because the sadness within me is great, and there is a continuous sorrow in my heart.

For I could wish that I myself to be accursed from Christ on behalf of my brothers, my countrymen according to the flesh,

For I was desiring that I myself might be anathemized from Christ, for the sake of my brothers, who are my kinsmen according to the flesh.

For I have prayed that I myself might be accursed because of Christ for the sake of my brethren and my kinsmen according to the flesh,

That is, those who are the children of the flesh are not the children of God; but [it is ]the children of the promise that are regarded as descendants.

That is, it is not the children of the flesh that are children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned for a seed.

In other words, those who are the sons of God are not those who are sons of the flesh, but those who are sons of the Promise; these are considered to be the offspring.

For this is the word of promise: "At this time I will come and Sarah shall have a son."
