But if a certain widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety to their own household and to make repayment to their parents; for this is acceptable before God.

And if any of the widows have children, or grandchildren, let them know that aid should be first sought from those of their own household so that the children have the opportunity to repay their obligations to their parents: for this is acceptable before God.

Now she who is really a widow and having been left alone, has set her hope on God, and continues in supplications and prayers night and day.

Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, hath her hope set on God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.

But she who is truly a widow and is destitute, let her hope in God, and let her be urgent in supplications and prayers, night and day.

Let a widow be enrolled having become not less than sixty years, [the] wife of one man,

When you select a worthy widow to help, select therefore one who is not less than three score years, who has been the wife of one man only,

Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,

10  having a reputation for good works, if she has brought up children, if she has lodged strangers, if she has washed the saints' feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work.

10  who has testimony of her good works: whether she has educated children, or has provided hospitality, or has washed the feet of the saints, or has ministered to those suffering tribulation, or has pursued any kind of good work.

11  But refuse [to enroll] the younger widows; for whenever they grow lustful against Christ, they desire to marry,

13  And besides they learn to be idle, going around from house to house, and not only idle but also gossipy and busybodies, speaking things [which are] not proper.

13  And being at the same time also idle, they learn to go from house to house, being not only idle, but also talkative and curious, speaking of things which do not concern them.

14  Therefore I desire that the younger widows to marry, to bear children, to manage the house, to give no opportunity to the adversary because of reproach.

14  I would, therefore, that the younger widows marry, bear children, manage their own households, and give no occasion to the adversary for disdain.

15  For already some have turned aside after Satan.

16  If any believing man or believing woman has widows, let [that one] relieve them, and do not let the church be burdened, that it may relieve those who are really widows.

16  If any among the faithful have widows, let him minister to them and not burden the Church, so that there may be enough for those who are true widows.

16  If any believers, either man or woman, have widows in their families, let them feed them, and do not let them be a burden on the congregation, so that the church may have enough for those who are widows indeed.

17  Let the elders having ruled well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine.

18  For Scripture says: “You shall not muzzle an ox as it is treading out the grain,” and, “The worker is worthy of his pay.”

22  Lay hands on no one hastily, nor share in [the] sins of others; keep yourself pure.

22  You should not be quick to impose hands on anyone, nor should you take part in the sins of outsiders. Keep yourself chaste.

24  There are men whose crimes are well known and the notoriety of them precedes them to the house of judgment, and there are others, the notoriety of whose crimes follows after them.

25  Likewise also the good works [of some] are evident beforehand, and those which are otherwise cannot be hidden.

25  In like manner also there are good works that are evident; and such as are otherwise cannot be hid.

6:1  Let as many as are slaves under a yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and His doctrine may not be blasphemed.

Whoever are servants under the yoke, let them consider their masters to be worthy of every honor, lest the name and doctrine of the Lord be blasphemed.

6:2  And those having believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brothers, but rather let them serve as slaves, because those receiving the good service are believing and beloved. Teach and exhort these things.

6:3  If anyone teaches differently and does not consent to sound words, even those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness,

If there is any man who teaches a different doctrine, and does not offer the wholesome words of our LORD Jesus Christ, and the doctrine of reverence to God;

6:4  he is puffed up, understanding nothing, but [is] morbidly concerned with disputes and word battles, from which come envy, strife, slanders, evil suspicions,

then he is arrogant, knowing nothing, yet languishing amid the questions and quarrels of words. From these arise envy, contention, blasphemy, evil suspicions

He is proud, knowing nothing, and dotes on an argument and quarrels on the use of a word and this is the cause of envy and controversy and blasphemy and evil premeditation,

6:5  constant wranglings of men of corrupt minds and having been deprived of the truth, supposing that godliness is a means of profit. Withdraw from such [people].

6:6  But godliness with contentment is great gain.

But piety with sufficiency is great gain.

But our gain is greater contentment, for it is the worship of God.

6:7  For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain that neither can we carry anything out!

6:8  But having food and clothing, with these things we shall be content.

Therefore, let us be satisfied with food and clothing;

6:9  But those desiring to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and many senseless and harmful lusts which sink men into destruction and perdition.

But they that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition.

For those who want to become rich fall into temptation and into the snare of the devil and into many useless and harmful desires, which submerge men in destruction and in perdition.

6:10  For the love of money is[ the] root of all evil, of which some [by] aspiring have strayed away from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

10  For desire is the root of all evils. Some persons, hungering in this way, have strayed from the faith and have entangled themselves in many sorrows.

6:11  You however, O man of God, flee these things. But pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness.

11  But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

11  But you, O man of God, flee from these things, and truly pursue justice, piety, faith, charity, patience, meekness.

13  I charge you, in the sight of God, who enlivens all things, and in the sight of Christ Jesus, who gave the testimony of a good profession under Pontius Pilate,

13  I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;

6:14  that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,

14  to observe the commandment, immaculately, irreproachably, unto the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15  For at the proper time, he shall reveal the blessed and only Power, the King of kings and the Lord of lords,

6:16  who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or is able to see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.

16  who alone holds immortality, and who inhabits the inaccessible light, whom no man has seen, nor even is able to see, to whom is honor and everlasting dominion. Amen.

6:17  Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to put their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but in the living God, who provides all things richly for us to enjoy,

17  Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

6:19  storing up for yourselves a good foundation for the future, that they may lay hold of eternal life.

6:20  O Timothy! Guard that which was committed to your trust, turning away from the profane and empty babblings and opposing views of what is falsely called "knowledge,"

6:21  which some, by professing [expertise,] missed the mark concerning the faith. Grace be with you. Amen.
