How beautiful are thy steps in sandals, O prince's daughter! The roundings of thy thighs are like the links of a chain, the work of the hands of a skilled workman.

Thy steps are beautiful in shoes, O daughter of the prince: the joints of thy thighs are like chains, the work of the craftsman.

Sg7:2  How beautiful are your footsteps in shoes, O daughter of a ruler! The joints of your thighs are like jewels, which have been fabricated by the hand of an artist.

Thy navel is like a round goblet, wherein no mingled wine is wanting; thy belly is like a heap of wheat set about with lilies.

Sg7:3  Your navel is a round bowl, never lacking in curvature. Your abdomen is like a bundle of wheat, surrounded with lilies.

Your navel is like a round goblet in which mingled wine is never lacking; your belly is like a heap of wheat set about with lilies.

Thy two breasts are like two fawns that are twins of a gazelle.

Sg7:4  Your two breasts are like two young twin does.

Thy neck is as a tower of ivory; thine eyes as the pools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bath-rabbim; thy nose is like the tower of Lebanon which looketh toward Damascus.

Sg7:5  Your neck is like a tower of ivory. Your eyes like the fish ponds at Heshbon, which are at the entrance to the daughter of the multitude. Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon, which looks out toward Damascus.

Thy head upon thee is like Carmel, and the hair of thy head like purple; the king is held captive in the tresses thereof.

Sg7:6  Your head is like Carmel, and the hairs of your head are like the purple of the king, bound into pleats.

Your head upon you is like Carmel, and the braiding of your hair is like royal purple bound with rows of stitching.

How fair and how pleasant art thou, O love, for delights!

How beautiful art thou, and how sweet art thou, my love!

Sg7:7  Most beloved one, how beautiful you are, and how graceful in delights!

This thy stature is like to a palm-tree, and thy breasts to clusters of grapes.

This is thy greatness in thy delights: thou wast made like a palm tree, and thy breasts to cluster.

Sg7:8  Your stature is comparable to the palm tree, and your breasts to clusters of grapes.

I said: 'I will climb up into the palm-tree, I will take hold of the branches thereof; and let thy breasts be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of thy countenance like apples;

I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of its high boughs: and now shall thy breasts be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of thy nose of apples;

Sg7:9  I said, I will ascend to the palm tree, and take hold of its fruit. And your breasts will be like clusters of grapes on the vine. And the fragrance of your mouth will be like apples.

And the roof of thy mouth like the best wine, that glideth down smoothly for my beloved, moving gently the lips of those that are asleep.'

and thy throat as good wine, going well with my kinsman, suiting my lips and teeth.

Sg7:10  Your throat is like the finest wine: wine worthy for my beloved to drink, and for his lips and teeth to contemplate.

10  I am my beloved's, and his desire is toward me.

Sg7:11  I am for my beloved, and his turning is to me.

11  Come, my beloved, let us go forth into the field; let us lodge in the villages.

Sg7:12  Approach, my beloved. Let us go out into the field; let us linger in the villages.

12  Let us get up early to the vineyards; let us see whether the vine hath budded, whether the vine- blossom be opened, and the pomegranates be in flower; there will I give thee my love.

12  Let us go early into the vineyards; let us see if the vine has flowered, if the blossoms have appeared, if the pomegranates have blossomed; there will I give thee my breasts.

Sg7:13  The mandrakes yield their fragrance. At our gates is every fruit. The new and the old, my beloved, I have kept for you.

M G S
V

13  The mandrakes give forth fragrance, and at our doors are all manner of precious fruits, new and old, which I have laid up for thee, O my beloved.

Sg8:1  Bride to Groom: "Who will give you to me as my brother, feeding from the breasts of my mother, so that I may discover you outside, and may kiss you, and so that now no one may despise me?"

M G

S

8:1  Oh that thou wert as my brother, that sucked the breasts of my mother! When I should find thee without, I would kiss thee; yea, and none would despise me.

Sg8:2  I will take hold of you and lead you into my mother’s house. There you will teach me, and I will give you a cup of spiced wine, and of new wine from my pomegranates.

WHO shall give you to me for my brother that sucked the breasts of my mother? When I should find you in the street, I would kiss you; yea, I should not be despised.

M G S
V

8:2  I would lead thee, and bring thee into my mother's house, that thou mightest instruct me; I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine, of the juice of my pomegranate.

Sg8:3  His left hand is under my head, and his right hand shall embrace me.

8:3  His left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.

Sg8:4  I bind you by oath, O daughters of Jerusalem, not to disturb or awaken the beloved, until she wills.

M S
G
V

8:4  'I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem: Why should ye awaken, or stir up love, until it please?'

I have charged you, ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the virtues of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until he please.

Sg8:5  Who is she, who ascends from the desert, flowing with delights, leaning upon her beloved?

M G S
V

8:5  Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? Under the apple-tree I awakened thee; there thy mother was in travail with thee; there was she in travail and brought thee forth.

Sg8:6  Under the apple tree, I awakened you. There your mother was corrupted. There she who bore you was violated.

8:6  Set me as a seal upon thy heart, as a seal upon thine arm; for love is strong as death, jealousy is cruel as the grave; the flashes thereof are flashes of fire, a very flame of YHWH.

Sg8:7  Set me like a seal upon your heart, like a seal upon your arm. For love is strong, like death, and envy is enduring, like hell: their lamps are made of fire and flames.

M S

8:7  Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it; if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, he would utterly be contemned.

Much water will not be able to quench love, and rivers shall not drown it; if a man would give all his substance for love, men would utterly despise it.

Sg8:8  A multitude of waters cannot extinguish love, nor can a river overwhelm it. If a man were to give all the substance of his house in exchange for love, he would despise it as nothing.

M S

8:8  We have a little sister, and she hath no breasts; what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for?

Our sister is little, and has no breasts; what shall we do for our sister, in the day wherein she shall be spoken for?

M G S

8:9  If she be a wall, we will build upon her a turret of silver; and if she be a door, we will enclose her with boards of cedar.

Sg8:10  If she is a wall, let us build a rampart of silver upon it. If she is a door, let us join it together with boards of cedar.

M G V S

8:10  I am a wall, and my breasts like the towers thereof; then was I in his eyes as one that found peace.

M G S

8:11  Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon; he gave over the vineyard unto keepers; every one for the fruit thereof brought in a thousand pieces of silver.

Sg8:12  The peaceful one had a vineyard, in that which held the peoples. He handed it on to the caretakers; a man brought, in exchange for its fruit, a thousand pieces of silver.

8:12  My vineyard, which is mine, is before me; thou, O Solomon, shalt have the thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.

Sg8:13  My vineyard is before me. The thousand is for your peacefulness, and two hundred is for those who care for its fruit.

8:13  Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken for thy voice: 'Cause me to hear it.'

Sg8:14  Flee away, my beloved, and become like the doe and the young stag upon the mountains of aromatic plants.

13  Those who sit in the gardens and listen to your voice, have reported your words to me.

M S
G

8:14  Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a gazelle or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices.

14  Away, my kinsman, and be like a doe or a fawn on the mountains of spices.
