The Bible in Its Traditions

John 10:0; 1:1–18:40

Byz Nes V S TR

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

He was in the beginning with God.

Byz Nes V

TR

All things came to be through Him, and without Him nothing came to be which has come to be.

Everything came to be by his hand; and without him not even one thing came to be of what was created.

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Byz Nes V TR
S

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

The life was in him, and the life is the light of men.

Byz Nes V S TR

And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not apprehend it.

There was a man sent from God, whose name [was] John.

Byz Nes TR
V
S

This [man] came for a testimony, so that he might testify concerning the Light, so that all through him might believe.

He arrived as a witness to offer testimony about the Light, so that all would believe through him.

He came as a witness to testify concerning the light, so that every man might believe by means of him.

Byz Nes V S TR

He was not that Light, but [was sent] so that he might testify concerning the Light.

Byz S TR
Nes

That was the true Light which lightens every man coming into the world.

There was the true light, [even the light] which lighteth every man, coming into the world.

The true Light, which illuminates every man, was coming into this world.

11  He came unto his own, and they that were his own received him not.

11  He went to his own, and his own did not accept him.

Byz Nes TR

12  But as many as received Him, He gave them the authority to become children of God, to those who believe in His name;

12  Yet whoever did accept him, those who believed in his name, he gave them the power to become the sons of God.

15  John testified concerning Him and has cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me, has come to be before me, because He was before me.' "

15  John beareth witness of him, and crieth, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me is become before me: for he was before me.

17  For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came to be through Jesus Christ.

18  No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, He who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared [Him].

18  No one ever saw God; the only-begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he himself has described him.

18  No man has ever seen God; but the firstborn of God, who is in the bosom of his Father, he has declared him.
