Therefore, set aside all malice and all deceitfulness, as well as falseness and envy and every detraction.

as newborn babes, desire the genuine milk of the word, that by it you may grow,

Like newborn infants, desire the milk of reasonableness without guile, so that by this you may increase unto salvation,

And become like newborn babes, and long for the word, as for pure and spiritual milk, that you may grow to salvation by it

For it is also contained in the Scripture, "Behold, I place in Zion a chief cornerstone, chosen, precious, and he who believes on Him shall by no means be put to shame."

Because of this, Scripture asserts: “Behold, I am setting in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious. And whoever will have believed in him will not be confounded.”

Therefore, to you who believe, [He] is precious; but to those who are disobedient, "The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone,"

It is to you who believe, therefore, that this honour is given; but to those who are disobedient, he is a stumbling stone and a stone of trouble.

Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

and "a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense."They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.

and a stone of offense, and a rock of scandal, to those who are offended by the Word; neither do they believe, though they also have been built upon him.

And they stumble over it because they are disobedient to the word for which they were appointed.

12  having your manner of life noble among the Gentiles, so that, whenever they speak against you as evildoers, when they observe the good works, they may glorify God in the day of visitation.

12  Keep your behavior among the Gentiles to what is good, so that, when they slander you as if you were evildoers, they may, by the good works that are seen in you, glorify God on the day of visitation.

12  And let your conduct be good before all men, so that those who speak evil words against you, may see your good works and glorify God at the day of trial.

16  as free, yet not using freedom as a cover for wickedness, but as bondservants of God.

16  in an open manner, and not as if cloaking malice with liberty, but like servants of God.

19  For this is admirable, if because of conscience toward God someone endures pain, suffering unjustly.

20  For what glory [is it,] if when you sin and are beaten, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer [for it,] you endure, this is admirable before God.

20  For what glory is it, if, when ye sin, and are buffeted [for it], ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer [for it], ye shall take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

20  What praise have they who endure suffering because of their faults? But when you do good, and are made to suffer, and you take it patiently, then your glory is greater with God.

23  who, being verbally abused, did not return verbal insults, when [He] suffered, [He] did not threaten, but committed [Himself] to Him who judges righteously;

23  who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered threatened not; but committed [himself] to him that judgeth righteously

23  And when evil was spoken against him, he did not speak evil. When he suffered, he did not threaten. Then he handed himself over to him who judged him unjustly.

24  who Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, in order that having died to sins, we might live unto righteousness-by whose stripes you were healed.
