

I will hand you over to everlasting desolations, and your cities will not be inhabited. And you shall know that I am the Lord God.

10  Because thou hast said: These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas YHWH was there;

10  For you have said, ‘Two nations and two lands will be mine, and I will possess them as an inheritance,’ though the Lord was in that place.

10  Because you have said, These two nations and these two kingdoms are mine, and we will possess them, though the LORD was there;

11  therefore, as I live, saith YHWH GOD, I will do according to thine anger and according to thine envy, which thou hast used out of thy hatred against them; and I will make Myself known among them, when I shall judge thee.

11  therefore, as I live, saith the Lord, I will even deal with thee according to thine enmity, and I will be made known to thee when I shall judge thee

11  Because of this, as I live, says the Lord God, I will act in accord with your own wrath, and in accord with your own zeal, by which you have acted with hatred toward them. And I will be made known by them, when I will have judged you.

12  And thou shalt know that I YHWH have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying: They are laid desolate, they are given us to devour.

12  And you shall know that I, the Lord, have heard all your disgraces, which you have spoken about the mountains of Israel, saying: ‘They are deserted. They have been given to us to devour.’

13  And ye have magnified yourselves against Me with your mouth, and have multiplied your words against Me; I have heard it.

13  and thou hast spoken swelling words against me with thy mouth: I have heard them.

13  And you rose up against me with your mouth, and you disparaged against me with your words. I have heard.

14  Thus saith YHWH GOD: When the whole earth rejoiceth, I will make thee desolate.

14  Thus says the Lord God: When the whole earth will rejoice, I will reduce you to solitude.

14  Thus says the LORD God to mount Seir which is situated at the happiest place on the earth: I will make you desolate.

M S

15  As thou didst rejoice over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto thee; thou shalt be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Edom, even all of it; and they shall know that I am YHWH.

15  Thou shalt be desert, O mount Seir, and all Idumea; and it shall be utterly consumed: and thou shalt know that I am the Lord their God.

15  Just as you have rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, when it was laid waste, so will I act toward you. You will be laid waste, O mount Seir, with all of Idumea. And they shall know that I am the Lord.”

36:1  And thou, son of man, prophesy unto the mountains of Israel, and say: Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of YHWH.

“But as for you, son of man, prophesy over the mountains of Israel, and you shall say: O mountains of Israel, listen to the word of the Lord.

ALSO, you Son of man, prophesy concerning the mountains of Israel, and say to the mountains of Israel, Hear the word of the LORD;

36:2  Thus saith YHWH GOD: Because the enemy hath said against you: Aha! even the ancient high places are ours in possession;

Thus saith the Lord God; Because the enemy has said against you, Aha, the old waste places are become a possession for us

Thus says the Lord God: Because the enemy has said about you: ‘It is well! The everlasting heights have been given to us as an inheritance!’

M
G S

36:3  therefore prophesy, and say: Thus saith YHWH GOD: Because, even because they have made you desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that ye might be a possession unto the rest of the nations, and ye are taken up in the lips of talkers, and the evil report of the people;

therefore prophesy, and say, Thus saith the Lord God; Because ye have been dishonoured, and hated by those round about you, that ye might be a possession to the remainder of the nations, and ye became a by-word, and a reproach to the nations

because of this, prophesy and say: Thus says the Lord God: Because you have been made desolate, and you have been trampled on every side, and you have been made into an inheritance for the remainder of the nations, and because you rose up, over the tip of the tongue and over the shame of the people,

M G S
V

36:4  therefore, ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of YHWH GOD: Thus saith the Lord GOD to the mountains and to the hills, to the streams and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes and to the cities that are forsaken, which are become a prey and derision to the residue of the nations that are round about;

because of this, O mountains of Israel, listen to the word of the Lord God. Thus says the Lord God to the mountains, and to the hills, to the torrents, and to the valleys, and to the deserts, and to the ruins, and to the forsaken cities, which have been depopulated and ridiculed by the remainder of the nations all around

M G
V
S

36:5  therefore thus saith YHWH GOD: Surely in the fire of My jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the nations, and against all Edom, that have appointed My land unto themselves for a possession with the joy of all their heart, with disdain of soul, to cast it out for a prey;

Because of this, thus says the Lord God: In the fire of my zeal, I have spoken about the remainder of the nations, and about all of Idumea, who have given my land to themselves, joyfully, as an inheritance, and with all the heart and mind, and who have cast it out, so that they may lay waste to it.

Therefore, thus says the LORD God: Surely in the fire of my indignation have I spoken against the rest of the nations and against all Edom, because they partitioned my land to themselves for an inheritance; and with the joy of their heart they have reproached the people that they might carry them captive and plunder them.

M G S

36:6  therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel, and say unto the mountains and to the hills, to the streams and to the valleys: Thus saith YHWH GOD: Behold, I have spoken in My jealousy and in My fury, because ye have borne the shame of the nations;

Therefore, prophesy over the soil of Israel, and you shall say to the mountains, and to the hills, to the ridges, and to the valleys: Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I have spoken in my zeal and in my fury, because you have endured the shame of the Gentiles.

M S
G

36:7  therefore thus saith YHWH GOD: I have lifted up My hand: Surely the nations that are round about you, they shall bear their shame.

therefore I will lift up my hand against the nations that are round about you; they shall bear their reproach.

Therefore, thus says the Lord God: I have lifted up my hand, so that the Gentiles, who are all around you, will themselves bear their shame.

36:8  But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to My people Israel; for they are at hand to come.

But your grapes and your fruits, O mountains of Israel, shall my people eat; for they are hoping to come.

But as for you, O mountains of Israel, spring forth your branches, and bear your fruit, to my people Israel. For they are close to their advent.

M G S

36:9  For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn unto you, and ye shall be tilled and sown;

For behold, I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you will be plowed, and you will receive seed.

36:11  and I will multiply upon you man and beast, and they shall increase and be fruitful; and I will cause you to be inhabited after your former estate, and will do better unto you than at your beginnings; and ye shall know that I am YHWH.

11  And I will multiply men and cattle upon you; and I will cause you to dwell as at the beginning, and will treat you well, as in your former times: and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

11  And I will fill you again with men and with cattle. And they will be multiplied, and they will increase. And I will cause you to live as from the beginning, and I will give you even greater gifts than those you had from the start. And you shall know that I am the Lord.

36:12  Yea, I will cause men to walk upon you, even my people Israel, and they shall possess thee, and thou shalt be their inheritance; and thou shalt no more henceforth bereave them of children.

12  And I will increase men upon you, even my people Israel; and they shall inherit you, and ye shall be to them for a possession; and ye shall no more be bereaved of them.

12  And I will lead men over you, over my people Israel, and they will possess you as an inheritance. And you shall be to them as an inheritance. And you shall no longer be permitted to be without them.

M G

36:13  Thus saith YHWH GOD: Because they say unto you: Thou land art a devourer of men, and hast been a bereaver of thy nations;

13  Thus says the Lord God: Because they are saying about you, ‘You are a woman who devours men, and you are strangling your own nation,’

M G

36:14  therefore thou shalt devour men no more, neither bereave thy nations any more, saith YHWH GOD;

14  because of this, you shall no longer consume men, and you shall no longer harm your own nation, says the Lord God.

14  Therefore, from henceforth you shall devour men no more, neither shall you be bereaved of your people any more, says the LORD God.

M V S

36:15  neither will I suffer the shame of the nations any more to be heard against thee, neither shalt thou bear the reproach of the peoples any more, neither shalt thou cause thy nations to stumble any more, saith YHWH GOD.'

36:17  'Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their way and by their doings; their way before Me was as the uncleanness of a woman in her impurity.

17  Son of man, the house of Israel dwelt upon their land, and defiled it by their way, and with their idols, and with their uncleannesses; and their way was before me like the uncleanness of a removed woman.

17  “Son of man, the house of Israel lived on their own soil, and they defiled it with their ways and with their intentions. Their way, in my sight, became like the uncleanness of a menstruous woman.

36:18  Wherefore I poured out My fury upon them for the blood which they had shed upon the land, and because they had defiled it with their idols;

18  So I poured out my wrath upon them

18  And so I poured out my indignation upon them, because of the blood which they shed upon the land, and because they defiled it with their idols.

M G V S

36:19  and I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed through the countries; according to their way and according to their doings I judged them.

36:20  And when they came unto the nations, whither they came, they profaned My holy name; in that men said of them: These are the people of YHWH, and are gone forth out of His land.

M S
G

36:21  But I had pity for My holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations, whither they came.

21  but I spared them for the sake of my holy name, which the house of Israel profaned among the nations, among whom they went.

21  But I have spared my holy name, which the house of Israel has defiled among the Gentiles, to whom they entered.

M G S

36:22  Therefore say unto the house of Israel: Thus saith YHWH GOD: I do not this for your sake, O house of Israel, but for My holy name, which ye have profaned among the nations, whither ye came.

22  For this reason, you shall say to the house of Israel: Thus says the Lord God: I will act, not for your sake, O house of Israel, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have defiled among the Gentiles, to whom you entered.

M G V

36:23  And I will sanctify My great name, which hath been profaned among the nations, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the nations shall know that I am YHWH, saith YHWH GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.

23  So that I may sanctify my great name, which has been profaned among the Gentiles, which you have caused to be profaned among them; and the Gentiles shall know that I am the LORD, says the LORD God, when my name shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.

M G S

36:24  For I will take you from among the nations, and gather you out of all the countries, and will bring you into your own land.

24  Certainly, I will take you away from the Gentiles, and I will gather you together from all the lands, and I will lead you into your own land.

M G V

36:25  And I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean; from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

25  Then I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and I shall purify you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.

M G S

36:26  A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.

26  And I will give to you a new heart, and I will place in you a new spirit. And I will take away the heart of stone from your body, and I will give to you a heart of flesh.

36:27  And I will put My spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes, and ye shall keep Mine ordinances, and do them.

27  And I will place my Spirit in your midst. And I will act so that you may walk in my precepts and keep my judgments, and so that you may fulfill them.

M G V S

36:28  And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be My people, and I will be your God.

36:29  And I will save you from all your uncleannesses; and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you.

36:30  And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye may receive no more the reproach of famine among the nations.

36:31  Then shall ye remember your evil ways, and your doings that were not good; and ye shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.

M G

36:32  Not for your sake do I this, saith YHWH GOD, be it known unto you; be ashamed and confounded for your ways, O house of Israel.

32  It is not for your sakes that I will act, says the Lord God; let this be known to you. Be confounded and ashamed over your own ways, O house of Israel.

32  But you must know, it is not for your sake that I am doing these things, says the LORD God; now be ashamed and refrain from your evil ways, that you may not die, O house of Israel.

M G S

36:33  Thus saith YHWH GOD: In the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the waste places shall be builded.

33  Thus says the Lord God: In the day when I will have cleansed you from all your iniquities, and when I will have caused the cities to be inhabited, and when I will have restored the ruinous places,

M S

36:34  And the land that was desolate shall be tilled, whereas it was a desolation in the sight of all that passed by.

34  and the desolate land shall be cultivated, whereas it was desolate in the eyes of every one that passed by.

M G S

36:35  And they shall say: This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are fortified and inhabited.

35  then they shall say: ‘This uncultivated land has become a garden of delight, and the cities, which were deserted and destitute and overturned, have been settled and fortified.’

M S
G V

36:36  Then the nations that are left round about you shall know that I YHWH have builded the ruined places, and planted that which was desolate; I the YHWH have spoken it, and I will do it.

36  And the nations, as many as shall have been left round about you, shall know that I the Lord have built the ruined cities and planted the waste lands: I the Lord have spoken, and will do it.

36:37  Thus saith YHWH GOD: I will yet for this be inquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them; I will increase them with men like a flock.

37  Thus saith the Lord God; Yet for this will I be sought by the house of Israel, to establish them; I will multiply them even men as sheep;

37  Thus says the Lord God: Even in this time, the house of Israel shall find me, so that I may act for them. I will multiply them like a flock of men,

37:1  The hand of YHWH was upon me, and the YHWH carried me out in a spirit, and set me down in the midst of the valley, and it was full of bones;

37:2  and He caused me to pass by them round about, and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.

M G S

37:3  And He said unto me: 'Son of man, can these bones live?' And I answered: 'O Lord GOD, Thou knowest.'

And he said to me, “Son of man, do you think that these bones will live?” And I said, “O Lord God, you know.”

37:4  Then He said unto me: 'Prophesy over these bones, and say unto them: O ye dry bones, hear the word of YHWH

37:5  Thus saith YHWH GOD unto these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live.

37:6  And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am YHWH.'

And I will set sinews upon you, and I will cause flesh to grow over you, and I will extend skin over you. And I will give you spirit, and you shall live. And you shall know that I am the Lord.”

37:7  So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a commotion, and the bones came together, bone to its bone.

And I prophesied, just as he had instructed me. But a noise occurred, as I was prophesying, and behold: a commotion. And the bones joined together, each one at its joint.

M S

37:8  And I beheld, and, lo, there were sinews upon them, and flesh came up, and skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them.

And I looked, and behold, sinews and flesh grew upon them, and skin came upon them above: but there was not breath in them.

And I saw, and behold: sinews and flesh rose up over them; and skin was extended over them. But they had no spirit within them.

37:9  Then said He unto me: 'Prophesy unto the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath: Thus saith YHWH GOD: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.'

And he said to me, Prophesy to the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord; Come from the four winds, and breathe upon these dead men, and let them live.

And he said to me: “Prophesy to the spirit! Prophesy, O son of man, and you shall say to the spirit: Thus says the Lord God: Approach, O spirit, from the four winds, and blow across these ones who were slain, and revive them.”

M G S

37:10  So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great host.

11  And he said to me: “Son of man: All these bones are the house of Israel. They say: ‘Our bones are dried out, and our hope has perished, and we have been cut off.’

37:12  Therefore prophesy, and say unto them: Thus saith YHWH GOD: Behold, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, O My people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel.

12  therefore prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will open your tombs, and will bring you up out of your tombs, and will bring you into the land of Israel.
