Now it came to pass, when Jesus finished directing His twelve disciples, that He moved on from there to teach and to preach in their cities.

And it happened that, when Jesus had completed instructing his twelve disciples, he went away from there in order to teach and to preach in their cities.

And Jesus, responding, said to them: “Go and report to John what you have heard and seen.

The blind receive sight, and the lame[ ]walk; the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf[ ]hear; the dead[ ]are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the poor are evangelized.

Now as these men were going, Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

Then, after they departed, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft garments are in kings' houses.

But what went ye out to see? a man clothed in soft [raiment]? Behold, they that wear soft [raiment] are in king`s houses.

If not so, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Behold those who wear fine clothes are in kingsÆ houses.

But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and far more [than] a prophet.

11  "Assuredly I say to you, among [those] born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

12  And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men seize it.

12  But from the days of John the Baptist, even until now, the kingdom of heaven has endured violence, and the violent carry it away.

19  "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' And so wisdom is justified by her children."

19  The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they said, Behold, a glutton and a wine-bibber, and a friend of publicans and sinners. And yet wisdom is justified by its works.

20  Then He began to reproach the cities in which His very many miracles had been done, because they did not repent

20  Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not.

22  Nevertheless I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you.

22  Yet truly, I say to you, Tyre and Sidon shall be forgiven more than you, on the day of judgment.

23  And you, Capernaum, the [one] having been exalted to heaven, you will be brought down to Hades; because if the miracles which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.

23  And thou, Capernaum, shalt thou be exalted unto heaven? thou shalt go down unto Hades: for if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in thee, it would have remained until this day.

23  And you, Capernaum, would you be exalted all the way to heaven? You shall descend all the way to Hell. For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Sodom, perhaps it would have remained, even to this day.

12:1  At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. And His disciples became hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat.

12:2  But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, "Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!"

But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to do upon the sabbath.

Then the Pharisees, seeing this, said to him, “Behold, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbaths.”

12:3  But He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and those who were with him

12:4  how they entered the house of God, and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, except only for the priests?

How he entered into the house of God, and did eat bread that was on the table of the Lord, that which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?

12:5  Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are guiltless?

12:6  Yet I say to you that [One] greater[ than] the temple is here.

But I say to you, that something greater than the temple is here.

12:7  But if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless.

And if you knew what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would never have condemned the innocent.

12:9  And having departed from there, He went into their synagogue.

And when he had passed from there, he went into their synagogues.

And Jesus departed from thence and came to their synagogue.

12:10  And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?"-that they might accuse Him.

12:11  Then He said to them, "What man is there among you who shall have one sheep, and if it should fall into a ditch on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out?

12:12  How much more valuable then is a man than a sheep! So then it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath."

12:13  Then He said to the man, "Stretch out your hand."And he stretched it out, and it was restored whole like the other.

12:14  But the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.

14  Then the Pharisees, departing, took council against him, as to how they might destroy him.

12:15  But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew from there. And great crowds followed Him, and He healed them all.

12:16  And He warned them that they should not make Him known,

12:18  "Behold, My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased! I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He will announce justice to the Gentiles.

19  He shall not strive, nor cry aloud; Neither shall any one hear his voice in the streets.

12:20  A bruised reed He shall not break, and a smoldering wick He shall not quench, till He bring forth justice to victory;

20  He shall not crush the bruised reed, and he shall not extinguish the smoking wick, until he sends forth judgment unto victory.

12:22  Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the blind and mute [man] both spoke and saw.

22  Then one who had a demon, who was blind and mute, was brought to him. And he cured him, so that he spoke and saw.

12:23  And all the crowds were amazed and said, "This is not the Son of David, [is it]?"

12:24  But the Pharisees, having heard, said, "This [Man] does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, ruler of the demons."

24  But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This man doth not cast out demons, but by Beelzebub the prince of the demons.

12:25  But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said to them: "Every kingdom being divided against itself is made desolate, and every city or house being divided against itself shall not stand.

25  And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand

12:26  And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?

12:27  And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast [them] out? Therefore they shall be your judges.

12:28  But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.

12:29  Or how is one able to enter a strong [man's] house to plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong [man]? And then he will plunder his household.

12:31  "Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven unto men.

31  Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

12:32  And whoever says a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age, or in the coming [one.]

12:33  "Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree rotten and its fruit rotten; for a tree is known by its fruit.

33  Either produce like a good tree with good fruits, or produce like a bad tree with bad fruits; for a tree is known by its fruits.

12:34  Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

34  Progeny of vipers, how are you able to speak good things while you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

34  O generation of scorpions, how can you speak good things when you are bad? For the mouth speaks from the fullness of the heart.

12:35  A good man out of his good treasure brings forth good things, and an evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil things.

12:36  But I say to you, that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.

12:39  But He answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

12:40  For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

40  For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

12:41  The men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation and shall condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, a greater[ than] Jonah [is] here.

41  Even the men of Nineveh will rise up in judgment with this generation, and find it guilty; for they repented through the preaching of Jonah, and behold, a greater than Jonah is here.

12:42  The queen of the South shall rise up in the judgment with this generation and she shall condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, a greater[ than] Solomon [is] here.

12:43  "When an unclean spirit goes out from a man, he goes through waterless places, seeking rest, and does not find [any].

43  But the unclean spirit, when he is gone out of the man, passeth through waterless places, seeking rest, and findeth it not.

12:44  Then he says, 'I will return to my house from where I came out.' And when he comes, he finds it unoccupied, swept, and adorned.

44  Then he saith, I will return into my house whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

12:45  Then he goes and takes along with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and entering in they dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Thus it shall also be for this wicked generation."

45  Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man becometh worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this evil generation.

45  Then it goes away and brings with it seven other spirits worse than itself, and they enter and live in it; and the end of that man becomes worse than at first. Such will happen to this evil generation.

12:46  And while He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His mother and brothers stood outside, seeking to speak with Him.

12:49  And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Behold; My mother, and My brothers!

49  And extending his hand to his disciples, he said: “Behold: my mother and my brothers.

And many people gathered around him, so that he had to go up and sit in a boat, and all the people stood on the seashore.

13:3  And He spoke to them many things in parables, saying: "Behold, a sower went out to sow.

13:4  And as he sowed, some seed fell alongside the road; and the birds came and devoured them.

And while he was sowing, some fell beside the road, and the birds of the air came and ate it.

And when he had sown, some seed fell on the roadside, and the fowls came and ate it.

13:5  But others fell on the stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth.

Other fell upon the rock, where there was not sufficient soil; and it sprang up earlier because the ground was not deep enough;

13:12  For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he shall be in abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.

12  For to him who has, shall be given and it shall increase to him; but to him who has not, even that which he has shall be taken away from him.

13:13  Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.

13  This is the reason I speak to them in figures, because they see and yet cannot perceive; and they hear and yet do not listen, nor do they understand.

13:14  And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says: 'Hearing you shall hear and by no means understand, and seeing you shall see and by no means perceive.

14  And unto them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand; And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive

14  And so, in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, who said, ‘Hearing, you shall hear, but not understand; and seeing, you shall see, but not perceive.

13:15  For the heart of this people has become dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes have closed, lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn back, that I should heal them.'

15  For this people`s heart is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes they have closed; Lest haply they should perceive with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And should turn again, And I should heal them.

17  Amen I say to you, certainly, that many of the prophets and the just desired to see what you see, and yet they did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and yet they did not hear it.

13:18  "Therefore hear the parable of the sower

13:19  When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand, then the evil [one] comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the [seed] being sown beside the road.

19  When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, [then] cometh the evil [one], and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the way side.

19  With anyone who hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, evil comes and carries away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received the seed by the side of the road.

13:20  But the [seed] sown on stony ground, is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;

20  And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it;

13:21  yet he has no root in himself, but is short-lived. For when tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he falls away.

21  yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth.

21  But it has no root in him, except for a while; and when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately stumbles.
