1  Now the apostles and the brothers who were in Judea heard that even the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

1  And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

2  And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision were contending with him,

2  Then, when Peter had gone up to Jerusalem, those who were of the circumcision argued against him,

3  saying, "You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!"

3  Saying he had entered into the houses of uncircumcised men and had eaten with them.

4  But Peter, beginning [to speak,] was setting forth to them in order, saying,

4  Then Simon began to recite the facts one after another, saying,

5  "I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, a certain vessel coming down like a great sheet, being lowered by the four corners from heaven; and it came as far as me;

5  As I was praying in Joppa, I saw in a vision something like a linen cloth descending from the sky, and it was tied at its four corners; and it came even to me.

6  on which, looking intently, I was contemplating, and I saw the four-footed [animals] of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the reptiles, and the birds of the air.

6  upon which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw the fourfooted beasts of the earth and wild beasts and creeping things and birds of the heaven.

6  And as I looked at it, I saw that there were in it fourfooted beasts, and creeping things of the earth, and fowls of the air.

7  And I heard a voice saying to me, 'Arise, Peter; kill and eat.'

7  Then I also heard a voice saying to me: ‘Rise up, Peter. Kill and eat.’

7  Then I heard a voice saying to me, Simon, arise, kill and eat.

8  "But I said, 'By no means, Lord! For nothing common or unclean has ever entered into my mouth.'

8  And I said, Far be it, my Lord: for never has anything defiled and unclean entered my mouth.

9  "But the voice answered me a second [time] from heaven, 'What God has made clean, you must not make common.'

9  Then the voice responded a second time from heaven, ‘What God has cleansed, you shall not call common.’

9  But again the voice from heaven said to me, What God has cleansed, do not call unclean.

10  "And this was done three times, and again all things[ ]were drawn up into heaven.

10  Now this was done three times. And then everything was taken up again into heaven.

10  This happened three times: then everything was lifted up into heaven.

11  And behold, immediately three men stood before the house in which I was, having been sent from Caesarea to me.

11  And in that very hour, three men who were sent to me by Cornelius from Cµs-areÆa came and stood at the gate of the courtyard where I was staying.

12  And the Spirit said to me to go with them, without wavering. Now these six brothers also went with me, and we entered into the house of the man.

12  And the Spirit bade me go with them, making no distinction. And these six brethren also accompanied me; and we entered into the man`s house

12  Then the Spirit told me that I should go with them, doubting nothing. And these six brothers went with me also. And we entered into the house of the man.

13  And he related to us how he had seen the angel in his house, standing and saying to him, 'Send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter,

14  'who will speak words to you by which you and all your household shall be saved.'

14  who shall speak unto thee words, whereby thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house.

14  And he shall speak to you words, by which you shall be saved with your whole house.’

15  "And when I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, as also on us in the beginning.

15  And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them, as on us at the beginning.

16  And I remembered the word of YHWH, how He said, 'John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'

16  Then I remembered the words of the Lord, just as he himself said: ‘John, indeed, baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’

16  Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

17  "If then God has given to them the same gift as He gave to us, when we believed on YHWH Jesus Christ, who was I to hinder God?"

17  Therefore, if God gave them the same grace, as also to us, who have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I would be able to prohibit God?”

18  And hearing these things, they remained silent, and [they] glorified God, saying, "Then God has also granted even to the Gentiles repentance unto life."

18  Having heard these things, they were silent. And they glorified God, saying: “So has God also given to the Gentiles repentance unto life.”

18  When they heard these words, they held their peace and glorified God, saying, Perhaps God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance unto life.

19  Then those who were scattered because of the tribulation coming about over Stephen, went about as far as Phoenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews only.

19  Now those who had been dispersed by the persecution which occurred on account of Stephen, traveled as far as Phoe-niÆci-a and even to the land of Cyprus, and to AnÆtioch, preaching the word to none but to the Jews only.

20  But some of them were men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who, entering into Antioch spoke to the Greek speaking Jews, preaching the good news of YHWH Jesus.

20  But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Greeks also, preaching the Lord Jesus.

20  And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.

21  And the hand of YHWH was with them, and a great number believed,[ ]and turned to the Lord.

22  And the word about them was heard in the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent forth Barnabas to go as far as Antioch;

22  Then tidings of these things came to the attention of the members of the congregation at Jerusalem: and they sent BarÆnabas to AnÆti-och.

23  who, arriving and seeing the grace of God, was glad, and encouraged them all with purpose of heart to continue with YHWH,

23  who, when he was come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad; and he exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord

23  And when he had arrived there and had seen the grace of God, he was gladdened. And he exhorted them all to continue in the Lord with a resolute heart.

24  for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a considerable crowd was added to YHWH.

25  And Barnabas went forth to Tarsus to seek out Saul,

25  Then Barnabas set out for Tarsus, so that he might seek Saul. And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch.

26  and having found him, he brought him to Antioch. And it came about that for a whole year they assembled with the church and instructed many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

26  and when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that even for a whole year they were gathered together with the church, and taught much people, and that the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

26  And they were conversing there in the Church for an entire year. And they taught such a great multitude, that it was at Antioch that the disciples were first known by the name of Christian.

27  Now in these days prophets went down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

27  And in those days came prophets from Jerusalem to AnÆti-och.

28  And rising up, one of them named Agabus, foretold by the Spirit of a great famine about to happen in all the world, which also came to pass in the time of Claudius Caesar.

28  And one of them, named Agabus, rising up, signified through the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine over the entire world, which did happen under Claudius.

29  Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined as a ministry to send relief to the brothers dwelling in Judea;

29  And the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren that dwelt in Judea

30  which they also did, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.

30  This they did, and sent it there to the elders by the hands of BarÆna-bas and Saul.

12:1  Now at that time Herod the king put [forth ]his hands to harm some from the church.

12:2  And he put to death James the brother of John with the sword.

2  Then he killed James, the brother of John, with the sword.

12:3  And seeing that it was pleasing to the Jews, he proceeded further to arrest Peter also (these were during the Days of Unleavened Bread),

3  And when he saw that this pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Simon Peter also. This happened during the days of unleavened bread.

3  And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

12:4  whom also seizing, he put him in prison, and handed him over to four four-man squads of soldiers to guard him, planning after the Passover to bring him again to the people.

4  So when he had apprehended him, he sent him into prison, handing him over into the custody of four groups of four soldiers, intending to produce him to the people after the Passover.

4  So he seized him and put him in prison and delivered him to the care of sixteen soldiers to keep him, so that he might deliver him to the Jewish people after the passover.

12:5  Therefore Peter was kept in prison; but earnest prayer was being made by the church to God [on] behalf of him.

5  And so Peter was detained in prison. But prayers were being made without ceasing, by the Church, to God on his behalf.

5  And while Simon Peter was kept in the prison, continual prayer was offered for him to God by the church.

12:6  But when Herod was about to bring him forth, on that night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, having been bound with two chains; and guards before the door were keeping the prison.

12:7  And behold, an angel of YHWH stood [there], and a light shined in the prison room; and striking the side of Peter, he roused him saying, "Arise quickly!"And his chains fell away from his hands.

7  The angel of the LORD stood over him, and a light shone in all the prison: and the angel touched him on the side and awoke him, and said to him, Rise up quickly. And the chains fell off from his hands.

7  And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

12:8  And the angel said to him, "Gird yourself and put on your sandals"; and he did so. And he said to him, "Put on your cloak and follow me."

8  And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And he did so. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

8  Then the Angel said to him: “Dress yourself, and put on your boots.” And he did so. And he said to him, “Wrap your garment around yourself and follow me.”

12:9  And going out, he was following him, and did not know that the thing taking place by the angel was true, but he was thinking that he was seeing a vision.

9  And he went out, and followed; and he knew not that it was true which was done by the angel, but thought he saw a vision.

12:10  And going though the first and the second guard [posts], they came to the iron gate which leads into the city, which was opened to them of its own accord; and going out, they went forward one street, and immediately the angel withdrew from him.

10  When they had passed the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate and it opened to them of its own accord; and when they had gone out, and had passed one street, the angel departed from him.

12:11  And Peter, having come to himself, said, "Now I know truly that YHWH has sent forth His angel, and has delivered me from the hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the Jews."

12:12  And realizing [this], he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where a considerable [number] were gathered together and were praying.

12  And when he had considered [the thing], he came to the house of Mary the mother of John whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together and were praying.

12  And as he was considering this, he arrived at the house of Mary, the mother of John, who was surnamed Mark, where many were gathered and were praying.

12:13  And when Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a servant girl came to answer, named Rhoda.

13  Then, as he knocked at the door of the gate, a girl went out to answer, whose name was Rhoda.

13  When he knocked at the door of the courtyard, a little girl named Rhoda came out to answer.

12:14  When she recognized Peter's voice, because of her gladness she did not open the gate, but running in, she announced that Peter stood at the gate.

14  And when she knew Peter`s voice, she opened not the gate for joy, but ran in, and told that Peter stood before the gate.

14  And when she recognized the voice of Peter, out of joy, she did not open the gate, but instead, running in, she reported that Peter stood before the gate.

12:15  But they said to her, "You are mad!"Yet she kept insisting that it was so. So they said, "It is his angel."

15  And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she confidently affirmed that it was even so. And they said, It is his angel.

15  They said to her, You are confused. But she argued that it was so. Then said they, Perhaps it is his angel.

12:16  But Peter was continuing knocking; and opening [the door] they saw him, and were astounded.

12:17  And motioning to them with his hand to be silent, he related to them how YHWH had led him out of the prison. And he said, "Tell these things to James and to the brothers."And going out, he went to another place.

17  But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him forth out of the prison. And he said, Tell these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went to another place.

12:18  Now when day came, there was no small disturbance among the soldiers, as to what had become of Peter.

18  Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.

18  Then, when daylight came, there was no small commotion among the soldiers, as to what had happened concerning Peter.

12:19  And Herod, seeking for him and not finding him, he examined the guards, and commanded that they be executed. And going down from Judea to Caesarea, he was spending time [there].

19  And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the guards, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and tarried there.

19  When Herod had sought him and could not find him, he sentenced the guards and commanded that they should be put to death. And Simon Peter left Ju-dµÆa and stayed at Cµs-a-reÆa.

12:20  Now Herod was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon; and with one purpose they came to him, and persuading Blastus, the one over the king's bedroom, they asked for peace, because their country was fed from the king's [country].

20  Herod was angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon, but they assembled together and came to him, and they appealed to BlasÆtus, the kingÆs chamberlain, and asked him that they might have peace, because their country was dependent upon the kingdom of Herod for food supplies.

20  And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country.

12:21  And on an appointed day Herod, clothing himself with royal apparel, and sitting on the judgment seat, was delivering an address to them.

21  Upon the set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon the throne and addressed the assembly.

21  And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

12:22  And the crowds kept calling out, "[This is the] voice of a god and not of a man!"

22  Then the people were crying out, “The voice of a god, and not of a man!”

22  And all the people shouted, saying, This sounds like the voice of God speaking and not that of a man.

12:23  Then immediately an angel of YHWH struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.

23  And immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

12:24  But the word of God increased and multiplied.

24  But the gospel of God continued to be preached and to reach many.

12:25  And Barnabas and Saul returned to Jerusalem, having fulfilled their ministry, taking along with [them] John also, whose surname was Mark.

25  Then Barnabas and Saul, having completed the ministry, returned from Jerusalem, bringing with them John, who was surnamed Mark.

25  BarÆna-bas and Saul, after they had fulfilled their ministry, returned from Jerusalem to AnÆti-och, and took with them John whose surname was Mark.

13:1  Now there were some in the church being in Antioch [who were] prophets and teachers: both Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

1  Now there were at Antioch, in the church that was [there], prophets and teachers, Barnabas, and Symeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen the foster-brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

1  NOW there were in the church at AnÆti-och prophets and teachers; BarÆna-bas, and Simeon who was called NiÆger, and LuÆcius from the city of Cy-rene, and ManÆa-el, who was the son of the man who brought up Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

13:2  Now as they were ministering to YHWH and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work which I have called them."

2  And as they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

2  As they fasted and prayed to God, the Holy Spirit said to them, Appoint for me Saul and BarÆna-bas for the work to which I have called them.

13:3  Then, fasting and praying, and laying their hands on them, they sent them away.

13:4  These two therefore, having been sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.

13:5  And arriving in Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They also had John as their assistant.

13:6  And going across the island as far as Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus,

13:7  who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God.

7  Who was very close friend to a wise man, the proconsul whose name was SerÆgi-us PauÆlus, who called for Saul and BarÆna-bas, and desired to hear from them the word of God.

7  Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.

13:8  But Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) resisted them, seeking to turn away the proconsul from the faith.

13:9  But Saul, who also is [called] Paul, was filled with the Holy Spirit, and gazing intently at him,

9  Then Saul, who is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked at him,

13:10  [he ]said, "O full of all guile and all craft, [you] son of [the] devil, [you] enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of YHWH?

10  and said, O full of all guile and all villany, thou son of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

10  and he said: “So full of every deceit and of all falsehoods, son of the devil, enemy of all justice, you never cease to subvert the righteous ways of the Lord!

13:11  And now behold, the hand of YHWH is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a season."And immediately a mistiness and darkness fell upon him, and going about, he sought someone to lead him by the hand.

11  And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

13:12  Then when the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, being amazed at the teaching of YHWH.

12  Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

12  And when the proconsul saw what had happened, he was amazed, and believed the teaching of the LORD.

13:13  Now Paul and his companions put to sea from Paphos, and came to Perga of Pamphylia; But John deserted them and returned to Jerusalem.

13  And when Paul and those who were with him had sailed from Paphos, they arrived at Perga in Pamphylia. Then John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.

13  Then Paul and BarÆna-bas sailed from the city of PaÆphos, and came to PerÆga, a city in Pam-phylÆi-a: and John separated from them and went to Jerusalem.

13:14  But they went from Perga, and arrived in Antioch of Pisidia, and entering into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, they sat down.

13:15  Now after the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue leaders sent to them, saying, "Men and brothers, if there is by you a word of encouragement for the people, speak."

15  Then, after the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent to them, saying: “Noble brothers, if there is in you any word of exhortation to the people, speak.”

13:16  And Paul, arising and motioning with his hand, said, "Men, Israelites, and you who fear God, listen

16  So Paul stood up, and lifting his hands said, O men of Israel, and those of you who fear God, hear my words

13:17  The God of this people chose our fathers, and lifting up the people during their sojourn in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm brought them out from it.

17  The God of the people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people, when they were settlers in the land of Egypt. And with an exalted arm, he led them away from there.

13:18  Now for a time of about forty years He put up with them in the wilderness.

18  And for about the time of forty years as a nursing-father bare he them in the wilderness.

18  And he fed them in the wilderness for forty years.

13:19  And destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, He gave their land to them as an inheritance.

19  And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave [them] their land for an inheritance, for about four hundred and fifty years

19  And by destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, he divided their land among them by lot,

13:20  And after these things, [for ]about four hundred and fifty years, He gave [them] judges until [the time of] Samuel the prophet.

13:21  And then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.

21  And afterward they asked for a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for the space of forty years.

13:22  And removing him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom He also said bearing witness, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, [to be ]a man after My [own] heart, who will do all My will.'

13:23  God, from the seed of this [man,] according to the promise, has brought to Israel salvation,

23  Of this man`s seed hath God according to promise brought unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus;

23  From his offspring, according to the Promise, God has brought Jesus the Savior to Israel.

13:24  after John had first proclaimed before His coming, the baptism of repentance to Israel.

24  when John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

13:25  Now as John was finishing his course, he said, 'Whom do you suppose me to be? I am not He. But behold, there comes One after me, the sandal of whose feet I am not worthy to loosen.'

25  And as John fulfilled his ministry, he said, Whom do you think I am? I am not he. But behold there comes one after me the strings of whose shoes I am not worthy to untie.

13:26  "Men, brothers, sons of the race of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to you the message of this salvation has been sent.

26  Brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you that fear God, to us is the word of this salvation sent forth.

13:27  For those dwelling in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know Him, nor the voices of the Prophets which are read according to each Sabbath, condemning [him], they fulfilled [the Scriptures.]

27  For they that dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath, fulfilled [them] by condemning [him].

27  For in as much as the inhabitants of Jerusalem and their leaders did not understand him nor the books of the prophets which are read every Sabbath day, they condemned him; but all the things which were written have been fulfilled.

13:28  And finding no cause for death, they asked Pilate that He be executed.

28  And though they found no cause of death [in him], yet asked they of Pilate that he should be slain.

28  And although they found no case for death against him, they petitioned Pilate, so that they might put him to death.

13:29  And when they finished all the things having been written about Him, taking Him down from the tree, they put [Him] in a tomb.

29  And when they had fulfilled all things that were written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a tomb.

13:30  But God raised Him from the dead;

30  Yet truly, God raised him up from the dead on the third day.

13:31  who appeared for [many] days more to those going up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are His witnesses to the people.

31  and he was seen for many days of them that came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses unto the people.

13:32  And we proclaim to you the good news of the promise which was made to the fathers,

32  And we bring you good tidings of the promise made unto the fathers,

13:33  that God has fulfilled this promise for us to their children, when He raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm: 'You are My Son, today I have begotten You.'

33  has been fulfilled by God for our children by raising up Jesus, just as it has been written in the second Psalm also: ‘You are my Son. This day I have begotten you.’

33  God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

13:34  "And that He raised Him from the dead, no longer being about to return to corruption, thus He has said: 'I will give you the sure decrees of God concerning David.'

34  And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he hath spoken on this wise, I will give you the holy and sure [blessings] of David.

34  And God raised him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, as he said, I will give you the sure mercies of David.

13:35  "Therefore also in another [Psalm] He says, 'You will not allow Your Holy One to see corruption.'

35  And again he said in another place, You shall not suffer your Holy One to see corruption.

13:36  "For David indeed in his own generation, having served by the purpose of God, died, and was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption;

36  For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption

36  For David, when he had ministered to his generation in accordance with the will of God, fell asleep, and he was placed next to his fathers, and he saw corruption.

13:37  but He whom God raised up did not see corruption.

37  Yet truly, he whom God has raised from the dead has not seen corruption.

13:38  Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through this Man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,

38  Therefore, let it be known to you, noble brothers, that through him is announced to you remission from sins and from everything by which you were not able to be justified in the law of Moses.

38  Be it known to you, therefore, brethren, that through this very one is preached to you the forgiveness of sins

13:39  and from all[ ]things[ ]from which you could not (by the Law of Moses) be justified, by Him everyone that believes is justified.

39  In him, all who believe are justified.

39  And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.

13:40  Watch therefore, lest there come upon you that which was spoken of in the prophets

40  Therefore, be careful, lest what was said by the Prophets may overwhelm you

40  Beware, therefore, lest that which is written in the prophets may come upon you.

13:41  "Behold, you despisers, and marvel and perish! For I will work a work in your days which you will by no means believe, though one were to declare it to you.' "

41  ‘You despisers! Look, and wonder, and be scattered! For I am working a deed in your days, a deed which you would not believe, even if someone were to explain it to you.’ ”

13:42  Now as the Jews were going out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be spoken to them the next Sabbath.

42  Then, as they were departing, they asked them if, on the following Sabbath, they might speak these words to them.

42  And as Paul and BarÆna-bas were leaving them, the people besought them to speak these things to them the next sabbath.

13:43  And when the synagogue service was broken up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking [to them], persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

43  Now when the congregation was dismissed, a great many Jews, and also proselytes who feared God, followed Paul and BarÆna-bas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

13:44  On the coming Sabbath, almost all the city was assembled to hear the word of God.

44  And the next sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God.

44  Yet truly, on the following Sabbath, nearly the entire city came together to hear the Word of God.

13:45  And the Jews, seeing the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and spoke against the things being said by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.

45  But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed.

45  Then the Jews, seeing the crowds, were filled with envy, and they, blaspheming, contradicted the things that were being said by Paul.

13:46  But Paul and Barnabas, speaking boldly said, "It was necessary for the word of God to be spoken to you first; but since you thrust it away, and judge yourselves not worthy of eternal life; behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

46  Then Paul and Barnabas said firmly: “It was necessary to speak the Word of God first to you. But because you reject it, and so judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

46  Then Paul and BarÆna-bas said to them boldly, It was necessary that the word of God should first be spoken to you: but because you reject it, you have decided against yourselves and you are unworthy of everlasting life, so behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

13:47  For so YHWH has commanded us: 'I have set you to be a light of the nations, that you should be for salvation to the end of the earth.' "

47  For so hath the Lord commanded us, [saying], I have set thee for a light of the Gentiles, That thou shouldest be for salvation unto the uttermost part of the earth.

47  For so has the Lord instructed us: ‘I have set you as a light to the Gentiles, so that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ”

13:48  Now when the Gentiles heard this, they rejoiced and glorified the word of YHWH. And as many as were appointed to eternal life believed.

48  And as the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of God: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

48  Then the Gentiles, upon hearing this, were gladdened, and they were glorifying the Word of the Lord. And as many as believed were preordained to eternal life.

13:49  And the word of YHWH was being spread throughout all the region.

49  Now the word of the Lord was disseminated throughout the entire region.

13:50  But the Jews incited the devout and prominent women and the leading [men] of the city, and raised up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and cast them out from their borders.

50  But the Jews stirred up the chief men of the city and the rich women who worshipped God with them, so that they stirred up a persecution against Paul and BarÆna-bas, and expelled them beyond their borders.

13:51  But shaking off the dust from their feet against them, they went to Iconium.

51  And as they went out, they shook off the dust of their feet upon them, and they came to the city of I-coÆni-um.

13:52  And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

52  The disciples were likewise filled with gladness and with the Holy Spirit.

14:1  And it came to pass in Iconium that they went in together into the synagogue of the Jews, and they spoke in a way so that a great multitude, both of the Jews and of the Greeks, believed.

1  Now it happened in Iconium that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews, and they spoke in such a way that a copious multitude of both Jews and Greeks believed.

1  AND Paul and BarÆna-bas entered into the Jewish synagogue and addressed the people in such manner that a great many of the Jews and of the Greeks believed.

14:2  But the disbelieving Jews aroused and embittered the souls of the Gentiles against the brothers.

2  But the Jews that were disobedient stirred up the souls of the Gentiles, and made them evil affected against the brethren.

2  Yet truly, the Jews who were unbelieving had incited and enflamed the souls of the Gentiles against the brothers.

14:3  Therefore they spent a considerable time there, speaking boldly in YHWH, who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, giving signs and wonders to take place by their hands.

3  And so, they remained for a long time, acting faithfully in the Lord, offering testimony to the Word of his grace, providing signs and wonders done by their hands.

3  So they remained there for a long time, and spoke boldly concerning the LORD, and he gave them testimony to the word of his grace, by means of signs and wonders which he performed by their hands.

14:4  And the multitude of the city was divided: and some were with the Jews, and others with the apostles.

4  Then the multitude of the city was divided. And certainly, some were with the Jews, yet truly others were with the Apostles.

4  But the people of the city were divided: part held with the Jews, and part followed the apostles.

14:5  And when an attempt was made by both the Gentiles and the[ ]Jews, together with their rulers, to mistreat and to stone them,

5  Now when an assault had been planned by the Gentiles and the Jews with their leaders, so that they might treat them with contempt and stone them,

14:6  they became aware of it and fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and to the surrounding region.

6  they, realizing this, fled together to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the entire surrounding region. And they were evangelizing in that place.

6  And when they became aware of it, they departed and took refuge in LyÆstra and Derbe, cities of Lyc-aoÆni-a, and the villages near by.

14:7  And there, they were preaching the gospel.

14:8  And a certain man in Lystra, powerless in his feet, was sitting, lame from his mother's womb, who had never walked.

8  And at Lystra there sat a certain man, impotent in his feet, a cripple from his mother`s womb, who never had walked.

8  And there dwelt in the city of LyÆstra a cripple who had been lame from his motherÆs womb, who never had walked.

14:9  This [man] heard Paul speaking; who, gazing intently on him and seeing that he had faith to be healed,

9  He heard Paul speak; and when Paul saw him and perceived that there was faith in him to be healed,

14:10  said with a loud voice, "Stand up straight on your feet!"And he was jumping and walking about.

10  He said to him with a loud voice, I say to you, in the name of our LORD Jesus Christ, stand upright on your feet. And he leaped and walked.

14:11  And the crowds, seeing what Paul did, raised their voice, saying in the Lycaonian language, "The gods have been made like men and have come down to us!"

11  And when the multitude saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

11  But when the crowds had seen what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice in the Lycaonian language, saying, “The gods, having taken the likenesses of men, have descended to us!”

14:12  And Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, since he was the leader in speaking.

12  And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercury, because he was the chief speaker.

12  So they called BarÆna-bas, the chief of the gods; and Paul, they called Hermes, because he was the chief speaker.

14:13  And the priest of Zeus, whose temple was before their city, bearing bulls and garlands to the gates, together with the crowds, was desiring to sacrifice [to them.]

13  Then the priest of the chief of gods whose shrine was outside the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gate of the courtyard where they stayed, and he wanted to offer sacrifices to them.

14:14  But when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard this, they tore their clothes and rushed in to the crowd, crying out

14  When BarÆna-bas and Paul heard of this, they rent their clothes, and leaped to their feet and went out to the crowd, crying out

14:15  and saying, "Men! Why are you doing these things? We men are of the same nature as you, preaching the gospel to you, that you must turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all the things in them,

15  and saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and bring you good tidings, that ye should turn from these vain things unto a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that in them is

15  and saying: “Men, why would you do this? We also are mortals, men like yourselves, preaching to you to be converted, from these vain things, to the living God, who made heaven and earth and the sea and all that is in them.

14:16  who in the generations having gone by permitted all the Gentiles to walk in their ways.

16  In previous generations, he permitted all nations to walk in their own ways.

16  Who in generations past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.

14:17  And yet He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, giving to you rain from heaven and fruit bearing seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness."

17  But certainly, he did not leave himself without testimony, doing good from heaven, giving rains and fruitful seasons, filling their hearts with food and gladness.”

17  Nevertheless he left himself without testimony, in that he bestowed good on them from heaven, and gave them rain, and caused the fruits to grow in their seasons, and satisfied their hearts with food and gladness.

14:18  And saying these things, they scarcely stopped the crowds from sacrificing to them.

18  And by saying these things, they were barely able to restrain the crowds from immolating to them.

18  And even though they said these things they had difficulty in restraining the people from offering sacrifice to them.

14:19  But there arrived from Antioch and Iconium [certain ]Jews, and having persuaded the crowds and having stoned Paul, they dragged [him] outside the city, thinking he was dead.

19  But there came Jews thither from Antioch and Iconium: and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul, and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead.

19  And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.

14:20  But when the disciples encircled him, he stood and entered into the city. And the next day he went out together with Barnabas to Derbe.

20  But as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and entered into the city: and on the morrow he went forth with Barnabas to Derbe.

20  Howbeit, as the disciples gathered around him, he rose up and entered again into the city: and the next day he departed from there with BarÆna-bas, and they came to the city of DerÆbe.

14:21  And having preached the gospel to that city and having made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, and Iconium, and Antioch,

21  And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, and to Iconium, and to Antioch,

14:22  strengthening the souls of the disciples, urging [them] to continue in the faith, [saying, "]Through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God."

22  confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God.

14:23  And having chosen elders for them in every church, [and ]having prayed with fasting, they commended them to YHWH in whom they had believed.

23  And when they had appointed for them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they had believed.

14:24  And having crossed Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

24  And traveling by way of Pisidia, they arrived in Pamphylia.

24  And after they had traveled through the country of Pi-sidÆi-a, they came to PamphylÆi- a.

14:25  And having spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia.

25  And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia;

25  And when they had preached the word of the LORD in the city of PerÆga, they went down to At-taÆli-a

14:26  From there they sailed to Antioch, from where they were commended to the grace of God for the work which they had completed.

26  and thence they sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been committed to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled.

14:27  Now arriving and gathering the church together, they related all that God had done with them, and that He had opened the door of faith for the Gentiles.

27  And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all things that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith unto the Gentiles.

27  And as the whole congregation was gathered together, they related everything that God had done to them, and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.

14:28  And they spent a long time there with the disciples.

28  And they remained for no small amount of time with the disciples.

15:1  And certain men coming down from Judea were teaching the brothers, "If you are not circumcised in the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved."

1  AND certain men who had come down from JudµÆa taught the brethren, Unless you be circumcised in accordance with the custom of the law you cannot be saved.

15:2  Therefore when there arose a serious dissension and debate with Paul and Barnabus, they determined that Paul and Barnabas and some others of them should go up to the apostles and elders in Jerusalem concerning this issue.

15:3  Therefore, being sent forth by the church, they were passing through Phoenicia and Samaria, telling in detail [about] the conversion of the Gentiles; and they were causing great joy to all the brothers.

3  They were given an escort and sent on their way by the church, and they traveled through all Phoe-niÆci-a and the territory of the Sa-marÆi-tans, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles; and they caused great joy to all the brethren.

15:4  And having come to Jerusalem, they were received by the church and the apostles and the elders; and they declared all that God had done with them.

4  And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church and the apostles and the elders, and they rehearsed all things that God had done with them.

4  On their arrival at Jerusalem, they were received by the church, and by the apostles and elders; and they reported everything that God had done with them.

15:5  But some of those from the sect of the Pharisees rose up, saying, "It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses."

5  But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

15:6  And the apostles and elders gathered together to see about this matter.

6  Then the apostles and elders assembled to consider this matter.

15:7  And after much dispute, Peter arose and said to them: "Men, brothers, you know that from early days God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.

7  And when there had been much questioning, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Brethren, ye know that a good while ago God made choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

7  And after a great contention had taken place, Peter rose up and said to them: “Noble brothers, you know that, in recent days, God has chosen from among us, by my mouth, Gentiles to hear the word of the Gospel and to believe.

15:8  And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as also [He did] to us,

8  And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

15:9  and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

9  And he distinguished nothing between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

9  And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

15:10  Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

15:11  But through the grace of YHWH Jesus, we believe that we will be saved in the same manner as they."

11  But by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, we believe in order to be saved, in the same manner also as them.”

11  But we believe that through the grace of the LORD Jesus Christ, we shall be saved even as they.

15:12  Then all the multitude stopped speaking and listened to Barnabas and Paul telling as many signs and wonders as God had done among the Gentiles through them.

12  Then the whole congregation was silent, and listened to Paul and Barnabas, who were declaring the miracles and signs among the Gentiles and everything which God had wrought by their hands.

15:13  Now after they had finished speaking, James answered, saying, "Men and brothers, listen to me

13  And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Brethren, hearken unto me

13  And when they had ceased speaking, James rose up and said, Men and brethren, hear me

15:14  Simeon has declared how God first visited [them ]to take from the Gentiles a people for His name.

14  Simon has explained in what manner God first visited, so as to take from the Gentiles a people to his name.

14  Simon Peter has told you how God from the beginning chose a people from the Gentiles for his name.

15:15  And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written

15:16  "After this I will return, and I will build again the tabernacle of David, which has fallen; and its ruins I will rebuild, and I will restore it,

16  After these things I will return, And I will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen; And I will build again the ruins thereof, And I will set it up

15:17  in order that the rest of men may seek out YHWH, and all the Gentiles who are called by My name, says the YHWH who does all these things.'

17  That the residue of men may seek after the Lord, And all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called,

17  so that the rest of men may seek the Lord, along with all the nations over whom my name has been invoked, says the Lord, who does these things.’

15:18  "Known from everlasting to God are all His works.

18  Saith the Lord, who maketh these things known from of old.

18  To the Lord, his own work has been known from eternity.

15:19  Therefore I judge that we must not cause trouble for those who are turning to God from [among] the Gentiles;

19  Because of this, I judge that those who were converted to God from among the Gentiles are not to be disturbed,

19  Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God

15:20  but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, from things strangled, and [from] blood.

20  but instead that we write to them, that they should keep themselves from the defilement of idols, and from fornication, and from whatever has been suffocated, and from blood.

20  But let us send word to them that they abstain from defilement by sacrifices to idols, and from fornication, and from animals strangled, and from blood.

15:21  "For Moses has had from ancient generations those who proclaim him in each city, being read in the synagogues from one Sabbath to another."

21  For Moses from generations of old hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath.

21  For Moses, from the very early centuries, had preachers in the synagogues in every city to read his books on every sabbath day.

15:22  Then it seemed best to the apostles and the elders, together with the whole church, to send men being chosen from them to Antioch, together with Paul and Barnabas, namely, Judas who was also named Barsabas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers.

22  Then it pleased the Apostles and elders, with the whole Church, to choose men from among them, and to send to Antioch, with Paul and Barnabas, and Judas, who was surnamed Barsabbas, and Silas, preeminent men among the brothers,

22  Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, chose men from among themselves and sent them to AnÆti-och with Paul and BarÆna-bas; namely, Judas who is called BarÆsa-bas and Silas, men who were leaders among the brethren

15:23  Writing by their hand these things: The apostles, the elders, and the brothers, to the brothers in Antioch, and Syria, and Cilicia who are of the Gentiles: Greetings.

23  and they wrote [thus] by them, The apostles and the elders, brethren, unto the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greeting

23  And they wrote a letter and sent it by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren to the brethren of the Gentiles in AnÆti-och and SyÆria and Ci-liÆci-a, greetings.

15:24  Inasmuch as we have heard that some went out from among us and troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, 'that you must be circumcised and keep the law'-to whom we gave no [such] command-

24  Forasmuch as we have heard that certain who went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls; to whom we gave no commandment;

24  We have heard that certain men have gone out and disturbed you with words, thus upsetting your souls, saying, You must be circumcised, and keep the law: on these things we have never commanded them.

15:25  it seemed best to us, having come to be of the same mind, to send men being chosen to you, with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

25  Therefore, we have considered the matter while we are assembled, and we have chosen and sent men to you with our beloved Paul and BarÆna-bas,

15:26  men having given over their lives for the sake of the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

26  men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

26  Men who have dedicated their lives for the name of our LORD Jesus Christ.

15:27  We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also tell you the same things by word [of mouth].

27  Therefore, we have sent Judas and Silas, who themselves also will, with the spoken word, reaffirm to you the same things.

27  And we have sent with them Judas and Silas, so that they may tell you the same things by word of mouth.

15:28  For it seemed best to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to put on you no greater burden except for these necessary things

28  For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to impose no further burden upon you, other than these necessary things

28  For it is the will of the Holy Spirit and of us, to lay upon you no additional burden than these necessary things;

15:29  that you abstain from meat offered to idols, and from blood, and from [anything] strangled, and from fornication; from which keeping yourselves back, you will do well. Farewell.

15:30  Then having been dismissed, they came to Antioch; and having gathered the multitude together, they delivered the letter.

30  Now when those who were sent came to AnÆti-och and when the whole people were gathered together, they delivered the epistle

15:31  And when they had read it, they rejoiced over its encouragement.

31  Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.

15:32  Now Judas and Silas, themselves being prophets also, encouraged and strengthened the brothers with many words.

32  And Judas and Silas, being themselves also prophets, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

32  But Judas and Silas, being also prophets themselves, consoled the brothers with many words, and they were strengthened.

15:33  And when time had passed, they were dismissed with peace from the brothers to the apostles.

33  And after they had spent some time [there], they were dismissed in peace from the brethren unto those that had sent them forth.

15:34  - - -

34  [But it seemed good unto Silas to abide there.]

34  Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.

15:35  But Paul and Barnabas spent time in Antioch, teaching and preaching the good news of the word of YHWH, with many others also.

35  And Paul and Barnabas remained at Antioch, with many others, teaching and evangelizing the Word of the Lord.

35  Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

15:36  Then after some days Paul said to Barnabas, "Let us return now and visit our brothers in each city in which we proclaimed the word of YHWH, and see how they are doing."

15:37  But Barnabas desired to take along with them John called Mark.

37  And Barnabas was minded to take with them John also, who was called Mark.

37  Now BarÆna-bas wanted to take John who was also called Mark.

15:38  But Paul considered it fitting not to take along with them the one who withdrew from them in Pamphylia, and who had not gone together with them to the work.

38  But Paul thought not good to take with them him who withdrew from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.

38  But Paul was saying that he ought not to be received, since he withdrew from them at Pamphylia, and he had not gone with them in the work.

15:39  Therefore a sharp disagreement arose so that they were separated from one another. And Barnabas, taking along Mark, sailed to Cyprus.

39  And there arose a sharp contention, so that they parted asunder one from the other, and Barnabas took Mark with him, and sailed away unto Cyprus;

39  And because of this dispute, Paul and BarÆna-bas separated from each other: and BarÆna-bas took Mark, and they sailed to CyÆprus,

15:40  But Paul, choosing Silas, departed, being given over to the grace of God by the brothers.

40  And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.

15:41  And he passed through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

41  And he traveled through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the Churches, instructing them to keep the precepts of the Apostles and the elders.

41  And he traveled through SyrÆi-a and CiliÆcia, establishing churches.
