1  Now it came to pass, when Jesus finished directing His twelve disciples, that He moved on from there to teach and to preach in their cities.

1  And it happened that, when Jesus had completed instructing his twelve disciples, he went away from there in order to teach and to preach in their cities.

1  WHEN Jesus had finished commanding his twelve disciples, he departed from that place to teach and to preach in their cities.

2  And when John had heard in prison about the works of the Messiah, having sent two of his disciples,

2  But when John heard in prison of the works of Christ, he sent by his disciples,

3  he said to Him, "Are You the Coming One, or do we look for a different [one]?"

3  and said unto him, Art thou he that cometh, or look we for another?

3  “Are you he who is to come, or should we expect another?”

4  Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and report to John the things which you hear and see

4  And Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and tell John the things which ye hear and see

4  And Jesus, responding, said to them: “Go and report to John what you have heard and seen.

5  The blind receive sight, and the lame[ ]walk; the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf[ ]hear; the dead[ ]are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

5  The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the poor are evangelized.

6  And blessed is the [one] who is not offended because of Me."

7  Now as these men were going, Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

7  Then, after they departed, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

8  But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft garments are in kings' houses.

8  But what went ye out to see? a man clothed in soft [raiment]? Behold, they that wear soft [raiment] are in king`s houses.

8  If not so, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Behold those who wear fine clothes are in kingsÆ houses.

9  But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and far more [than] a prophet.

9  And if not so, What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet.

10  For this is he about whom it is written: 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.'

10  This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee.

11  "Assuredly I say to you, among [those] born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

11  Truly I say to you, that among those who are born of women, there has never risen one who is greater than John the Baptist; and yet even the least person in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

12  And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men seize it.

12  But from the days of John the Baptist, even until now, the kingdom of heaven has endured violence, and the violent carry it away.

12  From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been administered by force, and only those in power control it.

13  For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

14  And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah, the [one] who is about to come.

14  And if you wish, accept it, that he is Elijah who was to come.

14  And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

15  He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

15  He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

16  But to what shall I compare this generation? It is similar to children who sit in the marketplaces and call to their playmates,

16  But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the marketplaces, who call unto their fellows

16  But to whom shall I liken this generation? It is like boys who sit in the street and call to their friends.

17  and say, 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; We mourned to you, and you did not lament.'

17  who, calling out to their companions, say: ‘We played music for you, and you did not dance. We lamented, and you did not mourn.’

18  "For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.'

19  "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' And so wisdom is justified by her children."

19  The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they said, Behold, a glutton and a wine-bibber, and a friend of publicans and sinners. And yet wisdom is justified by its works.

20  Then He began to reproach the cities in which His very many miracles had been done, because they did not repent

20  Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not.

20  Then Jesus began to reproach the cities in which his many works were done, and which did not repent. And he said,

21  "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! Because if the miracles which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

21  Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

22  Nevertheless I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you.

22  Yet truly, I say to you, Tyre and Sidon shall be forgiven more than you, on the day of judgment.

22  But I say to you, It will be easier for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment, than for you.

23  And you, Capernaum, the [one] having been exalted to heaven, you will be brought down to Hades; because if the miracles which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.

23  And thou, Capernaum, shalt thou be exalted unto heaven? thou shalt go down unto Hades: for if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in thee, it would have remained until this day.

23  And you, Capernaum, would you be exalted all the way to heaven? You shall descend all the way to Hell. For if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Sodom, perhaps it would have remained, even to this day.

24  But I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you."

24  Yet truly, I say to you, that the land of Sodom shall be forgiven more than you, on the day of judgment.”

25  At that time Jesus answered and said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them to babes.

25  At that season Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes

26  Yes, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.

26  yea, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight.

26  O yes, my Father, for such was your will.

27  All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one fully knows the Son except the Father, nor does anyone fully know the Father except the Son, and [the one] to whom the Son wills to reveal [Him].

27  Everything has been delivered to me by my Father, and no man knows the Son except the Father, nor does any man know the Father but the Son, and he to whomever the Son wishes to reveal.

27  All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

28  Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.

28  Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

30  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

12:1  At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. And His disciples became hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat.

12:2  But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, "Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!"

2  But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to do upon the sabbath.

2  Then the Pharisees, seeing this, said to him, “Behold, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbaths.”

12:3  But He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and those who were with him

12:4  how they entered the house of God, and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, except only for the priests?

4  How he entered into the house of God, and did eat bread that was on the table of the Lord, that which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?

12:5  Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are guiltless?

12:6  Yet I say to you that [One] greater[ than] the temple is here.

6  But I say to you, that something greater than the temple is here.

12:7  But if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless.

7  And if you knew what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would never have condemned the innocent.

12:8  For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."

12:9  And having departed from there, He went into their synagogue.

9  And when he had passed from there, he went into their synagogues.

9  And Jesus departed from thence and came to their synagogue.

12:10  And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?"-that they might accuse Him.

12:11  Then He said to them, "What man is there among you who shall have one sheep, and if it should fall into a ditch on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out?

12:12  How much more valuable then is a man than a sheep! So then it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath."

12:13  Then He said to the man, "Stretch out your hand."And he stretched it out, and it was restored whole like the other.

13  Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, as the other.

12:14  But the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.

14  Then the Pharisees, departing, took council against him, as to how they might destroy him.

14  And the Pharisees went out, and they took counsel concerning him, so as to do away with him.

12:15  But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew from there. And great crowds followed Him, and He healed them all.

15  And Jesus perceiving [it] withdrew from thence: and many followed him; and he healed them all,

15  But Jesus knew of it, and departed from thence; and a great many people followed him, and he healed them all.

12:16  And He warned them that they should not make Him known,

16  And he instructed them, lest they make him known.

16  And he charged them not to say where he was,

12:17  so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying,

17  Then what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah was fulfilled, saying

12:18  "Behold, My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased! I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He will announce justice to the Gentiles.

12:19  He will not quarrel nor cry out, nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.

19  He shall not strive, nor cry aloud; Neither shall any one hear his voice in the streets.

12:20  A bruised reed He shall not break, and a smoldering wick He shall not quench, till He bring forth justice to victory;

20  He shall not crush the bruised reed, and he shall not extinguish the smoking wick, until he sends forth judgment unto victory.

20  He will not break even a bruised reed, and he will not extinguish a flickering lamp, until he brings justice to victory;

12:21  And in His name [the] nations shall hope."

21  And the Gentiles shall hope in his name.”

12:22  Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the blind and mute [man] both spoke and saw.

22  Then was brought unto him one possessed with a demon, blind and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the dumb man spake and saw.

22  Then one who had a demon, who was blind and mute, was brought to him. And he cured him, so that he spoke and saw.

12:23  And all the crowds were amazed and said, "This is not the Son of David, [is it]?"

23  All the people were amazed and said, Perhaps this man is the son of David?

12:24  But the Pharisees, having heard, said, "This [Man] does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, ruler of the demons."

24  But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This man doth not cast out demons, but by Beelzebub the prince of the demons.

12:25  But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said to them: "Every kingdom being divided against itself is made desolate, and every city or house being divided against itself shall not stand.

25  And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand

12:26  And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?

12:27  And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast [them] out? Therefore they shall be your judges.

12:28  But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.

12:29  Or how is one able to enter a strong [man's] house to plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong [man]? And then he will plunder his household.

29  Or how can one enter into the house of the strong [man,] and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong [man]? and then he will spoil his house.

29  Or, how can a man enter into a strong manÆs house and plunder his goods, except he first bind the strong man, and then he plunders his house?

12:30  He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters.

30  He that is not with me is against me, and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.

12:31  "Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven unto men.

31  For this reason, I say to you: Every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.

31  Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

12:32  And whoever says a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age, or in the coming [one.]

12:33  "Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree rotten and its fruit rotten; for a tree is known by its fruit.

33  Either produce like a good tree with good fruits, or produce like a bad tree with bad fruits; for a tree is known by its fruits.

12:34  Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

34  Progeny of vipers, how are you able to speak good things while you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

34  O generation of scorpions, how can you speak good things when you are bad? For the mouth speaks from the fullness of the heart.

12:35  A good man out of his good treasure brings forth good things, and an evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil things.

12:36  But I say to you, that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.

36  And I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

36  For I say to you, that for every foolish word which men speak, they will have to answer for it on the day of judgment.

12:37  For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned."

37  For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

12:38  Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, "Teacher, we wish to see a sign from You."

38  Then certain of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying, Teacher, we would see a sign from thee.

38  Then some of the men of the scribes and Pharisees answered and said to him, Teacher, we would like to see a sign from you.

12:39  But He answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

12:40  For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

40  For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

12:41  The men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation and shall condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, a greater[ than] Jonah [is] here.

41  Even the men of Nineveh will rise up in judgment with this generation, and find it guilty; for they repented through the preaching of Jonah, and behold, a greater than Jonah is here.

12:42  The queen of the South shall rise up in the judgment with this generation and she shall condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, a greater[ than] Solomon [is] here.

12:43  "When an unclean spirit goes out from a man, he goes through waterless places, seeking rest, and does not find [any].

43  But the unclean spirit, when he is gone out of the man, passeth through waterless places, seeking rest, and findeth it not.

12:44  Then he says, 'I will return to my house from where I came out.' And when he comes, he finds it unoccupied, swept, and adorned.

44  Then he saith, I will return into my house whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

12:45  Then he goes and takes along with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and entering in they dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Thus it shall also be for this wicked generation."

45  Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man becometh worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this evil generation.

45  Then it goes away and brings with it seven other spirits worse than itself, and they enter and live in it; and the end of that man becomes worse than at first. Such will happen to this evil generation.

12:46  And while He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His mother and brothers stood outside, seeking to speak with Him.

46  While he was yet speaking to the multitudes, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, seeking to speak to him.

12:47  Then one said to Him, "Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You."

47  And one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, seeking to speak to thee.

47  And someone said to him: “Behold, your mother and your brothers are standing outside, seeking you.”

12:48  But He answered and said to him that told Him, "Who is My mother? And who are My brothers?"

48  But responding to the one speaking to him, he said, “Which one is my mother, and who are my brothers?”

12:49  And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Behold; My mother, and My brothers!

49  And extending his hand to his disciples, he said: “Behold: my mother and my brothers.

12:50  For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother."

50  For whosoever shall do the will of my Father who is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.

13:1  On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea.

1  In that day, Jesus, departing from the house, sat down beside the sea.

1  THAT same day Jesus went out of the house, and sat by the seaside.

13:2  And great crowds were gathered together to Him, so that He got into the boat and sat; and the crowd stood on the shore.

2  And there were gathered unto him great multitudes, so that he entered into a boat, and sat; and all the multitude stood on the beach.

2  And many people gathered around him, so that he had to go up and sit in a boat, and all the people stood on the seashore.

13:3  And He spoke to them many things in parables, saying: "Behold, a sower went out to sow.

13:4  And as he sowed, some seed fell alongside the road; and the birds came and devoured them.

4  And while he was sowing, some fell beside the road, and the birds of the air came and ate it.

4  And when he had sown, some seed fell on the roadside, and the fowls came and ate it.

13:5  But others fell on the stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth.

5  Other fell upon the rock, where there was not sufficient soil; and it sprang up earlier because the ground was not deep enough;

13:6  But when the sun rose, it was scorched, and because it had no root, it withered away.

6  and when the sun was risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

13:7  But others fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them out.

7  And others fell upon the thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked them

7  Still others fell among thorns, and the thorns increased and suffocated them.

13:8  But others fell on good ground and it was yielding fruit: some a hundred[fold], some sixty, some thirty.

8  Yet some others fell upon good soil, and they produced fruit: some one hundred fold, some sixty fold, some thirty fold.

13:9  He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"

9  He that hath ears, let him hear.

9  Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

13:10  And the disciples approached and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?"

10  Then his disciples drew near to him and said, Why do you speak to them in parables?

13:11  He answered and said to them, "To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.

13:12  For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he shall be in abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.

12  For to him who has, shall be given and it shall increase to him; but to him who has not, even that which he has shall be taken away from him.

13:13  Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.

13  This is the reason I speak to them in figures, because they see and yet cannot perceive; and they hear and yet do not listen, nor do they understand.

13:14  And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says: 'Hearing you shall hear and by no means understand, and seeing you shall see and by no means perceive.

14  And unto them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand; And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive

14  And so, in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, who said, ‘Hearing, you shall hear, but not understand; and seeing, you shall see, but not perceive.

13:15  For the heart of this people has become dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes have closed, lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn back, that I should heal them.'

15  For this people`s heart is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes they have closed; Lest haply they should perceive with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And should turn again, And I should heal them.

13:16  "But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears, because they hear.

16  But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear.

13:17  For assuredly I say to you, that many prophets and righteous [men] desired to see what you see, and they did not see, and to hear what you hear, and they did not hear."

17  For verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which ye see, and saw them not; and to hear the things which ye hear, and heard them not.

17  Amen I say to you, certainly, that many of the prophets and the just desired to see what you see, and yet they did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and yet they did not hear it.

13:18  "Therefore hear the parable of the sower

18  Hear then ye the parable of the sower.

18  Now you listen to the parable of the seed.

13:19  When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand, then the evil [one] comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the [seed] being sown beside the road.

19  When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, [then] cometh the evil [one], and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the way side.

19  With anyone who hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, evil comes and carries away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received the seed by the side of the road.

13:20  But the [seed] sown on stony ground, is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;

20  And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it;

13:21  yet he has no root in himself, but is short-lived. For when tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he falls away.

21  yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth.

21  But it has no root in him, except for a while; and when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately stumbles.

13:22  But the [seed] sown in the thorns is he who hears the word, and the anxiety of this age, and the deceitfulness of riches chokes out the word, and it becomes fruitless.

22  And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

13:23  But the [seed] sown on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundred[fold], some sixty, some thirty."

23  Yet truly, whoever has received the seed into good soil, this is he who hears the word, and understands it, and so he bears fruit, and he produces: some a hundred fold, and another sixty fold, and another thirty fold.”

13:24  Another parable He set before them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man sowing good seed in his field.

24  He related another parable to them, and said, The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.

13:25  But while the men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went away.

25  And when the men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went away.

13:26  But when the stalk had sprouted and produced fruit, then the tares also appeared.

26  And when the plants had grown, and had produced fruit, then the weeds also appeared.

13:27  So the servants of the master of the house approached and said to him, 'Sir, [was it ]not good seed you sowed in your field? From where then does it have tares?'

27  And the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? whence then hath it tares?

27  So the servants of the landowner came and said to him, Our lord, behold, did you not sow good seed in your field; whence did the tares come into it?

13:28  "He said to them, 'An enemy has done this.' So the servants said to him, 'Do you wish then that we should go and gather them up?'

13:29  "But he said, 'No, lest gathering up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them.

29  And he said: ‘No, lest perhaps in gathering the weeds, you might also root out the wheat together with it.

29  But he said to them, It might happen that while you were picking out the tares, you might uproot with them also the wheat.

13:30  Leave both to grow together until the harvest; and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, "First gather together the tares, and bind them into bundles to burn them, but gather together the wheat into my barn."' "

30  Permit both to grow until the harvest, and at the time of the harvest, I will say to the reapers: Gather first the weeds, and bind them into bundles to burn, but the wheat gather into my storehouse.’ ”

30  Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

13:31  Another parable He set before them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field,

31  He related another parable to them, and said, The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field.

13:32  which indeed is smaller [than] all the seeds; but whenever it is grown, it is greater [than] the garden vegetables and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches."

32  It is, indeed, the least of all seeds, but when it has grown, it is greater than all the plants, and it becomes a tree, so much so that the birds of the air come and dwell in its branches.”

13:33  Another parable He spoke to them: "The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and mixed in with three measures of meal, until the whole was leavened."

33  He told them another parable. The kingdom of heaven is like the leaven, which a woman took and buried in three measures of flour, until it was all leavened.

13:34  Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the crowds, and without a parable He did not speak to them,

34  All these things spake Jesus in parables unto the multitudes; and without a parable spake he nothing unto them

13:35  so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: "I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things having been hidden from the foundation of the world."

35  in order to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet, saying: “I will open my mouth in parables. I will proclaim what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.”

35  That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

13:36  Then having dismissed the crowds, Jesus went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field."

36  Then he left the multitudes, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Explain unto us the parable of the tares of the field.

36  Then Jesus left the multitudes and came into the house; and his disciples came up to him, and said, Explain to us the parable of the tares and the field.

13:37  He answered and said to them: "He that sows the good seed is the Son of Man.

37  Responding, he said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of man.

13:38  And the field is the world, and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the evil [one].

38  Now the field is the world. And the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom. But the weeds are the sons of wickedness.

38  The field is the world; the good seed are the sons of the kingdom; but the tares are the sons of evil.

13:39  The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.

39  and the enemy that sowed them is the devil: and the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are angels.

39  So the enemy who sowed them is the devil. And truly, the harvest is the consummation of the age; while the reapers are the Angels.

13:40  Therefore just as the tares are gathered and burned with fire, thus it will be at the end of this age.

40  As therefore the tares are gathered up and burned with fire; so shall it be in the end of the world.

13:41  The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who work iniquity,

13:42  and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

42  and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

13:43  Then the righteous will shine forth like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"

13:44  "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure having been hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it, he went and sold everything he had, and bought that field."

44  The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in the field; which a man found, and hid; and in his joy he goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

44  Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

13:45  "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls,

13:46  who, when he found one very precious pearl, went and sold everything he had and bought it."

46  and having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

13:47  "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet having been cast into the sea, and gathering some of every kind,

47  Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net cast into the sea, which gathers together all kinds of fish.

13:48  which, when it was filled, they pulled up on the shore; and sitting down, they collected the good into vessels, but the rotten they threw out.

48  When it was filled, they drew it to the shore, and sat down and sorted them; the good ones they put into bags, and the bad they threw away.

13:49  Thus it shall be at the end of the age: the angels shall go forth and separate the evil from among the righteous,

49  So shall it be at the consummation of the age. The Angels shall go forth and separate the bad from the midst of the just.

49  So will it be at the end of the world; the angels will go out and separate the bad from among the righteous,

13:50  and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

13:51  Jesus said to them, "Have you understood all these things?"They said to Him, "Yes, Lord."

51  Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea.

13:52  Then He said to them, "Therefore every scribe having become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure new and old [things]."

52  And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe who hath been made a disciple to the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.

52  He said to them, “Therefore, every scribe well-taught about the kingdom of heaven, is like a man, the father of a family, who offers from his storehouse both the new and the old.”

13:53  Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables, He went away from there.

53  And it happened that, when Jesus had completed these parables, he went away from there.

13:54  And coming into His hometown, He began to teach them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, "Where did this Man get this wisdom and the powerful works?

13:55  Is this not the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Jude?

55  Is he not the carpenterÆs son? Is not his mother called Mary? and his brothers, James and Joses and Simon and Judah?

13:56  And His sisters, are they not all with us? From where then did this Man get all these things?"

56  Are not all his sisters with us? Where did he get all these things?

13:57  So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown, and in his [own ]house."

57  And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house.

13:58  And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.

14:1  At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report [about] Jesus,

14:2  and said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist; he has been raised from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him."

2  And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

14:3  For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife.

14:4  For John said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her."

14:5  Though desiring to kill him, he feared the crowd, because they counted him as a prophet.

5  And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

5  So Herod wanted to kill him, but he was afraid of the people, because they accepted him as a prophet.

14:6  Now when Herod's birthday was being celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and she pleased Herod.

6  But when Herod`s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod.

14:7  Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.

7  And so he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask of him.

7  He therefore swore to her with oaths, that he would give her anything that she asked.

14:8  So she, being urged on by her mother, said, "Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist."

8  And she, being put forward by her mother, saith, Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.

14:9  And the king was grieved, but because of the oaths, and because of those who reclined [to eat] with him, he commanded it to be given.

9  And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.

14:10  And having sent, he beheaded John in the prison.

14:11  And his head was brought on a platter and it was given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother.

14:12  Then his disciples came forward and took the body and buried it, and coming, they reported it to Jesus.

12  And his disciples came, and took up the corpse, and buried him; and they went and told Jesus.

14:13  When Jesus heard it, He withdrew from there in a boat for a deserted place privately. But when the crowds heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities.

13  Now when Jesus heard [it], he withdrew from thence in a boat, to a desert place apart: and when the multitudes heard [thereof,] they followed him on foot from the cities.

14:14  And coming out, Jesus saw a large crowd, and He was moved with compassion towards them, and healed their sick.

14:15  Now when evening came, His disciples came to Him, saying, "The place is deserted, and the hour is already late. Dismiss the crowds, that they may go to the villages and buy food for themselves."

15  And when evening had arrived, his disciples approached him, saying: “This is a deserted place, and the hour has now passed. Dismiss the crowds, so that, by going into the towns, they may buy food for themselves.”

15  When it was evening, his disciples came to him, and they said to him, This is a lonely place, and it is getting late; dismiss the people so that the men may go to the villages and buy food for themselves.

14:16  But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to go away. You give them [food] to eat."

16  But he said to them, It is not necessary for them to go; you give them something to eat.

16  But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

14:17  And they said to Him, "We do not have [anything ]here except five loaves of bread and two fish."

17  And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.

17  They answered him, “We have nothing here, except five loaves and two fish.”

14:18  But He said, "Bring them here to Me."

18  And he said, Bring them hither to me.

18  He said to them, “Bring them here to me.”

14:19  And commanding the crowds to recline on the grass, taking the five loaves of bread and the two fish, looking up to heaven, He blessed, and breaking [them,] He[ ] gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples [gave] to the crowds.

19  And he commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.

19  And he ordered the people to sit down on the ground, and he took the five loaves of bread and the two fish, and he looked up to heaven and he blessed them, and he broke them, and gave them to his disciples, and the disciples placed them before the people.

14:20  So they all ate and were satisfied, and they took up what they had left of the fragments, twelve baskets full.

20  And they all ate, and were filled: and they took up that which remained over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full.

14:21  Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, apart from women and children.

21  And they that did eat were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

21  And the men who ate were five thousand, not counting the women and children.

14:22  And immediately Jesus compelled the disciples to get into the boat, and to go ahead of Him to the other side, until He could dismiss the crowds.

22  And straightway he constrained the disciples to enter into the boat, and to go before him unto the other side, till he should send the multitudes away.

22  And Jesus promptly compelled his disciples to climb into the boat, and to precede him in crossing the sea, while he dismissed the crowds.

14:23  And having dismissed the crowds, He went up on the mountain privately to pray. And when evening had come, He was there alone.

23  And after he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain apart to pray: and when even was come, he was there alone.

23  And when he had dismissed the people, he went up to the mountain alone to pray; and when darkness fell he was still there alone.

14:24  But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, being harassed by the waves, for the wind was against [them].

24  But in the midst of the sea, the boat was being tossed about by the waves. For the wind was against them.

14:25  Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.

25  And in the fourth watch of the night he came unto them, walking upon the sea.

14:26  And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, "It is a ghost!"And they cried out for fear.

26  And seeing him walking upon the sea, they were disturbed, saying: “It must be an apparition.” And they cried out, because of fear.

26  And his disciples saw him walking on the water, and they were scared, and they said, It is a false vision; and they cried out because of their fear.

14:27  But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Have courage! [It is] I AM; do not fear."

27  But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

27  And immediately, Jesus spoke to them, saying: “Have faith. It is I. Do not be afraid.”

14:28  But Peter answered Him and said, "Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the waters."

28  And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto the upon the waters.

28  Then Peter responded by saying, “Lord, if it is you, order me come to you over the waters.”

14:29  So He said, "Come."And stepping down from the boat, Peter walked on the waters to go toward Jesus.

29  And he said, Come. And Peter went down from the boat, and walked upon the waters to come to Jesus.

29  Jesus said to him, Come. So Peter went down from the boat, and walked on the water, to come to Jesus.

14:30  But seeing the strong wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!"

30  Yet truly, seeing that the wind was strong, he was afraid. And as he began to sink, he cried out, saying: “Lord, save me.”

14:31  And immediately, Jesus reaching out His hand, laid hold of him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"

31  And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and took hold of him, and saith unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

31  And our Lord immediately stretched out his hand and grasped him; and he said to him, O you of little faith, why did you doubt?

14:32  And when they had gotten into the boat, the wind ceased.

14:33  Then those who were in the boat came and worshipped Him, saying, "Truly You are the Son of God."

33  And they that were in the boat worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

33  And they who were in the boat came and worshipped him; and they said, Truly you are the Son of God.

14:34  And having crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.

34  And when they had crossed over, they came to the land, unto Gennesaret.

34  And they rowed and came to the land of Gennesaret.

14:35  And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, and they brought to Him all those who were ill,

35  And the men of that country recognized him, and they sent word to all the villages around them; so they brought to him all who were seriously sick.

14:36  and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched [Him] were completely healed.

36  and they besought him that they might only touch the border of his garment: and as many as touched were made whole.

15:1  Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem approached Jesus, saying,

1  THEN Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem came up to Jesus, saying,

15:2  "Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands whenever they eat bread."

15:3  He answered and said to them, "Why do you also transgress the commandment of God on account of your tradition?

3  But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

15:4  For God commanded, saying, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'He who curses father or mother, with death let him die.'

4  For God said, Honor thy father and thy mother: and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death.

4  ‘Honor your father and mother,’ and, ‘Whoever will have cursed father or mother shall die a death.’

15:5  But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or mother, "[It is] a gift [to God], whatever profit you might have received from me"-

5  But you say, Whoever says to a father or to a mother, Whatever you may be benefited from me is Corban (my offering), he need not honor his father or his mother.

15:6  then by no means should he honor his father or mother.' Thus you have nullified the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition.

6  he shall not honor his father. And ye have made void the word of God because of your tradition.

6  So you have rendered useless the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

15:7  Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying,

7  Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,

7  O you hypocrites, the prophet Isaiah well prophesied concerning you and said,

15:8  'These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and they honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far away from Me.

8  This people honoreth me with their lips; But their heart is far from me.

8  This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

15:9  And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' "

9  But in vain do they worship me, Teaching [as their] doctrines the precepts of men.

15:10  And having summoned the crowd, He said to them, "Hear and understand

10  Then he called the people and said to them, Listen and understand.

10  And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand

15:11  Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man."

11  Not that which entereth into the mouth defileth the man; but that which proceedeth out of the mouth, this defileth the man.

11  A man is not defiled by what enters into the mouth, but by what proceeds from the mouth. This is what defiles a man.”

15:12  Then His disciples approached and said to Him, "You know that when the Pharisees heard this message they were offended?"

15:13  But He answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.

13  But in response he said: “Every plant which has not been planted by my heavenly Father shall be uprooted.

15:14  Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. And if the blind guides the blind, both will fall into a ditch."

14  Let them alone: they are blind guides. And if the blind guide the blind, both shall fall into a pit.

15:15  Then Peter answered and said to Him, "Explain to us this parable."

15  And responding, Peter said to him, “Explain this parable to us.”

15  And Simon Peter answered and said to him, My Lord, explain this parable to us.

15:16  So Jesus said, "Are you also still without understanding?

16  And he said, Are ye also even yet without understanding?

16  But he said: “Are you, even now, without understanding?

15:17  Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach, and is cast out into a latrine?

17  Perceive ye not, that whatsoever goeth into the mouth passeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?

17  Do you not know that what enters into the mouth goes into the stomach, and thence, through the intestines, is cast out?

15:18  But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.

18  But what proceeds from the mouth, goes forth from the heart, and those are the things that defile a man.

18  But what comes out of the mouth comes out from the heart; and that is what defiles man.

15:19  For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

15:20  These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man."

20  It is these that defile man; but if a man should eat when his hands are unwashed, he will not be defiled.

15:21  And going out from there, Jesus withdrew into the region of Tyre and Sidon.

21  And Jesus went out thence, and withdrew into the parts of Tyre and Sidon.

15:22  And behold, a Canaanite woman coming forth from that region cried out to Him, saying, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed."

22  And behold, a woman of Canaan, going out from those parts, cried out, saying to him: “Take pity on me, Lord, Son of David. My daughter is badly afflicted by a demon.”

22  And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

15:23  But He answered her not a word. And His disciples approached and urged Him, saying, "Send her away, for she cries out after us."

23  He did not say a word to her. And his disciples, drawing near, petitioned him, saying: “Dismiss her, for she is crying out after us.”

23  But he did not answer her. And his disciples came up to him and urged him, saying, Dismiss her, for she keeps crying aloud after us.

15:24  But He answered and said, "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

24  And responding, he said, “I was not sent except to the sheep who have fallen away from the house of Israel.”

24  And he answered and said to them, I am not sent, except to the sheep which went astray from the house of Israel.

15:25  Then she came and worshipped Him, saying, "Lord, help me!"

25  But she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

15:26  But He answered and said, "It is not good to take the children's bread and to throw [it] to the little dogs."

26  And he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children`s bread and cast it to the dogs.

26  Jesus said to her, It is not right to take the childrenÆs bread and throw it to the dogs.

15:27  But she said, "Yes, Lord, for even the little dogs eat from the crumbs falling from their masters' table."

27  But she said Yes, my Lord, even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from the masterÆs tray, and they live.

15:28  Then Jesus answered and said to her, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire."And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

15:29  And moving on from there, Jesus came alongside the Sea of Galilee, and going up into a mountain, He sat down there.

29  And Jesus departed thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and he went up into the mountain, and sat there.

29  And when Jesus had passed from there, he arrived beside the sea of Galilee. And ascending onto a mountain, he sat down there.

15:30  And great crowds came to Him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others; and they put them down at Jesus' feet, and He healed them.

30  And great multitudes came to him, having with them the mute, the blind, the lame, the disabled, and many others. And they cast them down at his feet, and he cured them,

30  And a great many people came to him, who had with them the lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others; and they laid them down at the feet of Jesus, and he healed them.

15:31  So the multitude marveled when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.

31  Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

15:32  Now Jesus, having summoned His disciples, He said, "I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been remaining with Me three days, and they do not have anything to eat. And I do not desire to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way."

32  Jesus then called his disciples and said to them, I have compassion for this people, for they have remained with me three days, and they have nothing to eat; and if I dismiss them fasting, they might faint on the way; but this I do not wish to do.

15:33  Then His disciples said to Him, "Where could we get so many loaves of bread in [this] deserted place, so as to satisfy so great a crowd?"

33  And the disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so many loaves in a desert place as to fill so great a multitude?

33  His disciples said to him, Where can we get bread in this desolate place to feed all this people?

15:34  Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?"And they said, "Seven, and a few small fish."

34  And Jesus said to them, “How many loaves of bread do you have?” But they said, “Seven, and a few little fish.”

15:35  So He commanded the crowds to recline on the ground.

35  And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground;

35  And he instructed the crowds to recline upon the ground.

15:36  And He took the seven loaves and the fish, having given thanks, He broke [them], and gave [them] to His disciples; and the disciples [gave] to the crowd.

36  And taking the seven loaves and the fish, and giving thanks, he broke and gave to his disciples, and the disciples gave to the people.

36  Then he took the seven loaves of bread and the fish, and gave thanks, and he broke them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.

15:37  So they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up what they had left of the fragments, seven hampers full.

37  And they all ate, and were filled: and they took up that which remained over of the broken pieces, seven baskets full.

37  And all of them did eat and were satisfied; and they took up of the fragments that were left over, seven full baskets.

15:38  Now those who ate were four thousand men, apart from women and children.

38  And they that did eat were four thousand men, besides women and children.

15:39  And having dismissed the crowds, He went up into the boat, and came to the region of Magdala.

39  And he sent away the multitudes, and entered into the boat, and came into the borders of Magadan.

39  And when he had dismissed the people, he went up to the boat and came to the border of Magadan.
