Why standest Thou afar off, O YHWH? Why hidest Thou Thyself in times of trouble?

Ps9:21  So then, why, O Lord, have you withdrawn far away? Why have you overlooked us in opportunity, in tribulation?

Through the pride of the wicked the poor is hotly pursued, they are taken in the devices that they have imagined.

Ps9:22  While the impious is arrogant, the poor is enflamed. They are held by the counsels that they devise.

For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and the covetous vaunteth himself, though he contemn YHWH.

Because the sinner praises himself for the desires of his heart; and the unjust one blesses himself.

Ps9:23  For the sinner is praised by the desires of his soul, and the iniquitous is blessed.

The wicked, in the pride of his countenance , saith : 'He will not require'; all his thoughts are: 'There is no God.'

The sinner has provoked the Lord: according to the abundance of his pride he will not seek after him : God is not before him.

His ways prosper at all times; Thy judgments are far above out of his sight; as for all his adversaries, he puffeth at them.

His ways are profane at all times; thy judgements are removed from before him: he will gain the mastery over all his enemies.

Ps9:25  God is not before his sight. His ways are stained at all times. Your judgments are removed from his face. He will be master of all his enemies.

He saith in his heart: 'I shall not be moved, I who to all generations shall not be in adversity.'

For he has said in his heart, I shall not be moved, continuing without evil from generation to generation.

He says in his heart, I shall not be moved from generation to generation; for he conceives evil.

His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue is mischief and iniquity.

Whose mouth is full of cursing, and bitterness, and fraud: under his tongue are trouble and pain.

He sitteth in the lurking-places of the villages; in secret places doth he slay the innocent; his eyes are on the watch for the helpless.

He lies in wait with rich men in secret places, in order to slay the innocent: his eyes are set against the poor.

Ps9:28  He sits in ambush, with resources in hidden places, so that he may execute the innocent.

He lieth in wait in a secret place as a lion in his lair, he lieth in wait to catch the poor; he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him up in his net.

Ps9:29  His eyes catch sight of the poor. He lies in ambush, in hiding like a lion in his den. He lies in ambush, so that he may seize the poor, to seize the poor as he draws him in.

He lies in wait to snare the poor by drawing him into his net.

10  He croucheth, he boweth down, and the helpless fall into his mighty claws.

Ps9:30  With his snare, he will bring him down. He will crouch down and pounce, when he has power over the poor.

10  He shall be humbled and overthrown, and in his bones there shall be sickness and pain.

11  He hath said in his heart: 'God hath forgotten; He hideth His face; He will never see.'

13  Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God, and say in his heart: 'Thou wilt not require'?

Ps9:33  How has the impious one provoked God? For he has said in his heart, “He will not inquire.”

13  Why does the wicked provoke God? He says in his heart, God does not seek vengeance.

14  Thou hast seen; for Thou beholdest trouble and vexation, to requite them with Thy hand; unto Thee the helpless committeth himself; Thou hast been the helper of the fatherless.

14  Thou seest it; for thou dost observe trouble and wrath, to deliver them into thy hands: the poor has been left to thee; thou wast a helper to the orphan.

Ps9:34  You do see, for you examine hardship and sorrow, so that you may deliver them into your hands. The poor one has been abandoned to you. You will be a helper to the orphan.

15  Break Thou the arm of the wicked; and as for the evil man, search out his wickedness, till none be found.

Ps9:35  Break the arm of the sinner and the malicious. His sin will be sought, and it will not be found.

16  YHWH is King for ever and ever; the nations are perished out of His land.

16  The Lord shall reign for ever, even for ever and ever: ye Gentiles shall perish out his land.

17  YHWH, Thou hast heard the desire of the humble: Thou wilt direct their heart, Thou wilt cause Thine ear to attend;

17  The Lord has heard the desire of the poor: thine ear has inclined to the preparation of their heart;

18  To right the fatherless and the oppressed, that man who is of the earth may be terrible no more.

11:1  For the Leader. A Psalm of David. In YHWH have I taken refuge; how say ye to my soul: 'Flee thou! to your mountain, ye birds'?

title  Unto the end. A Psalm of David.

I trust in the Lord. How can you say to my soul, “Sojourn to the mountain, like a sparrow.”

IN the LORD put I my trust; how say you to me, Flee as a bird to the mountains?

11:2  For, lo, the wicked bend the bow, they have made ready their arrow upon the string, that they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart.

For behold the sinners have bent their bow, they have prepared their arrows for the quiver, to shoot privily at the upright in heart.

11:3  When the foundations are destroyed, what hath the righteous wrought?

For they have pulled down what thou didst frame, but what has the righteous done?

For if they have destroyed the foundations which the LORD has prepared, what can the righteous do?

11:4  YHWH is in His holy temple, YHWH, His throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids try, the children of men.

The Lord is in his holy temple, as for the Lord, his throne is in heaven: his eyes look upon the poor, his eyelids try the sons of men.

11:5  YHWH trieth the righteous; but the wicked and him that loveth violence His soul hateth.

The Lord tries the righteous and the ungodly: and he that loves unrighteousness hates his own soul.

Ps10:5  The Lord questions the just and the impious. Yet he who loves iniquity, hates his own soul.

11:6  Upon the wicked He will cause to rain coals; fire and brimstone and burning wind shall be the portion of their cup.

He shall rain upon sinners snares, fire, and brimstone, and a stormy blast shall be the portion of their cup.

11:7  For YHWH is righteous, He loveth righteousness; the upright shall behold His face.

For the Lord is righteous, and loves righteousness; his face beholds uprightness.

Ps10:7  For the Lord is just, and he has chosen justice. His countenance has beheld equity.

12:1  Help, YHWH; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.

Save me, O Lord; for the godly man has failed; for truth is diminished from among the children of men.

SAVE, O LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for faith hath disappeared from the earth.

12:2  They speak falsehood every one with his neighbour; with flattering lip, and with a double heart, do they speak.

Ps11:2  They have been speaking emptiness, each one to his neighbor; they have been speaking with deceitful lips and a duplicitous heart.

12:3  May YHWH cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaketh proud things!

Let the Lord destroy all the deceitful lips, and the tongue that speaks great words

Ps11:3  May the Lord scatter all deceitful lips, along with the tongue that speaks malice.

12:4  Who have said: 'Our tongue will we make mighty; our lips are with us: who is lord over us?'

Ps11:4  They have said: “We will magnify our tongue; our lips belong to us. What is Lord to us?”

For they have said, With our tongue will we prevail: our lips are our own; who is lord over us?

12:5  'For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise', saith YHWH; 'I will set him in safety at whom they puff.'

Because of the misery of the poor, and because of the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the Lord, I will set them in safety; I will speak to them thereof openly.

Because of the oppression of the poor and the groans of the needy, now will I arise, says the LORD; and I will bring salvation openly.

12:6  The words of YHWH are pure words, as silver tried in a crucible on the earth, refined seven times.

The oracles of the Lord are pure oracles; as silver tried in the fire, proved in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

Ps11:6  The eloquence of the Lord is pure eloquence, silver tested by fire, purged from the earth, refined seven times.

12:7  Thou wilt keep them, O YHWH; Thou wilt preserve us from this generation for ever.

Thou, O Lord, shalt keep us, and shalt preserve us, from this generation, and for ever.

Ps11:7  You, O Lord, will preserve us, and you will guard us from this generation into eternity.

12:8  The wicked walk on every side, when vileness is exalted among the sons of men.

13:1  How long, O YHWH, wilt Thou forget me for ever? How long wilt Thou hide Thy face from me?

How long, O Lord, wilt thou forget me? for ever? how long wilt thou turn away thy face from me?

Unto the end. A Psalm of David. How long, O Lord? Will you forget me until the end? How long will you turn your face away from me?

13:2  How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart by day? How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?

How long can I take counsel in my soul, sorrowing in my heart throughout the day?

13:3  Behold Thou, and answer me, O YHWH my God; lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;

Look on me, hearken to me, O Lord my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep in death;

Consider and hear me, O LORD my God; lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep in death,

13:4  Lest mine enemy say: 'I have prevailed against him'; lest mine adversaries rejoice when I am moved.

lest at any time mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him: my persecutors will exult if ever I should be moved.

13:5  But as for me, in Thy mercy do I trust; my heart shall rejoice in Thy salvation.

But I have hoped in thy mercy; my heart shall exult in thy salvation.

But I have hoped in your mercy. My heart will exult in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, who assigns good things to me. And I will sing psalms to the name of the Lord Most High.

13:6  I will sing unto YHWH, because He hath dealt bountifully with me.

I will sing to the Lord who has dealt bountifully with me, and I will sing psalms to the name of the Lord most high.

14:1  For the Leader. A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart: 'There is no God'; they have dealt corruptly, they have done abominably; there is none that doeth good.

The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They have corrupted themselves, and become abominable in their devices; there is none that does goodness, there is not even so much as one.

14:2  YHWH looked forth from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any man of understanding, that did seek after God.

The Lord looked down from heaven upon the sons of men, to see if there were any that understood, or sought after God.

The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men, to see if there were any who were considering or seeking God.

14:3  They are all corrupt, they are together become impure; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

They are all gone out of the way, they are together become good for nothing, there is none that does good, no not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; their feet are swift to shed blood: destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace they have not known: there is no fear of God before their eyes.

They have all gone astray; together they have become useless. There is no one who does good; there is not even one.

14:4  'Shall not all the workers of iniquity know it, who eat up My people as they eat bread, and call not upon YHWH?'

Their throat is an open sepulcher. With their tongues, they have been acting deceitfully; the venom of asps is under their lips. Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.

They recognized not the workers of iniquity, who devour my people as one eats bread; and they called not upon the LORD.

14:5  There are they in great fear; for God is with the righteous generation.

There were they alarmed with fear, where there was no fear; for God is in the righteous generation.

Their feet are swift to shed blood. Grief and unhappiness are in their ways; and the way of peace, they have not known.

14:6  Ye would put to shame the counsel of the poor, but YHWH is his refuge.

Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the Lord is his hope.

There is no fear of God before their eyes.

14:7  Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When YHWH turneth the captivity of His people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

Who will bring the salvation of Israel out of Sion? when the Lord brings back the captivity of his people, let Jacob exult, and Israel be glad.

Who will grant the salvation of Israel from Zion? When the Lord turns away the captivity of his people, Jacob will exult, and Israel will rejoice.
