Philippians 2:0; 1:1–30:23

Paul and Timothy, bondservants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, together with the overseers and ministers

Byz Nes V TR

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and [the] Lord Jesus Christ.

Grace be to you, and peace from God our Father, and from our LORD Jesus Christ.

Byz Nes TR

I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,

I give thanks to my God, with every remembrance of you,

Byz TR Nes

always in every prayer of mine in behalf of you all, with joy,

always, in all my prayers, making supplication for all of you with joy,

In all my prayers for you, I make supplication with joy,

Byz Nes S TR

for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now,

because of your communion in the Gospel of Christ, from the first day even until now.

Byz

having been persuaded of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus;

being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ

I am confident of this very thing: that he who has begun this good work in you will perfect it, unto the day of Christ Jesus.

Byz Nes TR S

just as it is right for me to think this concerning you all, because I have you in my heart, both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace.

So then, it is right for me to feel this way about all of you, because I hold you in my heart, and because, in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the Gospel, you all are partakers of my joy.

Byz Nes V S TR

For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ.

Byz Nes V TR

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all perception,

And for this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all spiritual understanding

10  that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ,

10  so that ye may approve the things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and void of offence unto the day of Christ;

10  so that you may be confirmed in what is better, in order that you may be sincere and without offense on the day of Christ

Byz Nes S TR

11  filled with the fruit of justice, through Jesus Christ, in the glory and praise of God.

12  But I want you to know, brothers, that the things [which happened ]to me have come about for the advancement of the gospel,

12  Now I would have you know, brethren, that the things [which happened] unto me have fallen out rather unto the progress of the gospel;

12  Now, brothers, I want you to know that the things concerning me happened for the advancement of the Gospel,

Byz Nes TR V S

13  so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ;

Byz S TR

14  and most of the brothers in YHWH, having been persuaded by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word fearlessly.

14  and that most of the brethren in the Lord, being confident through my bonds, are more abundantly bold to speak the word of God without fear.

Byz Nes TR

15  Some indeed are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good will

15  Certainly, some do so even because of envy and contention; and others, too, do so because of a good will to preach Christ.

15  While some of them preach only because of envy and strife; others preach Christ in good will and love

Byz TR

16  The [former ]proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains;

16  the one [do it] of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel;

17  but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel.

17  but the other proclaim Christ of faction, not sincerely, thinking to raise up affliction for me in my bonds.

Byz Nes TR

18  What then? Nevertheless in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice; yes, and I will rejoice.

18  But what does it matter? As long as, by every means, whether under pretext or in truthfulness, Christ is announced. And about this, I rejoice, and moreover, I will continue to rejoice.

18  And I have rejoiced and still do rejoice in this: that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached.

Byz Nes V S TR

19  For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

Byz Nes TR

20  according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I will be ashamed, but with utmost boldness, as always, now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.

20  by means of my own expectation and hope. For in nothing shall I be confounded. Instead, with all confidence, now just as always, Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.

20  Just as it is my earnest hope and expectation that in nothing shall I be ashamed, but that openly as always, so also now will Christ be magnified through my body, whether in life or death.

Byz Nes V TR

21  For to me, to live [is] Christ, and to die [is] gain.

21  For Christ is my life, and to die is gain.

Byz Nes TR

22  But if I am to live on in the flesh, this to me will mean fruit from my labor; and what I shall choose I do not know.

22  And while I live in the flesh, for me, there is the fruit of works. But I do not know which I would choose.

22  Even if, in this life of the flesh, my labors bear fruits, I do not know what to choose.

Byz S TR

23  For I am hard pressed by the two, having a desire to depart and to be with Christ, [which is] far better.

23  But I am in a strait betwixt the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ; for it is very far better

23  For I am constrained between the two: having a desire to be dissolved and to be with Christ, which is the far better thing,

Byz Nes

24  But to remain in the flesh is more needful for your sake.

24  but then to remain in the flesh is necessary for your sake.

24  Nevertheless, for me to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.

Byz Nes TR

25  And having been persuaded of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith,

25  And having this confidence, I know that I shall remain and that I shall continue to remain with all of you, for your advancement and for your joy in the faith,

25  And this I surely know, that I shall be spared and remain for your joy and for the furtherance of your faith;

Byz Nes TR

26  that your boasting may abound in Christ Jesus in me through my coming again to you.

26  so that your rejoicing may abound in Christ Jesus for me, through my return to you again.

Byz Nes S

27  Only conduct yourselves worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one soul striving together for the faith of the gospel,

27  Only let your behavior be worthy of the Gospel of Christ, so that, whether I return and see you, or whether, being absent, I hear about you, still you may stand firm with one spirit, with one mind, laboring together for the faith of the Gospel.

Byz TR Nes S

28  and not being terrified in anything by your enemies, which is to them a proof of destruction, but to you of salvation, and this from God.

28  And in nothing be terrified by the adversaries. For what is to them is an occasion of perdition, is to you an occasion of salvation, and this is from God.

Byz V S TR

29  For to you it has been granted for the sake of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,

2:1  Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and acts of compassion,

IF, therefore, you have found consola tion in Christ, or whole hearted love or fellowship of the Spirit or compassion and mercies,

Byz

2:2  fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being united in spirit, intending the same purpose,

complete my joy by having the same understanding, holding to the same charity, being of one mind, with the same sentiment.

Byz Nes

2:3  doing nothing according to selfish ambition or conceit, but with humility, regarding one another as being better than yourselves.

Let nothing be done by contention, nor in vain glory. Instead, in humility, let each of you esteem others to be better than himself.

Do nothing through strife or vain glory; but in humility let each regard his neighbor better than himself.

Byz V Nes

2:4  Let each of you look out not only for his own concerns, but also for the concerns of others.

Let no one be mindful only of his own things, but let every one be mindful of the things of his neighbor also.

Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

Byz Nes TR

2:5  Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,

For this understanding in you was also in Christ Jesus

Reason this within you which Jesus Christ also reasoned,

He humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, even the death of the Cross.

2:9  Therefore God also has highly exalted Him, and has graciously given Him a name which is above every name,

Byz Nes V S TR

2:12  So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

Byz Nes S TR

2:13  for it is God who is working in you, both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

13  For it is God who works in you, both so as to choose, and so as to act, in accord with his good will.

2:14  Do all things without grumbling and disputing,

14  And do everything without murmuring or hesitation.

Byz Nes TR S

2:15  in order that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine as light bearers in the world,

16  For you are to them the light of life; for my pride and glory in the day of Christ, for I have not run in vain nor labored in vain.

Byz

2:17  But even if I am being poured upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice; [yea,] and I rejoice with you all.

17  Yea, and if I am offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all

17  Moreover, if I am to be immolated because of the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and give thanks with all of you.

Byz TR

2:18  For the same reason you also rejoice and rejoice together with me.

18  and in the same manner do ye also joy, and rejoice with me.

18  Likewise you also must be happy and rejoice with me.

Byz

2:19  Now I hope in YHWH Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, that I also may be encouraged when I learn of your circumstances.

19  But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.

19  But I trust in our LORD Jesus Christ to send Ti-moÆthe-us to you soon, that I also may be at ease when I learn of your well being.

Byz Nes TR V

2:20  For I have no one like-minded, who will be genuinely concerned about your circumstances.

20  For I have no one here as interested as I am, who will sincerely care for your welfare;

Byz Nes S TR

2:21  For all seek their own interests, not the things of Christ Jesus.

21  For they all seek the things that are of themselves, not the things that are of Jesus Christ.

2:22  And you know his approved character, that as a child with his father he served as a slave for the gospel.

22  But ye know the proof of him, that, as a child [serveth] a father, [so] he served with me in furtherance of the gospel.

22  So know this evidence of him: that like a son with a father, so has he served with me in the Gospel.

Byz V

2:23  Therefore I hope to send him at once, as soon as I may see how my circumstances go.

23  Him therefore I hope to send forthwith, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me

23  I hope to send him to you presently, as soon as I see how it will go with me.

Byz

2:25  Yet I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, and your messenger and minister to my needs;

25  Now I have considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and co-worker, and fellow soldier, and an attendant to my needs, but your Apostle.

25  But right now I am forced through circumstances to send to you Epaphroditus, a brother, and assistant and co-worker with me, but he is also your apostle and one who ministers to my wants.

2:26  since he was longing for you all, and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick.

26  For certainly, he has desired all of you, and he was saddened because you had heard that he was sick.

26  For he has been longing to see you all, and has been depressed because he knew you had heard that he had been sick.

Byz Nes S TR

2:27  For indeed he was sick, [and ]near death; but God showed mercy [on] him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

27  For he was sick, even unto death, but God took pity on him, and not only on him, but truly on myself also, so that I would not have sorrow upon sorrow.

Byz S

2:28  Therefore I sent him more eagerly, in order that when you see him again you may have joy, and I may be less anxious.

28  I have sent him therefore the more diligently, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.

28  Therefore, I sent him more readily, in order that, by seeing him again, you may rejoice, and I may be without sorrow.

Byz Nes TR

2:29  Receive him therefore in YHWH with the utmost joy, and hold such [ones] in honor;

29  And so, receive him with every joy in the Lord, and treat all those like him with honor.

29  Welcome him, therefore, in the LORD with all joy; and honour those who are like him

Byz Nes S TR

2:30  because for the work of Christ he drew near unto death, being careless with his life, in order that he might fill up that which was lacking in your service to me.

30  For he was brought close even to death, for the sake of the work of Christ, handing over his own life, so that he might fulfill what was lacking from you concerning my service.

3:1  Finally, my brothers, rejoice in YHWH. For me to write the same things to you is not troublesome, but for you it is safe.

Concerning other things, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. It is certainly not tiresome for me to write the same things to you, but for you, it is not necessary.

HENCEFORTH, my brethren, rejoice in our LORD. It does not bother me to write the same things to you, because they enlighten you.

Beware of dogs; beware of those who work evil; beware of those who are divisive.

Beware of backbiters, beware of evil workers, beware of circumcising.

Byz Nes V TR

For I was circumcised on the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, from the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew among Hebrews. According to the law, I was a Pharisee;

Because I was circumcised when I was eight days old, being an Israelite by race, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew son of Hebrews, and according to the law a Pharisee;

3:6  with respect to zeal, persecuting the church; with respect to righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

according to zeal, I persecuted the Church of God; according to the justice that is in the law, I lived without blame.

And because, concerning zeal, I was a persecutor of the church; and according to the standards of righteousness of the law, I was blameless.

4:15  Now you Philippians also know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I went out from Macedonia, no church shared with me in an accounting of giving and receiving except you only.

15  And ye yourselves also know, ye Philippians, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church had fellowship with me in the matter of giving and receiving but ye only;

15  But you also know, O Philippians, that at the beginning of the Gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not a single church shared with me in the plan of giving and receiving, except you alone.

4:16  Because even in Thessalonica, both once and again you sent for my need.

16  for even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my need.

16  For you even sent to Thessalonica, once, and then a second time, for what was useful to me.

4:18  And I have all things and abound. I have been made full, having received from Epaphroditus the things [sent] from you, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God.

18  But I have everything in abundance. I have been filled up, having received from Epaphroditus the things that you sent; this is an odor of sweetness, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.

18  I have received everything I need, and it is more than enough: I am satisfied, having received everything you sent me by Epaphroditus, and it was welcome as a fragrant perfume and a sacrifice acceptable and well pleasing to God.
