1 For the Leader. A Psalm of David. In YHWH have I taken refuge; how say ye to my soul: 'Flee thou! to your mountain, ye birds'?
title Unto the end. A Psalm of David.
1 I trust in the Lord. How can you say to my soul, “Sojourn to the mountain, like a sparrow.”
1 IN the LORD put I my trust; how say you to me, Flee as a bird to the mountains?
2 For, lo, the wicked bend the bow, they have made ready their arrow upon the string, that they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart.
2 For behold the sinners have bent their bow, they have prepared their arrows for the quiver, to shoot privily at the upright in heart.
3 When the foundations are destroyed, what hath the righteous wrought?
3 For they have pulled down what thou didst frame, but what has the righteous done?
3 For if they have destroyed the foundations which the LORD has prepared, what can the righteous do?
4 YHWH is in His holy temple, YHWH, His throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids try, the children of men.
4 The Lord is in his holy temple, as for the Lord, his throne is in heaven: his eyes look upon the poor, his eyelids try the sons of men.
5 YHWH trieth the righteous; but the wicked and him that loveth violence His soul hateth.
5 The Lord tries the righteous and the ungodly: and he that loves unrighteousness hates his own soul.
Ps10:5 The Lord questions the just and the impious. Yet he who loves iniquity, hates his own soul.
6 Upon the wicked He will cause to rain coals; fire and brimstone and burning wind shall be the portion of their cup.
6 He shall rain upon sinners snares, fire, and brimstone, and a stormy blast shall be the portion of their cup.
7 For YHWH is righteous, He loveth righteousness; the upright shall behold His face.
7 For the Lord is righteous, and loves righteousness; his face beholds uprightness.
Ps10:7 For the Lord is just, and he has chosen justice. His countenance has beheld equity.
12:1 Help, YHWH; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
title For the end, A Psalm of David, upon the eighth.
1 Save me, O Lord; for the godly man has failed; for truth is diminished from among the children of men.
1 SAVE, O LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for faith hath disappeared from the earth.
12:2 They speak falsehood every one with his neighbour; with flattering lip, and with a double heart, do they speak.
Ps11:2 They have been speaking emptiness, each one to his neighbor; they have been speaking with deceitful lips and a duplicitous heart.
12:3 May YHWH cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaketh proud things!
3 Let the Lord destroy all the deceitful lips, and the tongue that speaks great words
Ps11:3 May the Lord scatter all deceitful lips, along with the tongue that speaks malice.
12:4 Who have said: 'Our tongue will we make mighty; our lips are with us: who is lord over us?'
Ps11:4 They have said: “We will magnify our tongue; our lips belong to us. What is Lord to us?”
4 For they have said, With our tongue will we prevail: our lips are our own; who is lord over us?
12:5 'For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise', saith YHWH; 'I will set him in safety at whom they puff.'
5 Because of the misery of the poor, and because of the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the Lord, I will set them in safety; I will speak to them thereof openly.
5 Because of the oppression of the poor and the groans of the needy, now will I arise, says the LORD; and I will bring salvation openly.
12:6 The words of YHWH are pure words, as silver tried in a crucible on the earth, refined seven times.
6 The oracles of the Lord are pure oracles; as silver tried in the fire, proved in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Ps11:6 The eloquence of the Lord is pure eloquence, silver tested by fire, purged from the earth, refined seven times.
12:7 Thou wilt keep them, O YHWH; Thou wilt preserve us from this generation for ever.
7 Thou, O Lord, shalt keep us, and shalt preserve us, from this generation, and for ever.
Ps11:7 You, O Lord, will preserve us, and you will guard us from this generation into eternity.
12:8 The wicked walk on every side, when vileness is exalted among the sons of men.
13:1 How long, O YHWH, wilt Thou forget me for ever? How long wilt Thou hide Thy face from me?
title For the end, a Psalm of David.
1 How long, O Lord, wilt thou forget me? for ever? how long wilt thou turn away thy face from me?
1 Unto the end. A Psalm of David. How long, O Lord? Will you forget me until the end? How long will you turn your face away from me?
13:2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart by day? How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?
2 How long can I take counsel in my soul, sorrowing in my heart throughout the day?
3 How long will my enemy be exalted over me?
13:3 Behold Thou, and answer me, O YHWH my God; lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;
3 Look on me, hearken to me, O Lord my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep in death;
3 Consider and hear me, O LORD my God; lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep in death,
13:4 Lest mine enemy say: 'I have prevailed against him'; lest mine adversaries rejoice when I am moved.
4 lest at any time mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him: my persecutors will exult if ever I should be moved.
13:5 But as for me, in Thy mercy do I trust; my heart shall rejoice in Thy salvation.
5 But I have hoped in thy mercy; my heart shall exult in thy salvation.
5 But I have hoped in your mercy. My heart will exult in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, who assigns good things to me. And I will sing psalms to the name of the Lord Most High.
13:6 I will sing unto YHWH, because He hath dealt bountifully with me.
6 I will sing to the Lord who has dealt bountifully with me, and I will sing psalms to the name of the Lord most high.
14:1 For the Leader. A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart: 'There is no God'; they have dealt corruptly, they have done abominably; there is none that doeth good.
title For the end, Psalm of David.
1 The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They have corrupted themselves, and become abominable in their devices; there is none that does goodness, there is not even so much as one.
1 THE fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have been defiled by their own devices; there is none that does good.
14:2 YHWH looked forth from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any man of understanding, that did seek after God.
2 The Lord looked down from heaven upon the sons of men, to see if there were any that understood, or sought after God.
2 The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men, to see if there were any who were considering or seeking God.
14:3 They are all corrupt, they are together become impure; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
3 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become good for nothing, there is none that does good, no not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; their feet are swift to shed blood: destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace they have not known: there is no fear of God before their eyes.
3 They have all gone astray; together they have become useless. There is no one who does good; there is not even one.
14:4 'Shall not all the workers of iniquity know it, who eat up My people as they eat bread, and call not upon YHWH?'
4 Their throat is an open sepulcher. With their tongues, they have been acting deceitfully; the venom of asps is under their lips. Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.
4 They recognized not the workers of iniquity, who devour my people as one eats bread; and they called not upon the LORD.
14:5 There are they in great fear; for God is with the righteous generation.
5 There were they alarmed with fear, where there was no fear; for God is in the righteous generation.
5 Their feet are swift to shed blood. Grief and unhappiness are in their ways; and the way of peace, they have not known.
14:6 Ye would put to shame the counsel of the poor, but YHWH is his refuge.
6 Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the Lord is his hope.
6 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
14:7 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When YHWH turneth the captivity of His people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.
7 Who will bring the salvation of Israel out of Sion? when the Lord brings back the captivity of his people, let Jacob exult, and Israel be glad.
7 Who will grant the salvation of Israel from Zion? When the Lord turns away the captivity of his people, Jacob will exult, and Israel will rejoice.
