And YHWH remembered Sarah as He had said, and the YHWH did unto Sarah as He had spoken.

And the Lord visited Sarrha, as he said, and the Lord did to Sarrha, as he spoke.

Then the Lord visited Sarah, just as he had promised; and he fulfilled what he had spoken.

And Sarah said: 'God hath made laughter for me; every one that heareth will laugh on account of me.'

And Sarrha said, The Lord has made laughter for me, for whoever shall hear shall rejoice with me.

And Sarah said, God has made me to rejoice today exceedingly; everyone that hears the news will rejoice with me.

And she said: 'Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should give children suck? for I have borne him a son in his old age.'

And she said, Who shall say to Abraam that Sarrha suckles a child? for I have born a child in my old age.

And again, she said: “Hearing this, who would believe Abraham, that Sarah breast-fed a son, to whom she gave birth, despite being elderly?”

And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne unto Abraham, making sport.

And Sarrha having seen the son of Agar the Egyptian who was born to Abraam, sporting with Isaac her son,

10  Wherefore she said unto Abraham: 'Cast out this bondwoman and her son; for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.'

10  “Cast out this woman servant and her son. For the son of a woman servant will not be heir with my son Isaac.”

10  Therefore she said to Abraham, Expel this maidservant and her son; for the son of this maidservant shall not be heir with my son Isaac.

11  And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight on account of his son.

11  But the word appeared very hard before Abraam concerning his son.

11  Abraham took this grievously, for the sake of his son.

M Sam G

12  And God said unto Abraham: 'Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah saith unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall seed be called to thee.

12  And God said to him: “Let it not seem harsh to you concerning the boy and your woman servant. In all that Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice. For your offspring will be invoked in Isaac.

13  And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.'

13  Yet I will also make the son of the woman servant into a great nation, for he is your offspring.”

14  And Abraham arose up early in the morning, and took bread and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away; and she departed, and strayed in the wilderness of Beer-sheba.

14  And so Abraham arose in the morning, and taking bread and a skin of water, he placed it upon her shoulder, and he handed over the boy, and he released her. And when she had departed, she wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.

15  And the water in the bottle was spent, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.

15  And when the water in the skin had been consumed, she set aside the boy, under one of the trees that were there.

M Sam G

16  And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bow-shot; for she said: 'Let me not look upon the death of the child.' And she sat over against him, and lifted up her voice, and wept.

16  And she moved away and sat in a distant area, as far as a bow can reach. For she said, “I shall not see the boy die.” And so, sitting opposite her, he lifted up his voice and wept.

17  And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her: 'What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.

17  But God heard the voice of the boy. And an Angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, saying: “What are you doing, Hagar? Do not be afraid. For God has heeded the voice of the boy, from the place where he is.

18  Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him fast by thy hand; for I will make him a great nation.'

19  And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.

19  Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.

20  And God was with the lad, and he grew; and he dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.

20  And God was with the boy; and he grew up and dwelt in the wilderness of Paran and learned to become an archer in the wilderness of Paran.

21  And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran; and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

22  And it came to pass at that time, that Abimelech and Phicol the captain of his host spoke unto Abraham, saying: 'God is with thee in all that thou doest.

23  Now therefore swear unto me here by God that thou wilt not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son; but according to the kindness that I have done unto thee, thou shalt do unto me, and to the land wherein thou hast sojourned.'

23  Now therefore swear to me by God that thou wilt not injure me, nor my seed, nor my name, but according to the righteousness which I have performed with thee thou shalt deal with me, and with the land in which thou hast sojourned.

23  Therefore, swear by God that you will do no harm to me, and to my posterity, and to my stock. But according to the mercy that I have done to you, you will do to me and to the land, to which you have turned as a newcomer.”

24  And Abraham said: 'I will swear.'

25  And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of the well of water, which Abimelech's servants had violently taken away.

25  And he reproved Abimelech because of a well of water, which his servants had taken away by force.

26  And Abimelech said: 'I know not who hath done this thing; neither didst thou tell me, neither yet heard I of it, but to-day.'

26  And Abimelech responded, “I do not know who did this thing, but you also did not reveal it to me, nor have I heard of it, before today.”

27  And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them unto Abimelech; and they two made a covenant.

27  And so Abraham took sheep and oxen, and he gave them to Abimelech. And both of them struck a pact.

29  And Abimelech said unto Abraham: 'What mean these seven ewe-lambs which thou hast set by themselves?'

29  Abimelech said to him, “What purpose have these seven female lambs, which you have caused to stand separately?”

30  And he said: 'Verily, these seven ewe-lambs shalt thou take of my hand, that it may be a witness unto me, that I have digged this well.'

30  And Abraam said, Thou shalt receive the seven ewe-lambs of me, that they may be for me as a witness, that I dug this well.

30  But he said, “You will receive seven female lambs from my hand, so that they may be a testimony for me, that I dug this well.”

31  Wherefore that place was called Beer-sheba; because there they swore both of them.

31  Therefore he named the name of that place, The Well of the Oath, for there they both swore.

31  For this reason, that place was called Beersheba, because there both of them did swear.

32  So they made a covenant at Beer-sheba; and Abimelech rose up, and Phicol the captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.

32  And they made a covenant at the well of the oath. And there rose up Abimelech, Ochozath his friend, and Phichol the commander-in-chief of his army, and they returned to the land of the Phylistines.

32  And they initiated a pact on behalf of the well of oath.

33  And Abraham planted a tamarisk-tree in Beer-sheba, and called there on the name of YHWH, the Everlasting God.

33  And Abraam planted a field at the well of the oath, and called there on the name of the Lord, the everlasting God.

33  Then Abimelech and Phicol, the leader of his army, rose up, and they returned to the land of the Palestinians. In truth, Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and there he called upon the name of the Lord God Eternal.

M G S Sam

34  And Abraham sojourned in the land of the Philistines many days.

34  And he was a settler in the land of the Palestinians for many days.

22:1  And it came to pass after these things, that God did prove Abraham, and said unto him: 'Abraham'; and he said: 'Here am I.'

After these things occurred, God tested Abraham, and he said to him, “Abraham, Abraham.” And he answered, “Here I am.”

22:2  And He said: 'Take now thy son, thine only son, whom thou lovest, even Isaac, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt-offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.'

And he said, Take thy son, the beloved one, whom thou hast loved—Isaac, and go into the high land, and offer him there for a whole-burnt-offering on one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

He said to him: “Take your only begotten son Isaac, whom you love, and go into the land of vision. And there you shall offer him as a holocaust upon one of the mountains, which I will show to you.”

M G S Sam

22:3  And Abraham rose early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he cleaved the wood for the burnt-offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.

And so Abraham, getting up in the night, harnessed his donkey, taking with him two youths, and his son Isaac. And when he had cut wood for the holocaust, he traveled toward the place, as God had instructed him.

22:4  On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

Then, on the third day, lifting up his eyes, he saw the place at a distance.

And he said to his young men, You stay here with the ass, and I and the boy will go yonder to worship and return to you.

22:6  And Abraham took the wood of the burnt-offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took in his hand the fire and the knife; and they went both of them together.

He also took the wood for the holocaust, and he imposed it upon his son Isaac. And he himself carried in his hands fire and a sword. And as the two continued on together,

22:7  And Isaac spoke unto Abraham his father, and said: 'My father.' And he said: 'Here am I, my son.' And he said: 'Behold the fire and the wood; but where is the lamb for a burnt-offering?'

And Isaac said to Abraam his father, Father. And he said, What is it, son? And he said, Behold the fire and the wood, where is the sheep for a whole-burnt-offering?

Isaac said to his father, “My father.” And he answered, “What do you want, son?” “Behold,” he said, “fire and wood. Where is the victim for the holocaust?”

22:8  And Abraham said: 'God will provide Himself the lamb for a burnt-offering, my son.' So they went both of them together.
