1  Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous; praise becomes the upright.

1  A Psalm of David. Exult in the Lord, you just ones; together praise the upright.

2  Give thanks unto YHWH with harp, sing praises unto Him with the psaltery of ten strings.

2  Praise the Lord on the harp; platy to him on a psaltery of ten strings.

2  Confess to the Lord with stringed instruments; sing psalms to him with the psaltery, the instrument of ten strings.

3  Sing unto Him a new song; play skilfully amid shouts of joy.

4  For the word of YHWH is upright; and all His work is done in faithfulness.

5  He loveth righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the lovingkindness of YHWH.

5  He loves mercy and judgement; the earth is full the mercy of the Lord.

6  By the word of YHWH were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.

6  By the word of the Lord, the heavens were established, and all their power, by the Spirit of his mouth

7  He gathereth the waters of the sea together as a heap; He layeth up the deeps in storehouses.

7  Who gathers the waters of the sea as in a bottle; who lays up the deeps in treasuries.

8  Let all the earth fear YHWH; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.

9  For He spoke, and it was; He commanded, and it stood.

10  YHWH bringeth the counsel of the nations to nought; He maketh the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.

10  The Lord frustrates the counsels of the nations; he brings to nought also the reasonings of the peoples, and brings to nought the counsels of princes.

11  The counsel of YHWH standeth for ever, the thoughts of His heart to all generations.

11  But the counsel of the Lord endures for ever, the thoughts of his heart from generation to generation.

12  Happy is the nation whose God is YHWH; the people whom He hath chosen for His own inheritance.

12  Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.

13  YHWH looketh from heaven; He beholdeth all the sons of men;

13  The Lord looks out of heaven; he beholds all the sons of men.

13  The Lord has looked down from heaven. He has seen all the sons of men.

14  From the place of His habitation He looketh intently upon all the inhabitants of the earth;

14  He looks from his prepared habitation on all the dwellers on the earth;

14  From his well-prepared dwelling place, he has gazed upon all who dwell on the earth.

15  He that fashioneth the hearts of them all, that considereth all their doings.

15  who fashioned their hearts alone; who understands all their works.

16  A king is not saved by the multitude of a host; a mighty man is not delivered by great strength.

16  The king is not saved by great power, nor will the giant be saved by his many powers.

17  A horse is a vain thing for safety; neither doth it afford escape by its great strength.

17  A horse is vain for safety; neither shall he be delivered by the greatness of his power.

17  The horse is false safety; for he will not be saved by the abundance of his powers.

18  Behold, the eye of YHWH is toward them that fear Him, toward them that wait for His mercy;

18  Behold, the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him and on those who hope in his mercy,

19  To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

19  so as to rescue their souls from death and to feed them during famine.

20  Our soul hath waited for YHWH; He is our help and our shield.

20  Our soul remains with the Lord. For he is our helper and protector.

21  For in Him doth our heart rejoice, because we have trusted in His holy name.

21  For our heart shall rejoice in him, and we have hoped in his holy name.

22  Let Thy mercy, O YHWH, be upon us, according as we have waited for Thee.

22  Let your mercy be upon us, O Lord, just as we have hoped in you.
