Composition

Heinrich Schütz est un compositeur allemand, représentatif du premier baroque allemand, aux côtés, notamment, de Samuel Scheidt et de Johann Hermann Schein. Il écrivit essentiellement des compositions religieuses, mais il est également l'auteur, en 1627, du premier opéra allemand : Dafne (dont la musique est perdue, mais dont subsiste le livret, dû au poète allemand Martin Opitz). Sa musique est profondément influencée par l'Italie dans sa polychoralité.
