1  A Prayer of David. Hear the right, O YHWH, attend unto my cry; give ear unto my prayer from lips without deceit.

1  HEAR, O Holy LORD, and consider my supplication; give ear unto my prayer that proceedeth not out of deceitful lips.

2  Let my judgment come forth from Thy presence; let Thine eyes behold equity.

3  Thou hast tried my heart, Thou hast visited it in the night; Thou hast tested me, and Thou findest not that I had a thought which should not pass my mouth.

3  Thou has proved mine heart; thou hast visited me by night; thou hast tried me as with fire, and unrighteousness has not been found in me: I am purposed that my mouth shall not speak amiss.

3  You have tested my heart and visited it by night. You have examined me by fire, and iniquity has not been found in me.

4  As for the doings of men, by the word of Thy lips I have kept me from the ways of the violent.

4  Therefore, may my mouth not speak the works of men. I have kept to difficult ways because of the words of your lips.

4  Through the conversation of my lips thou hast kept me from evil ways.

5  My steps have held fast to Thy paths, my feet have not slipped.

5  Perfect my steps in your paths, so that my footsteps may not be disturbed.

5  Thou hast strengthened my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not.

6  As for me, I call upon Thee, for Thou wilt answer me, O God; incline Thine ear unto me, hear my speech.

6  I have cried, for thou heardest me, O God: incline thine ear to me, and hearken to my words.

6  I have cried out because you, O God, have listened to me. Incline your ear to me and heed my words.

7  Make passing great Thy mercies, O Thou that savest by Thy right hand from assailants them that take refuge in Thee.

7  Shew the marvels of thy mercies, thou that savest them that hope in thee.

7  Make your mercies wonderful, for you save those who hope in you.

8  Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me in the shadow of Thy wings,

8  From those who resist your right hand, preserve me like the pupil of your eye. Protect me under the shadow of your wings,

9  From the wicked that oppress, my deadly enemies, that compass me about.

9  from the face of the ungodly that have afflicted me: mine enemies have compassed about my soul.

9  From the sinners who plunder me, from the enemies of my soul who surround me.

10  Their gross heart they have shut tight, with their mouth they speak proudly.

10  They have enclosed themselves with their own fat: their mouth has spoken pride.

10  Silence their mouth, for they have spoken vanity.

11  At our every step they have now encompassed us; they set their eyes to cast us down to the earth.

11  They have now cast me out and compassed me round about: they have set their eyes so as to bow them down to the ground.

11  They have praised me, and now have surrounded me; they have determined to bury me in the ground.

12  He is like a lion that is eager to tear in pieces, and like a young lion lurking in secret places.

12  They laid wait for me as a lion ready for prey, and like a lion’s whelp dwelling in secret places.

12  They have taken me, like a lion ready for the prey, and like a young lion dwelling in hiding.

13  Arise, O YHWH, confront him, cast him down; deliver my soul from the wicked, by Thy sword;

13  Arise, O Lord, prevent them, and cast them down: deliver my soul from the ungodly: draw thy sword,

13  Rise up, O Lord, arrive before him and displace him. Deliver my soul from the impious one: your spear from the enemies of your hand.

14  From men, by Thy hand, O YHWH, from men of the world, whose portion is in this life, and whose belly Thou fillest with Thy treasure; who have children in plenty, and leave their abundance to their babes.

14  because of the enemies of thine hand: O Lord, destroy them from the earth; scatter them in their life, though their belly has been filled with thy hidden treasures: they have been satisfied with uncleanness, and have left the remnant of their possessions to their babes.

15  As for me, I shall behold Thy face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness.

15  But I shall appear in righteousness before thy face: I shall be satisfied when thy glory appears.

15  But as for me, I will appear before your sight in justice. I will be satisfied when your glory appears.
