1 Pursue love, and desire the spiritual [gifts], but especially that you may prophesy.
1 Follow after love; yet desire earnestly spiritual [gifts], but rather that ye may prophesy.
1 Pursue charity. Be zealous for spiritual things, but only so that you may prophesy.
2 For he who speaks in an [unknown] tongue speaks not to men, but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
2 For he that speaketh in a tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God; for no man understandeth; but in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
2 For whoever speaks in tongues, speaks not to men, but to God. For no one understands. Yet by the Spirit, he speaks mysteries.
3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort.
3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men edification, and exhortation, and consolation.
3 But whoever prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.
4 He who speaks in an [unknown] tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
4 He that speaketh in a tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
4 Whoever speaks in tongues edifies himself. But whoever prophesies edifies the Church.
5 Now I wish you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you should prophesy; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified.
5 Now I would have you all speak with tongues, but rather that ye should prophesy: and greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
5 I would that you all spoke various tongues, but I would rather that you prophesied: for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks various tongues, unless he interpret; however, if he interpret it, he edifies the church.
6 But now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, what shall I profit you unless I speak to you either in a revelation, or in knowledge, or in a prophesy, or in doctrine?
6 Now, my brethren, if I should come to you and speak in diverse tongues, what would I profit you, except I speak to you either by means of revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying or by teaching?
6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
7 Likewise the lifeless things, when they make a sound, whether flute or harp, unless they make a distinction in the tones, how will it be known what is being played on the flute, or what is being played on the harp?
7 Even things without life, giving a voice, whether pipe or harp, if they give not a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
7 Even those things that are without a soul can make sounds, whether it is a wind or a stringed instrument. But unless they present a distinction within the sounds, how will it be known which is from the pipe and which is from the string?
8 For if the trumpet gives an indistinct sound, who will prepare for battle?
8 For example, if the trumpet made an uncertain sound, who would prepare himself for battle?
9 So also you, [if you] do not give a clear word by the tongue, how will it be known what is being spoken? For you will be speaking into the air.
9 So it is with you also, for unless you utter with the tongue in plain speech, how will it be known what is said? For then you would be speaking into the air.
9 Even so you, except you utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what you say? you shall speak as into the air.
10 There are, perhaps, so many kinds of sounds in the world, and none of them without meaning.
10 Consider that there are so many different kinds of languages in this world, and yet none is without a voice.
10 For, behold, there are many kinds of speech in the world, yet none of them are without expression.
11 Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the sound, I shall be as a foreigner to the [one ]speaking, and the [one] speaking [shall be] as a foreigner to me.
11 If then I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be to him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh will be a barbarian unto me.
11 So if I do not understand the utterance, I shall be as a barbarian to the speaker, and the speaker shall be as a barbarian to me.
12 So also you, since you are zealous of spiritual [gifts], seek that you may abound to the edification of the church.
12 So it is with you also. And since you are zealous for what is spiritual, seek the edification of the Church, so that you may abound.
12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.
13 Therefore let he that speaks in an [unknown] tongue pray that he may interpret.
13 For this reason, too, whoever speaks in tongues, let him pray for the interpretation.
13 Thus he who speaks in an unknown tongue, pray that he may interpret it.
14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
14 So, if I pray in tongues, my spirit prays, but my mind is without fruit.
15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the mind. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the mind.
15 What is next? I should pray with the spirit, and also pray with the mind. I should sing psalms with the spirit, and also recite psalms with the mind.
15 What then shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, and I will pray with my understanding also: I will sing with my spirit, and I will sing with my understanding also.
16 Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say "Amen"when you give thanks, since he does not know what you are saying?
16 Else if thou bless with the spirit, how shall he that filleth the place of the unlearned say the Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he knoweth not what thou sayest?
17 For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified.
17 In this case, certainly, you give thanks well, but the other person is not edified.
17 For indeed you bless well, but your fellow man is not enlightened.
18 I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all;
19 but in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, in order that I may instruct others, rather than ten thousand words in an [unknown] tongue.
19 howbeit in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
19 But in the Church, I prefer to speak five words from my mind, so that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in tongues.
20 Brothers, do not be children in your understanding; rather, in malice be children, but in understanding be men.
20 Brethren, be not children in mind: yet in malice be ye babes, but in mind be men.
20 My brethren, be not like infants in your intelligence, only to evil things be like children, but in your understanding be mature.
21 In the law it is written: "With men of other tongues and by strange lips I will speak to this people; and yet not even in this way will they hear Me,"says YHWH.
21 It is written in the law: “I will speak to this people with other tongues and other lips, and even so, they will not heed me, says the Lord.”
22 So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.
23 If then the whole church comes together at the same place, and all speak in tongues, and there come in [those that are] unlearned or unbelievers, will they not say that you are mad?
23 If therefore the whole church be assembled together and all speak with tongues, and there come in men unlearned or unbelieving, will they not say that ye are mad?
23 If then, the entire Church were to gather together as one, and if all were to speak in tongues, and then ignorant or unbelieving persons were to enter, would they not say that you were insane?
24 But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an unlearned person comes in, he is reproved by all, he is discerned by all.
24 But if everyone prophesies, and one who is ignorant or unbelieving enters, he may be convinced by it all, because he understands it all.
25 And so the secrets of his heart become clear; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God, reporting that God is truly among you!
25 the secrets of his heart are made manifest; and so he will fall down on his face and worship God, declaring that God is among you indeed.
26 What is it then, brothers? Whenever you come together, each of you has a song, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.
26 Therefore I say to you, my brethren, when you gather together, whoever among you has a psalm to sing, has a doctrine, has a revelation, has the gift of tongues, or the gift of interpretation, let everything be done for edification.
27 If anyone speaks in an [unknown] tongue, [let it be ]by two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret.
27 And if any man should speak in an unknown tongue, let two or at most three speak, and speak one by one; and let one interpret.
28 But if there is no interpreter, let him be silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God.
28 But if there is no one to interpret, let him who speaks in an unknown tongue keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God.
29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let others discriminate.
29 And let the prophets speak [by] two or three, and let the others discern.
29 Let the prophets speak two or three in turn, and let the others discern what is said.
30 But if [something] is revealed to another who sits by, let the first be silent.
30 And if anything is revealed to another who is seated, let the first speaker hold his peace.
30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
31 For you can all prophesy [one] by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged.
31 For you are all able to prophesy one at a time, so that all may learn and all may be encouraged.
31 For you may all prophesy one by one, so that every one may learn, and every one be comforted.
32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
33 For God is not [the author] of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,
33 And God is not of dissension, but of peace, just as I also teach in all the churches of the saints.
34 let your women be silent in the churches, for it is not permitted for them to speak, but to be in subjection, just as the law also says.
34 let the women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as also saith the law.
34 Women should be silent in the churches. For it is not permitted for them to speak; but instead, they should be subordinate, as the law also says.
35 And if they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.
36 Or did the word of God go forth from you? Or did it come to you only?
36 What? was it from you that the word of God went forth? or came it unto you alone?
36 So now, did the Word of God proceed from you? Or was it sent to you alone?
37 If anyone thinks that he is a prophet, or [is] spiritual[,] let him recognize that the things which I am writing to you are the commandments of YHWH.
37 If any man thinketh himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him take knowledge of the things which I write unto you, that they are the commandment of the Lord.
37 If anyone seems to be a prophet or a spiritual person, he should understand these things which I am writing to you, that these things are the commandments of the Lord.
38 But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.
38 If anyone does not recognize these things, he should not be recognized.
39 Therefore, brothers, seek to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues.
39 Wherefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
39 And so, brothers, be zealous to prophesy, and do not prohibit speaking in tongues.
40 Let all things be done properly and according to order.
40 But let all things be done decently and in order.
40 But let everything be done respectfully and according to proper order.
15:1 Now I made known to you, brothers, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which you also stand,
1 MOREOVER, my brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, and which you have accepted, and for which you have stood firm;
15:2 through which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you-unless you believed in vain.
2 By the Gospel, too, you are being saved, if you hold to the understanding that I preached to you, lest you believe in vain.
2 By which also you are saved if you keep in remembrance that very word which I have preached to you, and if your conversion has not been in vain.
15:3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
3 For I handed on to you, first of all, what I also received: that Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures;
15:4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
15:5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve.
15:6 Thereafter He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, of whom the majority remain until now, but some have fallen asleep.
6 Next he was seen by more than five hundred brothers at one time, many of whom remain, even to the present time, although some have fallen asleep.
6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred brethren at once; of whom a great many are still living though some are dead.
15:7 Thereafter He appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
7 Next, he was seen by James, then by all the Apostles.
7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
15:8 And last of all, as of [one] born out of due time, He appeared to me also.
8 And last of all he appeared to me also, ignorant and imperfectly developed as I was.
15:9 For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than them all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
10 But, by the grace of God, I am what I am. And his grace in me has not been empty, since I have labored more abundantly than all of them. Yet it is not I, but the grace of God within me.
15:11 Therefore, whether it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.
11 For whether it is I or they: so we preach, and so you have believed.
15:12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
15:13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised.
13 For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not risen.
15:14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain and your faith also is vain!
15:15 And we are found [to be ]false witnesses of God, because we bore witness concerning God, that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise-if in fact the dead are not raised.
15 Then, too, we would be found to be false witnesses of God, because we would have given testimony against God, saying that he had raised up Christ, when he had not raised him up, if, indeed, the dead do not rise again.
15:16 For if the dead are not raised, [then] neither has Christ been raised.
15:17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins!
17 But if Christ has not risen, then your faith is vain; for you would still be in your sins.
15:18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
18 And also, then, those who have died in Christ have perished.
15:19 If in this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are to be pitied above all men.
19 If we have hope in Christ for this life only, then we are more miserable than all men.
15:20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, [and] has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
20 But now hath Christ been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of them that are asleep.
20 But now we know Christ is risen from the dead and become the first-fruits of those who have died.
15:21 For since by a man [came] death, also by a Man came the resurrection of the dead.
21 For certainly, death came through a man. And so, the resurrection of the dead came through a man
15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all will be made alive.
22 And just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be brought to life,
15:23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then those who belong to Christ at His coming.
23 but each one in his proper order: Christ, as the first-fruits, and next, those who are of Christ, who have believed in his advent.
23 But every man in his own order: Christ the first-fruits; afterward they who belong to Christ at his coming.
15:24 Then [will be] the end, when He hands over the kingdom to God, even the Father, when He abolishes every ruler and every authority and power.
24 Then [cometh] the end, when he shall deliver up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have abolished all rule and all authority and power.
24 Afterwards is the end, when he will have handed over the kingdom to God the Father, when he will have emptied all principality, and authority, and power.
15:25 For He must reign until He puts all His enemies under His feet.
25 For it is necessary for him to reign, until he has set all his enemies under his feet.
15:26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death.
26 Lastly, the enemy called death shall be destroyed. For he has subjected all things under his feet. And although he says,
26 And the last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
15:27 For "He has subjected all things under His feet."But when He says that "all things have been subjected,"it is evident that [this is] except for Him who subjected all things to Him.
27 “All things have been subjected to him,” without doubt he does not include the One who has subjected all things to him.
27 For he has put all things under his feet. But when he said all things are put under him, it is clear that he, who put all things under him, is excepted.
15:28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then also the Son Himself will be subjected to Him who subjected all things to Him, in order that God may be all in all.
28 And when all things have been subjected unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subjected to him that did subject all things unto him, that God may be all in all.
15:29 Otherwise, what will they do who are being baptized for the dead, if the dead are not raised at all? Why are they also baptized for the dead?
29 Else what shall they do that are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them?
15:30 And why are we also in danger every hour?
30 Why do we also stand in jeopardy every hour?
30 Why also do we endure trials every hour?
15:31 I [affirm], by my boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
31 I protest by that glorifying in you, brethren, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
31 Daily I die, by means of your boasting, brothers: you whom I have in Christ Jesus our Lord.
15:32 If, in the manner of men, I fought with beasts at Ephesus, what is the benefit to me? If the dead are not raised, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!"
15:33 Do not be deceived: "Evil associations corrupt good habits."
33 Be not deceived: Evil companionships corrupt good morals.
33 Do not be led astray. Evil communication corrupts good morals.
15:34 Awake to righteousness, and do not sin! For some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.
34 Be vigilant, you just ones, and do not be willing to sin. For certain persons have an ignorance of God. I say this to you with respect.
34 Awake your hearts to righteousness and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I say this to your shame.
15:35 But someone will say, "How are the dead raised? And with what sort of body do they come?"
15:36 Fool, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies.
36 Thou foolish one, that which thou thyself sowest is not quickened except it die
36 How foolish! What you sow cannot be brought back to life, unless it first dies.
15:37 And what you sow, you do not sow that body that will be, but a bare grain-perhaps wheat or some other [grains].
37 and that which thou sowest, thou sowest not the body that shall be, but a bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other kind;
15:38 But God gives to it a body just as He desired, and to each of the seeds its own body.
38 For God gives it a body according to his will, and according to each seed’s proper body.
15:39 All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is a different [kind] [of flesh] for men, and another flesh for beasts, another for fish, and another for birds.
39 Not all flesh is the same flesh. But one is indeed of men, another truly is of beasts, another is of birds, and another is of fish.
15:40 And there[ are ]heavenly bodies, and earthly bodies; but the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another.
40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the [glory] of the terrestrial is another.
40 Also, there are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies. But while the one, certainly, has the glory of heaven, the other has the glory of earth.
15:41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from [another] star in glory.
41 One has the brightness of the sun, another the brightness of the moon, and another the brightness of the stars. For even star differs from star in brightness.
15:42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.
42 So it is also with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown in corruption shall rise to incorruption.
15:43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.
43 What is sown in dishonor shall rise to glory. What is sown in weakness shall rise to power.
15:44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
44 What is sown with an animal body shall rise with a spiritual body. If there is an animal body, there is also a spiritual one.
15:45 Thus also it is written, "The first man Adam [became] a living being;"the last Adam [became] a life-giving spirit.
45 So also it is written, The first man Adam became a living soul. The last Adam [became] a life-giving spirit.
45 Just as it was written that the first man, Adam, was made with a living soul, so shall the last Adam be made with a spirit brought back to life.
15:46 However, that which is spiritual is not first, but that which is natural, then that which is spiritual.
46 So what is, at first, not spiritual, but animal, next becomes spiritual.
46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
15:47 The first man [was ]from earth, made of dust; the second Man is YHWH from heaven.
47 The first man, being earthly, was of the earth; the second man, being heavenly, will be of heaven.
15:48 Like the [man] made of dust, so also [are] those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly [Man], so also [are ]those [who are ]heavenly.
48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
48 Such things as are like the earth are earthly; and such things as are like the heavens are heavenly.
15:49 And just as we have borne the image of the [man] made of dust, let us also bear the image of the heavenly [Man].
49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
49 And so, just as we have carried the image of what is earthly, let us also carry the image of what is heavenly.
15:50 Now this I say, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor can corruption inherit incorruption.
50 Now I say this, brothers, because flesh and blood is not able to possess the kingdom of God; neither will what is corrupt possess what is incorrupt.
15:51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed-
15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
53 Thus, it is necessary for this corruptibility to be clothed with incorruptibility, and for this mortality to be clothed with immortality.
15:54 So when this corruptible should put on incorruption, and this mortal should put on immortality, then will come to pass the word which was written: "Death was swallowed up in victory."
54 But when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
54 And when this mortality has been clothed with immortality, then the word that was written shall occur: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
15:55 "O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?"
55 O death, where is thy victory? O death, where is thy sting?
15:56 Now the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
15:57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
15:58 So then, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of YHWH, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
58 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not vain in the Lord.
58 And so, my beloved brothers, be steadfast and unmovable, abounding always in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not useless in the Lord.
