1  In those days John the Baptist arrived preaching in the wilderness of Judea,

1  And in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, saying,

1  Now in those days, John the Baptist arrived, preaching in the desert of Judea,

2  and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!"

2  Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

2  Saying, Repent; for the kingdom of heaven is near.

3  For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: "A voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of YHWH; make His paths straight.' "

3  For this is he that was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.

3  For it was he of whom it was said by the prophet Isaiah, The voice which cries in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, and straighten his highways.

4  And John himself had his clothing [made] from camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.

4  Now the same John had a garment made from the hair of camels, and a leather belt around his waist. And his food was locusts and wild honey.

4  And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.

5  Then Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan were going out to him

5  Then there went out to him, Jerusalem and all of Judaea, and the whole country around Jordan.

5  Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,

6  and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

6  And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

7  But seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

7  Then, seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees arriving for his baptism, he said to them: “Progeny of vipers, who warned to you to flee from the approaching wrath?

7  But when he saw a great many of the Pharisees and Sadducees who were coming to be baptized, he said to them, O offspring of scorpions, who has warned you to escape from the anger which is to come?

8  Therefore produce fruits worthy of repentance,

8  Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance

9  and do not think to say among yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham out of these stones.

9  and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

9  And do not choose to say within yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God has the power to raise up sons to Abraham from these stones.

10  But even now, the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

10  For even now the axe has been placed at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that does not produce good fruit shall be cut down and cast into the fire.

11  I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with [the] Holy Spirit,

11  Indeed, I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who will come after me is more powerful than me. I am not worthy to carry his shoes. He will baptize you with the fire of the Holy Spirit.

11  I am just baptizing you with water for repentance; but he who is coming after me is greater than I, the one even whose shoes I am not worthy to remove; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

12  whose winnowing shovel is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His threshing floor, and He will gather His wheat into the barn; but the chaff He will burn up with unquenchable fire."

12  Whose shovel is in his hand, and he purifies his threshings; the wheat he gathers into his barns, and the straw he burns up in the unquenchable fire.

13  Then Jesus arrived from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him.

13  Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

14  But John [tried to ]prevent Him, saying, "I have need to be baptized by You, and You are coming to me?"

14  But John refused him, saying, “I ought to be baptized by you, and yet you come to me?”

15  But Jesus answered and said to him, "Permit it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness."Then he permitted Him.

15  But Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer [it] now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffereth him.

15  And responding, Jesus said to him: “Permit this for now. For in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all justice.” Then he allowed him.

16  And having been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon Him.

16  And Jesus when he was baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him;

16  When Jesus was baptized, he immediately came out of the water; and the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and coming upon him;

17  And behold, a voice came out of the heavens, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I have found delight."

17  and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

4:1  Then Jesus was led up into the wilderness by the Spirit, to be tempted by the devil.

4:2  And having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.

2  And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he afterward hungered.

2  So he fasted forty days and forty nights; but at last he was hungry.

4:3  And approaching Him, the tempter said, "If You are the Son of God, speak so that these stones may become bread."

3  And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.

4:4  But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.' "

4  And in response he said, “It has been written: ‘Not by bread alone shall man live, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

4:5  Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, and set Him on the pinnacle of the temple,

4:6  and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: 'He shall give His angels orders concerning you,' and, 'In their hands they will lift you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.' "

6  and saith unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and, On their hands they shall bear thee up, Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone.

6  And he said to him, If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written, that he will command his angels concerning you, and they will bear you up on their hands, so that even your foot may not strike a stone.

4:7  Jesus said to him, "Again, it is written, 'You shall not tempt YHWH your God.' "

7  Jesus said unto him, Again it is written, Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God.

4:8  Again, the devil took Him up on a very high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory.

4:9  And he said to Him, "All these things will I give You, if You will fall down and worship me."

4:10  Then Jesus said to him, "Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship YHWH your God, and Him alone you shall serve.' "

10  Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

4:11  Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

11  Then the adversary left him alone; and behold the angels drew near and ministered unto him.

4:12  Now when Jesus heard that John had been imprisoned, He departed into Galilee.

12  Now when he heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee;

12  And when Jesus had heard that John had been handed over, he withdrew into Galilee.

4:13  And leaving Nazareth behind, He came and settled down in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali,

13  And he left Nazareth, and came and settled in Capernaum, by the seaside, within the borders of Zabulon and of Napthali.

4:14  so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying

14  in order to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah

4:15  "The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, by the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,

15  “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way of the sea across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles

4:16  the people sitting in darkness have seen a great light, and to those who sat in the land and the shadow of death, light sprang up on them."

4:17  From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

4:18  Now as He was walking alongside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

18  And while he was walking by the shore of the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter and his brother Andrew, who were casting nets into the sea, for they were fishermen.

18  And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

4:19  Then He said to them, "Come after Me, and I will make you fishers of men."

19  And he said to them: “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

4:20  They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

20  And at once, leaving behind their nets, they followed him.

4:21  And having gone forth from there, He saw two other brothers, James the [son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. And He called them.

21  And continuing on from there, he saw another two brothers, James of Zebedee, and his brother John, in a ship with their father Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them.

21  And when he left that place he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and his brother John, in a ship with Zebedee their father, repairing their nets; and Jesus called them.

4:22  And immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.

22  So they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.

4:23  And Jesus went about all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every illness among the people.

4:24  And the report of Him went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all those who were ill, and [who were ]suffering with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.

24  And reports of him went out to all of Syria, and they brought to him all those who had maladies, those who were in the grasp of various sicknesses and torments, and those who were in the hold of demons, and the mentally ill, and paralytics. And he cured them.

24  And his fame was heard throughout Syria; so they brought to him all who were badly afflicted with divers sickness, and those who were tormented with pains, and the insane, and the epileptics, and the cripples; and he healed them.

4:25  And large crowds followed Him from Galilee and from Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judea, and beyond the Jordan.

25  And there followed him great multitudes from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judaea and [from] beyond the Jordan.

25  And a great crowd followed him from Galilee, and from the Ten Cities, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from across the Jordan.

5:1  And seeing the crowds, He went up into the mountain, and after He had sat down, His disciples approached Him.

1  Then, seeing the crowds, he ascended the mountain, and when he had sat down, his disciples drew near to him,

1  WHEN Jesus saw the crowds, he went up to the mountain; and as he sat down, his disciples drew near to him.

5:2  And opening His mouth, He began to teach them, saying

2  and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying,

5:3  "Blessed [are] the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

5:4  Blessed [are] those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

4  Blessed are the meek, for they shall possess the earth.

5:5  Blessed [are] the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

5  Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be consoled.

5:6  Blessed [are] those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.

5:7  Blessed [are] the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

5:8  Blessed [are] the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

5:9  Blessed [are] the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

5:10  Blessed [are] those who have been persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

5:11  "Blessed are you whenever they revile you, and they persecute you, and they say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.

11  Blessed are ye when [men] shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

5:12  Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

12  be glad and exult, for your reward in heaven is plentiful. For so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

12  Then be glad and rejoice, for your reward is increased in heaven; for in this very manner they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

5:13  "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt becomes tasteless, with what shall it be salted? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and to be trampled underfoot by men.

13  You are indeed the salt of the earth; but if the salt should lose its savor, with what could it be salted? It would not be worth anything, but to be thrown outside and to be trodden down by men.

13  Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

5:14  You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

14  You are indeed the light of the world; a city that is built upon a mountain cannot be hidden.

5:15  Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it shines on everything in the house.

15  Neither do [men] light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the house.

15  And they do not light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, so that it may shine to all who are in the house.

5:16  Thus let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works, and they may glorify your Father who is in heaven.

16  Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

16  So then, let your light shine in the sight of men, so that they may see your good works, and may glorify your Father, who is in heaven.

5:17  "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill.

17  Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfil.

17  Do not expect that I have come to weaken the law or the prophets; I have not come to weaken, but to fulfil.

5:18  For assuredly I say to you, until heaven and earth may pass away, one iota or one tittle shall by no means pass away from the law until all things are fulfilled.

18  For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law, till all things be accomplished.

18  Amen I say to you, certainly, until heaven and earth pass away, not one iota, not one dot shall pass away from the law, until all is done.

5:19  Whoever therefore shall break one of the least of these commandments, and shall teach men thus, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does [them] and teaches [them], he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

5:20  For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

5:21  "You have heard that it was said to the ancients, 'You shall not kill,' and whoever kills will be liable to the judgment.

21  Ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment

21  You have heard that it was said to those who were before you, You shall not kill, and whoever kills is guilty before the court.

5:22  But I say to you that whoever gets angry with his brother without cause will be liable to the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, 'Empty-head!' will be liable to the council. But whoever says, ' fool!' will be liable to the fiery hell.

22  but I say unto you, that every one who is angry with his brother shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council; and whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of the hell of fire.

22  But I say to you, that whoever becomes angry with his brother for no reason, is guilty before the court: and whoever should say to his brother, Raca (which means, I spit on you) is guilty before the congregation; and whoever says to his brother, you are a nurse maid, is condemned to hell fire.

5:23  Therefore if you offer your gift on the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you,

23  If therefore thou art offering thy gift at the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee,

23  If it should happen therefore that while you are presenting your offering upon the altar, and right there you remember that your brother has any grievance against you,

5:24  leave your gift there before the altar, and go, first be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

5:25  Make friends with your adversary quickly, while you are on the road with him, lest your adversary hand you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be cast into prison.

25  Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art with him in the way; lest haply the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

25  Try to get reconciled with your accuser promptly, while you are going on the road with him; for your accuser might surrender you to the judge, and the judge would commit you to the jailer, and you will be cast into prison.

5:26  Assuredly I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny.

26  Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou have paid the last farthing.

5:27  "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.'

27  Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt not commit adultery

5:28  But I say to you, that whoever looks at a woman in order to lust after her has already committed adultery [with] her in his heart.

5:29  If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is better for you that one of your members be lost, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

29  And if thy right eye causeth thee to stumble, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell.

29  And if your right eye causes you to sin, root it out and cast it away from you. For it is better for you that one of your members perish, than that your whole body be cast into Hell.

5:30  And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is better for you that one of your members be lost, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

30  And if thy right hand causeth thee to stumble, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body go into hell.

5:31  "Furthermore it has been said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a divorce certificate.'

31  It was said also, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement

5:32  "But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for a matter of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorcee commits adultery.

32  but I say unto you, that every one that putteth away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, maketh her an adulteress: and whosoever shall marry her when she is put away committeth adultery.

32  But I say to you, that anyone who will have dismissed his wife, except in the case of fornication, causes her to commit adultery; and whoever will have married her who has been dismissed commits adultery.

5:33  "Again you have heard that it was said to the ancients, 'You shall not swear falsely, but you shall pay your oaths to YHWH.'

33  Again, ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths

33  Again you have heard it was said to them who were before you, that you shall not lie in your oaths, but entrust your oaths to the Lord.

5:34  "But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God's throne;

34  but I say unto you, swear not at all; neither by the heaven, for it is the throne of God;

34  But I say to you, never swear; neither by heaven, because it is GodÆs throne;

5:35  nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.

5:36  Nor shall you swear by your head, because you are not able to make one hair white or black.

36  Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, for thou canst not make one hair white or black.

36  Neither shall you swear an oath by your own head, because you are not able to cause one hair to become white or black.

5:37  But let your word be 'Yes', 'yes,'; [or ]'No,' 'no.' For whatever is more than these is from the evil [one].

37  But let your word ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ For anything beyond that is of evil.

5:38  "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.'

38  Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth

5:39  But I say to you not to resist an evil person. But whoever shall slap you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.

39  but I say unto you, resist not him that is evil: but whosoever smiteth thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

5:40  And to the [one] desiring to sue you and to take your tunic, let him have your cloak also.

40  And if any man would go to law with thee, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.

40  And if anyone wishes to sue you at the court and take away your shirt, let him have your robe also.

5:41  And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.

41  And whoever will have compelled you for one thousand steps, go with him even for two thousand steps.

5:42  Give to the [one] asking you, and to the [one] desiring to borrow from you, do not turn away.

42  Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

42  Whoever asks of you, give to him. And if anyone would borrow from you, do not turn away from him.

5:43  "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor, and you shall hate your enemy.'

43  Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy

43  You have heard that it is said, Be kind to your friend, and hate your enemy.

5:44  But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,

44  but I say unto you, love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you;

44  But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

5:45  so that you may prove to be sons of your Father in heaven; because He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and He sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

45  that ye may be sons of your Father who is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust.

45  In this way, you shall be sons of your Father, who is in heaven. He causes his sun to rise upon the good and the bad, and he causes it to rain upon the just and the unjust.

5:46  For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?

46  For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

5:47  And if you greet your friends only, what more are you doing [than others]? Do not even the tax collectors do so?

5:48  You therefore be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

48  Therefore, be perfect, even as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

48  Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

6:1  "Take care not to be doing your charitable giving before men, so as to be seen by them. Otherwise, you have not a reward from your Father in heaven.

1  Take heed that ye do not your righteousness before men, to be seen of them: else ye have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.

1  BE careful concerning your alms, not to do them in the presence of men, merely that they may see them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father in heaven.

6:2  Whenever therefore you do charitable giving, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by men. Assuredly I say to you, they receive their reward in full.

2  When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward.

2  Therefore, when you give alms, do not choose to sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the towns, so that they may be honored by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.

6:3  But when you do charitable giving, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

3  But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth

6:4  so that your charitable giving may be in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will Himself reward you openly.

4  that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.

6:5  "And whenever you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues, and on the streetcorners, so that they may be seen by men. Assuredly I say to you, that they receive their reward in full.

5  And when you pray, you should not be like the hypocrites, who love standing in the synagogues and at the corners of the streets to pray, so that they may be seen by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.

6:6  But you, whenever you pray, enter into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you openly.

6  But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret shall recompense thee.

6  But you, when you pray, enter into your room, and having shut the door, pray to your Father in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.

6:7  But when you pray, do not babble like the heathen, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.

7  And in praying use not vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

7  And when praying, do not choose many words, as the pagans do. For they think that by their excess of words they might be heeded.

6:8  Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows what things[ ]you have need of before you ask Him.

8  Be not therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

6:9  Therefore pray in this manner: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.

9  After this manner therefore pray ye. Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

9  Therefore, you shall pray in this way: Our Father, who is in heaven: May your name be kept holy.

6:10  Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as [it is ]in heaven.

10  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so on earth.

10  May your kingdom come. May your will be done, as in heaven, so also on earth.

6:11  Give us this day our daily bread.

11  Give us bread for our needs from day to day.

6:12  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

6:13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil [one]. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

6:14  "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

14  For if you will forgive men their sins, your heavenly Father also will forgive you your offenses.

6:15  But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

15  But if you will not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your sins.

6:16  "Moreover, when you fast, do not become gloomy, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men [to be] fasting. Assuredly I say to you, that they receive their reward in full.

6:17  But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,

17  But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face;

6:18  so that you do not appear to men [to be] fasting, but to your Father in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.

18  that thou be not seen of men to fast, but of thy Father who is in secret: and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall recompense thee.

18  That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

6:19  "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on the earth, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves dig through and steal;

19  Do not choose to store up for yourselves treasures on earth: where rust and moth consume, and where thieves break in and steal.

6:20  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupts, and where thieves do not dig through and steal.

20  Instead, store up for yourselves treasures in heaven: where neither rust nor moth consumes, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

6:21  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

6:22  "The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light.

22  The lamp of your body is your eye. If your eye is wholesome, your entire body will be filled with light.

22  The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

6:23  But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be dark. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

6:24  "No one is able to serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and he will love the other, or else he will be devoted to the one, and he will despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

24  No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

6:25  "Because of this I say to you, do not worry [about ]your life-what you shall eat, or what you shall drink-nor [about] your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food and the body [more than] clothing?

25  Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment?

6:26  Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap, nor do they gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth more than they?

6:27  Which of you by worrying is able to add one cubit to his stature?

27  And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto the measure of his life?

27  Who is among you who by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

6:28  So why do you worry about clothes? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither labor, nor spin;

28  And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin

6:29  and yet I say to you, that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed like one of these.

6:30  But if God thus clothes the grass of the field, which exists today, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, [will He] not much more [clothe] you, [O you] of little faith?

6:31  Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we put on?'

31  Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

31  Therefore, do not choose to be anxious, saying: ‘What shall we eat, and what shall we drink, and with what shall we be clothed?’

6:32  "For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

32  For worldly people seek after all these things. Your Father in heaven knows that all of these things are also necessary for you.

6:33  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

33  Therefore, seek first the kingdom of God and his justice, and all these things shall be added to you as well.

6:34  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own affairs. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

34  Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

34  Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

7:1  "Judge not, lest you be judged.

1  “Do not judge, so that you may not be judged.

7:2  For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with what measure you measure, it will be measured [back] to you.

2  For with whatever judgment you judge, so shall you be judged; and with whatever measure you measure out, so shall it be measured back to you.

7:3  And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not notice the plank in your own eye?

3  And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother`s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

7:4  Or how will you say to your brother, 'Permit me to remove the speck from your eye'; and look, [there is] a plank in your own eye?

4  Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me cast out the mote out of thine eye; and lo, the beam is in thine own eye?

4  Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the splinter from your eye,’ while, behold, a board is in your own eye?

7:5  Hypocrite! First remove the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother's eye.

5  Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother`s eye.

5  O hypocrites, first take out the beam from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to get out the splinter from your brotherÆs eye.

7:6  Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

6  Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast your pearls before the swine, lest haply they trample them under their feet, and turn and rend you.

6  Do not give holy things to the dogs; and do not throw your pearls before the swine, for they might tread them with their feet, and then turn and rend you.

7:7  "Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.

7:8  For everyone that asks receives, and he that seeks finds, and to him that knocks, it shall be opened.

8  For whoever asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, the door is opened.

7:9  Or what man is there among you who, if his son should ask for bread, will give to him a stone?

7:10  And if he should ask for a fish, he will give to him a serpent?

10  or if he shall ask for a fish, will give him a serpent?

10  or if he were to ask him for a fish, would offer him a snake?

7:11  If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, by how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

7:12  Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, thus also you do to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

12  All things therefore whatsoever ye would that men should do unto you, even so do ye also unto them: for this is the law and the prophets.

12  Whatever you wish men to do for you, do likewise also for them; for this is the law and the prophets.

7:13  "Enter in through the narrow gate; because wide is the gate, and broad is the way which leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in through it.

7:14  How narrow the gate, and confined the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it!

14  O how narrow is the door, and how difficult is the road which carries to life, and few are those who are found on it.

7:15  "But beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

15  Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep`s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves.

15  Be careful of false prophets who come to you in lambÆs clothing, but within they are ravening wolves.

7:16  You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grape clusters from thorns, or figs from thistles?

16  By their fruits ye shall know them. Do [men] gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

7:17  Thus every good tree produces good fruit, but a rotten tree produces evil fruit.

17  Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but the corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

17  So every good tree bears good fruits; but a bad tree bears bad fruits.

7:18  A good tree cannot produce evil fruit, nor can a rotten tree produce good fruit.

18  A good tree is not able to produce evil fruit, and an evil tree is not able to produce good fruit.

7:19  Every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.

19  Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

19  Any tree which does not bear good fruits will be cut down and cast into the fire.

7:20  Consequently, by their fruits you shall know them.

20  Therefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

7:21  "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.

21  Not all who say to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven. But whoever does the will of my Father, who is in heaven, the same shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.

21  Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

7:22  Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name we cast out demons, and in Your name we did many mighty works?'

7:23  "And then I will confess to them, 'I never knew you! Depart from Me, you who work iniquity!'

23  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

23  Then I will declare to them, I have never known you; keep away from me, O you that work iniquity.

7:24  "Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them, I will compare him to a wise man who built his house upon the rock

24  Every one therefore that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, shall be likened unto a wise man, who built his house upon the rock

24  Therefore whoever hears these words of mine, and does them, he is like a wise man, who built his house upon a rock.

7:25  and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and fell against that house; and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock.

7:26  And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them, will be compared to a foolish man who built his house on the sand

26  And every one that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand

26  And whoever hears these words of mine, and does them not, is like a foolish man, who built his house upon sand.

7:27  and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And its fall was great."

27  And the rains descended, and the floods rose up, and the winds blew, and rushed upon that house, and it did fall, and great was its ruin.”

7:28  And so it was, when Jesus finished these words, the crowds were astonished at His teaching,

7:29  for He taught them as one having authority, and not like the scribes.

29  For he was teaching them as one who has authority, and not like their scribes and Pharisees.

8:1  When He had come down from the mountain, great crowds followed Him.

8:2  And behold, a leper came and worshipped Him, saying, "Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean."

2  And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

8:3  And reaching out His hand, Jesus touched him, saying, "I am willing; be cleansed."Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

3  And he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou made clean. And straightway his leprosy was cleansed.

8:4  And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

4  Jesus then said to him, Look here, why are you telling it to men? go first and show yourself to the priests, and offer an offering as Moses has commanded, for a testimonial to them.

8:5  Now when He had entered Capernaum, a centurion approached Him, begging Him,

5  And when he was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,

5  When Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him, and appealed to him,

8:6  and saying, "Lord, my servant has been laid up in the house a paralytic, being tormented terribly."

6  Saying, My Lord, my boy is lying in the house, paralyzed, and suffering greatly.

8:7  And Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him."

8:8  The centurion answered and said, "Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But just say the word and my servant will be healed.

8  And the centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed.

8:9  For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this [one], 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."

9  For I, too, am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

9  For I am also a man in government service, and there are soldiers under my command; and I say to this one, Go, and he goes; and to the other, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it.

8:10  When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who were following, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!

10  And, hearing this, Jesus wondered. And he said to those following him: “Amen I say to you, I have not found so great a faith in Israel.

10  When Jesus heard it, he was amazed, and he said to those who accompanied him, Truly I say to you, that not even in Israel have I found such faith as this.

8:11  And I say to you that many shall come from east and west, and recline [to eat] with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven;

11  For I say to you, that many shall come from the east and the west, and they shall sit at table with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

8:12  but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

8:13  Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go; and as you believed, may it be unto you."And his servant was healed that same hour.

13  And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; as thou hast believed, [so] be it done unto thee. And the servant was healed in that hour.

13  So Jesus said to the centurion, Go, let it be done to you according to your belief. And his boy was healed in that very hour.

8:14  Now when Jesus had come into Peter's house, He saw his wife's mother having been laid up, and burning with fever.

14  And when Jesus had arrived at the house of Peter, he saw his mother-in-law lying ill with a fever.

14  And Jesus came to the SimonÆs house, and he saw his mother-in-law laid up and sick with fever.

8:15  And He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she got up, and began to serve Him.

8:16  When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and He healed all that were ill,

16  And when even was come, they brought unto him many possessed with demons: and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all that were sick

16  Now when evening came, they brought to him a great many lunatics, and he cured them just by a word; and he healed all who were badly afflicted.

8:17  so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying: "He Himself took our infirmities, and bore our diseases."

17  in order to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah, saying, “He took our infirmities, and he carried away our diseases.”

8:18  And when Jesus saw great crowds around Him, He gave orders to depart to the other side.

18  Then Jesus, seeing the great crowds encircling him, gave orders to go across the sea.

18  When Jesus saw large crowds surrounding him, he gave orders to go to the crossing place.

8:19  Then a certain scribe approached, and said to Him, "Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go."

19  And there came a scribe, and said unto him, Teacher, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.

19  And one scribe, approaching, said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you will go.”

8:20  And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have dens, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."

20  And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven [have] nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

20  Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes, and the fowls of the sky a sheltering place, but the Son of man has no place even to lay his head.

8:21  Then another of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father."

21  And another of the disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.

8:22  But Jesus said to him, "Follow Me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead."

8:23  Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him.

23  And when he was entered into a boat, his disciples followed him.

23  And climbing into a boat, his disciples followed him.

8:24  And behold, a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered by waves; but He was sleeping.

24  And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.

8:25  Then the disciples came and awoke Him, saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing!"

25  And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Save, Lord; we perish.

25  And his disciples drew near to him, and they awakened him, saying: “Lord, save us, we are perishing.”

8:26  But He said to them, "Why are you fearful, O [you] of little faith?"Then having risen, He rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.

26  And Jesus said to them, “Why are you afraid, O little in faith?” Then rising up, he commanded the winds, and the sea. And a great tranquility occurred.

8:27  So the men marveled, saying, "What kind [of Man] is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?"

27  Moreover, the men wondered, saying: “What kind of man is this? For even the winds and the sea obey him.”

27  But the men were surprised, saying, Who is this man, that even the winds and the sea obey him?

8:28  And when He came to the other side, to the region of the Gergesenes, [there] met Him two demon-possessed [men], coming out of the tombs; exceedingly violent, so that no one was able to pass by that way.

8:29  And suddenly they cried out, saying, "What have we to do with You, Jesus, Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?"

29  And behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

8:30  Now there was far off from them a herd of many swine feeding.

30  And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding.

8:31  So the demons implored Him, saying, "If You cast us out, permit us to go off into the herd of swine."

31  And the demons besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, send us away into the herd of swine.

8:32  And He said to them, "Go."So they came out, and went off into the herd of swine. And behold, the whole herd of swine rushed violently down the steep bank into the sea, and died in the waters.

32  And he said unto them, Go. And they came out, and went into the swine: and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep into the sea, and perished in the waters.

32  Jesus said to them, Go. And immediately they left and attacked the swine, and the whole herd went straight over the cliff, and fell into the sea, and were drowned in the water.

8:33  Then those who tended them fled; and going off into the city, they reported everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed [men].

33  And they that fed them fled, and went away into the city, and told everything, and what was befallen to them that were possessed with demons.

33  Then the shepherds fled, and arriving in the city, they reported on all this, and on those who had had the demons.

8:34  And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus. And seeing Him, they implored Him that He might go away from their region.

34  So all the city went out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him, they urged him to depart from their borders.

34  And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts.

9:1  And getting into the boat, He crossed over and went into His own city.

1  And climbing into a boat, he crossed the sea, and he arrived at his own city.

9:2  And behold, they were carrying a paralytic to Him lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Have courage, child; your sins are forgiven you."

2  And behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, be of good cheer; thy sins are forgiven.

2  And they brought to him a paralytic, lying on a quilt-bed; and Jesus saw their faith, and he said to the paralytic, Have courage, my son; your sins have been forgiven.

9:3  And at once some of the scribes said among themselves, "This Man blasphemes!"

9:4  But Jesus, perceiving their thoughts, said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts?

9:5  For which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Arise and walk'?

5  Which is easier to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise up and walk?’

5  For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?

9:6  But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on the earth to forgive sins"-then He said to the paralytic, "Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house."

6  But that ye may know that the Son of man hath authority on earth to forgive sins (then saith he to the sick of the palsy), Arise, and take up thy bed, and go up unto thy house.

9:7  And having arisen, he went off to his house.

7  And he arose, and departed to his house.

9:8  Now when the crowds saw, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.

8  Then the crowd, seeing this, was frightened, and they glorified God, who gave such power to men.

9:9  And as Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, "Follow Me."And arising, he followed Him.

9  And as Jesus passed from that place, he saw a man whose name was Matthew, sitting in the custom house, and he said to him, Follow me; and he got up and went after him.

9:10  Now it came to pass, as He reclined [to eat] in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners, having come, were reclining [to eat] with Jesus and His disciples.

10  And it came to pass, as he sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples.

9:11  And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, "Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"

9:12  When Jesus heard that, He said to them, "Those who are healthy have no need of a physician, but those who are ill.

12  But when he heard it, he said, They that are whole have no need of a physician, but they that are sick.

12  But Jesus, hearing this, said: “It is not those who are healthy who are in need of a physician, but those who have maladies.

9:13  But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice.' For I did not come to call [the ]righteous, but sinners, to repentance."

13  Go and learn what this means, I want mercy and not sacrifice; for I came not to invite righteous men, but sinners.

9:14  Then the disciples of John approached Him, saying, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?"

14  Then come to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?

9:15  And Jesus said to them, "Can the groomsmen mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

15  Jesus said to them, Is it possible for those at the wedding feast to fast as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days are coming, when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast.

9:16  No one puts on a patch of a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for it takes away its completeness from the garment, and the tear is made worse.

16  No man puts a new patch on an old garment, so as not to weaken that garment, and make the hole larger.

9:17  Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins burst, and the wine spills out, and the wineskins will be ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved."

17  Neither do they pour new wine into worn out skins, so as not to rend the skins, and spill the wine, and the wine runs out, and the skins are ruined; but they pour new wine into new skins, and both of them are well preserved.

17  Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

9:18  As He spoke these things to them, behold, a certain leader came and worshipped Him, saying, "My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her, and she shall live."

18  While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

18  As he was speaking these things to them, behold, a certain ruler approached and adored him, saying: “Lord, my daughter has recently passed away. But come and impose your hand upon her, and she will live.”

9:19  So Jesus arose and followed him, likewise His disciples.

19  And Jesus, rising up, followed him, with his disciples.

9:20  And behold, a woman hemorrhaging for twelve years, approaching from behind, touched the hem of His garment.

20  And behold a woman who had had the hemorrhage for twelve years, came up from behind him, and she touched the edge of his cloak;

20  And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment

9:21  For she said to herself, "If only I may touch His garment, I will be healed."

9:22  But Jesus, turning around and seeing her, said, "Take courage, daughter; your faith has healed you."And the woman was healed from that hour.

22  But Jesus turning and seeing her said, Daughter, be of good cheer; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

22  And Jesus turned around and saw her and said to her, Have courage, my daughter, your faith has healed you; and the woman was healed in that very hour.

9:23  And when Jesus came into the house of the leader, and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion,

23  And when Jesus had arrived in the house of the ruler, and he had seen the musicians and the tumultuous crowd,

23  So Jesus arrived at the house of the synagogue leader, and saw the singers and the excited crowds.

9:24  He said to them, "Make room, for the girl has not died, but she is sleeping."And they were ridiculing Him.

24  he said, “Depart. For the girl is not dead, but asleep.” And they derided him.

24  And he said to them, That is enough; for the little girl is not dead, but she is asleep; and they laughed at him.

9:25  But when the crowd had been put out, He went in and grasped her hand, and the little girl arose.

25  And when the crowd had been sent away, he entered. And he took her by the hand. And the girl rose up.

25  But when he had put the people out, he went in and held her by her hand, and the little girl got up.

9:26  And the report of this went out into that whole land.

26  And this news spread all over that country.

26  And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.

9:27  And as Jesus passed by from there, two blind [men] followed Him, crying out and saying, "Son of David, have pity on us!"

27  And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.

9:28  And when He came into the house, the blind [men] approached Him, and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?"They said to Him, "Yes, Lord."

28  And when he had arrived at the house, the blind men approached him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you trust that I am able to do this for you?” They say to him, “Certainly, Lord.”

9:29  Then He touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith, let it be unto you."

9:30  And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, "See [that you] let no one know."

30  And immediately their eyes were opened; and Jesus charged them and said, See that no one knows it.

9:31  But they, having gone out, spread the news about Him in that whole land.

31  But they went forth, and spread abroad his fame in all that land.

9:32  And as they were going out, behold, they brought to Him a mute man, being demon-possessed.

32  Then, when they had departed, behold, they brought him a man who was mute, having a demon.

32  And when Jesus went out, they brought to him a dumb man who was demented.

9:33  And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, "It was never seen like this in Israel!"

33  And as soon as he was restored, the dumb man spoke, and the people were amazed and said, Such a thing has never been seen in Israel.

9:34  But the Pharisees said, "By the ruler of the demons He casts out demons."

9:35  And Jesus was going about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every illness and every disease among the people.

35  And Jesus traveled throughout all of the cities and towns, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the kingdom, and healing every illness and every infirmity.

9:36  But seeing the crowds, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were harassed and prostrated, like sheep having no shepherd.

36  Then, seeing the multitudes, he had compassion on them, because they were distressed and were reclining, like sheep without a shepherd.

9:37  Then He said to His disciples, "Indeed the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.

37  Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest indeed is plenteous, but the laborers are few.

37  So he said to his disciples, The harvest is great, and the laborers are few;

9:38  Therefore pray to YHWH of the harvest, that He may send forth workers into His harvest."

10:1  And summoning His twelve disciples, He gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every illness.

10:3  Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the [son] of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, who was surnamed Thaddaeus;

3  Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the [son] of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;

3  James of Zebedee, and John his brother, Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector, and James of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus,

10:4  Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him.

10:5  These twelve Jesus sent forth, commanding them, saying, "Do not go in the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter [any] city of the Samaritans.

5  Jesus sent these twelve, instructing them, saying: “Do not travel by the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter into the city of the Samaritans,

5  These twelve Jesus sent out, and charged them and said, Keep away from pagan practices, and do not enter a Samaritan city;

10:6  But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

6  but instead go to the sheep who have fallen away from the house of Israel.

10:7  And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'

7  And going forth, preach, saying: ‘For the kingdom of heaven has drawn near.’

10:8  "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

8  Cure the infirm, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You have received freely, so give freely.

10:9  Do not acquire gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts,

9  Get you no gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses;

9  Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,

10:10  not a knapsack for the road, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; for a worker is worthy of his food.

10  no wallet for [your] journey, neither two coats, nor shoes, nor staff: for the laborer is worthy of his food.

10:11  And whatever city or village you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there until you go out.

10:12  And as you enter into a household, greet it.

12  Then, when you enter into the house, greet it, saying, ‘Peace to this house.’

12  And when you enter into the house, salute the family.

10:13  And if indeed the house should be worthy, let your peace come upon it. But if it should not be worthy, let your peace return to you.

13  And if the family is trustworthy, your salutation of peace shall come upon it; but if it is not trustworthy, your salutation shall return to you.

10:14  And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet.

14  And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, as ye go forth out of that house or that city, shake off the dust of your feet.

14  Whoever will not welcome you, and will not listen to your words, when you leave the house or the village, shake off the sand from your feet.

10:15  Assuredly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!

15  Truly I say to you, that it will be easier for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that city.

10:16  "Behold, I am sending you forth like sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be as wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

16  Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

16  Behold, I am sending you like lambs among the wolves; therefore be wise as serpents, and pure as doves.

10:17  But beware of men, for they will hand you over to councils and they will flog you in their synagogues.

17  But be careful of men; for they will deliver you up to the courts, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

10:18  And you will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the nations.

18  yea and before governors and kings shall ye be brought for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.

10:19  But whenever they hand you over, do not worry how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak;

19  But when they deliver you up, be not anxious how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that hour what ye shall speak.

19  But when they hand you over, do not choose to think about how or what to speak. For what to speak shall be given to you in that hour.

10:20  for you are not the [ones] speaking, but the Spirit of your Father who is speaking in you.

20  For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father that speaketh in you.

20  For it is not you who will be speaking, but the Spirit of your Father, who will speak in you.

10:21  Now brother will hand over brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents, and put them to death.

21  And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and the father his child: and children shall rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.

10:22  And you will be hated by all [people ]for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

22  And ye shall be hated of all men for my name`s sake: but he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.

10:23  But whenever they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly I say to you, by no means will you have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

10:24  A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.

24  The disciple is not above the teacher, nor is the servant above his master.

24  No disciple is more important than his teacher, and no servant than his master.

10:25  It is enough for a disciple that he become like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call his household members!

25  It is sufficient for the disciple that he be like his teacher, and the servant, like his master. If they have called the Father of the family, ‘Beelzebub,’ how much more those of his household?

10:26  Therefore do not fear them. For nothing is concealed that shall not be unveiled, and secret that shall not be made known.

26  Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

10:27  "What I say to you in the dark, say in the light; and what you hear in the ear, proclaim on the housetops.

27  What I tell you in the darkness, speak ye in the light; and what ye hear in the ear, proclaim upon the house-tops.

10:28  And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both the soul and the body in hell.

28  Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but who cannot kill the soul; but above all, be afraid of him who can destroy both the soul and the body in hell.

10:29  Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them shall fall on the ground apart from the [will] of your Father.

10:30  But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

30  For even the hairs of your head have all been numbered.

30  But so far as you are concerned, even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

10:31  Therefore do not fear; you are worth more than many sparrows.

31  Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

10:32  "Therefore whoever who will confess Me before men, I also will confess Him before My Father who is in heaven.

32  Therefore, everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father, who is in heaven.

10:33  But whoever denies Me before men, I also will deny him before My Father who is in heaven.

10:34  "Do not suppose that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

34  Think not that I came to send peace on the earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

10:35  For I have come to 'turn a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law';

35  For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

10:36  and 'a man's enemies [will be] his own household members.'

36  and a man`s foes [shall be] they of his own household.

36  And the enemies of a man will be those of his own household.

10:37  He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

10:38  And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

10:39  He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.

10:40  "He that receives you receives Me, and he that receives Me receives Him who sent Me.

40  Whoever receives you, receives me. And whoever receives me, receives him who sent me.

10:41  He that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward. And he that receives a righteous [man] in the name of a righteous [man] shall receive a righteous [man's] reward.

41  He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive a prophetÆs reward; and whoever receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man, shall receive a righteous manÆs reward.

10:42  And whoever gives one of these little [ones] only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward."

42  And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only, in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you he shall in no wise lose his reward.

42  Anyone who gives a drink to one of these little ones, if only a cup of cold water, in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, he shall never lose his reward.

11:1  Now it came to pass, when Jesus finished directing His twelve disciples, that He moved on from there to teach and to preach in their cities.

1  And it happened that, when Jesus had completed instructing his twelve disciples, he went away from there in order to teach and to preach in their cities.

1  WHEN Jesus had finished commanding his twelve disciples, he departed from that place to teach and to preach in their cities.

11:2  And when John had heard in prison about the works of the Messiah, having sent two of his disciples,

2  But when John heard in prison of the works of Christ, he sent by his disciples,

11:3  he said to Him, "Are You the Coming One, or do we look for a different [one]?"

3  and said unto him, Art thou he that cometh, or look we for another?

3  “Are you he who is to come, or should we expect another?”

11:4  Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and report to John the things which you hear and see

4  And Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and tell John the things which ye hear and see

4  And Jesus, responding, said to them: “Go and report to John what you have heard and seen.

11:5  The blind receive sight, and the lame[ ]walk; the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf[ ]hear; the dead[ ]are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

5  The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the poor are evangelized.

11:6  And blessed is the [one] who is not offended because of Me."

11:7  Now as these men were going, Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

7  Then, after they departed, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

11:8  But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft garments are in kings' houses.

8  But what went ye out to see? a man clothed in soft [raiment]? Behold, they that wear soft [raiment] are in king`s houses.

8  If not so, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Behold those who wear fine clothes are in kingsÆ houses.

11:9  But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and far more [than] a prophet.

9  And if not so, What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet.

11:10  For this is he about whom it is written: 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.'

10  This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee.

11:11  "Assuredly I say to you, among [those] born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

11  Truly I say to you, that among those who are born of women, there has never risen one who is greater than John the Baptist; and yet even the least person in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

11:12  And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men seize it.

12  But from the days of John the Baptist, even until now, the kingdom of heaven has endured violence, and the violent carry it away.

12  From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been administered by force, and only those in power control it.

11:13  For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

11:14  And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah, the [one] who is about to come.

14  And if you wish, accept it, that he is Elijah who was to come.

14  And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

11:15  He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

15  He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

11:16  But to what shall I compare this generation? It is similar to children who sit in the marketplaces and call to their playmates,

16  But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the marketplaces, who call unto their fellows

16  But to whom shall I liken this generation? It is like boys who sit in the street and call to their friends.

11:17  and say, 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; We mourned to you, and you did not lament.'

17  who, calling out to their companions, say: ‘We played music for you, and you did not dance. We lamented, and you did not mourn.’

11:18  "For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.'

11:19  "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' And so wisdom is justified by her children."

19  The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they said, Behold, a glutton and a wine-bibber, and a friend of publicans and sinners. And yet wisdom is justified by its works.

11:20  Then He began to reproach the cities in which His very many miracles had been done, because they did not repent

20  Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not.

20  Then Jesus began to reproach the cities in which his many works were done, and which did not repent. And he said,

11:21  "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! Because if the miracles which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

21  Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

11:22  Nevertheless I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you.

22  Yet truly, I say to you, Tyre and Sidon shall be forgiven more than you, on the day of judgment.

22  But I say to you, It will be easier for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment, than for you.

11:23  And you, Capernaum, the [one] having been exalted to heaven, you will be brought down to Hades; because if the miracles which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.

23  And thou, Capernaum, shalt thou be exalted unto heaven? thou shalt go down unto Hades: for if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in thee, it would have remained until this day.

23  And you, Capernaum, would you be exalted all the way to heaven? You shall descend all the way to Hell. For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Sodom, perhaps it would have remained, even to this day.

11:24  But I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you."

24  Yet truly, I say to you, that the land of Sodom shall be forgiven more than you, on the day of judgment.”

11:25  At that time Jesus answered and said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them to babes.

25  At that season Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes

11:26  Yes, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.

26  yea, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight.

26  O yes, my Father, for such was your will.

11:27  All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one fully knows the Son except the Father, nor does anyone fully know the Father except the Son, and [the one] to whom the Son wills to reveal [Him].

27  Everything has been delivered to me by my Father, and no man knows the Son except the Father, nor does any man know the Father but the Son, and he to whomever the Son wishes to reveal.

27  All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

11:28  Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.

28  Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

11:29  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

11:30  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

12:1  At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. And His disciples became hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat.

12:2  But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, "Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!"

2  But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to do upon the sabbath.

2  Then the Pharisees, seeing this, said to him, “Behold, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbaths.”

12:3  But He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and those who were with him

12:4  how they entered the house of God, and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, except only for the priests?

4  How he entered into the house of God, and did eat bread that was on the table of the Lord, that which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?

12:5  Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are guiltless?

12:6  Yet I say to you that [One] greater[ than] the temple is here.

6  But I say to you, that something greater than the temple is here.

12:7  But if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless.

7  And if you knew what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would never have condemned the innocent.

12:8  For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."

12:9  And having departed from there, He went into their synagogue.

9  And when he had passed from there, he went into their synagogues.

9  And Jesus departed from thence and came to their synagogue.

12:10  And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?"-that they might accuse Him.

12:11  Then He said to them, "What man is there among you who shall have one sheep, and if it should fall into a ditch on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out?

12:12  How much more valuable then is a man than a sheep! So then it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath."

12:13  Then He said to the man, "Stretch out your hand."And he stretched it out, and it was restored whole like the other.

13  Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, as the other.

12:14  But the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.

14  Then the Pharisees, departing, took council against him, as to how they might destroy him.

14  And the Pharisees went out, and they took counsel concerning him, so as to do away with him.

12:15  But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew from there. And great crowds followed Him, and He healed them all.

15  And Jesus perceiving [it] withdrew from thence: and many followed him; and he healed them all,

15  But Jesus knew of it, and departed from thence; and a great many people followed him, and he healed them all.

12:16  And He warned them that they should not make Him known,

16  And he instructed them, lest they make him known.

16  And he charged them not to say where he was,

12:17  so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying,

17  Then what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah was fulfilled, saying

12:18  "Behold, My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased! I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He will announce justice to the Gentiles.

12:19  He will not quarrel nor cry out, nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.

19  He shall not strive, nor cry aloud; Neither shall any one hear his voice in the streets.

12:20  A bruised reed He shall not break, and a smoldering wick He shall not quench, till He bring forth justice to victory;

20  He shall not crush the bruised reed, and he shall not extinguish the smoking wick, until he sends forth judgment unto victory.

20  He will not break even a bruised reed, and he will not extinguish a flickering lamp, until he brings justice to victory;

12:21  And in His name [the] nations shall hope."

21  And the Gentiles shall hope in his name.”

12:22  Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the blind and mute [man] both spoke and saw.

22  Then was brought unto him one possessed with a demon, blind and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the dumb man spake and saw.

22  Then one who had a demon, who was blind and mute, was brought to him. And he cured him, so that he spoke and saw.

12:23  And all the crowds were amazed and said, "This is not the Son of David, [is it]?"

23  All the people were amazed and said, Perhaps this man is the son of David?

12:24  But the Pharisees, having heard, said, "This [Man] does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, ruler of the demons."

24  But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This man doth not cast out demons, but by Beelzebub the prince of the demons.

12:25  But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said to them: "Every kingdom being divided against itself is made desolate, and every city or house being divided against itself shall not stand.

25  And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand

12:26  And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?

12:27  And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast [them] out? Therefore they shall be your judges.

12:28  But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.

12:29  Or how is one able to enter a strong [man's] house to plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong [man]? And then he will plunder his household.

29  Or how can one enter into the house of the strong [man,] and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong [man]? and then he will spoil his house.

29  Or, how can a man enter into a strong manÆs house and plunder his goods, except he first bind the strong man, and then he plunders his house?

12:30  He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters.

30  He that is not with me is against me, and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.

12:31  "Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven unto men.

31  For this reason, I say to you: Every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.

31  Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

12:32  And whoever says a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age, or in the coming [one.]

12:33  "Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree rotten and its fruit rotten; for a tree is known by its fruit.

33  Either produce like a good tree with good fruits, or produce like a bad tree with bad fruits; for a tree is known by its fruits.

12:34  Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

34  Progeny of vipers, how are you able to speak good things while you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

34  O generation of scorpions, how can you speak good things when you are bad? For the mouth speaks from the fullness of the heart.

12:35  A good man out of his good treasure brings forth good things, and an evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil things.

12:36  But I say to you, that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.

36  And I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

36  For I say to you, that for every foolish word which men speak, they will have to answer for it on the day of judgment.

12:37  For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned."

37  For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

12:38  Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, "Teacher, we wish to see a sign from You."

38  Then certain of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying, Teacher, we would see a sign from thee.

38  Then some of the men of the scribes and Pharisees answered and said to him, Teacher, we would like to see a sign from you.

12:39  But He answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

12:40  For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

40  For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

12:41  The men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation and shall condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, a greater[ than] Jonah [is] here.

41  Even the men of Nineveh will rise up in judgment with this generation, and find it guilty; for they repented through the preaching of Jonah, and behold, a greater than Jonah is here.

12:42  The queen of the South shall rise up in the judgment with this generation and she shall condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, a greater[ than] Solomon [is] here.

12:43  "When an unclean spirit goes out from a man, he goes through waterless places, seeking rest, and does not find [any].

43  But the unclean spirit, when he is gone out of the man, passeth through waterless places, seeking rest, and findeth it not.

12:44  Then he says, 'I will return to my house from where I came out.' And when he comes, he finds it unoccupied, swept, and adorned.

44  Then he saith, I will return into my house whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

12:45  Then he goes and takes along with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and entering in they dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Thus it shall also be for this wicked generation."

45  Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man becometh worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this evil generation.

45  Then it goes away and brings with it seven other spirits worse than itself, and they enter and live in it; and the end of that man becomes worse than at first. Such will happen to this evil generation.

12:46  And while He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His mother and brothers stood outside, seeking to speak with Him.

46  While he was yet speaking to the multitudes, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, seeking to speak to him.

12:47  Then one said to Him, "Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You."

47  And one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, seeking to speak to thee.

47  And someone said to him: “Behold, your mother and your brothers are standing outside, seeking you.”

12:48  But He answered and said to him that told Him, "Who is My mother? And who are My brothers?"

48  But responding to the one speaking to him, he said, “Which one is my mother, and who are my brothers?”

12:49  And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Behold; My mother, and My brothers!

49  And extending his hand to his disciples, he said: “Behold: my mother and my brothers.

12:50  For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother."

50  For whosoever shall do the will of my Father who is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.
