2 Chronicles 24:0; 4:1–14:15

M S
G
V

Moreover he made an altar of brass, twenty cubits the length thereof, and twenty cubits the breadth thereof, and ten cubits the height thereof.

And he made a brazen altar, the length of it twenty cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits, and the height ten cubits.

Also, he made a brass altar of twenty cubits in length, and of twenty cubits in width, and of ten cubits in height,

M V S
G

Also he made the molten sea of ten cubits from brim to brim, round in compass, and the height thereof was five cubits; and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.

And he made the molten sea, in diameter ten cubits, entirely round, and the height of it five cubits, and the circumference thirty cubits.

M G V
S

And under it was the similitude of oxen, which did compass it round about, for ten cubits, compassing the sea round about. The oxen were in two rows, cast when it was cast.

And it stood upon twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing south, three facing west, and three facing east; and the sea was set above them, and their hinder parts were inward.

M V
G
S

It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east; and the sea was set upon them above, and all their hinder parts were inward.

wherein they made them twelve calves, —three looking northwards, and three westwards, and three southwards, and three eastwards: and the sea was upon them above, and their hinder parts were inward.

And the thickness of it was a handbreadth, and its brim was round like the brim of a cup, very beautiful.

M G V S

And it was a handbreadth thick; and the brim thereof was wrought like the brim of a cup, like the flower of a lily: it received and held three thousand baths.

M G
V
S

He made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them; such things as belonged to the burnt-offering they washed in them; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.

Also, he made ten basins. And he placed five on the right, and five on the left, so that they might wash in them all the things that they were to offer as holocausts. But the priests were to be washed in the sea.

And he made ten lavers of brass, and put five on the right hand and five on the left, so that the priests might wash their hands and their feet in them.

M G S
V

And he made the ten candlesticks of gold according to the ordinance concerning them; and he set them in the temple, five on the right hand, and five on the left.

Then he also made ten gold lampstands, according to the form by which they had been ordered to be made. And he set them in the temple, five on the right, and five on the left.

M S
G
V

He made also ten tables, and placed them in the temple, five on the right side, and five on the left. And he made a hundred basins of gold.

And he made ten tables, and put them in the temple, five on the right hand, and five on the left: and he made a hundred golden bowls.

Moreover, there were also ten tables. And he placed them in the temple, five on the right, and five on the left. Also, there were one hundred gold bowls.

Furthermore he made the court of the priests, and the great court, and doors for the court, and overlaid the doors of them with brass.

Also he made the priests’ court, and the great court, and doors to the court, and their panels were overlaid with brass.

Then too, he made the court of the priests, and a great hall, and doors in the hall, which he covered with brass.

M G S

10  And he set the sea on the right side of the house eastward, toward the south.

10  Now he placed the sea on the right side, facing the east, toward the south.

11  And Huram made the pots, and the shovels, and the basins. So Huram made an end of doing the work that he wrought for king Solomon in the house of God

11  And Chiram made the fleshhooks, and the fire-pans, and the grate of the altar, and all its instruments: and Chiram finished doing all the work which he wrought for king Solomon in the house of God

11  Then Hiram made cooking pots and hooks and bowls. And he completed every work of the king in the house of God,

12  the two pillars, and the bowls, and the two capitals which were on the top of the pillars; and the two networks to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the top of the pillars;

12  two pillars, and upon them an embossed work for the chapiters on the heads of the two pillars, and two nets to cover the heads of the chapiters which are on the heads of the pillars;

12  that is, the two pillars, and the crossbeams, and the heads, and something like a little net, which would cover the heads above the crossbeams,

M
G S

13  and the four hundred pomegranates for the two networks: two rows of pomegranates for each network, to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were upon the top of the pillars.

13  and four hundred golden bells for the two nets, and two rows of pomegranates in each net, to cover the two embossed rims of the chapiters which are upon the pillars.

13  and also four hundred pomegranates, and two little nets, so that two rows of pomegranates were joined to each net, which would cover the crossbeams and the heads of the pillars.

M S

14  He made also the bases, and the lavers made he upon the bases;

14  And he made the ten bases, and he made the lavers upon the bases;

14  He also made bases; and basins that he placed upon the bases;

M V S

15  one sea, and the twelve oxen under it.

15  and the one sea, and the twelve calves under it;

M S

16  The pots also, and the shovels, and the flesh-hooks, and all the vessels thereof, did Huram his master craftsman make for king Solomon for the house of YHWH of bright brass.

16  and the foot-baths, and the buckets, and the caldrons, and the flesh-hooks, and all their furniture (which Chiram made, and brought to king Solomon in the house of the Lord) of pure brass.

16  and cooking pots and hooks and bowls. Hiram, his father, made all the vessels for Solomon, in the house of the Lord, from the purest brass.

17  In the plain of the Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zeredah.

17  In the country round about Jordan the king cast them, in the clay ground in the house of Socchoth, and between that and Saredatha.

17  The king cast these in the region near the Jordan, in the clay soil between Succoth and Zeredah.

18  Thus Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance; for the weight of the brass could not be found out.

18  So Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance, for the quantity of brass failed not.

18  Now the multitude of the vessels was innumerable, so much so that the weight of the brass was unknown.

M G V S

19  And Solomon made all the vessels that were in the house of God, the golden altar also, and the tables whereon was the showbread;

M V
G
S

20  and the candlesticks with their lamps, that they should burn according to the ordinance before the Sanctuary, of pure gold;

20  also the candlesticks, and the lamps to give light according to the pattern, and in front of the oracle, of pure gold.

20  Moreover the candlesticks with their lamps, that they should burn after the manner before the oracle, of pure gold;

M S
G
V

21  and the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs, of gold, and that perfect gold;

21  And their snuffers, and their lamps were made, and he made the bowls, and the censers, and the fire-pans, of pure gold.

21  and certain flowers, and lamps, and gold tongs. All these were made from the purest gold.

22  and the snuffers, and the basins, and the pans, and the fire-pans, of pure gold. And as for the entry of the house, the inner doors thereof for the most holy place, and the doors of the house, that is, of the temple, were of gold.

22  And there was the inner door of the house opening into the holy of holies, and he made the inner doors of the temple of gold. So all the work which Solomon wrought for the house of the Lord was finished.

22  Also, the vessels for the perfumes, and the censers, and the bowls, and the little mortars were from the purest gold. And he engraved the doors of the inner temple, that is, for the Holy of Holies. And the doors of the outer temple were of gold. And so, every work was completed that Solomon made in the house of the Lord.

5:1  Thus all the work that Solomon wrought for the house of YHWH was finished. And Solomon brought in the things that David his father had hallowed; even the silver, and the gold, and all the vessels, and put them in the treasuries of the house of God.

And Solomon brought in the holy things of his father David, the silver, and the gold, and the other vessels, and put them in the treasury of the house of the Lord.

Then Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had vowed, the silver, and the gold, and all the vessels, which he placed in the treasuries of the house of God.

M G S
V

5:2  Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the fathers' houses of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of YHWH out of the city of David, which is Zion.

After this, he gathered together those greater by birth of Israel, and all the leaders of the tribes, and the heads of the families, from the sons of Israel, to Jerusalem, so that they might bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the City of David, which is Zion.

M G

5:3  And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto the king at the feast, which was in the seventh month.

And so, all the men of Israel went to the king, on the solemn day of the seventh month.

Wherefore all the men of Israel assembled themselves to King Solomon at Jerusalem in the feast of tabernacles, which is in the seventh month.

M G S
V

5:4  And all the elders of Israel came, and the Levites took up the ark.

And when all the elders of Israel had arrived, the Levites carried the ark,

M S
G
V

5:5  And they brought up the ark, and the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the Tent; these did the priests and the Levites bring up.

and the tabernacle of witness, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle; and the priests and the Levites brought it up.

and they brought it in, along with all the equipment of the tabernacle. Then too, the priests with the Levites carried the vessels of the sanctuary, which were in the tabernacle.

5:6  And king Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled unto him, were before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be counted nor numbered for multitude.

And king Solomon, and all the elders of Israel, and the religious of them, and they of them that were gathered before the ark, were sacrificing calves and sheep, which could not be numbered or reckoned for multitude.

Now king Solomon, and the entire assembly of Israel, and all who had gathered together before the ark, were immolating rams and oxen without any number, for so great was the multitude of the victims.

M G V
S

5:7  And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of YHWH unto its place, into the Sanctuary of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubim.

Then the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and put it in its place, into the most holy place under the wings of the cherubim

M S
G
V

5:8  For the cherubim spread forth their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered the ark and the staves thereof above.

And the cherubs stretched out their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubs covered the ark, and its staves above.

so that the cherubim extended their wings over the place where the ark was positioned, and they covered the ark itself and its bars.

M G
V
S

5:9  And the staves were so long that the ends of the staves were seen from the ark before the Sanctuary; but they could not be seen without; and there they are unto this day.

But concerning the bars by which the ark was carried, because they were a little longer, the ends were able to be seen before the oracle. Yet truly, if anyone were a little ways toward the exterior, he would not be able to see them. And so the ark has been in that place, even to the present day.

And the poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from underneath the ark within the house, but they were not seen from the outside. And there they remain to this day.

5:10  There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put there at Horeb, when YHWH made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.

10  And there was nothing else in the ark, except the two tablets, which Moses had placed there at Horeb when the Lord gave the law to the sons of Israel, at the departure from Egypt.

10  There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets which Moses had put there, which he brought from mount Sinai. This is the same covenant which the LORD made with the children of Israel when they came out of the land of Egypt.

M G S
V

5:11  And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place--for all the priests that were present had sanctified themselves, and did not keep their courses;

11  And having gone out from the Sanctuary, the priests (for all the priests who were able to be found there were sanctified, and in that time the turns and orders of the ministries had not yet been divided among them)

M S
G
V

5:12  also the Levites who were the singers, all of them, even Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, and their sons and their brethren, arrayed in fine linen, with cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them a hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets--

12  that all the singing Levites assigned to the sons of Asaph, to Æman, to Idithun, and to his sons, and to his brethren, of them that were clothed in linen garments, with cymbals and lutes and harps, were standing before the altar, and with them a hundred and twenty priests, blowing trumpets.

12  with both the Levites and the singing men, that is, those who were under Asaph, and those who were under Heman, and those who were under Jeduthun, with their sons and brothers, clothed in fine linen, sounded out with cymbals, and psalteries, and harps, standing toward the eastern side of the altar. And with them were one hundred twenty priests, sounding out with trumpets.

5:13  it came even to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking YHWH; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the YHWH: 'for He is good, for His mercy endureth for ever'; that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD,

13  And there was one voice in the trumpeting and in the psalm-singing, and in the loud utterance with one voice to give thanks and praise the Lord; and when they raised their voice together with trumpets and cymbals, and instruments of music, and said, Give thanks to the Lord, for it is good, for his mercy endures for ever:—then the house was filled with the cloud of the glory of the Lord.

13  And when they all sounded out together, with trumpets, and voice, and cymbals, and pipes, and with various kinds of musical instruments, lifting their voice on high, the sound was heard from far away, so that when they had begun to praise the Lord, and to say, “Confess to the Lord, for he is good; for his mercy is eternal,” the house of God was filled with a cloud.

5:14  so that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud; for the glory of YHWH filled the house of God.

14  And the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.

14  Neither were the priests able to stand and to minister, because of the cloud. For the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God.

M G

6:1  Then spoke Solomon: YHWH hath said that He would dwell in the thick darkness.

Then Solomon said: “The Lord has promised that he would dwell in a cloud.

M G V S

6:2  But I have built Thee a house of habitation, and a place for Thee to dwell in for ever.

6:3  And the king turned his face, and blessed all the congregation of Israel; and all the congregation of Israel stood.

6:4  And he said: 'Blessed be YHWH, the God of Israel, who spoke with His mouth unto David my father, and hath with His hands fulfilled it, saying

“Blessed is the Lord, the God of Israel, who has completed the work that he spoke to David my father, saying

6:5  Since the day that I brought forth My people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house in, that My name might be there; neither chose I any man to be prince over My people Israel;

From the day when I brought up my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city of all the tribes of Israel, to build a house that my name should be there; neither did I choose a man to be a leader over my people Israel.

‘From the day when I led my people away from the land of Egypt, I did not choose a city from all the tribes of Israel, so that a house would be built in it to my name. And I did not choose any other man, so that he would be the ruler of my people Israel.

6:7  Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of YHWH, the God of Israel.

And it came into the heart of David my father, to build a house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

And though David, my father, had decided that he would build a house to the name of the Lord God of Israel,

6:8  But YHWH said unto David my father: Whereas it was in thy heart to build a house for My name, thou didst well that it was in thy heart;

But the Lord said to my father David, Whereas it came into thy heart to build a house for my name, thou didst well that it came into thy heart.

the Lord said to him: ‘In so far as it was your will that you build a house to my name, certainly you have done well in having such a will.

Nevertheless you shall not build the house for my name, but your son who shall come forth out of your loins, he shall build the house for my name.

6:10  And YHWH hath established His word that He spoke; for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the YHWH promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

10  And the Lord has confirmed this word, which he spoke; and I am raised up in the room of my father David, and I sit upon the throne of Israel as the Lord said, and I have built the house for the name of the Lord God of Israel

10  Therefore, the Lord has accomplished his word, which he had spoken. And I have risen up in place of my father David, and I sit upon the throne of Israel, just as the Lord spoke. And I have built a house to the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.

6:11  And there have I set the ark, wherein is the covenant of YHWH, which He made with the children of Israel.'

11  And I have placed in it the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord that he formed with the sons of Israel.”

11  And I have prepared a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD that he made with our fathers when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt.

6:12  And he stood before the altar of YHWH in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands--

12  Then he stood before the altar of the Lord, facing the entire multitude of Israel, and he extended his hands.

12  And Solomon stood up before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven;

M G S

6:13  for Solomon had made a brazen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court; and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven--

13  For indeed, Solomon had made a bronze base, and he had positioned it in the midst of the hall; it held five cubits in length, and five cubits in width, and three cubits in height. And he stood upon it. And next, kneeling down while facing the entire multitude of Israel, and lifting up his palms towards heaven,

6:14  and he said: 'O YHWH, the God of Israel, there is no God like Thee, in the heaven, or in the earth; who keepest covenant and mercy with Thy servants, that walk before Thee with all their heart;

14  And prayed and said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no one like thee; thou art the LORD who dwellest in heaven above, and thy will is carried out upon the earth below; who keepest covenant and showest mercy to thy servants who walk before thee uprightly with all their hearts;

6:15  who hast kept with Thy servant David my father that which Thou didst promise him; yea, Thou spokest with Thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with Thy hand, as it is this day.

15  Even as thou hast kept them with thy servant David my father, as thou hast spoken to him in words:—thou hast both spoken with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thy hands, as it is this day.

15  You fulfilled for your servant David, my father, whatsoever you had said to him. And you carried out the deed that you promised with your mouth, just as the present time proves.

M G S

6:16  Now therefore, O YHWH, the God of Israel, keep with Thy servant David my father that which Thou hast promised him, saying: There shall not fail thee a man in My sight to sit on the throne of Israel; if only thy children take heed to their way, to walk in My law as thou hast walked before Me.

16  Now then, O Lord God of Israel, fulfill for your servant David, my father, whatsoever you said to him, saying: ‘There shall not fail to be a man from you before me, who will sit upon the throne of Israel, yet only if your sons will guard their ways, and will walk in my law, just as you also have walked before me.’

6:17  Now therefore, O YHWH, the God of Israel, let Thy word be verified, which Thou spokest unto Thy servant David.

17  And now, Lord God of Israel, let, I pray thee, thy word be confirmed, which thou hast spoken to thy servant David.

17  And now, O Lord God of Israel, let your word be confirmed that you spoke to your servant David.

6:18  But will God in very truth dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain Thee; how much less this house which I have builded!

M G S

6:19  Yet have Thou respect unto the prayer of Thy servant, and to his supplication, O YHWH my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer which Thy servant prayeth before Thee;

6:20  that Thine eyes may be open toward this house day and night, even toward the place whereof Thou hast said that thou wouldest put Thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which Thy servant shall pray toward this place.

20  so that thine eyes should be open over this house by day and by night, towards this place, whereon thou saidst thy name should be called, so as to hear the prayer which thy servant prays towards this house.

20  and so that you may open your eyes over this house, day and night, over the place where you promised that your name would be invoked,

6:21  And hearken Thou to the supplications of Thy servant, and of Thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place; yea, hear Thou from Thy dwelling-place, even from heaven; and when Thou hearest, forgive.

21  And thou shalt hear the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, whatsoever prayers they shall make towards this place: and thou shalt hearken in thy dwelling-place out of heaven, yea thou shalt hear, and be merciful.

6:23  then hear Thou from heaven, and do, and judge Thy servants, requiting the wicked, to bring his way upon his own head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

23  then shalt thou hearken out of heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, to recompense the transgressor, and to return his ways upon his head: and to justify the righteous, to recompense him according to his righteousness.

6:27  then hear Thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of Thy servants, and of Thy people Israel, when Thou dost direct them on the good way wherein they should walk; and send rain upon Thy land, which Thou hast given to Thy people for an inheritance.

27  then shalt thou hearken from heaven, and thou shalt be merciful to the sins of thy servants, and of thy people Israel; for thou shalt shew them the good way in which they shall walk; and thou shalt send rain upon thy land, which thou gavest to thy people for an inheritance.

27  heed them from heaven, O Lord, and forgive the sins of your servants and of your people Israel, and teach them the good way, by which they may advance, and give rain to the land that you gave to your people as a possession.

6:28  If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting or mildew, locust or caterpillar; if their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague or whatsoever sickness there be;

28  If there should be famine upon the land, if there should be death, a pestilent wind an blight; if there should be locust and caterpiller, and if the enemy should harass them before their cities: in whatever plague and whatever distress they may be;

28  If a famine will have risen up in the land, or pestilence, or fungus, or mildew, or locusts, or beetles, or if enemies will have laid waste to the countryside and will have besieged the gates of the cities, or whatever scourge or infirmity will have pressed upon them,

6:30  then hear Thou from heaven Thy dwelling-place, and forgive, and render unto every man according to all his ways, whose heart Thou knowest--for Thou, even Thou only, knowest the hearts of the children of men--

30  then shalt thou hear from heaven, out of thy prepared dwelling-place, and shalt be merciful, and shalt recompense to the man according to his ways, as thou shalt know his heart to be; for thou alone knowest the heart of the children of men

30  you will heed him from heaven, indeed from your sublime habitation, and you will forgive, and you will repay each one according to his ways, which you know him to hold in his heart. For you alone know the hearts of the sons of men.

Moreover, all the sons of Israel saw the fire descending, and the glory of the Lord upon the house. And falling prone upon the ground, on the layer of pavement stones, they adored and praised the Lord: “For he is good. For his mercy is everlasting.”

13:11  and they burn unto YHWH every morning and every evening burnt-offerings and sweet incense; the showbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening; for we keep the charge of the YHWH our God; but ye have forsaken Him.

11  they sacrifice to the Lord whole-burnt-offering, morning and evening, and compound incense, and set the shewbread on the pure table; and there is the golden candlestick, and the lamps for burning, to light in the evening: for we keep the charge of the Lord God of our fathers; but ye have forsaken him.

11  Also, they offer holocausts to the Lord, each and every day, morning and evening, and incense composed according to the precept of the law, and the bread of the presence on a very pure table. And there is with us the gold lampstand with its lamps, so that they may burn continually in the evening. For certainly, we keep the precepts of the Lord our God, whom you have forsaken.

13:12  And, behold, God is with us at our head, and His priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against YHWH, the God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.'

12  Therefore, God is the commander of our army, with his priests, who sound the trumpets that ring out against you. O sons of Israel, do not choose to fight against the Lord, the God of your fathers. For it is not expedient for you.”

12  But you have forsaken him and have gone after dead gods, and you serve them and worship them; and have forsaken the LORD God of your fathers, therefore you shall not prosper in the world.

13:13  But Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them; so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them.

13  Now Jeroboam had caused an ambush to come round upon him from behind: and he himself was before Juda, and the ambush behind.

13  While he was speaking these things, Jeroboam set in motion an ambush behind them. And while they stood facing the enemy, without Judah realizing it, his army circled around.

13:14  And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind them; and they cried unto YHWH, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

14  And Juda looked back, and, behold, the battle was against them before and behind: and they cried to the Lord, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

14  And looking back, Judah saw the war threatening in front and behind, and they cried out to the Lord. And the priests began to sound the trumpets.

13:15  Then the men of Judah gave a shout; and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

15  And the men of Juda shouted: and it came to pass, when the men of Juda shouted, that the Lord smote Jeroboam and Israel before Abia and Juda.

15  And all the men of Judah shouted out. And behold, when they cried out, God terrified Jeroboam, and all of Israel who were standing in opposition to Abijah and Judah.

13:17  And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter; so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

17  Therefore, Abijah and his people struck them with a great slaughter. And five hundred thousand strong men of Israel fell wounded.

17  And Abijah slew them with a great slaughter; so there fell slain of Israel five hundred thousand young men.

13:18  Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon YHWH, the God of their fathers.

18  So the children of Israel were brought low in that day, and the children of Juda prevailed, because they trusted on the Lord God of their fathers.

18  And the sons of Israel were humiliated at that time. And the sons of Judah were very greatly strengthened, because they had trusted in the Lord, the God of their fathers.

13:19  And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Bethel with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephrain with the towns thereof.

19  Then Abijah pursued the fleeing Jeroboam. And he seized cities from him: Bethel and her daughters, and Jeshanah with her daughters, and also Ephron and her daughters.

13:20  Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah; and YHWH smote him, and he died.

20  And Jeroboam no longer had the strength to resist, in the days of Abijah. And the Lord struck him, and he died.

21  And so Abijah, having been strengthened in his authority, took fourteen wives. And he procreated twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.

21  But Abijah became strong, and he married fourteen wives, and there were born to him twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.

And Abia died with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In the days of Asa the land of Juda had rest ten years.

Then Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the City of David. And his son, Asa, reigned in his place. During his days, the land was quiet for ten years.

14:6  And he built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years; because YHWH had given him rest.

14:7  For he said unto Judah: 'Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars; the land is yet before us, because we have sought YHWH our God; we have sought Him, and He hath given us rest on every side.' So they built and prospered.

Then he said to Judah: “Let us build these cities, and strengthen them with walls, and fortify them with towers and gates and bars, while all things are at rest from wars. For we have sought the Lord, the God of our fathers, and he has granted to us peace on every side.” And so they built, and there was nothing to impede them from building.
