1  Hear ye the word which YHWH speaketh unto you, O house of Israel;

1  Listen to the word that the Lord has spoken concerning you, O house of Israel.

2  thus saith YHWH: Learn not the way of the nations, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the nations are dismayed at them.

2  Thus saith the Lord, Learn ye not the ways of the heathen, and be not alarmed at the signs of the sky; for they are alarmed at them, falling on their faces.

2  Thus says the Lord: “Do not choose to learn according to the ways of the Gentiles. And do not be willing to dread the signs of heaven, which the Gentiles fear.

3  For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for it is but a tree which one cutteth out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the axe.

3  For the laws of the people are empty. For the work of the hand of the craftsman has cut a tree from the forest with an axe.

3  For the gods of the Gentiles are nothing; they are cut from a tree in the forest, the work of the hands of a carpenter, things made with a plane.

4  They deck it with silver and with gold, they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

4  They are beautified with silver and gold, they fix them with hammers and nails;

5  They are like a pillar in a garden of cucumbers, and speak not; they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good.

5  they will set them up that they may not move; it is wrought silver, they will not walk, it is forged silver(10:5) They must certainly be borne, for they cannot ride of themselves. Fear them not; for they cannot do any evil, and there is no good in them.

5  They have been fabricated in the likeness of a palm tree, and they will not speak. They must be carried to be moved, because they do not have the ability to walk. Therefore, do not be willing to fear them, for they can do neither evil nor good.”

6  There is none like unto Thee, O YHWH; Thou art great, and Thy name is great in might.

6  O Lord, there is nothing similar to you. You are great, and your name is great in strength.

7  Who would not fear Thee, O king of the nations? For it befitteth Thee; forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their royalty, there is none like unto Thee.

7  Who will not fear you, O King of the nations? For honor is yours. Among all the wise of the nations, and within all their kingdoms, there is nothing similar to you.

8  But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the vanities by which they are instructed are but a stock;

8  Together, they will all be proven to be unwise and foolish. The doctrine of their vanity is made of wood.

8  But altogether the vain doctrines of wooden image worship shall be utterly destroyed and consumed.

9  Silver beaten into plates which is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the craftsman and of the hands of the goldsmith; blue and purple is their clothing; they are all the work of skilful men.

9  brought from Tharsis, gold will come from Mophaz, and the work of goldsmiths: they are all the works of craftsmen, they will clothe themselves with blue and scarlet.

9  Fine silver is brought from Tarshish and gold from Ophir; they are the work of the carpenter and of the hands of the silversmith; blue and purple is their clothing; they are woven by cunning men.

10  But YHWH God is the true God, He is the living God, and the everlasting King; at His wrath the earth trembleth, and the nations are not able to abide His indignation.

10  But the Lord is the true God. He is the living God and the everlasting King. Before his indignation, the earth will shake. And the Gentiles will not be able to withstand his threats.

11  Thus shall ye say unto them: 'The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, these shall perish from the earth, and from under the heavens.'

11  “And so, you shall speak to them in this way: The gods that have not made heaven and earth, let them perish from the earth and from among those places which are under heaven.

12  He that hath made the earth by His power, that hath established the world by His wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by His understanding;

12  It is the Lord that made the earth by his strength, who set up the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the sky,

12  He made the earth by his power, he prepared the world in his wisdom, and he stretched out the heavens with his understanding.

13  At the sound of His giving a multitude of waters in the heavens, when He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; when He maketh lightnings with the rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of His treasuries;

13  and set abundance of waters in the sky, and brought up clouds from the ends of the earth; he made lightnings for the rain, and brought forth light out of his treasures.

14  Every man is proved to be brutish, without knowledge, every goldsmith is put to shame by the graven image, his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

14  Every man has acted foolishly because of lack of knowledge; all those who work in gold are ashamed because of the graven images which they made; for molten images are falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

15  They are vanity, a work of delusion; in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

15  These things are empty, and they are a work deserving of ridicule. In the time of their visitation, they will perish.

16  Not like these is the portion of Jacob; for He is the former of all things, and Israel is the tribe of His inheritance; YHWH of hosts is His name.

16  Such is not the portion of Jacob; for he that formed all things, he is his inheritance; the Lord is his name.

16  Jacob’s portion is not like their portion. For his portion is from the One who formed all things. And Israel is the staff of his inheritance. The Lord of hosts is his name.

17  Gather up thy wares from the ground, O thou that abidest in the siege.

17  He has gathered thy substance from without the lodged in choice vessels.

18  For thus saith YHWH: Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this time, and will distress them, that they may feel it.

19  Woe is me for my hurt! My wound is grievous; but I said: 'This is but a sickness, and I must bear it.'

19  Alas for thy ruin! thy plague is grievous: and I said, Surely this is thy wound, and it has overtaken thee.

19  Woe to me, concerning my destruction! My wound is very grievous. And yet I said: Clearly, this infirmity is mine, and I will carry it.

20  My tent is spoiled, and all my cords are broken; my children are gone forth of me, and they are not; there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.

20  Thy tabernacle is in a ruinous state, it has perished; and all thy curtains have been torn asunder: my children and my cattle are no more: there is no more any place for my tabernacle, nor place for my curtains.

21  For the shepherds are become brutish, and have not inquired of YHWH; therefore they have not prospered, and all their flocks are scattered.

21  For the pastors have acted foolishly, and they have not sought the Lord. Because of this, they have not understood, and all their flock has been dispersed.

22  Hark! a report, behold, it cometh, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, a dwelling-place of jackals.

22  Behold, there comes a sound of a noise, and a great earthquake from the land of the north, to make the cities of Juda a desolation, and a resting-place for ostriches.

23  O YHWH, I know that man's way is not his own; it is not in man to direct his steps as he walketh.

23  I know, O Lord, that man’s way is not his own; neither shall a man go, and direct his going.

23  I know that the ways of the LORD are not like the ways of men; he does not walk as a man directing his steps.

24  O YHWH, correct me, but in measure; not in Thine anger, lest Thou diminish me.

24  Correct me, O Lord, yet truly, do so with judgment, and not in your fury. Otherwise, you will reduce me to nothing.

25  Pour out Thy wrath upon the nations that know Thee not, and upon the families that call not on Thy name; for they have devoured Jacob, yea, they have devoured him and consumed him, and have laid waste his habitation.

25  Pour out your indignation upon the nations that have not known you, and upon the provinces that have not invoked your name. For they have fed upon Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and they have utterly destroyed his honor.

11:1  The word that came to Jeremiah from YHWH, saying

11:2  'Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;

11:3  and say thou unto them: Thus saith YHWH, the God of Israel: Cursed be the man that heareth not the words of this covenant,

3  and thou shalt say to them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Cursed is the man, who shall not hearken to the words of this covenant,

3  And you shall say to them. Thus says the LORD God of Israel: Cursed be the man who does not obey the words of this covenant

11:4  which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying: Hearken to My voice, and do them, according to all which I command you; so shall ye be My people, and I will be your God;

11:5  that I may establish the oath which I swore unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day.' Then answered I, and said: 'Amen, O YHWH.'

5  So shall I uphold the oath which I swore to your fathers, that I would give them a land flowing with milk and honey, just as it is this day.” And I answered by saying: “Amen, O Lord.”

11:6  And YHWH said unto me: 'Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying: Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.

6  And the Lord said to me: “Shout all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying: Listen to the words of the covenant, and do them.

11:7  For I earnestly forewarned your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, forewarning betimes and often, saying: Hearken to My voice.

7  For when testing, I tested your fathers in the day when I led them away from the land of Egypt, even until this day. Rising early, I tested them, and I said: Listen to my voice.

7  For I have solemnly testified against your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day; I sent messengers in advance, warning them, saying, Obey my voice.

11:8  Yet they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the stubbornness of their evil heart; therefore I brought upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did them not.'

8  But they did them not.

8  But they did not listen, nor did they incline their ear. Instead, each one of them walked in the depravity of his own evil heart. And so, I brought over them all the words of this covenant, which I instructed them to do. But they would not do them.”

11:9  And YHWH said unto me: 'A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

9  And the Lord said to me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Juda, and among the dwellers in Jerusalem.

11:10  They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear My words; and they are gone after other gods to serve them; the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken My covenant which I made with their fathers.

10  They have returned to the former iniquities of their fathers, who refused to listen to my words. And likewise, they have gone after strange gods, so that they may serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have treated as void my covenant, which I made with their fathers.

11:11  Therefore thus saith YHWH: Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto Me, I will not hearken unto them.

11  For this reason, thus says the Lord: Behold, I will lead evils over them, from which they will not be able to escape. And they will cry out to me, and I will not heed them.

11:12  Then shall the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem go and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer; but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

12  And the cities of Juda and the dwellers in Jerusalem shall go, and cry to the gods to whom they burn incense; which shall not deliver them in the time of their troubles.

12  And the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go forth, and they will cry out to the gods, to whom they offer libations, and they will not save them in the time of their affliction.

11:13  For according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to the shameful thing, even altars to offer unto Baal.

11:14  Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them; for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto Me for their trouble.'

14  And thou, pray not for this people, and intercede not for them in supplication and prayer: for I will not hear in the day in which they call upon me, in the day of their affliction.

14  Therefore, you should not choose to pray for this people, and you should not take up praise and petitioning on their behalf. For I will not heed them in the time of their outcry to me, in the time of their affliction.

11:15  What hath My beloved to do in My house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the hallowed flesh is passed from thee? When thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.

15  Why has my beloved wrought abomination in my house? will prayers and holy offerings take away thy wickedness from thee, or shalt thou escape by these things?

11:16  YHWH called thy name a leafy olive-tree, fair with goodly fruit; with the noise of a great tumult He hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.

16  The Lord called thy name a fair olive tree, of a goodly shade in appearance, at the noise of its being lopped, fire was kindled against it; great is the affliction coming upon thee: her branches are become good for nothing.

16  The Lord has called your name: a beautiful, fruitful, splendid, and productive olive tree. At the voice of a word, a great fire was kindled in it, and its greenery was burned up.

11:17  For YHWH of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have wrought for themselves in provoking Me by offering unto Baal.

17  And the Lord that planted thee has pronounced evils against thee, because of the iniquity of the house of Israel and the house of Juda, whatsoever they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger by burning incense to Baal.

17  And the Lord of hosts, who planted you, has pronounced an evil against you, concerning the evils of the house of Israel and the house of Judah, which they have done to themselves so as to provoke me, by offering libations to Baal.”

11:18  And YHWH gave me knowledge of it, and I knew it; then Thou showedst me their doings.

18  O Lord, teach me, and I shall know: then I saw their practices.

18  But you, O Lord, have revealed this to me, and I have understood. Then you displayed their efforts to me.

11:19  But I was like a docile lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me: 'Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.'

19  But I as an innocent lamb led to the slaughter, knew not: against me they devised an evil device, saying, Come and let us put wood into his bread, and let us utterly destroy him from off the land of the living, and let his name not be remembered any more.

19  And I was like a meek lamb, who is being carried to be a victim. And I did not realize that they had devised plans against me, saying: “Let us place wood upon his bread, and let us eradicate him from the land of the living, and let his name no longer be remembered.”

11:20  But, O YHWH of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see Thy vengeance on them; for unto Thee have I revealed my cause.

20  O Lord, that judgest righteously, trying the reins and hearts, let me see thy vengeance taken upon them, for to thee I have declared my cause.

11:21  Therefore thus saith YHWH concerning the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying: 'Thou shalt not prophesy in the name of the YHWH, that thou die not by our hand';

21  Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the men of Anathoth, that seek my life, that say, Thou shalt not prophesy at all in the name of the Lord, but if thou dost, thou shalt die by our hands

21  “Because of this, thus says the Lord to the men of Anathoth, who are seeking your life, and who are saying: ‘You shall not prophesy in the name of the Lord, and you shall not die by our hands.’

11:22  therefore thus saith YHWH of hosts: Behold, I will punish them; the young men shall die by the sword, their sons and their daughters shall die by famine;

22  behold, I will visit them: their young men shall die by the sword; and their sons and their daughters shall die of famine

22  Because of this, thus says the Lord of hosts: Behold, I will visit upon them. Their young men will die by the sword. Their sons and their daughters will die by famine.

11:23  And there shall be no remnant unto them; for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.

12:1  Right wouldest Thou be, O YHWH, were I to contend with Thee, yet will I reason with Thee: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? Wherefore are all they secure that deal very treacherously?

1  Righteous art thou, O Lord, that I may make my defence to thee, yea, I will speak to thee of judgements. Why is it that the way of ungodly men prospers? that all that deal very treacherously are flourishing?

1  Certainly, O Lord, you are just. But if I may contend with you, while still speaking what is just to you: Why does the way of the impious prosper? Why is it well with all those who transgress and act unfairly?

12:2  Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root; they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit; Thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.

2  You planted them, and they took root. They are prospering and bearing fruit. You are near to their mouths, but far from their hearts.

12:3  But Thou, O YHWH, knowest me, Thou seest me, and triest my heart toward Thee; pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

3  But thou, Lord, knowest me; thou hast proved my heart before thee; purify them for the day of their slaughter.

3  And you, O Lord, have known me well. You have seen me, and you have tested my heart with you. Gather them together like a flock for the sacrifice and sanctify them for the day of slaughter.

12:4  How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of the whole field wither? For the wickedness of them that dwell therein, the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said: 'He seeth not our end.'

4  How long shall the earth mourn? And how long shall the plants of every field whither because of the wickedness of the inhabitants within them? It has consumed the wild animals and the birds. For they said: “He will not see our very end.”

12:5  'If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? And though in a land of peace thou art secure, yet how wilt thou do in the thickets of the Jordan?

5  “If you have struggled to run on foot, how will you be able to compete with horses? And if you have been secure in a land of peace, what will you do about the arrogance of the Jordan?

12:6  For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee, even they have cried aloud after thee; believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.'

6  For even your brothers, and the house of your father, even these have fought against you. And they have cried out after you with loud voice: ‘You should not believe them, when they speak good things to you.’ ”

6  For since your brethren and the house of your father, even they have dealt treacherously against you; yea, they also have gossiped about you; believe them not when they speak well of you.

12:7  I have forsaken My house, I have cast off My heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of My soul into the hand of her enemies.

7  “I have abandoned my house. I have disowned my inheritance. I have given my beloved soul into the hand of its enemies.

12:8  My heritage is become unto Me as a lion in the forest; she hath uttered her voice against Me; therefore have I hated her.

8  My inheritance has become for me like a lion in the forest. It has uttered a voice against me, therefore, I have hated it.

12:9  Is My heritage unto Me as a speckled bird of prey? Are the birds of prey against her round about? Come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, bring them to devour.

9  Is not my inheritance to me a hyaena’s cave, or a cave round about her? Go ye, gather together all the wild beasts of the field, and let them come to devour her.

12:10  Many shepherds have destroyed My vineyard, they have trodden My portion under foot, they have made My pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

10  Many pastors have demolished my vineyard. They have trampled my portion. They have made my desirable portion into a desert of solitude.

12:11  They have made it a desolation, it mourneth unto Me, being desolate; the whole land is made desolate, because no man layeth it to heart.

11  it is made a complete ruin: for my sake the whole land has been utterly ruined, because there is none that lays the matter to heart.

11  They have squandered it, and it has grieved concerning me. The entire earth has become utterly desolate, because there is no one who understands with the heart.”

12:12  Upon all the high hills in the wilderness spoilers are come; for the sword of YHWH devoureth from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land, no flesh hath peace.

12  The ravagers are come to every passage in the wilderness: for the sword of the Lord will devour from one end of the land to the other: no flesh has any peace.

12  The devastators have arrived, over all the ways of the wilderness. For the sword of the Lord will devour, from one end of the earth even to its furthest limits. There is no peace for all that is flesh.

12:13  They have sown wheat, and have reaped thorns; they have put themselves to pain, they profit not; be ye then ashamed of your increase, because of the fierce anger of YHWH.

13  Sow wheat, and reap thorns; their portions shall not profit them: be ashamed of your boasting, because of reproach before the Lord.

13  They sowed wheat, but they reaped thorns. They received an inheritance, but it will not benefit them. You will be confounded by your own fruits, because of the wrath of the fury of the Lord.

12:14  Thus saith YHWH: As for all Mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused My people Israel to inherit, behold, I will pluck them up from off their land, and will pluck up the house of Judah from among them.

12:15  And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them up, I will again have compassion on them; and I will bring them back, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.

15  And when I have rooted them out, I will turn back and take pity on them. And I will lead them back, one man to his inheritance, and another man to his land.

15  And after I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his heritage and every man to his land.

12:16  And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of My people to swear by My name: 'As YHWH liveth,' even as they taught My people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built up in the midst of My people.

16  And this shall be: if they are taught and they learn the ways of my people, so that they swear by my name, ‘As the Lord lives,’ just as they had taught my people to swear by Baal, then they will be built up in the midst of my people.

12:17  But if they will not hearken, then will I pluck up that nation, plucking up and destroying it, saith YHWH.

17  But if they will not obey, then I will utterly pluck up and destroy this people, says the LORD.

13:1  Thus said YHWH unto me: 'Go, and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.'

1  Thus saith the Lord, Go and procure for thyself a linen girdle, and put it about thy loins, and let it not be put in water.

1  Thus says the Lord to me: “Go, and obtain for yourself a linen waistcloth. And you shall place it over your loins, and you shall not put it into water.”

13:2  So I got a girdle according to the word of YHWH, and put it upon my loins.

2  So I procured the girdle according to the word of the Lord, and put it about my loins.

2  And so I obtained a waistcloth, according to the word of the Lord, and I placed it around my loins.

13:3  And the word of YHWH came unto me the second time, saying

13:4  'Take the girdle that thou hast gotten, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Perath, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock.'

4  “Take the waistcloth, which you obtained, which is around your loins, and, rising up, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in an opening of the rock.”

13:5  So I went, and hid it in Perath, as YHWH commanded me.

5  And so I went, and I hid it by the Euphrates, just as the Lord had instructed me.

5  So I went and buried it by the Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.

13:6  And it came to pass after many days, that YHWH said unto me: 'Arise, go to Perath, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.'

6  And it happened that, after many days, the Lord said to me: “Rise up, go to the Euphrates, and take from there the waistcloth, which I instructed you to hide there.”

13:7  Then I went to Perath, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

7  So I went to the river Euphrates, and dug, and took the girdle out of the place where I had buried it: and, behold, it was rotten, utterly good for nothing.

7  And so I went to the Euphrates, and I dug up and took the waistcloth from the place where I had hidden it. And behold, the waistcloth had rotted, so that it was not fit for any use.

13:8  Then the word of YHWH came unto me, saying

8  And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Thus saith the Lord,

13:9  Thus saith YHWH: After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem,

9  Thus will I mar the pride of Juda, and the pride of Jerusalem;

9  Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: In this manner will I destroy the proud men of Judah and the proud men of Jerusalem that are many.

13:10  even this evil people, that refuse to hear My words, that walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and are gone after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, that it be as this girdle, which is profitable for nothing.

10  This most wicked people, they are not willing to listen to my words, for they walk in the depravity of their own heart, and they have gone after strange gods, so as to serve them and to adore them. And so, they will become like this waistcloth, which is not fit for any use.

13:11  For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto Me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith YHWH, that they might be unto Me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory; but they would not hearken.

11  For as a girdle cleaves about the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave to myself the house of Israel, and the whole house of Juda; that they might be to me a famous people, and a praise, and a glory: but they did not hearken to me.

11  For just as the waistcloth clings to the loins of a man, so have I brought close to me the entire house of Israel and the entire house of Judah, says the Lord, so that they would be to me: a people, and a name, and a praise, and a glory. But they did not listen.

13:12  Moreover thou shalt speak unto them this word: Thus saith YHWH, the God of Israel: 'Every bottle is filled with wine'; and when they shall say unto thee: 'Do we not know that every bottle is filled with wine?'

12  And thou shalt say to this people, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and it shall come to pass, if they shall say to thee, Shall we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine? that thou shalt say to them,

13:13  Then shalt thou say unto them: Thus saith YHWH: Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

13  Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will fill the inhabitants of this land, and their kings the sons of David that sit upon their throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and Juda and all the dwellers in Jerusalem, with strong drink.

13  And you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, and the kings from the stock of David who sit upon his throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, unto inebriation.

13:14  And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith YHWH; I will not pity, nor spare, nor have compassion, that I should not destroy them.

14  And I will scatter them a man and his brother, and their fathers and their sons together: I will not have compassion, saith the Lord, and I will not spare, neither will I pity to save them from destruction.

14  And I will scatter them and separate them every man from his brother, even fathers and their children together, says the LORD; I will not pity, nor have mercy, nor spare, but destroy them.

13:15  Hear ye, and give ear, be not proud; for YHWH hath spoken.

15  Hear and pay close attention. Do not choose to lift yourself up, for the Lord has spoken.

13:16  Give glory to YHWH your God, before it grow dark, and before your feet stumble upon the mountains of twilight, and, while ye look for light, He turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

16  Give glory to the Lord your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and ye shall wait for light, and behold the shadow of death, and they shall be brought into darkness.

13:17  But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret for your pride; and mine eyes shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because YHWH'S flock is carried away captive.

17  But if ye will not hearken, your soul shall weep in secret because of pride, and your eyes shall pour down tears, because the Lord’s flock is sorely bruised.

17  But if you will not listen to this, then my soul will weep in secret before the face of your pride. It will weep bitterly, and my eyes will flow with tears, because the flock of the Lord has been taken captive.

13:18  Say thou unto the king and to the queen-mother: 'Sit ye down low; for your headtires are come down, even your beautiful crown.'

18  Say ye to the king and the princes, Humble yourselves, and sit down; for your crown of glory is removed from your head.

18  “Say to the king and to the female ruler: Humble yourselves, sit down. For the crown of your glory has gone down from your head.

13:19  The cities of the South are shut up, and there is none to open them; Judah is carried away captive all of it; it is wholly carried away captive.

19  The cities toward the south were shut, and there was none to open them: Juda is removed into captivity, they have suffered a complete removal.

13:20  Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north; where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

20  Lift up thine eyes, O Jerusalem, and behold them that come from the north; where is the flock that was given thee, the sheep of thy glory?

20  Lift up your eyes and see, you who are arriving from the north. Where is the flock that was given to you, your famous cattle?

13:21  What wilt thou say, when He shall set the friends over thee as head, whom thou thyself hast trained against thee? Shall not pangs take hold of thee, as of a woman in travail?

21  What wilt thou say when they shall visit thee, for thou didst teach them lessons for rule against thyself; shall not pangs seize thee as a woman in travail?

21  What will you say when he visits upon you? For you have taught them against you, and you have instructed them with your own head. Will not pains take hold of you, as with a woman in labor?

13:22  And if thou say in thy heart: 'Wherefore are these things befallen me?'--for the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts uncovered, and thy heels suffer violence.

22  But if you say in your heart, ‘Why have these things happened to me?’ it is because of the greatness of your iniquity that your shame has been uncovered and the soles of your feet have been defiled.

22  And if you say in your heart, Why have these things come upon me? For the greatness of your iniquity are your skirts uncovered and your heels made bare.

13:23  Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? Then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

23  If the Ethiopian shall change his skin, or the leopardess her spots, then shall ye be able to do good, having learnt evil.

23  Just as a Hindu cannot change his skin or a leopard his spots, you also cannot do good because you are accustomed to do evil.

13:24  Therefore will I scatter them, as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.

24  So I scattered them as sticks carried by the wind into the wilderness.

24  And I will scatter them like chaff, which is carried away by the wind in the desert.

13:25  This is thy lot, the portion measured unto thee from Me, saith YHWH; because thou hast forgotten Me, and trusted in falsehood.

25  Thus is thy lot, and the reward of your disobedience to me, saith the Lord; as thou didst forget me, and trust in lies,

25  This is your lot, and this is the portion of your measure from me, says the Lord, because you have forgotten me, and you have had confidence in what is false.

13:26  Therefore will I also uncover thy skirts upon thy face, and thy shame shall appear.

13:27  Thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy harlotry, on the hills in the field have I seen thy detestable acts. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! thou wilt not be made clean! When shall it ever be?

27  For I have seen your adulteries, and your neighing for the wickedness of your fornication, and your abominations upon the hills in the field. Woe to you, Jerusalem! How much longer before you will be made clean after me?”

14:1  The word of YHWH that came to Jeremiah concerning the droughts.

1  AND THE WORD OF THE LORD CAME TO JEREMIAS CONCERNING THE DROUGHT.

14:2  Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish, they bow down in black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.

2  Judea has mourned, and her gates are emptied, and are darkened upon the earth; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.

14:3  And their nobles send their lads for water: they come to the pits, and find no water; their vessels return empty; they are ashamed and confounded, and cover their heads.

3  And her nobles have sent their little ones to the water: they came to the wells, and found no water: and brought back their vessels empty.

3  The greater ones have sent their lesser ones to the water. They went to draw water; they did not find water; they carried their vessels back empty. They were confounded and afflicted, and so they covered their heads.

14:4  Because of the ground which is cracked, for there hath been no rain in the land, the plowmen are ashamed, they cover their heads.

4  And the labours of the land failed, because there was no rain: the husbandmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.

4  Because of the devastation of the earth, because rain did not fall upon the earth, the farmers were confounded; they covered their heads.

14:5  Yea, the hind also in the field calveth, and forsaketh her young, because there is no grass,

5  And hinds calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass.

5  For even the doe has given birth in the field, and then left it behind. For there was no grass.

14:6  And the wild asses stand on the high hills, they gasp for air like jackals; their eyes fail, because there is no herbage.

6  The wild asses stood by the forests, and snuffed up the wind; their eyes failed, because there was no grass.

6  And the wild donkeys stood upon the rocks; like dragons, they drew in the wind, but their eyes failed. For there was no grass.”

14:7  Though our iniquities testify against us, O YHWH, work Thou for Thy name's sake; for our backslidings are many, we have sinned against Thee.

7  Our sins have risen up against us: O Lord, do thou for us for thine own sake; for our sins are many before thee; for we have sinned against thee.

7  “O Lord, if our iniquities have responded against us, let it be for the sake of your name. For our rebellions are many; we have sinned against you.

14:8  O Thou hope of Israel, the Saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest Thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?

8  O Lord, thou art the hope of Israel, and deliverest us in time of troubles; why art thou become as a sojourner upon the land, or as one born in the land, yet turning aside for a resting-place?

8  O Hope of Israel, its Savior in time of tribulation, why would you be like a sojourner in the land, and like a traveler turning aside for lodging?

14:9  Why shouldest thou be as a man overcome, as a mighty man that cannot save? Yet Thou, O YHWH, art in the midst of us, and Thy name is called upon us; leave us not.

9  Why would you be like a wandering man, like a strong man who is unable to save? But you, O Lord, are with us, and your name is invoked over us, so do not abandon us!”

14:10  Thus saith YHWH unto this people: Even so have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet; therefore the YHWH doth not accept them, now will He remember their iniquity, and punish their sins.

10  Thus saith the Lord to this people, They have loved to wander, and they have not spared, therefore God has not prospered them; now will he remember their iniquity.

10  Thus says the Lord to this people, who have loved to move their feet, and who have not rested, but who have not pleased the Lord: “Now he will remember their iniquities, and now he will visit against their sins.”

14:11  And YHWH said unto me: 'Pray not for this people for their good.

11  And the Lord said to me, Pray not for this people for their good

14:12  When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt-offering and meal-offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.'

12  for though they fast, I will not hear their supplication; and though they offer whole-burnt-offerings and sacrifices, I will take no pleasure in them: for I will consume them with sword, and with famine, and with pestilence.

14:13  Then said I: 'Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them: Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.'

13  And I said, O ever living Lord! behold, their prophets prophesy, and say, Ye shall not see a sword, nor shall famine be among you; for I will give truth and peace on the land, and in this place.

13  Then I said, Hear me, I beseech thee, O LORD God! Behold, the prophets say to the people, You shall not see the sword, neither shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace and justice in this country.

14:14  Then YHWH said unto me: 'The prophets prophesy lies in My name; I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spoke I unto them; they prophesy unto you a lying vision, and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their own heart.

14  Then the Lord said to me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, and I commanded them not, and I spoke not to them: for they prophesy to you false visions, and divinations, and auguries, and devices of their own heart.

14  And the Lord said to me: “The prophets prophesy falsely in my name. I did not send them, and I did not instruct them, and I have not spoken to them. They prophesy to you a lying vision, and a divination, and a fraud, and a seduction from their own heart.

14:15  Therefore thus saith YHWH: As for the prophets that prophesy in My name, and I sent them not, yet they say: Sword and famine shall not be in this land, by sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed;

15  For this reason, thus says the Lord about the prophets who prophesy in my name, whom I have not sent, who say: ‘Sword and famine will not be in this land.’ By sword and famine those prophets will be consumed.

14:16  and the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters; for I will pour their evil upon them.'

14:17  And thou shalt say this word unto them: Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease; for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.

14:18  If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! And if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! For both the prophet and the priest are gone about to a land, and knew it not.

18  “If I go out into the fields: behold, those slain by the sword. And if I enter into the city: behold, those weakened by famine. Likewise, the prophet, too, and the priest, have gone into a land that they did not know.

14:19  Hast Thou utterly rejected Judah? Hath Thy soul loathed Zion? Why hast Thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and behold terror!

19  Could you have utterly cast out Judah? Or has your soul abhorred Zion? Then why have you struck us, so much so that there is no health for us? We have waited for peace, but there is nothing good, and for the time of healing, and behold, trouble.

14:20  We acknowledge, O YHWH, our wickedness, even the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against Thee.

20  We know, O Lord, our sins, and the iniquities of our fathers: for we have sinned before thee.

20  O Lord, we acknowledge our impieties, the iniquities of our fathers, that we have sinned against you.

14:21  Do not contemn us, for Thy name's sake, do not dishonour the throne of Thy glory; remember, break not Thy covenant with us.

21  Refrain for thy name’s sake, destroy not the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.

21  For the sake of your name, do not give us over into disgrace. And do not dishonor in us the throne of your glory. Remember, do not make void, your covenant with us.

14:22  Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? Art not Thou He, O YHWH our God, and do we not wait for Thee? For Thou hast made all these things.

15:1  Then said YHWH unto me: 'Though Moses and Samuel stood before Me, yet My mind could not be toward this people; cast them out of My sight, and let them go forth.

1  And the Lord said to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before my face, my soul could not be toward them: dismiss this people, and let them go forth.

1  THEN the LORD said to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me pleading, yet my soul would not be pleased with this people; but I will cast them out of my sight and let them go.

15:2  And it shall come to pass, when they say unto thee: Whither shall we go forth? then thou shall tell them: Thus saith YHWH: Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for captivity, to captivity.

2  And it shall be, if they say to thee, Whither shall we go forth? then thou shalt say to them, Thus saith the Lord; As many as are for death, to death; and as many as are for famine, to famine; and as many as are for the sword, to the sword; and as many as are for captivity, to captivity.

2  And if they say to you, ‘Where shall we go?’ you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord: Those who go to death, shall go to death. And those who go to the sword, shall go to the sword, and those go to famine, shall go to famine, and those who go to captivity, shall go to captivity.

15:3  And I will appoint over them four kinds, saith YHWH: the sword to slay, and the dogs to drag, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the earth, to devour and to destroy.

3  And I will visit against them in four ways, says the Lord: by the sword, to kill; and by dogs, to tear apart; and by the birds of the air and by the beasts of the earth, to devour and to scatter.

3  And I will decree against them four kinds of afflictions, says the LORD: The sword to slay, the dogs to tear, and the fowls of the air and the wild beasts of the earth to devour and destroy.

15:4  And I will cause them to be a horror among all the kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.

15:5  For who shall have pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? Or who shall bemoan thee? Or who shall turn aside to ask of thy welfare?

5  Who will spare thee, O Jerusalem? and who will fear for thee? or who will turn back to ask for thy welfare?

5  For who will take pity on you, O Jerusalem? Or who will feel sorrow for you? Or who will go to prayer for the sake of your peace?

15:6  Thou hast cast Me off, saith YHWH, thou art gone backward; Therefore do I stretch out My hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am weary with repenting.

6  You have abandoned me, says the Lord. You have gone backwards. And so, I will extend my hand over you, and I will destroy you. I have labored to plead with you.

6  You have forsaken me, says the LORD, you are gone backward; therefore I will stretch out my hand against you and destroy you; and I shall not spare you again.

15:7  And I fan them with a fan in the gates of the land; I bereave them of children, I destroy My people, since they return not from their ways.

7  And I will completely scatter them; in the gates of my people they are bereaved of children: they have destroyed my people because of their iniquities.

7  And I will scatter them with a winnowing fan at the gates of the land. I have killed and dispersed my people, and yet they have not turned back from their ways.

15:8  Their widows are increased to Me above the sand of the seas; I bring upon them, against the mother, a chosen one, even a spoiler at noonday; I cause anguish and terrors to fall upon her suddenly.

8  Their widows have been multiplied more than the sand of the sea: I have brought young men against the mother, even distress at noon-day: I have suddenly cast upon her trembling and anxiety.

15:9  She that hath borne seven languisheth; her spirit droopeth; her sun is gone down while it was yet day, she is ashamed and confounded; and the residue of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, saith YHWH.'

9  She who gave birth to seven has become weak. Her life has faded away. Her sun has set while it was still daytime. She has been confounded and shamed. And the remainder of them I will give over to the sword in the sight of their enemies, says the Lord.”

9  She who has borne seven children languishes; her pride is gone; her sun has gone down while it was yet day; she has been ashamed and confounded; and the rest of them I will deliver to the sword before their enemies, says the LORD.

15:10  Woe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have not lent, neither have men lent to me; yet every one of them doth curse me.

10  “O my mother, woe to me! Why did you conceive me, a man of strife, a man of discord to all the earth? I have not lent money at interest, nor has anyone lent money at interest to me. Yet everyone is cursing me.”

10  Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me a judge, a rebuker to the whole earth. I am neither a debtor, nor a creditor; yet all of them curse me.

15:11  YHWH said: 'Verily I will release thee for good; verily I will cause the enemy to make supplication unto thee in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.

11  Be it so, Lord, in their prosperity; surely I stood before thee in the time of their calamities, and in the time of their affliction, for their good against the enemy.

11  The Lord says: “Certainly, it will be well with your remnant. Certainly, I will run to meet you, in the time of affliction and in the time of tribulation, against the enemy.

15:12  Can iron break iron from the north and brass?

12  Will iron be known? whereas thy strength is a brazen covering.

12  For he is hard as iron and as brass.

15:13  Thy substance and thy treasures will I give for a spoil without price, and that for all thy sins, even in all thy borders.

13  Your riches and your treasures I will give over to be freely despoiled, because of all your sins, even throughout all your borders.

15:14  And I will make thee to pass with thine enemies into a land which thou knowest not; for a fire is kindled in My nostril, which shall burn upon you.'

14  And I will lead in your enemies from a land that you do not know. For a fire has been kindled in my fury; it will burn upon you.”

15:15  Thou, O YHWH, knowest; Remember me, and think of me, and avenge me of my persecutors; take me not away because of Thy long-suffering; know that for Thy sake I have suffered taunts.

15  O Lord, remember me, and visit me, and vindicate me before them that persecute me; do not bear long with them; know how I have met with reproach for thy sake, from those who set at nought thy words;

15  “You know me, O Lord. Remember me, and visit me, and watch over me, because of those who persecute me. In your patience, do not choose to let me endure. You know I have suffered reproach because of you.

15:16  Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and Thy words were unto me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart; because Thy name was called on me, O YHWH God of hosts.

16  consume them; and thy word shall be to me for the joy and gladness of my heart: for thy name has been called upon me, O Lord Almighty.

15:17  I sat not in the assembly of them that make merry, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of Thy hand; for Thou hast filled me with indignation.

17  I did not sit in the company of mockers, nor did I glorify myself before the presence of your hand. I sat alone, because you filled me with threats.

17  O LORD God of hosts, I did not sit in the assembly of the mockers, but I was afraid because of thy hand, and I sat alone; for thou hast filled me with indignation.

15:18  Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, so that it refuseth to be healed? Wilt Thou indeed be unto me as a deceitful brook, as waters that fail?

18  Why do they that grieve me prevail against me? my wound is severe; whence shall I be healed? it is indeed become to me as deceitful water, that has no faithfulness.

18  Why has my sorrow become never-ending, and why has my wound become so dire that it refuses to be cured? It has become for me like the deception of untrustworthy waters.”

15:19  Therefore thus saith YHWH: If thou return, and I bring thee back, thou shalt stand before Me; and if thou bring forth the precious out of the vile, thou shalt be as My mouth; let them return unto thee, but thou shalt not return unto them.

19  Because of this, thus says the Lord: “If you will be converted, I will convert you. And you will stand before my face. And you will separate what is precious from what is vile. You will be my mouthpiece. They will be converted to you, but you will not be converted to them.

15:20  And I will make thee unto this people a fortified brazen wall; and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith YHWH.

20  And I will present you to this people as a strong wall of brass. And they will fight against you, and they will not prevail. For I am with you, so as to save you and to rescue you, says the Lord.

15:21  And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.

21  for I am with thee to save thee, and to deliver thee out of the hand of wicked men; and I will ransom thee out of the hand of pestilent men.

21  And I will free you from hand of those who are most wicked, and I will redeem you from the hand of the powerful.”

16:1  The word of YHWH came also unto me, saying

1  And thou shalt not take a wife, saith the Lord God of Israel

1  And the word of the Lord came to me, saying

16:2  Thou shalt not take thee a wife, neither shalt thou have sons or daughters in this place.

2  and there shall be no son born to thee, nor daughter in this place.

2  “You shall not take a wife, and there shall be no sons or daughters for you in this place.

16:3  For thus saith YHWH concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bore them, and concerning their fathers that begot them in this land

3  For thus says the Lord concerning the sons and daughters who are conceived in this place, and concerning their mothers who give birth to them, and concerning their fathers, from whose stock they have been born in this land

16:4  They shall die of grievous deaths; they shall not be lamented, neither shall they be buried, they shall be as dung upon the face of the ground; and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcasses shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.

4  They will die from grievous mortal illnesses. They will not be mourned, and they will not be buried. They will be like manure on the face of the earth. And they will be consumed by sword and by famine. And their dead bodies will be food for the birds of the air and the beasts of the land.”

16:5  For thus saith YHWH: Enter not into the house of mourning, neither go to lament, neither bemoan them; for I have taken away My peace from this people, saith the YHWH, even mercy and compassion.

5  Thus saith the Lord, Enter not into their mourning feast, and go not to lament, and mourn not for them: for I have removed my peace from this people.

5  For thus says the Lord: “You shall not enter the house of feasting, and you shall not go to mourn or to console them. For I have taken away from this people, says the Lord, my peace, my mercy, and my pity.

16:6  Both the great and the small shall die in this land; they shall not be buried; neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them;

6  They shall not bewail them, nor make cuttings for them, and they shall not shave themselves for them

16:7  neither shall men break bread for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.

7  and there shall be no bread broken in mourning for them for consolation over the dead: they shall not give one to drink a cup for consolation over his father or his mother.

7  And they will not break bread among themselves for the sake of him who mourns, so as to console him over the dead. And they will not give them a chalice to drink, so as to console them over their father and mother.

16:8  And thou shalt not go into the house of feasting to sit with them, to eat and to drink.

8  Thou shalt not enter into the banquet-house, to sit with them to eat and to drink.

8  And so, you shall not enter the house of feasting, so as to sit with them, and to eat and drink.”

16:9  For thus saith YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.

16:10  And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt tell this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee: 'Wherefore hath YHWH pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the YHWH our God?'

10  And when you announce all these words to this people, they will say to you: ‘Why would the Lord pronounce all this great evil against us? What is our iniquity and what is our sin that we have committed against the Lord our God?’

16:11  then shalt thou say unto them: 'Because your fathers have forsaken Me, saith YHWH, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken Me, and have not kept My law;

11  Then thou shalt say to them, Because your fathers forsook me, saith the Lord, and went after strange gods and served them, and worshipped them, and forsook me, and kept not my law;

11  And you shall say to them: It is because your fathers abandoned me, says the Lord. And they went after strange gods, and they served them and adored them. And they abandoned me, and they did not keep my law.

16:12  and ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the stubbornness of his evil heart, so that ye hearken not unto Me;

12  But you have acted even worse than your fathers. For behold, each one walks after the depravity of his own evil heart, so that he does not listen to me.

12  And you have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, you walk away every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that you may not hearken to me;

16:13  therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that ye have not known, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night; forasmuch as I will show you no favour.'

13  And so, I will cast you out of this land, into a land that you do not know, and that your fathers did not know. And in that place, you will serve, day and night, strange gods who will not give you rest.

16:14  Therefore, behold, the days come, saith YHWH, that it shall no more be said: 'As the YHWH liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt,'

14  Now, behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when it shall no more be said, The LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

16:15  but: 'As YHWH liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the countries whither He had driven them'; and I will bring them back into their land that I gave unto their fathers.

15  but, The Lord lives, who brought up the house of Israel from the land of the north, and from all countries whither they were thrust out: and I will restore them to their own land, which I gave to their fathers.

15  but instead, ‘As the Lord lives, who led the sons of Israel away from the land of the north,’ and from all the lands to which I have cast them out. And I will lead them back into their own land, which I gave to their fathers.

16:16  Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith YHWH, and they shall fish them; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the clefts of the rocks.

16:17  For Mine eyes are upon all their ways, they are not hid from My face; Neither is their iniquity concealed from Mine eyes.

17  For my eyes are upon all their ways. They have not been hidden from my face, and their iniquity has not been concealed from my eyes.

16:18  And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have profaned My land; they have filled Mine inheritance with the carcasses of their detestable things and their abominations.

18  And I will recompense their mischiefs doubly, and their sins, whereby they have profaned my land with the carcases of their abominations, and with their iniquities, whereby they have trespassed against mine inheritance.

18  But first, I will repay their double iniquities and their sins. For they have defiled my land with the dead bodies of their idols, and they have filled my inheritance with their abominations.”

16:19  O YHWH, my strength, and my stronghold, and my refuge, in the day of affliction, unto Thee shall the nations come from the ends of the earth, and shall say: 'Our fathers have inherited nought but lies, vanity and things wherein there is no profit.'

19  O Lord, thou art my strength, and mine help, and my refuge in days of evil: to thee the Gentiles shall come from the end of the earth, and shall say, How vain were the idols which our fathers procured to themselves, and there is no help in them.

19  “O Lord, my strength, and my health, and my refuge in the day of tribulation: the Gentiles will approach you from the ends of the earth, and they will say: ‘Truly, our fathers possessed a lie, an emptiness that has not benefited them.’

16:20  Shall a man make unto himself gods, and they are no gods?

20  Will a man make gods for himself, whereas these are no gods?

20  Behold, men make gods to themselves, and they are no gods.

16:21  Therefore, behold, I will cause them to know, this once will I cause them to know My hand and My might; and they shall know that My name is YHWH.

21  “Concerning this, behold: I will make it clear to them, in this turn. I will reveal to them my hand and my virtue. And they will know that the Lord is my name.”

17:1  The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond; it is graven upon the tablet of their heart, and upon the horns of your altars.

1  “The sin of Judah has been written with a pen of iron and a point of diamond. It has been engraved upon the breadth of their heart and upon the horns of their shrines.

17:2  Like the symbols of their sons are their altars, and their Asherim are by the leafy trees, upon the high hills.

2  And their sons make a remembrance of their shrines, and their sacred groves, and their leafy trees on high mountains,

2  And their idols are under every green tree and upon every high hill and upon the mountains and in the open country.

17:3  O thou that sittest upon the mountain in the field, I will give thy substance and all thy treasures for a spoil, and thy high places, because of sin, throughout all thy borders.

3  by sacrificing in the field. And so, I will give over your strength and all your treasures to be despoiled, along with your exalted places of sin, within all your borders.

3  I will give all your riches, all your treasures to the spoil, and that which is throughout your territory, because of your sins.

17:4  And thou, even of thyself, shalt discontinue from thy heritage that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve thine enemies in the land which thou knowest not; for ye have kindled a fire in My nostril, which shall burn for ever.

4  And you will be left behind without your inheritance, which I gave to you. And I will cause you to serve your enemies in a land that you do not know. For you have kindled a fire in my fury; it shall burn, even unto eternity.”

4  And I will cause you to lose the inheritance which I have given you; and I will cause you to serve your enemies in the land which you do riot know; for you have kindled a fire in my anger, which shall burn for ever.

17:5  Thus saith YHWH: Cursed is the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the YHWH.

5  Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and will lean his arm of flesh upon him, while his heart departs from the Lord.

5  Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is a man who trusts in man, and who establishes what is flesh as his right arm, and whose heart withdraws from the Lord.

17:6  For he shall be like a tamarisk in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, a salt land and not inhabited.

6  And he shall be as the wild tamarisk in the desert: he shall not see when good comes; but he shall dwell in barren places, and in the wilderness, in a salt land which is not inhabited.

6  For he will be like a saltcedar tree in the desert. And he will not perceive it, when what is good has arrived. Instead, he will live in dryness, in a desert, in a land of salt, which is uninhabitable.

17:7  Blessed is the man that trusteth in YHWH, and whose trust the YHWH is.

7  But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord shall be.

17:8  For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out its roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but its foliage shall be luxuriant; and shall not be anxious in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

8  And he shall be as a thriving tree by the waters, and he shall cast forth his root toward a moist place: he shall not fear when heat comes, and there shall be upon him shady branches: he shall not fear in a year of drought, and he shall not fail to bear fruit.

8  And he will be like a tree planted beside waters, which sends out its roots to moist soil. And it will not fear when the heat arrives. And its leaves will be green. And in the time of drought, it will not be anxious, nor will it cease at any time to bear fruit.

17:9  The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceeding weak--who can know it?

9  The heart is deep beyond all things, and it is the man, and who can know him?

9  The heart is stubborn above all things; who can understand it?

17:10  I YHWH search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

10  I the Lord try the hearts, and prove the reins, to give to every one according to his ways, and according to the fruits of his devices.

10  I am the Lord, who examines the heart and tests the temperament, who gives to each one according to his way and according to the fruit of his own decisions.

17:11  As the partridge that broodeth over young which she hath not brought forth, so is he that getteth riches, and not by right; in the midst of his days he shall leave them, and at his end he shall be a fool.

11  The partridge utters her voice, she gathers eggs which she did not lay; so is a man gaining his wealth unjustly; in the midst of his days his riches shall leave him, and at his latter end he will be a fool.

17:12  Thou throne of glory, on high from the beginning, thou place of our sanctuary,

12  An exalted throne of glory is our sanctuary.

12  “A high and glorious throne is the place of our sanctification from the beginning.

17:13  Thou hope of Israel, YHWH! All that forsake Thee shall be ashamed; they that depart from Thee shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the YHWH, the fountain of living waters.

13  O Lord, the hope of Israel, let all that have left thee be ashamed, let them that have revolted be written on the earth, because they have forsaken the fountain of life, the Lord.

13  O Lord, Hope of Israel: all who forsake you will be confounded. Those who withdraw from you will be written into the earth. For they have abandoned the Lord, the Source of living waters.

17:14  Heal me, O YHWH, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved; for Thou art my praise.

17:15  Behold, they say unto me: 'Where is the word of YHWH? let it come now.'

15  Behold, they themselves are saying to me: ‘Where is the word of the Lord? Let it come.’

17:16  As for me, I have not hastened from being a shepherd after Thee; neither have I desired the woeful day; Thou knowest it; that which came out of my lips was manifest before Thee.

16  But I have not been weary of following thee, nor have I desired the day of man; thou knowest; the words that proceed out of my lips are before thy face.

16  But I am not troubled; I am following you as my shepherd. And I have not desired the day of man, as you know. That which has gone forth from my lips has been right in your sight.

17:17  Be not a ruin unto me; Thou art my refuge in the day of evil.

17  Be not to me a stranger, but spare me in the evil day.

17  May you not be a dread to me. You are my hope in the day of affliction.

17:18  Let them be ashamed that persecute me, but let not me be ashamed; Let them be dismayed, but let not me be dismayed; Bring upon them the day of evil, and destroy them with double destruction.

18  May those who persecute me be confounded, but may I not be confounded. May they be fearful, and may I not be fearful. Lead over them the day of affliction, and crush them with a double destruction.”

18  Let them be put to shame who persecute me, but let me not be put to shame; let them be defeated, but let me not be defeated; bring upon them the day of evil, and defeat them with double defeat.

17:19  Thus said YHWH unto me: Go, and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Judah come in, and by which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem;

19  Thus says the Lord to me: “Go, and stand at the gate of the sons of the people, through which the kings of Judah enter and depart, and at all the gates of Jerusalem.

19  Thus said the LORD to me: Go and stand at the public gate by which the kings of Judah enter and by which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem;

17:20  and say unto them: Hear ye the word of YHWH, ye kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, that enter in by these gates;

20  and thou shalt say to them, Hear the word of the Lord, ye kings of Juda, and all Judea, and all Jerusalem, all who go in at these gates

20  And you shall say to them: Listen to the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah, and all of Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, who enter through these gates.”

17:21  thus saith YHWH: Take heed for the sake of your souls, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem;

21  thus saith the Lord; Take heed to your souls, and take up no burdens on the sabbath-day, and go not forth through the gates of Jerusalem;

21  Thus says the Lord: “Guard your souls, and do not choose to carry heavy things on the day of the Sabbath, nor should you carry these things through the gates of Jerusalem.

17:22  neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work; but hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers;

22  and carry forth no burdens out of your houses on the sabbath-day, and ye shall do no work: sanctify the sabbath-day, as I commanded your fathers.

22  And do not be willing to cast burdens out of your houses on the day of the Sabbath, nor should you do any work. Sanctify the day of the Sabbath, just as I instructed your fathers.

17:23  but they hearkened not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction.

23  But they did not listen, nor did they incline their ear. Instead, they hardened their neck, lest they listen to me and receive discipline.

17:24  And it shall come to pass, if ye diligently hearken unto Me, saith YHWH, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the sabbath day, but to hallow the sabbath day, to do no work therein;

24  And this shall be: If you listen to me, says the Lord, so that you do not carry in burdens through the gates of this city on the day of the Sabbath, and if you sanctify the day of the Sabbath, so that you do not do work in it,

17:25  then shall there enter in by the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they, and their princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and this city shall be inhabited for ever.

17:26  And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places round about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the Lowland, and from the mountains, and from the South, bringing burnt-offerings, and sacrifices, and meal-offerings, and frankincense, and bringing sacrifices of thanksgiving, unto the house of YHWH.

26  And men shall come out of the cities of Juda, and from round about Jerusalem, and out of the land of Benjamin, and out of the plain country, and from the hill country, and from the south country, bringing whole-burnt-offerings, and sacrifices, and incense, and manna, and frankincense, bringing praise to the house of the Lord.

26  And the people shall come from the cities of Judah and from the places round about Jerusalem and from the land of Benjamin and from the plain and from the mountains and from the south, bringing burnt offerings and sacrifices and incense, and bringing thank offerings to the house of the LORD.

17:27  But if ye will not hearken unto Me to hallow the sabbath day, and not to bear a burden and enter in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.

18:1  The word which came to Jeremiah from YHWH, saying

1  The word that came from the Lord to

18:2  'Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear My words.'

2  Jeremias, saying, Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there thou shalt hear my words.

2  “Rise up and descend into the house of the potter, and there you will hear my words.”

18:3  Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he was at his work on the wheels.

3  So I went down to the potter’s house, and behold, he was making a vessel on the stones.

3  And I descended into the house of the potter, and behold, he was making a work on the wheel.

18:4  And whensoever the vessel that he made of the clay was marred in the hand of the potter, he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

4  And the vessel which he was making with his hands fell: so he made it again another vessel, as it seemed good to him to make it.

4  And the vessel, which he was making with his hands out of clay, broke. And turning away, he made another vessel, for it had been pleasing in his eyes to make it.

18:5  Then the word of YHWH came to me, saying

5  And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

18:6  'O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith YHWH. Behold, as the clay in the potter's hand, so are ye in My hand, O house of Israel.

6  Shall I not be able, O house of Israel, to do to you as this potter? behold, as the clay of the potter are ye in my hands.

6  “Am I not able to do with you, O house of Israel, just as this potter has done, says the Lord? Behold, like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.

18:7  At one instant I may speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it;

7  Suddenly, I will speak against a nation and against a kingdom, so that I may uproot, and destroy, and scatter it.

18:8  but if that nation turn from their evil, because of which I have spoken against it, I repent of the evil that I thought to do unto it.

8  and that nation turn from all their sins, then will I repent of the evils which I purposed to do to them.

8  If that nation, against which I have spoken, will repent from their evil, I too will repent from the evil that I have decided I would do to them.

18:9  And at one instant I may speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;

9  And if I shall pronounce a decree upon a nation and kingdom, to rebuild and to plant it;

9  And soon, I will speak about a nation and about a kingdom, so that I may build and plant it.

18:10  but if it do evil in My sight, that it hearken not to My voice, then I repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit it.

10  and they do evil before me, so as not to hearken to my voice, then will I repent of the good which I spoke of, to do it to them.

10  If it does evil in my sight, so as not to listen to my voice, I will repent of the good that I have said I would do to it.

18:11  Now therefore do thou speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying: Thus saith YHWH: Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you; return ye now every one from his evil way, and amend your ways and your doings.

11  And now say to the men of Juda, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Behold, I prepare evils against you, and devise a device against you: let every one turn now from his evil way, and amend your practices.

11  Now, therefore, speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying: Thus says the Lord: Behold, I am forming an evil against you, and I am considering a plan against you. Let each one of you return from his evil way, and direct your ways and your intentions well.”

18:12  But they say: There is no hope; but we will walk after our own devices, and we will do every one after the stubbornness of his evil heart.'

12  And they said, We will quit ourselves like men, for we will pursue our perverse ways, and we will perform each the lusts of his evil heart.

12  And they said: “We have lost hope. And so we will follow our own thoughts, and each of us will act according to the depravity of his own evil heart.”

18:13  Therefore thus saith YHWH: Ask ye now among the nations, who hath heard such things; the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing.

13  For this reason, thus says the Lord: “Inquire among the Gentiles. Who has heard of such horrible things as the virgin of Israel has done to excess?

18:14  Doth the snow of Lebanon fail from the rock of the field? or are the strange cold flowing waters plucked up?

18:15  For My people hath forgotten Me, they offer unto vanity; and they have been made to stumble in their ways, in the ancient paths, to walk in bypaths, in a way not cast up;

15  Yet my people have forgotten me, offering useless libations, and stumbling in their ways, in the paths of the world, so that they walk by these on an unmarked route.

15  Yet my people have forsaken me and have burned incense to vanity and have stumbled in their ways, and have departed from the ancient paths to walk in a way which was not trodden.

18:16  To make their land an astonishment, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished, and shake his head.

16  And so their land has been given over to desolation and to perpetual hissing. Each one who passes by will be astonished and will shake his head.

18:17  I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will look upon their back, and not their face, in the day of their calamity.

17  Like a burning wind, I will disperse them in the sight the enemy. I will show them the back, and not the face, in the day of their perdition.”

18:18  Then said they: 'Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for instruction shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.'

18  Then they said, Come, and let us devise a device against Jeremias; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and we will hear all his words.

18  And they said: “Come, and let us devise a plan against Jeremiah. For the law will not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor a sermon from the prophet. Come, and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us pay no attention to any of his words.”

18:19  Give heed to me, O YHWH, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.

19  Hear me, O Lord, and hear the voice of my pleading.

19  Attend to me, O Lord, and hear the voice of my adversaries.

18:20  Shall evil be recompensed for good? For they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before Thee to speak good for them, to turn away Thy wrath from them.

20  Forasmuch as evil is rewarded for good; for they have spoken words against my soul, and they have hidden the punishment they meant for me; remember that I stood before thy face, to speak good for them, to turn away thy wrath from them.

20  Should evil be rendered for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul! Remember that I have stood in your sight, so as to speak on their behalf for good, and to avert your indignation from them.

18:21  Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and hurl them to the power of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and widows; and let their men be slain of death, and their young men smitten of the sword in battle.

21  Therefore do thou deliver their sons to famine, and gather them to the power of the sword: let their women be childless and widows; and let their men be cut off by death, and their young men fall by the sword in war.

21  Because of this, give their sons over to famine, and bring them to the hand of the sword. Let their wives be widows without children. And let their husbands be slain by death. Let their youths be stabbed with the sword in battle.

18:22  Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them; for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.

22  Let there be a cry in their houses: thou shalt bring upon them robbers suddenly: for they have formed a plan to take me, and have hidden snares for me.

22  Let an outcry be heard from their houses. For you will lead the robber upon them suddenly. For they have dug a pit, so that they may seize me, and they have hidden snares for my feet.

18:23  Yet, YHWH, Thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me; forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from Thy sight; but let them be made to stumble before Thee; Deal Thou with them in the time of Thine anger.

23  And thou, Lord, knowest all their deadly counsel against me: account not their iniquities guiltless, and blot not out their sins from before thee: let their weakness come before thee; deal with them in the time of thy wrath.

23  But you, O Lord, know all their plans against me unto death. May you not forgive their iniquity, and do not allow their sin be taken away from your face. Let them be thrown down in your sight, in the time of your fury, so that you may destroy them.

19:1  Thus said YHWH: Go, and get a potter's earthen bottle, and take of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;

1  Then said the Lord to me, Go and get an earthen bottle, the work of the potter, and thou shalt bring some of the elders of the people, and of the priests;

19:2  and go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the gate Harsith, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee;

2  and thou shalt go forth to the burial-place of the sons of their children, which is at the entrance of the gate of Charsith; and do thou read there all these words which I shall speak to thee

19:3  and say: Hear ye the word of YHWH, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; thus saith the YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle;

3  and thou shalt say to them, Hear ye the word of the Lord, ye kings of Juda, and men of Juda, and the dwellers in Jerusalem, and they that enter in by these gates; thus saith the Lord God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, so that the ears of every one that hears it shall tingle.

3  And you shall say: Listen to the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will lead an affliction over this place, so much so that it will ring in the ears of all who hear about it.

19:4  because they have forsaken Me, and have estranged this place, and have offered in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah; and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;

4  Because they forsook me, and profaned this place, and burnt incense in it to strange gods, which they and their fathers knew not; and the kings of Juda have filled this place with innocent blood,

4  For they have abandoned me, and they have made this place foreign, and they have offered libations in it to foreign gods, whom neither they, nor their fathers, nor the kings of Judah have known. And they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.

19:5  and have built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons in the fire for burnt-offerings unto Baal; which I commanded not, nor spoke it, neither came it into My mind.

5  and built high places for Baal, to burn their children in the fire, which things I commanded not, neither did I design them in my heart

5  And they have built the exalted places of Baal, in order to burn their children with fire as a holocaust to Baal, something that I did not instruct or speak of, nor did it enter into my heart.

19:6  Therefore, behold, the days come, saith YHWH, that this place shall no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter;

6  Because of this, behold, the days are approaching, says the Lord, when this place will no longer be called Topheth, or the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter.

19:7  and I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of them that seek their life; and their carcasses will I give to be food for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth;

19:8  and I will make this city an astonishment, and a hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues thereof;

8  And I will bring this city to desolation and make it a hissing; every one that passes by it shall scowl, and hiss because of all her plague.

8  And I will set this city amid stupor and hissing. Everyone who passes by it will be stupefied, and they will hiss over all its wounds.

19:9  and I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend, in the siege and in the straitness, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their life, shall straiten them.

9  And they shall eat the flesh of their sons, and the flesh of their daughters; and they shall eat every one the flesh of his neighbour in the blockade, and in the siege wherewith their enemies shall besiege them.

9  And I will feed them with the flesh of their sons and with the flesh of their daughters. And each one of them will eat the flesh of his friend during the blockade and the embargo by which their enemies, and those who seek their lives, will enclose them.

19:10  Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,

10  And you shall crush the bottle in the sight of the men who will go with you.

10  Then you shall break a pot in the sight of the men who go with you,

19:11  and shalt say unto them: Thus saith YHWH of hosts: Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again; and they shall bury in Topheth, for want of room to bury.

11  and thou shalt say, Thus saith the Lord, Thus will I break in pieces this people, and this city, even as an earthen vessel is broken in pieces which cannot be mended again.

11  And you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord of hosts: In the same way, I will crush this people and this city, just as the potter’s vessel was crushed and cannot be made whole again. And they will be buried at Topheth, because there will be no other place for burial.

19:12  Thus will I do unto this place, saith YHWH, and to the inhabitants thereof, even making this city as Topheth;

12  Thus will I do, saith the Lord, to this place, and to the inhabitants of it, that this city may be given up, as one that is falling to ruin.

12  So will I do to this place and to its inhabitants, says the Lord. And I will make this city to be like Topheth.

19:13  and the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, which are defiled, shall be as the place of Topheth, even all the houses upon whose roofs they have offered unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink-offerings unto other gods.

19:14  Then came Jeremiah from Topheth, whither YHWH had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the YHWH'S house, and said to all the people

14  And Jeremias came from the place of the Fall, whither the Lord had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the Lord’s house: and said to all the people, Thus saith the Lord;

14  Then Jeremiah arrived from Topheth, where the Lord had sent him to prophesy, and he stood in the atrium of the house of the Lord, and he said to all the people

19:15  'Thus saith YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it; because they have made their neck stiff, that they might not hear My words.'

15  Behold I bring upon this city, and upon all the cities belonging to it, and upon the villages of it, all the evils which I have spoken against it, because they have hardened their neck, that they might not hearken to my commands.

15  “Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will lead over this community, and over all its cities, all the evils that I have spoken against it. For they have hardened their necks, so that they would not heed my words.”

20:1  Now Pashhur the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of YHWH, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things.

1  Now Paschor the son of Emmer, the priest, who also had been appointed chief of the house of the Lord, heard Jeremias prophesying these words.

1  And Pashhur, the son of Immer, the priest who had been appointed leader in the house of the Lord, heard Jeremiah prophesying these words.

20:2  Then Pashhur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of YHWH.

2  And he smote him, and cast him into the dungeon which was by the gate of the upper house that was set apart, which was by the house of the Lord.

2  And Pashhur struck the prophet Jeremiah, and he sent him to the stocks, which were at the upper gate of Benjamin at the house of the Lord.

20:3  And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashhur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him: 'YHWH hath not called thy name Pashhur, but Magormissabib.

3  And Paschor brought Jeremias out of the dungeon: and Jeremias said to him, The Lord has not called thy name Paschor, but Exile.

3  And when it had become light on the next day, Pashhur led Jeremiah from the stocks. And Jeremiah said to him: “The Lord has not called your name: ‘Pashhur,’ but instead: ‘Fear all around.’ ”

20:4  For thus saith YHWH: Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it; and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.

4  For thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will give you over to fear, you and all your friends, and they will fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes will see it. And I will give all of Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon. And he will lead them away to Babylon, and he will strike them with the sword.

20:5  Moreover I will give all the store of this city, and all the gains thereof, and all the wealth thereof, yea, all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, who shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

5  And I will give all the strength of this city, and all the labours of it, and all the treasures of the king of Juda, into the hands of his enemies, and they shall bring them to Babylon.

5  And I will give away the entire substance of this city, and all its labor, and every precious thing. And I will give all the treasures of the kings of Judah into the hands of their enemies. And they will plunder them, and take them away, and lead them into Babylon.

20:6  And thou, Pashhur, and all that dwell in thy house shall go into captivity; and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and there shalt thou be buried, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied falsely.'

6  But you, Pashhur, and all the inhabitants of your house, will go into captivity. And you will go to Babylon. And there you shall die. And there you shall be buried, you and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied a lie.”

20:7  O YHWH, Thou hast enticed me, and I was enticed, Thou hast overcome me, and hast prevailed; I am become a laughing-stock all the day, every one mocketh me.

7  “You have led me away, O Lord, and I have been led away. You have been stronger than I, and you have prevailed. I have become a derision all day long; everyone mocks me.

20:8  For as often as I speak, I cry out, I cry: 'Violence and spoil'; because the word of YHWH is made a reproach unto me, and a derision, all the day.

8  For I speak now as I have long spoken: crying out against iniquity and proclaiming devastation. And the word of the Lord has been made into a reproach against me and a derision, all day long.

8  For at the time when I spoke and cried out, I spoke against the extortioners and against the robbers; because the word of the LORD has become for me a reproach and derision daily.

20:9  And if I say: 'I will not make mention of Him, nor speak any more in His name', then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I weary myself to hold it in, but cannot.

9  Then I said, I will by no means name the name of the Lord, and I will no more at all speak in his name. But it was a burning fire flaming in my bones, and I am utterly weakened on all sides, and cannot bear up.

9  Then I said: I will not call him to mind, nor will I speak any longer in his name. And my heart became like a raging fire, enclosed within my bones. And I became weary of continuing to bear it.

20:10  For I have heard the whispering of many, terror on every side: 'Denounce, and we will denounce him'; even of all my familiar friends, them that watch for my halting: 'Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.'

10  For I heard the insults of many, and terror all around: ‘Persecute him!’ and, ‘Let us persecute him!’ from all the men who had been at peace with me and who had kept watch by my side. ‘If only there were some way that he might be deceived, and we might prevail against him and obtain vengeance from him!’

10  For I heard the evil intentions of many, who were gathering from every side inquiring of my peace with their mouth, but hating me in their heart, saying, Point him out to us; we will stand against him; perhaps we can win him over and we shall take our revenge on him.

20:11  But YHWH is with me as a mighty warrior; therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be greatly ashamed, because they have not prospered, even with an everlasting confusion which shall never be forgotten.

11  But the Lord is with me, like a strong warrior. For this reason, those who persecute me will fall, and they will be ineffective. They will be greatly confounded. For they have not understood the everlasting disgrace that will never be wiped away.

20:12  But, O YHWH of hosts, that triest the righteous, that seest the reins and the heart, let me see Thy vengeance on them; for unto Thee have I revealed my cause.

12  O Lord, that provest just deeds, understanding the reins and hearts, let me see thy vengeance upon them: for to thee I have revealed my cause.

12  And you, O Lord of hosts, the Tester of the just, who sees the temperament and the heart: I beg you to let me see your vengeance upon them. For I have revealed my case to you.

20:13  Sing unto YHWH, praise ye the YHWH; for He hath delivered the soul of the needy from the hand of evil-doers.

13  Sing ye to the Lord, sing praise to him: for he has rescued the soul of the poor from the hand of evil-doers.

13  Sing to the LORD; praise the LORD; for he has delivered the life of the poor from the hand of evildoers.

20:14  Cursed be the day wherein I was born; the day wherein my mother bore me, let it not be blessed.

14  Cursed is the day on which I was born! The day on which my mother gave birth to me: let it not be blessed!

20:15  Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying: 'A man-child is born unto thee'; making him very glad.

15  Cursed is the man who announced it to my father, saying, ‘A male child has been born to you,’ causing him to rejoice with gladness.

20:16  And let that man be as the cities which YHWH overthrew, and repented not; and let him hear a cry in the morning, and an alarm at noontide;

16  Let that man rejoice as the cities which the Lord overthrew in wrath, and repented not: let him hear crying in the morning, and loud lamentation at noon;

20:17  Because He slew me not from the womb; and so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb always great.

17  So let him be, who did not put me to death from the womb, so that my mother would have been my sepulcher, and her womb would have been my eternal resting place!

17  Because he did not slay me in the womb, so that my mother might have been my grave, and my conception would have remained in the womb for ever.

20:18  Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed in shame?

21:1  The word which came unto Jeremiah from YHWH, when king Zedekiah sent unto him Pashhur the son of Malchiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, saying

1  THE WORD THAT CAME FROM THE LORD TO JEREMIAS, WHEN KING SEDEKIAS SENT TO HIM PASCHOR THE SON OF MELCHIAS, AND SOPHONIAS SON OF BASAEAS, THE PRIEST, SAYING,

21:2  'Inquire, I pray thee, of YHWH for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon maketh war against us; peradventure the YHWH will deal with us according to all His wondrous works, that he may go up from us.'

2  Enquire of the Lord for us; for the king of Babylon has risen up against us; if the Lord will do according to all his wonderful works, and the king shall depart from us.

2  “Question the Lord on our behalf, for Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, is fighting against us. Perhaps it may be that the Lord will act toward us according to all his wonders, and he may withdraw from us.”

21:3  Then said Jeremiah unto them: Thus shall ye say to Zedekiah

3  And Jeremias said to them, Thus shall ye say to Sedekias king of Juda,

21:4  Thus saith YHWH, the God of Israel: Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans, that besiege you without the walls, and I will gather them into the midst of this city.

4  Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war wherewith ye fight against the Chaldeans that have besieged you from outside the wall, and I will gather them into the midst of this city.

21:5  And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath.

5  And I will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, with wrath and great anger.

21:6  And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast; they shall die of a great pestilence.

21:7  And afterward, saith YHWH, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life; and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have compassion.

7  And after this, thus saith the Lord; I will give Sedekias king of Juda, and his servants, and the people that is left in this city from the pestilence, and from the famine, and from the sword, into the hands of their enemies, that seek their lives: and they shall cut them in pieces with the edge of the sword: I will not spare them, and I will not have compassion upon them.

7  And afterward, thus says the Lord: I will give Zedekiah, the king of Judah, and his servants, and his people, and those who have been left behind in this city after pestilence and the sword and famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their lives. And he will strike them with the edge of the sword. And he will not waver, and he will not be lenient, and he will not take pity.

21:8  And unto this people thou shalt say: Thus saith YHWH: Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death.

21:9  He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he that goeth out, and falleth away to the Chaldeans that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey.

9  Whoever lives in this city will die by the sword, and by famine, and by pestilence. But whoever will have departed and fled away to the Chaldeans, who besiege you, will live, and his life will be to him like a spoil.

9  He who abides in this city shall die by the sword and by famine and by pestilence; but he who surrenders to the Chaldeans who are besieging you, he shall live, and he shall save his life.

21:10  For I have set My face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith YHWH; it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.

21:11  And unto the house of the king of Judah: Hear ye the word of YHWH;

11  And concerning the house of the king of Judah, say, Hear the word of the LORD, O house of David; thus says the LORD

21:12  O house of David, thus saith YHWH: Execute justice in the morning, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor, lest My fury go forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

12  O house of David! Thus says the Lord: Judge with judgment from early morning, and rescue anyone who is oppressed by violence from the hand of a false accuser. Otherwise, my indignation may go forth like a fire, and may flare up, and there will be no one who can extinguish it, because of the evil of your intentions.

12  Execute justice in the morning, and deliver him who is oppressed from the hand of the oppressor, lest my fury go out like fire and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

21:13  Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain, saith YHWH; ye that say: 'Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations?'

13  Behold, I am against you, O inhabitants of a valley with firm and level ground, says the Lord. And you say: ‘Who can strike us? And who can enter into our houses?’

21:14  And I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, saith YHWH; and I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all that is round about her.

14  And I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof, and it shall devour all things round about it.

14  But I will visit against you according to the fruit of your intentions, says the Lord. And I will kindle a fire in its forest. And it shall devour everything around it.”

22:1  Thus said YHWH: Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word,

1  Thus saith the Lord; Go thou, and go down to the house of the king of Juda, and thou shalt speak there this word,

1  Thus says the Lord: “Descend to the house of the king of Judah, and there you shall speak this word.

22:2  and say: Hear the word of YHWH, O king of Judah, that sittest upon the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people that enter in by these gates.

2  Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, who sits on the throne of David, you and your servants and your people who enter by these gates;

22:3  Thus saith YHWH: Execute ye justice and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor; and do no wrong, do no violence, to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.

3  thus saith the Lord; Execute ye judgement and justice, and rescue the spoiled out of the hand of him that wrongs him: and oppress not the stranger, and orphan, and widow, and sin not, and shed no innocent blood in this place.

3  Thus says the Lord: Exercise judgment and justice, and free anyone who is oppressed by violence from the hand of a false accuser. And do not be willing to sadden the new arrival, or the orphan, or the widow, nor should you burden them unfairly. And you shall not shed innocent blood in this place.

22:4  For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people.

4  For if you will indeed accomplish this word, then there will enter through the gates of this house kings from the stock of David, sitting on his throne, and riding on chariots and on horses: they, and their servants, and their people.

22:5  But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by Myself, saith YHWH, that this house shall become a desolation.

22:6  For thus saith YHWH concerning the house of the king of Judah: Thou art Gilead unto Me, the head of Lebanon; yet surely I will make thee a wilderness, cities which are not inhabited.

6  For thus says the LORD concerning the house of the king of Judah: You are like Gilead, like the head of Lebanon; but I will surely make you a desert, like an uninhabited city.

22:7  And I will prepare destroyers against thee, every one with his weapons; and they shall cut down thy choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.

7  and I will bring upon thee a destroying man, and his axe: and they shall cut down thy choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.

7  And I will sanctify over you the destroying man and his weapons. And they will cut down your select cedars and throw them violently into the fire.

22:8  And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour: 'Wherefore hath YHWH done thus unto this great city?'

22:9  Then they shall answer: 'Because they forsook the covenant of YHWH their God, and worshipped other gods, and served them.'

9  And they will answer: ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord their God, and they adored strange gods and served them.’

22:10  Weep ye not for the dead, neither bemoan him; but weep sore for him that goeth away, for he shall return no more, nor see his native country.

10  Weep not for the dead, nor lament for him: weep bitterly for him that goes away: for he shall return no more, nor see his native land.

10  You should not choose to weep for the dead, nor should you mourn over them with tears. Lament for him who is departing, for he will return no more, nor will he see his native land again.

22:11  For thus saith YHWH touching Shallum the son of Josiah, king of Judah, who reigned instead of Josiah his father, and who went forth out of this place: He shall not return thither any more;

11  For thus saith the Lord concerning Sellem the son of Josias, who reigns in the place of Josias his father, who has gone forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any more

11  For thus says the Lord to Shallum, the son of Josiah, the king of Judah, who reigned in place of his father, who has departed from this place: He will not return here again.

22:12  but in the place whither they have led him captive, there shall he die, and he shall see this land no more.

12  Instead, he will die in the place to which I have transferred him, and he will not see this land anymore.

22:13  Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by injustice; that useth his neighbour's service without wages, and giveth him not his hire;

13  He that builds his house not with justice, and his upper chambers not with judgement, who works by means of his neighbour for nothing, and will by no means give him his reward.

13  Woe to one who builds his house with injustice and his upper rooms without judgment, who oppresses his friend without cause and does not pay him his wages.

22:14  That saith: 'I will build me a wide house and spacious chambers', and cutteth him out windows, and it is ceiled with cedar, and painted with vermilion.

14  And he says: ‘I will build a broad house for myself, with spacious upper rooms.’ He makes windows for himself, and he builds the roof out of cedar, and he paints it with red ocher.

22:15  Shalt thou reign, because thou strivest to excel in cedar? Did not thy father eat and drink, and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him.

15  Will you reign because you compare yourself to the cedar? Did your father not eat and drink, and act with judgment and justice, so that it would be well with him?

15  Shall you reign and rejoice by living in palaces built with cedar? Indeed, your father did eat and drink, but he also did justice and righteousness, therefore I did good to him.

22:16  He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Is not this to know Me? saith YHWH.

16  They understood not, they judged not the cause of the afflicted, nor the cause of the poor: is not this thy not knowing me? saith the Lord.

16  He did justice to the cause of the poor and needy; and he did well; he who does these things, knows me, says the LORD.

22:17  But thine eyes and thy heart are not but for thy covetousness, and for shedding innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.

17  Behold, thine eyes are not good, nor thine heart, but they go after thy covetousness, and after the innocent blood to shed it, and after acts of injustice and slaughter, to commit them.

17  Yet truly, your eyes and your heart are toward avarice and the shedding of innocent blood, and toward false accusations and the pursuit of evil deeds.

22:18  Therefore thus saith YHWH concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah: They shall not lament for him: 'Ah my brother!' or: 'Ah sister!' They shall not lament for him: 'Ah lord!' or: 'Ah his glory!'

18  Because of this, thus says the Lord toward Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, king of Judah: They will not mourn for him by saying, ‘Alas,’ to a brother, or, ‘Alas,’ to a sister. They will not make a noise for him and say, ‘Alas,’ to a master, or, ‘Alas,’ to a nobleman.

22:19  He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

22:20  Go up to Lebanon, and cry, and lift up thy voice in Bashan; and cry from Abarim, for all thy lovers are destroyed.

20  Ascend to Lebanon and cry out! And utter your voice in Bashan, and cry out to those passing by. For all your lovers have been crushed.

22:21  I spoke unto thee in thy prosperity, but thou saidst: 'I will not hear.' This hath been thy manner from thy youth, that thou hearkenedst not to My voice.

21  I spoke to thee on occasion of thy trespass, but thou saidst, I will not hearken. This has been thy way from thy youth, thou hast not hearkened to my voice.

21  I spoke to you in your abundance, and you said, ‘I will not listen.’ This has been your way from your youth, for you have not listened to my voice.

22:22  The wind shall feed upon all thy shepherds, and thy lovers shall go into captivity; surely then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness.

22  The wind will feed all your shepherds, and your lovers will go into captivity. And then you will be confounded, and you will be ashamed of all your wickedness.

22  All of your shepherds shall be smitten by the east wind, and your lovers shall go into captivity; surely then you shall be ashamed and confounded for all your wickedness.

22:23  O inhabitant of Lebanon, that art nestled in the cedars, how gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail!

23  O thou that dwellest in Libanus, making thy nest in the cedars, thou shalt groan heavily, when pangs as of a travailing woman are come upon thee.

23  You who sit in Lebanon, and who nest in the cedars, in what way did you mourn when suffering came to you, like the suffering of a woman giving birth?

22:24  As I live, saith YHWH, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon My right hand, yet would I pluck thee thence;

24  As I live, says the Lord, if Jeconiah, the son of Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, were a ring on my right hand, I would remove him from there.

22:25  and I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them of whom thou art afraid, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.

25  and I will deliver thee into the hands of them that seek thy life, before whom thou art afraid, into the hands of the Chaldeans.

25  And I will deliver you into the hand of the men who seek your life, and into the hand of those whose presence you fear, even into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.

22:26  And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bore thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.

26  And I will send you, and your mother who conceived you, into a foreign land, in which you were not born, and there you shall die.

22:27  But to the land whereunto they long to return, thither shall they not return.

27  But they shall by no means return to the land which they long for in their souls.

27  And to the land about which they lift up their mind, thinking to return there, they shall not return.

22:28  Is this man Coniah a despised, broken image? Is he a vessel wherein is no pleasure? Wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into the land which they know not?

28  Jechonias is dishonoured as a good-for-nothing vessel; for he is thrown out and cast forth into a land which he knew not.

28  this Jecaniah is a little man and a fool, he is like a useless vessel; this is why he is carried away, he and his children, and cast into a land which he knows not.

22:29  O land, land, land, hear the word of YHWH.

29  Land, land, hear the word of the Lord.

29  O earth, O earth, O earth! Listen to the word of the Lord!

22:30  Thus saith YHWH: Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days; for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.

30  Write ye this man an outcast: for there shall none of his seed at all grow up to sit on the throne of David, or as a prince yet in Juda.

30  Thus says the Lord: Write: this man is barren; he is a man who will not prosper in his days. For there will not be a man from among his offspring who will sit upon the throne of David, or have authority in Judah, anymore.”

23:1  Woe unto the shepherds that destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture! saith YHWH.

1  “Woe to the shepherds who scatter and tear apart the sheep of my pasture, says the Lord.

23:2  Therefore thus saith YHWH, the God of Israel, against the shepherds that feed My people: Ye have scattered My flock, and driven them away, and have not taken care of them; behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the YHWH.

2  Because of this, thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, to the shepherds who pasture my people: You have scattered my flock, and you have driven them away, and you have not visited them. Behold, I will visit upon you because of your evil pursuits, says the Lord.

23:3  And I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all the countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them back to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and multiply.

3  And I will gather in the remnant of my people in every land, whither I have driven them out, and will set them in their pasture; and they shall increase and be multiplied.

3  And I will gather together the remnant of my flock from the entire earth, from the places to which I had cast them out. And I will return them to their own fields. And they will increase and be multiplied.

23:4  And I will set up shepherds over them, who shall feed them; and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall any be lacking, saith YHWH.

4  And I will raise up shepherds over them, and they will pasture them. They will no longer dread, and they will no longer fear. And no one among their number will be seeking more, says the Lord.

23:5  Behold, the days come, saith YHWH, that I will raise unto David a righteous shoot, and he shall reign as king and prosper, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.

5  Behold, the days are approaching, says the Lord, when I will raise up to David a righteous branch. And a king will reign, and he will be wise. And he will exercise judgment and justice upon the earth.

23:6  In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely; and this is his name whereby he shall be called, YHWH is our righteousness.

6  In his days both Juda shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell securely: and this is his name, which the Lord shall call him, Josedec among the prophets.

6  In those days, Judah will be saved, and Israel will live in confidence. And this is the name that they will call him: ‘The Lord, our Just One.’

23:7  Therefore, behold, the days come, saith YHWH, that they shall no more say: 'As the YHWH liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt';

7  Because of this, behold, the days are approaching, says the Lord, when they will no longer say, ‘As the Lord lives, who led the sons of Israel away from the land of Egypt,’

7  Therefore, the days are coming, says the LORD, when it shall never be said again, The LORD lives, who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

23:8  but: 'As YHWH liveth, that brought up and that led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all the countries whither I had driven them'; and they shall dwell in their own land.

8  but The Lord lives, who has gathered the whole seed of Israel from the north land, and from all the countries whither he had driven them out, and has restored them into their own land.

8  but instead, ‘As the Lord lives, who led away and brought back the offspring of the house of Israel from the land of the north and from the entire earth,’ from the places to which I had cast them out. And they will live in their own land.”

23:9  Concerning the prophets. My heart within me is broken, all my bones shake; I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome; because of YHWH, and because of His holy words.

9  My heart is broken within me; all my bones are shaken: I am become as a broken-down man, and as a man overcome with wine, because of the Lord, and because of the excellence of his glory.

9  To the prophets: “My heart is crushed within me. All my bones are trembling. I have become like an inebriated man, and like a man maddened by wine, before the face of the Lord, and before the face of his holy words.

23:10  For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth, the pastures of the wilderness are dried up; and their course is evil, and their force is not right.

10  For because of these things the land mourns; the pastures of the wilderness are dried up; and their course is become evil, and so also their strength.

10  For the earth is full of adulterers! And the earth has mourned before the face of evil talk. The plains of the desert have dried up, and their course has become hazardous, and their firmness has become uneven.”

23:11  For both prophet and priest are ungodly; yea, in My house have I found their wickedness, saith YHWH.

11  For priest and prophet are defiled; and I have seen their iniquities in my house.

11  “For both the prophet and the priest have become polluted, and I have found their wickedness within my own house, says the Lord.

23:12  Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery places in the darkness, they shall be thrust, and fall therein; for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their visitation, saith YHWH.

12  Therefore let their way be to them slippery and dark: and they shall be tripped up and fall in it: for I will bring evils upon them, in the year of their visitation.

12  For this reason, their way will be like a slippery path in the dark. For they will be impelled forward, and they will fall in it. For I will bring evils over them, in the year of their visitation, says the Lord.

23:13  And I have seen unseemliness in the prophets of Samaria: they prophesied by Baal, and caused My people Israel to err.

13  And in the prophets of Samaria I have seen lawless deeds; they prophesied by Baal, and led my people Israel astray.

23:14  But in the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies, and they strengthen the hands of evil-doers, that none doth return from his wickedness; they are all of them become unto Me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.

14  And in the prophets of Jerusalem, I have seen the likeness of adulterers and the path of falsehood. And they have strengthened the hands of the wicked, so that each one would not convert from his malice. They have all become to me like Sodom, and its inhabitants have become like Gomorrah.”

14  I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem folly; they commit adultery and walk in lies; they strengthen also the hands of their friends, so that no one turns from his evil way; they are all of them to me like Sodom, and its inhabitants like Gomorrah.

23:15  Therefore thus saith YHWH of hosts concerning the prophets: Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall; for from the prophets of Jerusalem is ungodliness gone forth into all the land.

15  Because of this, thus says the Lord of hosts to the prophets: “Behold, I will feed them absinthe, and I will give them gall to drink. For from the prophets of Jerusalem corruption has gone forth over the entire earth.”

23:16  Thus saith YHWH of hosts: Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you, they lead you unto vanity; they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the YHWH.

16  Thus saith the Lord Almighty, Hearken not to the words of the prophets: for they frame a vain vision for themselves; they speak from their own heart, and not from the mouth of the Lord.

16  Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not choose to listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you and deceive you. They speak a vision from their own heart, and not from the mouth of the Lord.

23:17  They say continually unto them that despise Me: 'YHWH hath said: Ye shall have peace'; and unto every one that walketh in the stubbornness of his own heart they say: 'No evil shall come upon you';

17  They say to them that reject the word of the Lord, There shall be peace to you; and to all that walk after their own lusts, and to everyone that walks in the error of his heart, they have said, No evil shall come upon thee.

23:18  For who hath stood in the council of YHWH, that he should perceive and hear His word? Who hath attended to His word, and heard it?

18  For who has stood in the counsel of the Lord, and seen his word? who has hearkened, and heard?

18  For who has been present in the counsel of the Lord, and who has seen and heard his word? Who has considered his word and heard it?

23:19  Behold, a storm of YHWH is gone forth in fury, yea, a whirling storm; it shall whirl upon the head of the wicked.

19  Behold, there is an earthquake from the Lord, and anger proceeds to a convulsion, it shall come violently upon the ungodly.

19  Behold, the whirlwind of the Lord’s indignation will go forth, and a tempest will break out; it will overwhelm the head of the impious.

23:20  The anger of YHWH shall not return, until He have executed, and till He have performed the purposes of His heart; in the end of days ye shall consider it perfectly.

20  And the Lord’s wrath shall return no more, until he have accomplished it, and until he have established it, according to the purpose of his heart: at the end of the days they shall understand it.

20  The fury of the Lord will not return until it succeeds, and until it completes the plan of his heart. In the last days, you will understand this counsel.

23:21  I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran; I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.

21  I sent not the prophets, yet they ran: neither spoke I to them, yet they prophesied.

21  “I did not send these prophets, yet they hurry forward. I was not speaking to them, yet they were prophesying.

23:22  But if they have stood in My council, then let them cause My people to hear My words, and turn them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.

22  If they had stood in my counsel, and if I had made my words known to my people, certainly I would have turned them away from their evil ways and from their most wicked plans.

23:23  Am I a God near at hand, saith YHWH, and not a God afar off?

23  I am a God nigh at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God afar off.

23  Do you not realize that I am a God close by, says the Lord, and not a God far away?

23:24  Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith YHWH. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the YHWH.

24  If a man is hidden in concealed places, do I not see him, says the Lord? Do I not fill up heaven and earth, says the Lord?

24  If any man should hide himself in secret places, I will see him, says the LORD; behold, heaven and earth are filled with me, says the LORD of hosts.

23:25  I have heard what the prophets have said, that prophesy lies in My name, saying: 'I have dreamed, I have dreamed.'

23:26  How long shall this be? Is it in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies, and the prophets of the deceit of their own heart?

23:27  That think to cause My people to forget My name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers forgot My name for Baal.

27  who devise that men may forget my law by their dreams, which they have told every one to his neighbour, as their fathers forgot my name in the worship of Baal.

23:28  The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath My word; let him speak My word faithfully. What hath the straw to do with the wheat? saith YHWH.

28  The prophet who has a dream, let him tell his dream; and he in whom is my word spoken to him, let him tell my word truly: what is the chaff to the corn? so are my words, saith the Lord.

28  The prophet who sees a dream, let him tell a dream; but he who has my words, let him speak my words faithfully. Why do you mix chaff with the wheat? says the LORD.

23:29  Is not My word like as fire? saith YHWH; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

29  Behold, are not my words as fire? saith the Lord; and as an axe cutting the rock?

23:30  Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith YHWH, that steal My words every one from his neighbour.

30  Behold, I am therefore against the prophets, saith the Lord God, that steal my words every one from his neighbour.

23:31  Behold, I am against the prophets, saith YHWH, that use their tongues and say: 'He saith.'

23:32  Behold, I am against them that prophesy lying dreams, saith YHWH, and do tell them, and cause My people to err by their lies, and by their wantonness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them; neither can they profit this people at all, saith the YHWH.

32  Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets that prophesy false dreams, and have not told them truly, and have caused my people to err by their lies, and by their errors; yet I sent them not, and commanded them not; therefore, they shall not profit this people at all.

32  Behold, I am against the prophets, who dream what is false, says the Lord; who explain and so seduce my people with their falsehoods and with their miracles, though I did not send them, nor did I command them. They have offer nothing beneficial to this people, says the Lord.

23:33  And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee, saying: 'What is the burden of YHWH?' then shalt thou say unto them: 'What burden! I will cast you off, saith the YHWH.'

33  Therefore, if this people, or a prophet, or a priest questions you, saying, ‘What is the burden of the Lord?’ you shall say to them, ‘You are the burden. And certainly I will cast you away, says the Lord.’

33  land when this people, or a prophet or a priest, shall ask you, and say to you, What is the word of the LORD? you shall say to them, This is the word of the LORD: I will utterly uproot you, says the LORD.

23:34  And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say: 'The burden of YHWH', I will even punish that man and his house.

34  As for the prophet, and the priests, and the people, who shall say, The burden of the Lord, I will even take vengeance on that man, and on his house.

23:35  Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbour, and every one to his brother: 'What hath YHWH answered?' and: 'What hath the YHWH spoken?'

35  And then you will speak in this way, each one to his neighbor and to his brother: ‘What has the Lord answered? And what has the Lord said?’

23:36  And the burden of YHWH shall ye mention no more; for every man's own word shall be his burden; and would ye pervert the words of the living God, of the YHWH of hosts our God?

36  And do ye name no more the burden of the Lord; for his own word shall be a man’s burden.

23:37  Thus shalt thou say to the prophet: 'What hath YHWH answered thee?' and: 'What hath the YHWH spoken?'

37  But wherefore, say ye, has the Lord our God spoken?

37  And then you will speak in this way to the prophet: ‘What has the Lord answered you? And what has the Lord spoken?’

23:38  But if ye say: 'The burden of YHWH'; therefore thus saith the YHWH: Because ye say this word: 'The burden of the LORD', and I have sent unto you, saying: 'Ye shall not say: The burden of the LORD';

38  Therefore thus saith the Lord our God; Because ye have spoken this word, The burden of the Lord, and I sent to you, saying, ye shall not say, The burden of the Lord;

38  But if you say, ‘The burden of the Lord!’ then because of this, thus says the Lord: Since you have spoken this word, ‘The burden of the Lord!’ though I sent to you telling you not to say: ‘The burden of the Lord,’

23:39  therefore, behold, I will utterly tear you out, and I will cast you off, and the city that I gave unto you and to your fathers, away from My presence;

39  therefore, behold, I will seize, and dash down you and the city which I gave to you and your fathers.

39  because of this, behold, I will take you away, like a burden, and I will forsake you, as well as the city that I gave to you and to your fathers, before my face.

23:40  and I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame, which shall not be forgotten.

40  And I will give you over to an everlasting reproach and an eternal disgrace, which shall never be wiped away into oblivion.”

24:1  YHWH showed me, and behold two baskets of figs set before the temple of YHWH; after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with the craftsmen and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.

24:2  One basket had very good figs, like the figs that are first-ripe; and the other basket had very bad figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad.

2  The one basket was full of very good figs, as the early figs; and the other basket was full of very bad figs, which could not be eaten, for their badness.

2  One basket had exceedingly good figs, like the figs usually found early in the season, and the other basket had exceedingly bad figs, which could not be eaten because they were so bad.

24:3  Then said YHWH unto me: 'What seest thou, Jeremiah?' And I said: 'Figs; the good figs, very good; and the bad, very bad, that cannot be eaten, they are so bad.'

3  And the Lord said to me, What seest thou, Jeremias? and I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the bad, very bad, which cannot be eaten, for their badness.

3  Then the LORD said to me, What do you see, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the bad figs, very bad, so that they cannot be eaten because they are so bad.

24:4  And the word of YHWH came unto me, saying

4  Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

24:5  'Thus saith YHWH, the God of Israel: Like these good figs, so will I regard the captives of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans, for good.

5  Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; As these good figs, so will I acknowledge the Jews that have been carried away captive, whom I have sent forth out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for good.

24:6  And I will set Mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them back to this land; and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.

6  And I will set my eyes upon them, so as to be pleased. And I will lead them back into this land. And I will build them up, and I will not tear them down. And I will plant them, and I will not uproot them.

6  For I will set my eyes upon them for good and not for evil, says the LORD, and I will bring them again to this land; and I will build them and not overthrow them; and I will plant them and not pluck them up.

24:7  And I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am YHWH; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God; for they shall return unto Me with their whole heart.

24:8  And as the bad figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so bad; surely thus saith YHWH: So will I make Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and them that dwell in the land of Egypt;

8  And just like the very bad figs, which cannot be eaten because they are so bad, thus says the Lord: so will I regard Zedekiah, the king of Judah, and his leaders, and the rest of Jerusalem, those who have remained in this city, and those who are living in the land of Egypt.

8  And like the bad figs which cannot be eaten because they are so bad; thus says the LORD, So will I deliver Zedekiah the king of Judah and his princes and the remnant of the people who are left in this city together with those who dwell in the land of Egypt;

24:9  I will even make them a horror among all the kingdoms of the earth for evil; a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places whither I shall drive them.

9  And I will cause them to be dispersed into all the kingdoms of the earth, and they shall be for a reproach, and a proverb, and an object of hatred, and a curse, in every place whither I have driven them out.

24:10  And I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, among them, till they be consumed from off the land that I gave unto them and to their fathers.'

25:1  The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, that was the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon;

25:2  which Jeremiah the prophet spoke unto all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying

2  which he spoke to all the people of Juda, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,

25:3  From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even unto this day, these three and twenty years, the word of YHWH hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, speaking betimes and often; but ye have not hearkened.

3  In the thirteenth year of Josias, son of Amos, king of Juda, even until this day for three and twenty years, I have both spoken to you, rising early and speaking,

3  “From the thirteenth year of Josiah, the son of Amon, the king of Judah, even until this day, which is the twenty-third year, the word of the Lord has been given to me, and I have spoken to you, rising while it was still night, and speaking, and yet you have not listened.

25:4  And YHWH hath sent unto you all His servants the prophets, sending them betimes and often--but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear--

4  and I sent to you my servants the prophets, sending them early; (but ye hearkened not, and listened not with your ears;) saying,

4  And the Lord has sent to you all his servants, the prophets, rising at first light, and sending, and yet you have not listened, and you have not inclined your ears, so that you would hear,

25:5  saying: 'Return ye now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that YHWH hath given unto you and to your fathers, for ever and ever;

5  Turn ye every one from his evil way, and from your evil practices, and ye shall dwell in the land which I gave to you and your fathers, of old and for ever.

25:6  and go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke Me not with the work of your hands, and I will do you no hurt.'

6  And do not choose to go after strange gods, so that you would serve them and adore them. And do not provoke me to wrath by the works of your hands. And then I will not afflict you.

6  And do not go after other gods to serve them and to worship them, and do not provoke me to anger with the works of your hands; that I may not hurt you.

25:7  Yet ye have not hearkened unto Me, saith YHWH; that ye might provoke Me with the work of your hands to your own hurt.

7  But ye hearkened not to me.

7  And yet you have not listened to me, says the Lord, and so you have provoked me to anger with the works of your hands, to your own harm.”

25:8  Therefore thus saith YHWH of hosts: Because ye have not heard My words,

8  Because of this, thus says the Lord of hosts: “Since you have not listened to my words,

25:9  behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith YHWH, and I will send unto Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about; and I will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

9  behold I will send and take a family from the north, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants of it, and against all the nations round about it, and I will make them utterly waste, and make them a desolation, and a hissing, and an everlasting reproach.

25:10  Moreover I will cause to cease from among them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the lamp.

10  And I will destroy from among them the voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the scent of ointment, and the light of a candle.

25:11  And this whole land shall be a desolation, and a waste; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

11  And all the land shall be a desolation; and they shall serve among the Gentiles seventy years.

25:12  And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith YHWH, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans; and I will make it perpetual desolations.

12  And when the seventy years are fulfilled, I will take vengeance on that nation, and will make them a perpetual desolation.

12  And when the seventy years have been completed, I will visit their iniquity upon the king of Babylon, and upon that nation, and upon the land of the Chaldeans, says the Lord. And I will set it in continual desolations.

25:13  And I will bring upon that land all My words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations.

25:14  For many nations and great kings shall make bondmen of them also; and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the work of their own hands.

14  For they have served them, though these were populous nations and great kings. And I will repay them according to their works and according to the deeds of their hands.”

25:15  For thus saith YHWH, the God of Israel, unto me: Take this cup of the wine of fury at My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.

Jer32:1  Thus said the Lord God of Israel; Take the cup of this unmixed wine from mine hand, and thou shalt cause all the nations to drink, to whom I send thee.

15  For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Take the chalice of the wine of this fury from my hand. And you shall cause all the nations, to which I will send you, to drink from it.

25:16  And they shall drink, and reel to and fro, and be like madmen, because of the sword that I will send among them.--

16  And they will drink, and be stirred up, and become maddened, before the face of the sword that I will send among them.”

25:17  Then took I the cup of YHWH'S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the YHWH had sent me

Jer32:3  So I took the cup out of the Lord’s hand, and caused the nations to whom the Lord sent me to drink

17  And I received the chalice from the hand of the Lord, and I caused all the nations, to which the Lord has sent me, to drink from it

25:18  Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them an appalment, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse; as it is this day;

18  Even to Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, its kings and its princes, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, as it is this day;

25:19  Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people;

25:20  and all the mingled people; and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod;

Jer32:6  and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the Philistines, and Ascalon, and Gaza, and Accaron, and the remnant of Azotus,

20  and the entire populace in general: all the kings of the land of the south, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,

25:21  Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon;

Jer32:7  and Idumea, and the land of Moab, and the children of Ammon,

25:22  and all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isle which is beyond the sea;

Jer32:8  and the kings of Tyre, and the kings of Sidon, and the kings in the country beyond the sea,

25:23  Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that have the corners of their hair polled;

Jer32:9  and Daedan, and Thaeman, and Ros, and every one that is shaved round about the face,

23  Deran and Tema and Buz and all of those who cut their beards

25:24  and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the wilderness;

Jer32:10  and all the mingled people lodging in the wilderness,

25:25  and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes;

25:26  and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another; and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth.--And the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.

Jer32:12  and all the kings from the north, the far and the near, each one with his brother, and all the kingdom s which are on the face of the earth.

26  and likewise, all the kings of the north from near to far, each one facing his brother, and all the kingdoms upon the face of the earth, and the king of Sesac: all these shall drink after them.

25:27  And thou shalt say unto them: Thus saith YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink ye, and be drunken, and spew, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.

27  And you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink, and be inebriated, and vomit, and fall down. And you shall not rise up before the face the sword that I will send among you.

27  Therefore you shall say to them, Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink and be drunken and stagger and fall and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.

25:28  And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thy hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them: Thus saith YHWH of hosts: Ye shall surely drink.

Jer32:14  And it shall come to pass, when they refuse to take the cup out of thine hand, to drink it, that thou shalt say, Thus said the Lord; Ye shall surely drink.

28  And if they refuse to receive the cup from your hand and to drink, you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord of hosts: Certainly, you shall drink!

25:29  For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city whereupon My name is called, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished; for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith YHWH of hosts.

Jer32:15  For I am beginning to afflict the city whereon my name is called, and ye shall by no means be held guiltless: for I am calling a sword upon all that dwell upon the earth.

25:30  Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them: YHWH doth roar from on high, and utter His voice from His holy habitation; He doth mightily roar because of His fold; He giveth a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.

Jer32:16  And thou shalt prophesy against them these words, and shalt say, The Lord shall speak from on high, from his sanctuary he will utter his voice; he will pronounce a declaration on his place; and these shall answer like men gathering grapes: and destruction is coming on them that dwell on the earth,

30  And you shall prophesy to them all these words, and you shall say to them: The Lord will roar from on high, and he will utter his voice from his holy habitation. When roaring, he will roar over the place of his beauty. He will call out, like those who chant in rhythm as they trample the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.

25:31  A noise is come even to the end of the earth; for YHWH hath a controversy with the nations, He doth plead with all flesh; as for the wicked, He hath given them to the sword, saith the YHWH.

31  The sound of it will penetrate even to the ends of the earth. For the Lord is entering into judgment with the nations. He himself is entering into judgment with all flesh. I have delivered the impious to the sword, says the Lord.”

25:32  Thus saith YHWH of hosts: Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great storm shall be raised up from the uttermost parts of the earth.

Jer32:18  Thus said the Lord; Behold, evils are proceeding from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind goes forth from the end of the earth.

32  Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Behold, an affliction will go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind will go forth from the ends of the earth.

25:33  And the slain of YHWH shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the face of the ground.

33  And the slain of the Lord will be, on that day, from one end of the earth, even to the other end. They will not be mourned, and they will not be gathered, and they will not be buried. They will lie upon the face of the earth like dung.

33  And those who are slain by the LORD shall be on that day from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth; they shall not be lamented, neither mourned nor wept over nor gathered nor buried; but they shall be like refuse upon the face of the ground.

25:34  Wail, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the dust, ye leaders of the flock; for the days of your slaughter are fully come, and I will break you in pieces, and ye shall fall like a precious vessel.

Jer32:20  Howl, ye shepherds, and cry; and lament, ye rams of the flock: for your days have been completed for slaughter, and ye shall fall as the choice rams.

34  Howl, you shepherds, and cry; wallow in the ashes, you who have great flocks; for the days of your slaughter are at hand, anal you shall be broken, and fall like choice vessels.

25:35  And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the leaders of the flock to escape.

Jer32:21  And flight shall perish from the shepherds, and safety from the rams of the flock.

35  And escape will flee from the shepherds, and safety will flee from the nobility of the flock.”

25:36  Hark! the cry of the shepherds, and the wailing of the leaders of the flock! For YHWH despoileth their pasture.

Jer32:22  A voice of the crying of the shepherds, and a moaning of the sheep and the rams: for the Lord has destroyed their pastures.

36  There is a voice of outcry from the shepherds, and a wailing among the nobles among the flock! For the Lord has laid waste to their pastures.

25:37  And the peaceable folds are brought to silence because of the fierce anger of YHWH.

Jer32:23  And the peaceable abodes that remain shall be destroyed before the fierceness of my anger.

25:38  He hath forsaken His covert, as the lion; for their land is become a waste because of the fierceness of the oppressing sword, and because of His fierce anger.

Jer32:24  He has forsaken his lair, as a lion: for their land is become desolate before the great sword.

38  He has abandoned those he sheltered like a lion. For the earth has become a desolation before the face of the anger of the dove, and before the face of the fury of the Lord.

26:1  In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, came this word from YHWH, saying

26:2  'Thus saith YHWH: Stand in the court of the YHWH'S house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD'S house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word.

Jer33:2  Thus said the Lord; Stand in the court of the Lord’s house, and thou shalt declare to all the Jews, and to all that come to worship in the house of the Lord, all the words which I commanded thee to speak to them; abate not one word.

26:3  It may be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way; that I may repent Me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.

Jer33:3  Peradventure they will hear, and turn every one from his evil way: then I will cease from the evils which I purpose to do to them, because of their evil practices.

26:4  And thou shalt say unto them: Thus saith YHWH: If ye will not hearken to Me, to walk in My law, which I have set before you,

4  And you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord: If you will not listen to me, so that you walk in my law, which I have given to you,

26:5  to hearken to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I send unto you, even sending them betimes and often, but ye have not hearkened;

5  so that you listen to the words of my servants, the prophets, whom I have sent to you, who arise while it is still night, and though they give guidance, you do not listen,

5  And to hearken to the words of my servants the prophets whom I have sent to you, warning you in advance, but you have not hearkened;

26:6  then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.'

26:7  So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of YHWH.

Jer33:7  And the priests, and the false prophets, and all the people heard Jeremias speaking these words in the house of the Lord.

26:8  Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that YHWH had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold on him, saying: 'Thou shalt surely die.

Jer33:8  And it came to pass, when Jeremias had ceased speaking all that the Lord had ordered him to speak to all the people, that the priests and the false prophets and all the people took him, saying,

8  And when Jeremiah had completed speaking all that the Lord had instructed him to speak to all the people, then the priests, and the prophets, and all the people apprehended him, saying: “You shall be put to death.”

26:9  Why hast thou prophesied in the name of YHWH, saying: This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without an inhabitant?' And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the YHWH.

Jer33:9  Thou shalt surely die, because thou hast prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying, This house shall be as Selo, and this city shall be made quite destitute of inhabitants. And all the people assembled against Jeremias in the house of the Lord.

26:10  When the princes of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king's house unto the house of YHWH; and they sat in the entry of the new gate of the YHWH'S house.

Jer33:10  And the princes of Juda heard this word, and they went up out of the house of the king to the house of the Lord, and sat in the entrance of the new gate.

10  And the leaders of Judah heard these words. And they ascended from the house of the king to the house of the Lord, and they sat at the entrance by the new gate of the house of the Lord.

26:11  Then spoke the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying: 'This man is worthy of death; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.'

Jer33:11  Then the priests and the false prophets said to the princes and to all the people, The judgement of death is due to this man; because he has prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.

11  And the priests and the prophets spoke to the leaders and to all the people, saying: “A judgment of death is for this man. For he has prophesied against this city, just as you have heard with your own ears.”

26:12  Then spoke Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying: 'YHWH sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.

12  And Jeremiah spoke to all the leaders and to the entire people, saying: “The Lord has sent me to prophesy, about this house and about this city, all the words that you have heard.

26:13  Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and hearken to the voice of YHWH your God; and the YHWH will repent Him of the evil that He hath pronounced against you.

Jer33:13  And now amend your ways and your works, and hearken to the voice of the Lord; and the Lord shall cease from the evils which he has pronounced against you.

13  Now, therefore, make your ways and your intentions good, and heed the voice of the Lord your God. And then the Lord will repent of the evil that he has spoken against you.

26:14  But as for me, behold, I am in your hand; do with me as is good and right in your eyes.

Jer33:14  And behold, I am in your hands; do to me as is expedient, and as it is best for you.

14  As for me, behold, I am in your hands; do with me as it seems right and proper to you.

26:15  Only know ye for certain that, if ye put me to death, ye will bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof; for of a truth YHWH hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.'

15  Yet truly, know and understand this: if you kill me, you will be bringing innocent blood against yourselves, and against this city and its inhabitants. For in truth, the Lord sent me to you, so as to speak all these words in your hearing.”

26:16  Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets: 'This man is not worthy of death; for he hath spoken to us in the name of YHWH our God.'

Jer33:16  Then the princes and all the people said to the priests and to the false prophets; Judgment of death is not due to this man; for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.

16  And then the leaders and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets: “There is no judgment of death against this man. For he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”

26:17  Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spoke to all the assembly of the people, saying

Jer33:17  And there rose up men of the elders of the land, and said to all the assembly of the people,

17  Then some of the elders of the land rose up. And they spoke to the entire assembly of the people, saying

26:18  'Micah the Morashtite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah; and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying: Thus saith YHWH of hosts: Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

Jer33:18  Michaeas the Morathite lived in the days of Ezekias king of Juda, and said to all the people of Juda, Thus saith the Lord; Sion shall be ploughed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become a desolation, and the mountain of the house shall be a thicket of trees.

18  “Micah from Moresheth was a prophet in the days of Hezekiah, the king of Judah, and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying: ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: Zion will be ploughed like a field. And Jerusalem will be a pile of stones. And the mountain of the house will be like the forests of high places.’

26:19  Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? did he not fear YHWH, and entreat the favour of the YHWH, and the LORD repented Him of the evil which He had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our own souls.'

Jer33:19  Did Ezekias and all Juda in any way slay him? Was it not that they feared the Lord, and they made supplication before the Lord, and the Lord ceased from the evils which he had pronounced against them? whereas we have wrought great evil against our own souls.

19  Did the king of Judah, Hezekiah, with all of Judah, condemn him to death? Did they not fear the Lord, and petition the face of the Lord? And so the Lord repented of the evil that he had spoken against them. Therefore, we are committing a great evil against our own souls.

26:20  And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of YHWH, Uriah the son of Shemaiah of Kiriath-jearim; and he prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah;

Jer33:20  And there was another man prophesying in the name of the Lord, Urias the son of Samaeas of Cariathiarim; and he prophesied concerning this land according to all the words of Jeremias.

26:21  and when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death; but when Uriah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt;

Jer33:21  And king Joakim and all the princes heard all his words, and sought to slay him; and Urias heard it and went into Egypt.

21  And king Jehoiakim, with all his warriors and leaders, heard these words. And so the king sought to put him to death. And Uriah heard, and was afraid, and fled, and he entered into Egypt.

26:22  and Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him, into Egypt;

Jer33:22  And the king sent men into Egypt;

26:23  and they fetched forth Uriah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the children of the people.

Jer33:23  and they brought him thence, and brought him into the king; and he smote him with the sword, and cast him into the sepulchre of the children of his people.

23  And they led Uriah out of Egypt. And they brought him to king Jehoiakim, and he struck him down with the sword. And he cast his dead body among the graves of the common people.”

26:24  Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

Jer33:24  Nevertheless the hand of Achicam son of Saphan was with Jeremias, to prevent his being delivered into the hands of the people, or being killed.

24  But the hand of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, was with Jeremiah, so that he would not be delivered into the hands of the people, and so that they would not put him to death.

27:1  In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, came this word unto Jeremiah from YHWH, saying

27:2  'Thus saith YHWH to me: Make thee bands and bars, and put them upon thy neck;

4  Thus said the Lord;

undefined  Make to thyself bonds and yokes, and put them about thy neck,

2  “Thus says the Lord to me: Make bands and chains for yourself. And you shall place them on your neck.

27:3  and send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the children of Ammon, and to the king of Tyre, and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the messengers that come to Jerusalem unto Zedekiah king of Judah;

Jer34:5  and thou shalt send them to the king of Idumea, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the children of Ammon, and to the king of Tyre, and to the king of Sidon, by the hands of their messengers that come to meet them at Jerusalem to Sedekias king of Juda.

27:4  and give them a charge unto their masters, saying: Thus saith YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel: Thus shall ye say unto your masters

Jer34:6  And thou shalt commission them to say to their lords, Thus said the Lord God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to your lords;

27:5  I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the face of the earth, by My great power and by My outstretched arm; and I give it unto whom it seemeth right unto Me.

Jer34:7  I have made the earth by my great power, and with my high arm, and I will give it to whomsoever it shall seem good in mine eyes.

5  I made the earth, and the men and beasts which are upon the face of the earth, by my great strength and by my outstretched arm. And I have given it to whomever it was pleasing in my eyes.

27:6  And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant; and the beasts of the field also have I given him to serve him.

Jer34:8  I gave the earth to Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon to serve him, and the wild beasts of the field to labour for him.

6  And now, therefore, I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, my servant. Moreover, I have given to him also the beasts of the field, so that they may serve him.

27:7  And all the nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the time of his own land come; and then many nations and great kings shall make him their bondman.

7  And all nations shall serve him and his son and his son's son, until the very time of his land shall come; many nations and great kings shall serve him.

27:8  And it shall come to pass, that the nation and the kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I visit, saith YHWH, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

Jer34:10  And the nation and kingdom, all that shall not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, with sword and famine will I visit them, saith the Lord, until they are consumed by his hand.

8  But the nation or kingdom that will not serve Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, and whoever will not bend his neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, I will visit upon that nation with the sword, and with famine, and with pestilence, says the Lord, until I consume them by his hand.

27:9  But as for you, hearken ye not to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreams, nor to your soothsayers, nor to your sorcerers, that speak unto you, saying: Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon;

Jer34:11  And hearken ye not to your false prophets, nor to them that divine to you, nor to them that foretell events by dreams to you, nor to your auguries, nor your sorcerers, that say, Ye shall by no means work for the king of Babylon

9  Therefore, you should not choose to listen to your own prophets, and diviners, and dreamers, and soothsayers, and sorcerers, who say to you: ‘You shall not serve the king of Babylon.’

27:10  for they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out and ye should perish.

Jer34:12  for they prophesy lies to you, to remove you far from your land.

27:11  But the nation that shall bring their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, that nation will I let remain in their own land, saith YHWH; and they shall till it, and dwell therein.'

Jer34:13  But the nation which shall put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, I will even leave it upon its land, and it shall serve him, and dwell in it.

11  Furthermore, the nation which will bend its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and which will serve him, I will permit them to remain in their own land, says the Lord. And they will cultivate it, and they will live in it.”

27:12  And I spoke to Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying: 'Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live.

Jer34:14  I spoke also to Sedekias king of Juda according to all these words, saying, Put your neck into the yoke, and serve the king of Babylon.

27:13  Why will ye die, thou and thy people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as YHWH hath spoken concerning the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?

13  Why should you suffer death, you and your people, by the sword, and famine, and pestilence, just as the Lord has spoken against any nation that refuses to serve the king of Babylon?

13  So that you may not die, you and your people, by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence, according to that which the LORD has spoken against the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon.

27:14  And hearken not unto the words of the prophets that speak unto you, saying: Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon, for they prophesy a lie unto you.

Jer34:16  For they prophesy unrighteous words to you,

14  Do not choose to listen to the words of the prophets, saying to you: ‘You will not serve the king of Babylon.’ For they are speaking a lie to you.

27:15  For I have not sent them, saith YHWH, and they prophesy falsely in My name; that I might drive you out, and that ye might perish, ye, and the prophets that prophesy unto you.'

Jer34:17  for I sent them not, saith the Lord; and they prophesy in my name unjustly, that I might destroy you, and ye should perish, and your prophets, who unrighteously prophesy lies to you.

27:16  Also I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying: 'Thus saith YHWH: Hearken not to the words of your prophets that prophesy unto you, saying: Behold, the vessels of the YHWH'S house shall now shortly be brought back from Babylon; for they prophesy a lie unto you.

Jer34:18  I spoke to you, and to all this people, and to the priests, saying, Thus said the Lord; Hearken not to the words of the prophets that prophesy to you, saying, Behold, the vessels of the Lord’s house shall return from Babylon: for they prophesy to you unrighteous words.

27:17  Hearken not unto them; serve the king of Babylon, and live; wherefore should this city become desolate?

Jer34:19  I sent them not.

17  Therefore, do not choose to listen to them, but instead, serve the king of Babylon, so that you may live. Why should this city be given over into desolation?

27:18  But if they be prophets, and if the word of YHWH be with them, let them now make intercession to the YHWH of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon.

Jer34:20  If they are prophets, and if the word of the Lord is in them, let them meet me, for thus has the Lord said.

27:19  For thus saith YHWH of hosts concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the residue of the vessels that remain in this city,

Jer34:21  And as for the remaining vessels,

19  For thus says the Lord of hosts to the pillars, and to the sea of brass, and to the bases, and to the remainder of the vessels that have been left behind in this city,

27:20  which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took not, when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem;

Jer34:22  which the king of Babylon took not, when he carried Jechonias prisoner out of Jerusalem,

27:21  yea, thus saith YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that remain in the house of the YHWH, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem

21  For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to the vessels that were left behind in the house of the Lord and in the house of the king of Judah and Jerusalem

27:22  They shall be carried to Babylon, and there shall they be, until the day that I remember them, saith YHWH, and bring them up, and restore them to this place.'

Jer34:24  they shall go into Babylon, saith the Lord.

22  They shall be carried away to Babylon, and there they shall be, until the day of their visitation, says the Lord. And then I will cause them to be carried back, and to be restored to this place.

28:1  And it came to pass the same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azzur the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke unto me in the house of YHWH, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying

Jer35:1  And it came to pass in the fourth year of Sedekias king of Juda, in the fifth month, that Ananias the false prophet, the son of Azor, from Gabaon, spoke to me in the house of the Lord, in the sight of the priests and all the people, saying,

28:2  'Thus speaketh YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel, saying: I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.

Jer35:2  Thus saith the Lord; I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.

2  “Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.

28:3  Within two full years will I bring back into this place all the vessels of YHWH'S house, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and carried them to Babylon;

Jer35:3  Yet two full years, and I will return into this place the vessels of the house of the Lord,

3  There are still two years of days, and then I will cause to be carried back to this place all the vessels of the house of the Lord that Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, took from this place and carried away to Babylon.

28:4  and I will bring back to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, that went to Babylon, saith YHWH; for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.'

Jer35:4  and Jechonias, and the captivity of Juda: for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.

4  And I will return to this place: Jeconiah, the son of Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, and all those taken captive from Judah, who were brought into Babylon, says the Lord. For I will crush the yoke of the king of Babylon.”

28:5  Then the prophet Jeremiah said unto the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people that stood in the house of YHWH,

Jer35:5  Then Jeremias spoke to Ananias in the sight of all the people, and in the sight of the priests that stood in the house of the Lord,

5  And Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Hananiah the prophet, before the eyes of the priests and before the eyes of all the people who were standing in the house of the Lord.

28:6  even the prophet Jeremiah said: 'Amen! YHWH do so! the YHWH perform thy words which thou hast prophesied, to bring back the vessels of the LORD'S house, and all them that are carried away captive, from Babylon unto this place!

Jer35:6  and Jeremias said, May the Lord indeed do thus; may he confirm thy word which thou dost prophesy, to return the vessels of the house of the Lord, and all the captivity, out of Babylon to this place.

6  And Jeremiah the prophet said: “Amen, may the Lord accomplish this; may the Lord act upon your words, which you have prophesied, so that the vessels may be carried back to the house of the Lord, and so that all those taken captive may return from Babylon to this place.

28:7  Nevertheless hear thou now this word that I speak in thine ears, and in the ears of all the people

7  Yet truly, listen to this word, which I am speaking to your ears and to the ears of all the people.

7  Nevertheless, hear now this word which I speak before you and before all the people;

28:8  The prophets that have been before me and before thee of old prophesied against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of pestilence.

Jer35:8  The prophets that were before me and before you of old, also prophesied over much country, and against great kingdoms, concerning war.

8  The prophets, who were before me and before you, from the beginning, have prophesied over many lands and over great kingdoms, about war, and about affliction, and about famine.

28:9  The prophet that prophesieth of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that YHWH hath truly sent him.'

Jer35:9  As for the prophet that has prophesied for peace, when the word has come to pass, they shall know the prophet whom the Lord has sent them in truth.

9  The prophet who has predicted peace, if his word will occur, then the prophet will be known as one whom the Lord has sent in truth.”

28:10  Then Hananiah the prophet took the bar from off the prophet Jeremiah's neck, and broke it.

Jer35:10  Then Ananias took the yokes from the neck of Jeremias in the sight of all the people, and broke them to pieces.

10  And Hananiah the prophet took the chain from the neck of Jeremiah the prophet, and he broke it.

28:11  And Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying: 'Thus saith YHWH: Even so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from off the neck of all the nations within two full years.' And the prophet Jeremiah went his way.

Jer35:11  And Ananias spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, Thus said the Lord; Thus will I break the yoke of the king of Babylon from the necks of all the nations. And Jeremias went his way.

28:12  Then the word of YHWH came unto Jeremiah, after that Hananiah the prophet had broken the bar from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying

Jer35:12  And the word of the Lord came to Jeremias, after that Ananias had broken the yokes off his neck, saying,

12  And Jeremiah the prophet went his own way. And after Hananiah the prophet had broken the chain from the neck of Jeremiah the prophet, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying

28:13  'Go, and tell Hananiah, saying: Thus saith YHWH: Thou hast broken the bars of wood; but thou shalt make in their stead bars of iron.

Jer35:13  Go and speak to Ananias, saying, Thus saith the Lord; Thou hast broken the yokes of wood; but I will make instead of them yokes of iron.

28:14  For thus saith YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel: I have put a yoke of iron upon the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve him; and I have given him the beasts of the field also.'

Jer35:14  For thus said the Lord, I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all the nations, that they may serve the king of Babylon.

14  For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: I have placed a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations, so that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon. And they shall serve him. Moreover, I have given to him even the beasts of the earth.”

28:15  Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet: 'Hear now, Hananiah; YHWH hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie.

Jer35:15  And Jeremias said to Ananias, The Lord has not sent thee; and thou hast caused this people to trust in unrighteousness.

15  And Jeremiah the prophet said to Hananiah the prophet: “Listen, Hananiah! The Lord has not sent you, and so you have caused this people to trust in a lie.

28:16  'Therefore thus saith YHWH: Behold, I will send thee away from off the face of the earth; this year thou shalt die, because thou hast spoken perversion against the YHWH.'

Jer35:16  Therefore thus said the Lord: Behold, I will cast thee off from the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die.

28:17  So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

Jer35:17  So he died in the seventh month.

17  And Hananiah the prophet died in that year, in the seventh month.

29:1  Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders of the captivity, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people, whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon,

Jer36:1  And these are the words of the book which Jeremias sent from Jerusalem to the elders of the captivity, and to the priests, and to the false prophets, even an epistle to Babylon for the captivity, and to all the people;

29:2  after that Jeconiah the king, and the queen-mother, and the officers, and the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the craftsmen, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;

Jer36:2  (after the departure of Jechonias the king and the queen, and the eunuchs, and every freeman, and bondman, and artificer, out of Jerusalem;)

29:3  by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, saying

Jer36:3  by the hand of Eleasan son of Saphan, and Gamarias son of Chelcias, (whom Sedekias king of Juda sent to the king of Babylon to Babylon) saying,

3  It was sent by the hand of Elasah, the son of Shaphan, and by Gemariah, the son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah, the king of Judah, sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, saying

29:4  Thus saith YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all the captivity, whom I have caused to be carried away captive from Jerusalem unto Babylon

Jer36:4  Thus said the Lord God of Israel concerning the captivity which I caused to be carried away from Jerusalem;

4  “Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all who have been taken away, whom I have caused to be transferred from Jerusalem to Babylon

29:5  Build ye houses, and dwell in them, and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;

5  Build houses and live in them. And plant gardens, and eat from their fruit.

29:6  take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; and multiply ye there, and be not diminished.

Jer36:6  and take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, and be multiplied, and be not diminished.

6  Take wives, and conceive sons and daughters. And give wives to your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, and let them bear sons and daughters. And be multiplied there, and do not choose to be few in number.

29:7  And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray unto YHWH for it; for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

29:8  For thus saith YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel: Let not your prophets that are in the midst of you, and your diviners, beguile you, neither hearken ye to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.

Jer36:8  For thus saith the Lord; Let not the false prophets that are among you persuade you, and let not your diviners persuade you, and hearken not to your dreams which ye dream.

8  For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not allow your prophets and your diviners, who are in your midst, to seduce you. And you should pay no attention to your dreams, which you are dreaming.

29:9  For they prophesy falsely unto you in My name; I have not sent them, saith YHWH.

29:10  For thus saith YHWH: After seventy years are accomplished for Babylon, I will remember you, and perform My good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

Jer36:10  For thus said the Lord; When seventy years shall be on the point of being accomplished at Babylon, I will visit you, and will confirm my words to you, to bring back your people to this place.

29:11  For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith YHWH, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Jer36:11  And I will devise for you a device of peace, and not evil, to bestow upon you these good things.

29:12  And ye shall call upon Me, and go, and pray unto Me, and I will hearken unto you.

Jer36:12  And do ye pray to me, and I will hearken to you: and do ye earnestly seek me, and ye shall find me;

29:13  And ye shall seek Me, and find Me, when ye shall search for Me with all your heart.

Jer36:13  for ye shall seek me with your whole heart.

13  You shall seek me. And you will find me, when you have sought me with your whole heart.

29:14  And I will be found of you, saith YHWH, and I will turn your captivity, and gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the YHWH; and I will bring you back unto the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

Jer36:14  And I will appear to you

14  And I will bring back your exiles, and I will gather you from all the nations and from all the lands where I have driven you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back to the place from which I caused you to be carried away captive.

29:15  For ye have said: 'YHWH hath raised us up prophets in Babylon.'

Jer36:15  whereas ye said, The Lord has appointed for us prophets in Babylon

15  Because you have said, The LORD has raised us up prophets in Babylon;

29:16  For thus saith YHWH concerning the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and concerning all the people that dwell in this city, your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;

16  For thus says the Lord, to the king who sits upon the throne of David, and to all the people who live in this city, to your brothers who have not departed with you in the transmigration

16  Therefore, thus says the LORD concerning the king who sits on the throne of David and concerning all the people who dwell in this city and your brethren who did not go out with you into captivity;

29:17  thus saith YHWH of hosts: Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so bad.

17  Thus says the Lord of hosts: Behold, I will send among them the sword, and famine, and pestilence. And I will make them like the bad figs, which cannot be eaten, because they are very bad.

29:18  And I will pursue after them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will make them a horror unto all the kingdoms of the earth, a curse, and an astonishment, and a hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them;

29:19  because they have not hearkened to My words, saith YHWH, wherewith I sent unto them My servants the prophets, sending them betimes and often; but ye would not hear, saith the YHWH.

19  For they have not listened to my words, says the Lord, which I sent to them through my servants, the prophets, rising while it was still night, and sending. But you have not listened, says the Lord.

19  Because they did not hearken to my words, and I sent to them all my servants the prophets, warning them in advance, but they did not listen to them, says the LORD.

29:20  Hear ye therefore the word of YHWH, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon

20  Therefore, listen to the word of the Lord, all you of the transmigration, whom I have sent away from Jerusalem into Babylon.

20  Hear therefore the word of the LORD, all you exiles who were carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;

29:21  Thus saith YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy a lie unto you in My name: Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;

Jer36:21  Thus saith the Lord concerning Achiab, and concerning Sedekias; Behold, I will deliver them into the hands of the king of Babylon; and he shall smite them in your sight.

21  Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to Ahab, the son of Kolaiah, and to Zedekiah, the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy falsely to you in my name: Behold, I will deliver them into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, and he will strike them down before your eyes.

29:22  and of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah that are in Babylon, saying: 'YHWH make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire';

Jer36:22  And they shall make of them a curse in all the captivity of Juda in Babylon, saying, The Lord do to thee as he did to Sedekias, and as he did to Achiab, whom the king of Babylon fried in the fire;

29:23  because they have wrought vile deeds in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken words in My name falsely, which I commanded them not; but I am He that knoweth, and am witness, saith YHWH.

Jer36:23  because of the iniquity which they wrought in Israel, and because they committed adultery with the wives of their fellow-citizens; and spoke a word in my name, which I did not command them to speak, and I am witness, saith the Lord.

23  For they have acted foolishly in Israel, and they have committed adultery with the wives of their friends, and they have spoken lying words in my name, which I did not command them. I am the Judge and the Witness, says the Lord.

29:24  And concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite thou shalt speak, saying

29:25  Thus speaketh YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel, saying: Because thou hast sent letters in thine own name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying

Jer36:25  I sent thee not in my name: and to Sophonias the priest the son of Maasaeas say thou,

25  Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Similarly, you have sent letters in your name to all the people that are in Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah, the son of Maaseiah, the priest, and to all the priests, saying

29:26  'YHWH hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that there should be officers in the house of YHWH for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in the stocks and in the collar.

Jer36:26  The Lord has made thee priest in the place of Jodae the priest, to be ruler in the house of the Lord over every prophet, and to every madman, and thou shalt put them in prison, and into the dungeon.

26  ‘The Lord has made you priest in place of Jehoiada, the priest, so that you would be the ruler in the house of the Lord over every man who raves and prophesies, to send him to the stocks and to prison.

29:27  Now therefore, why hast thou not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who maketh himself a prophet to you,

Jer36:27  And now wherefore have ye reviled together Jeremias of Anathoth, who prophesied to you?

29:28  forasmuch as he hath sent unto us in Babylon, saying: The captivity is long; build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them?'

Jer36:28  Did he not send for this purpose? for in the course of this month he sent to you to Babylon, saying, It is far off: build ye houses, and inhabit them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

28  For about this, he has sent to us in Babylon, saying: It is a long time. Build houses and live in them. And plant gardens, and eat from their fruits.’ ”

29:29  And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

Jer36:29  And Sophonias read the book in the ears of Jeremias.

29:30  Then came the word of YHWH unto Jeremiah, saying

Jer36:30  Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremias, saying,

29:31  Send to all them of the captivity, saying: Thus saith YHWH concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he hath caused you to trust in a lie;

29:32  therefore thus saith YHWH: Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed; he shall not have a man to dwell among this people, neither shall he behold the good that I will do unto My people, saith the YHWH; because he hath spoken perversion against the LORD.

Jer36:32  therefore thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will visit Samaeas, and his family: and there shall not be a man of them in the midst of you to see the good which I will do to you: they shall not see it.

32  For this reason, thus says the Lord: Behold, I will visit upon Shemaiah of Nehelam, and upon his offspring. There will not be, for him, even one man sitting in the midst of this people. And he will not see the good that I will accomplish for my people, says the Lord. For he has spoken a betrayal against the Lord.”

30:1  The word that came to Jeremiah from YHWH, saying

30:2  'Thus speaketh YHWH, the God of Israel, saying: Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book.

Jer37:2  Thus speaks the Lord God of Israel, saying, Write all the words which I have spoken to thee in a book.

2  “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, saying: You shall write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you.

30:3  For, lo, the days come, saith YHWH, that I will turn the captivity of My people Israel and Judah, saith the YHWH; and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.'

Jer37:3  For, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will bring back the captivity of my people Israel and Juda, said the Lord: and I will bring them back to the land which I gave to their fathers, and they shall be lords of it.

3  For behold, the days are approaching, says the Lord, when I will convert the turning away of my people, Israel and Judah, says the Lord. And I will return them to the land which I gave to their fathers, and they will possess it.”

30:4  And these are the words that YHWH spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah.

30:5  For thus saith YHWH: We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.

Jer37:5  Thus said the Lord: Ye shall hear a sound of fear, there is fear, and there is not peace.

5  For thus says the Lord: ‘We have heard a voice of terror. There is dread, and there is no peace.’

30:6  Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child; wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?

Jer37:6  Enquire, and see if a male has born a child? and ask concerning the fear, wherein they shall hold their loins, and look for safety: for I have seen every man, and his hands are on his loins; their faces are turned to paleness.

6  Inquire and see, does a male give birth? Then why have I seen every man with his hand on his lower back, like a woman bearing a child? And why have all of their faces turned pale?

30:7  Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it; and it is a time of trouble unto Jacob, but out of it shall he be saved.

Jer37:7  For that day is great, and there is not such another; and it is a time of straitness to Jacob; but he shall be saved out of it.

7  Woe! For that day is great, and there is nothing like it. For it is the time of tribulation for Jacob, but he will be saved from it.

30:8  And it shall come to pass in that day, saith YHWH of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bands; and strangers shall no more make him their bondman;

Jer37:8  In that day, said the Lord, I will break the yoke off their neck, and will burst their bonds, and they shall no longer serve strangers

8  And this shall be in that day, says the Lord of hosts: I will crush his yoke from your neck, and I will break open his bands. And strangers will no longer rule over him.

30:9  But they shall serve YHWH their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.

9  Instead, they will serve the Lord their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.

30:10  Therefore fear thou not, O Jacob My servant, saith YHWH; neither be dismayed, O Israel; for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall again be quiet and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.

10  Therefore, O my servant Jacob, you should not be afraid, says the Lord, and you should not be frightened, O Israel. For behold, I will save you from a far away land, and your offspring from the land of their captivity. And Jacob will return and have rest, and he shall flow with every good thing. And there will be no one for him to dread.

30:11  For I am with thee, saith YHWH, to save thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have scattered thee, but I will not make a full end of thee; for I will correct thee in measure, and will not utterly destroy thee.

11  For I am with you, says the Lord, so that I may save you. For I will bring about the consummation of all the nations, among which I have scattered you. But I will not bring about your consummation. Instead, I will chastise you in judgment, so that you will not seem innocent to yourself.”

11  Fear not, O my servant Jacob, says the LORD, for I am with you to save you, says the LORD; for I will make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered you, yet I will not make a full end of you; but I will correct you justly, and will not declare you innocent.

30:12  For thus saith YHWH: Thy hurt is incurable, and thy wound is grievous.

Jer37:12  Thus saith the Lord; I have brought on thee destruction; thy stroke is painful.

12  For thus says the Lord: “Your fracture is incurable; your wound is very serious.

30:13  None deemeth of thy wound that it may be bound up; thou hast no healing medicines.

Jer37:13  There is none to judge thy cause: thou hast been painfully treated for healing, there is no help for thee.

30:14  All thy lovers have forgotten thee, they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one; for the greatness of thine iniquity, because thy sins were increased.

14  All your lovers have forgotten you, and they will not seek you. For I have wounded you with the strike of an enemy, with a cruel chastisement. Your sins have become hardened because of the multitude of your iniquities.

30:15  Why criest thou for thy hurt, that thy pain is incurable? For the greatness of thine iniquity, because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee.

Jer37:15  Thy sins have abounded beyond the multitude of thine iniquities, therefore they have done these things to thee. Therefore all that devour thee shall be eaten, and all thine enemies shall eat all their own flesh.

15  Why do you cry out over your affliction? Your pain is incurable. I have done these things to you because of the multitude of your iniquity and because of your hardened sins.

30:16  Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured, and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey.

Jer37:16  And they that spoil thee shall become a spoil, and I will give up to be plundered all that have plundered thee.

16  Because of this, all those who devour you, will be devoured. And all your enemies will be led into captivity. And those who devastate you, will be devastated. And all those who prey upon you, I will offer as a prey.

30:17  For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith YHWH; because they have called thee an outcast: 'She is Zion, there is none that careth for her.'

Jer37:17  For I will bring about thy healing, I will heal thee of thy grievous wound, saith the Lord; for thou art called Dispersed: she is your prey, for no one seeks after her.

17  For I will close up your scar, and I will heal you of your wounds, says the Lord. For they have called you an outcast, O Zion: ‘This is she who has no one asking for her.’ ”

30:18  Thus saith YHWH: Behold, I will turn the captivity of Jacob's tents, and have compassion on his dwelling-places; and the city shall be builded upon her own mound, and the palace shall be inhabited upon its wonted place.

Jer37:18  Thus said the Lord; Behold, I will turn the captivity of Jacob, and will have pity upon his prisoners; and the city shall be built upon her hill, and the people shall settle after their manner.

18  Thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will turn back the turning away of the tabernacles of Jacob, and I will take pity on his roofs. And the city will be built up in her heights, and the temple will be founded according to its order.

30:19  And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry; and I will multiply them, and they shall not be diminished, I will also increase them, and they shall not dwindle away.

Jer37:19  And there shall go forth from them singers, even the sound of men making merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not at all be diminished.

19  And praise will go forth from them, with the voice of those who play. And I will multiply them, and they will not be lessened. And I will glorify them, and they will not be weakened.

30:20  Their children also shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before Me, and I will punish all that oppress them.

Jer37:20  And their sons shall go in as before, and their testimonies shall be established before me, and I will visit them that afflict them.

20  And their sons will be as in the beginning. And their assembly will remain in my sight. And I will visit against all those who trouble them.

30:21  And their prince shall be of themselves, and their ruler shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto Me; for who is he that hath pledged his heart to approach unto Me? saith YHWH.

30:22  And ye shall be My people, and I will be your God.

30:23  Behold, a storm of YHWH is gone forth in fury, a sweeping storm; it shall whirl upon the head of the wicked.

Jer37:23  For the wrathful anger of the lord has gone forth, even a whirlwind of anger has gone forth: it shall come upon the ungodly.

23  Behold the whirlwind of the Lord, his fury going forth, a destroying storm! It will rest upon the head of the impious.

30:24  The fierce anger of YHWH shall not return, until He have executed, and till He have performed the purposes of His heart; in the end of days ye shall consider it.

Jer37:24  The fierce anger of the Lord shall not return, until he shall execute it, and until he shall establish the purpose of his heart: in the latter days ye shall know these things.

24  The Lord will not turn back the wrath of his indignation, until he has accomplished and completed the plan of his heart. In the last days, you shall understand these things.

31:1  At that time, saith YHWH, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be My people.

1  “In that time, says the Lord, I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they will be my people.”

31:2  Thus saith YHWH: The people that were left of the sword have found grace in the wilderness, even Israel, when I go to cause him to rest.

Jer38:2  Thus saith the Lord, I found him warm in the wilderness with them that were slain with the sword: go ye and destroy not Israel.

2  Thus says the Lord: “The people who had remained after the sword, found grace in the desert. Israel will go to his rest.”

31:3  'From afar YHWH appeared unto me.' 'Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love; therefore with affection have I drawn thee.

Jer38:3  The Lord appeared to him from afar, saying, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore have I drawn thee in compassion.

3  The LORD has appeared to me from afar, saying, Yea, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn you.

31:4  Again will I build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel; again shalt thou be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.

Jer38:4  For I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt yet take thy timbrel, and go forth with the party of them that make merry.

4  And I will build you up again. And you shall be built up, O virgin of Israel. Still shall you be adorned with your timbrels, and still shall you go forth to the singing of those who play.

31:5  Again shalt thou plant vineyards upon the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant, and shall have the use thereof.

Jer38:5  For ye have planted vineyards on the mountains of Samaria: plant ye, and praise.

5  You shall again plant vineyards on the mountain of Samaria. Yea, you will plant vines and sing.

31:6  For there shall be a day, that the watchmen shall call upon the mount Ephraim: arise ye, and let us go up to Zion, unto YHWH our God.'

Jer38:6  For it is a day when those that plead on the mountains of Ephraim shall call, saying, Arise ye, and go up to Sion to the Lord your God.

6  For there will be a day on which the guardians on mount Ephraim will cry out: ‘Arise! And let us ascend on Zion to the Lord our God!’ ”

31:7  For thus saith YHWH: Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout at the head of the nations; announce ye, praise ye, and say: 'O YHWH, save Thy people, The remnant of Israel.'

Jer38:7  For thus saith the Lord to Jacob; Rejoice ye, and exult over the head of the nations: make proclamation, and praise ye: say, The Lord has delivered his people, the remnant of Israel.

7  For thus says the Lord: “Exult in the joy of Jacob, and neigh before the head of the Gentiles. Shout, and sing, and say: ‘O Lord, save your people, the remnant of Israel!’

31:8  Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the uttermost parts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together; a great company shall they return hither.

Jer38:8  Behold, I bring them from the north, and will gather them from the end of the earth to the feast of the passover: and the people shall beget a great multitude, and they shall return hither.

8  Behold, I will lead them from the land of the north, and I will gather them from the ends of the earth. Among them will be the blind and the lame, she who is with child, together with she who is giving birth: a great assembly returning to this place.

31:9  They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them; I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way wherein they shall not stumble; for I am become a father to Israel, and Ephraim is My first-born.

31:10  Hear the word of YHWH, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say: 'He that scattered Israel doth gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock.'

Jer38:10  Hear the words of the Lord, ye nations, and proclaim them to the islands afar off; say, He that scattered Israel will also gather him, and keep him as one that feeds his flock.

10  Listen to the word of the Lord, O Gentiles, and announce it amid the islands that are far away, and say: “Whoever has scattered Israel will gather him, and he will guard him as a shepherd guards his flock.”

31:11  For YHWH hath ransomed Jacob, and He redeemeth him from the hand of him that is stronger than he.

Jer38:11  For the Lord has ransomed Jacob, he has rescued him out of the hand of them that were stronger than he.

31:12  And they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow unto the goodness of YHWH, to the corn, and to the wine, and to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd; and their soul shall be as a watered garden, and they shall not pine any more at all.

12  And they will arrive and give praise on Mount Zion. And they will flow together, to the good things of the Lord, over grain, and wine, and oil, and the offspring of cattle and herds. And their soul will be like an irrigated garden, and they will no longer be hungry.

31:13  Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

Jer38:13  Then shall the virgins rejoice in the assembly of youth, and the old men shall rejoice; and I will turn their mourning into joy, and will make them merry.

13  Then the virgin will rejoice with singing, the young and the old together, and I will turn their mourning into gladness, and I will console them and gladden them after their sorrow.

31:14  And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, saith YHWH.

Jer38:14  I will expand and cheer with wine the soul of the priests the sons of Levi, and my people shall be satisfied with my good things: thus saith the Lord.

31:15  Thus saith YHWH: A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children; she refuseth to be comforted for her children, because they are not.

Jer38:15  A voice was heard in Rama, of lamentation, and of weeping, and wailing; Rachel would not cease weeping for her children, because they are not.

15  Thus says the Lord: “A voice has been heard on high: of lamentation, mourning, and weeping; of Rachel crying for her sons and refusing to be consoled over them, because they are not.”

31:16  Thus saith YHWH: Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears; for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the YHWH; and they shall come back from the land of the enemy.

Jer38:16  Thus saith the Lord; Let thy voice cease from weeping, and thine eyes from thy tears: for there is a reward for thy works; and they shall return from the land of thine enemies.

16  Thus says the Lord: “Let your voice cease from crying and your eyes from tears. For there is a reward for your work, says the Lord. And they will return from the land of the enemy.

31:17  And there is hope for thy future, saith YHWH; and thy children shall return to their own border.

Jer38:17  There shall be an abiding home for thy children.

31:18  I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself: 'Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a calf untrained; turn thou me, and I shall be turned, for Thou art YHWH my God.

Jer38:18  I have heard the sound of Ephraim lamenting, and saying, Thou hast chastened me, and I was chastened; I as a calf was not willingly taught: turn thou me, and I shall turn; for thou art the Lord my God.

18  Listening, I heard Ephraim going into captivity: ‘You have chastised me, and I was instructed, like a young untamed bull. Convert me, and I shall be converted. For you are the Lord my God.

31:19  Surely after that I was turned, I repented, and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh; I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.'

Jer38:19  For after my captivity I repented; and after I knew, I groaned for the day of shame, and shewed thee that I bore reproach from my youth.

19  For after you converted me, I did penance. And after you revealed to me, I struck my thigh. I am confounded and ashamed. For I have endured the disgrace of my youth.’

31:20  Is Ephraim a darling son unto Me? Is he a child that is dandled? For as often as I speak of him, I do earnestly remember him still; Therefore My heart yearneth for him, I will surely have compassion upon him, saith YHWH.

Jer38:20  Ephraim is a beloved son, a pleasing child to me: for because my words are in him, I will surely remember him: therefore I made haste to help him; I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the Lord.

20  Certainly, Ephraim is an honorable son to me; surely, he is a tender child. For I will still remember him, as in the time when I first spoke about him. Because my heart is stirred up over him, surely I will take pity on him, says the Lord.

31:21  Set thee up waymarks, make thee guide-posts; set thy heart toward the high-way, even the way by which thou wentest; Return, O virgin of Israel, return to these thy cities.

Jer38:21  Prepare thyself, O Sion; execute vengeance; look to thy ways: return, O virgin of Israel, by the way by which thou wentest, return mourning to thy cities.

21  Establish a watchtower for yourself. Place yourself in bitterness. Direct your heart into the upright way, in which you used to walk. Return, return, O virgin of Israel, to these your cities!

31:22  How long wilt thou turn away coyly, O thou backsliding daughter? For YHWH hath created a new thing in the earth: a woman shall court a man.

Jer38:22  How long, O disgraced daughter, wilt thou turn away? for the Lord has created safety for a new plantation: men shall go about in safety.

22  How long will you be absorbed in delights, O wandering daughter? For the Lord has created something new upon the earth: a woman will encompass a man.”

31:23  Thus saith YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel: Yet again shall they use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall turn their captivity: 'YHWH bless thee, O habitation of righteousness, O mountain of holiness.'

Jer38:23  For thus saith the Lord; They shall yet speak this word in the land of Juda, and in the cities thereof, when I shall turn his captivity; blessed be the Lord on his righteous holy mountain!

31:24  And Judah and all the cities thereof shall dwell therein together: the husbandmen, and they that go forth with flocks.

31:25  For I have satiated the weary soul, and every pining soul have I replenished.

Jer38:25  For I have saturated every thirsting soul, and filled every hungry soul.

31:26  Upon this I awaked, and beheld; and my sleep was sweet unto me.

Jer38:26  Therefore I awake, and beheld; and my sleep was sweet to me.

26  Over this, I was awakened, as if from a deep sleep. And I saw, and my sleep became sweet to me.

31:27  Behold, the days come, saith YHWH, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast.

Jer38:27  Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Juda with the seed of man, and the seed of beast.

31:28  And it shall come to pass, that like as I have watched over them to pluck up and to break down, and to overthrow and to destroy, and to afflict; so will I watch over them to build and to plant, saith YHWH.

Jer38:28  And it shall come to pass, that as I watched over them, to pull down, and to afflict, so will I watch over them, to build, and to plant, saith the Lord.

28  And just as I have watched over them, so that I may root up, and tear down, and scatter, and destroy, and afflict, so will I watch over them, so that I may build and plant them, says the Lord.

31:29  In those days they shall say no more: 'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.'

31:30  But every one shall die for his own iniquity; every man that eateth the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.

30  Instead, each one will die for his own iniquity. Each man who will have eaten a bitter grape, his own teeth will be affected.

31:31  Behold, the days come, saith YHWH, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah;

31:32  not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; forasmuch as they broke My covenant, although I was a lord over them, saith YHWH.

32  Not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand and brought them out of the land of Egypt; and because they nullified my covenant, so I also despised them, says the LORD;

31:33  But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith YHWH, I will put My law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people;

33  But this will be the covenant that I will form with the house of Israel, after those days, says the Lord: I will give my law to their inner most being, and I will write it upon their heart. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

31:34  and they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying: 'Know YHWH'; for they shall all know Me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the YHWH; for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.

Jer38:34  And they shall not at all teach every one his fellow citizen, and every one his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least of them to the greatest of them: for I will be merciful to their iniquities, and their sins I will remember no more.

34  And they will no longer teach, a man his neighbor, and a man his brother, saying: ‘Know the Lord.’ For all will know me, from the littlest of them even to the greatest, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will no longer remember their sin.

31:35  Thus saith YHWH, Who giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, who stirreth up the sea, that the waves thereof roar, the YHWH of hosts is His name

Jer38:35  Thus saith the Lord, who gives the sun for a light by day, the moon and the stars for a light by night, and makes a roaring in the sea, so that the waves thereof roar; the Lord Almighty is his name

35  Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun as the light of the day, who puts the moon and the stars in order as the light of the night, who stirs up the sea and makes its waves roar: the Lord of hosts is his name.

31:36  If these ordinances depart from before Me, saith YHWH, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before Me for ever.

36  If these laws fail in my sight, says the Lord, then the offspring of Israel will also fail, so that they will not be a people in my sight for all time.”

31:37  Thus saith YHWH: If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then will I also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the YHWH.

Jer38:37  Though the sky should be raised to a greater height, saith the Lord, and though the ground of the earth should be sunk lower beneath, yet I will not cast off the family of Israel, saith the Lord, for all that they have done.

37  Thus says the Lord: “If the heavens above are able to be measured, and if the foundations of the earth beneath can be examined, I also will cast aside all the offspring of Israel, because of all that they have done, says the Lord.

31:38  Behold, the days come, saith YHWH, that the city shall be built to the YHWH from the tower of Hananel unto the gate of the corner.

38  Behold, the days are approaching, says the Lord, when a city will be built for the Lord from the tower of Hananel, even to the Gate of the Corner;

31:39  And the measuring line shall yet go out straight forward unto the hill Gareb, and shall turn about unto Goah.

Jer38:39  And the measurement of it shall proceed in front of them as far as the hills of Gareb, and it shall be compassed with a circular wall of choice stones.

39  and the measuring line will go on even further in his sight, over the hill of Gareb, and it will encircle Goah

31:40  And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the brook Kidron, unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy unto YHWH; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever.

Jer38:40  And all the Asaremoth even to Nachal Kedron, as far as the corner of the horse-gate eastward, shall be holiness to the Lord; and it shall not fail any more, and shall not be destroyed for ever.

40  and the entire Valley of dead bodies and ashes, and the entire region of death, even to the torrent of Kedron, and to the corner of the Horse Gate to the east. All this will be the holy place of the Lord. It will not be rooted up, and it will not be torn down, anymore, forever.”

32:1  The word that came to Jeremiah from YHWH in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar.

Jer39:1  The word that came from the Lord to Jeremias in the tenth year of king Sedekias, this is the eighteenth year of king Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon.

32:2  Now at that time the king of Babylon's army was besieging Jerusalem; and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the king of Judah's house.

Jer39:2  and the host of the king of Babylon had made a rampart against Jerusalem: and Jeremias was kept in the court of the prison, which is in the king’s house;

2  It was then that the army of the king of Babylon besieged Jerusalem. And Jeremiah, the prophet, was confined to the atrium of the prison, which was in the house of the king of Judah.

32:3  For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying: 'Wherefore dost thou prophesy, and say: Thus saith YHWH: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;

3  For Zedekiah, the king of Judah, had confined him, saying: “Why do you make predictions, saying: ‘Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will capture it?

32:4  and Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;

Jer39:4  and Sedekias shall by no means be delivered out of the hand of the Chaldeans, for he shall certainly be given up into the hands of the king of Babylon, and his mouth shall speak to his mouth, and his eyes shall look upon his eyes;

32:5  and he shall lead Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be until I remember him, saith YHWH; though ye fight with the Chaldeans, ye shall not prosper?'

Jer39:5  and Sedekias shall go into Babylon, and dwell there?

5  And he will lead Zedekiah to Babylon. And he will be there until I visit him, says the Lord. So then, if you contend against the Chaldeans, you will have no success.’ ”

32:6  And Jeremiah said: 'The word of YHWH came unto me, saying

Jer39:6  AND THE WORD OF THE LORD CAME TO JEREMIAS, SAYING,

32:7  Behold, Hanamel, the son of Shallum thine uncle, shall come unto thee, saying: Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth; for the right of redemption is thine to buy it.'

Jer39:7  Behold, Anameel the son of Salom thy father’s brother is coming to thee, saying, Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth: for thou hast the right to take it as a purchase.

7  Behold, Nahmael the son of Shallum your uncle is coming to you, saying, Buy my field which is at Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for the right of redemption is yours to buy it.

32:8  So Hanamel mine uncle's son came to me in the court of the guard according to the word of YHWH, and said unto me: 'Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine; buy it for thyself.' Then I knew that this was the word of the YHWH.

Jer39:8  So Anameel the son of Salom my father’s brother came to me into the court of the prison, and said, Buy thee my field that is in the land of Benjamin, in Anathoth: for thou hast a right to buy it, and thou art the elder. So I knew that it was the word of the Lord.

32:9  And I bought the field that was in Anathoth of Hanamel mine uncle's son, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.

32:10  And I subscribed the deed, and sealed it, and called witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances.

Jer39:10  And I wrote it in a book, and sealed it, and took the testimony of witnesses, and weighed the money in the balance.

32:11  So I took the deed of the purchase, both that which was sealed, containing the terms and conditions, and that which was open;

Jer39:11  And I took the book of the purchase that was sealed;

11  And I received the signed deed of possession, and the stipulations, and the ratifications, with the exterior seals.

32:12  and I delivered the deed of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, in the presence of Hanamel mine uncle 's son , and in the presence of the witnesses that subscribed the deed of the purchase, before all the Jews that sat in the court of the guard.

Jer39:12  and I gave it to Baruch son of Nerias, son of Maasaeas, in the sight of Anameel my father’s brother’s son, and in the sight of the men that stood by and wrote in the book of the purchase, and in the sight of the Jews that were in the court of the prison.

12  And I gave the deed of possession to Baruch, the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, in the sight of Hanamel, the son of my uncle, in the sight of the witnesses who had been recorded in the book of the purchase, and in the sight of all the Jews who were sitting in the atrium of the prison.

32:13  And I charged Baruch before them, saying

Jer39:13  And I charged Baruch in their presence, saying, Thus saith the Lord Almighty;

13  And I instructed Baruch, in their sight, saying

32:14  'Thus saith YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel: Take these deeds, this deed of the purchase, both that which is sealed, and this deed which is open, and put them in an earthen vessel; that they may continue many days.

Jer39:14  Take this book of the purchase, and the book that has been read; and thou shalt put it into an earthen vessel, that it may remain many days.

14  Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Take these writings, this sealed deed of purchase, and this deed which is open, and place them in an earthen vessel, so that they will be preserved for many days.’

32:15  For thus saith YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel: Houses and fields and vineyards shall yet again be bought in this land.'

Jer39:15  For thus saith the Lord; There shall yet be bought fields and houses and vineyards in this land.

15  For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Houses, and fields, and vineyards will be possessed still, in this land.’

32:16  Now after I had delivered the deed of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed unto YHWH, saying

Jer39:16  And I prayed to the Lord after I had given the book of the purchase to Baruch the son of Nerias, saying,

16  And after I had delivered the deed of possession to Baruch, the son of Neri, I prayed to the Lord, saying

32:17  'Ah Lord GOD! behold, Thou hast made the heaven and the earth by Thy great power and by Thy outstretched arm; there is nothing too hard for Thee;

Jer39:17  O ever living Lord! thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power, and with thy high and lofty arm: nothing can be hidden from thee.

17  Alas, alas, alas, O Lord God! Behold, you have made heaven and earth, by your great strength and by your outstretched arm. No word is difficult for you.

32:18  who showest mercy unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them; the great, the mighty God, YHWH of hosts is His name;

Jer39:18  Granting mercy to thousands, and recompensing the sins of the fathers into the bosoms of their children after them: the great, the strong God;

32:19  great in counsel, and mighty in work; whose eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men, to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings;

Jer39:19  the Lord of great counsel, and mighty in deeds, the great Almighty God, and Lord of great name: thine eyes are upon the ways of the children of men, to give to every one according to his way

19  You are great in counsel and incomprehensible in thought. Your eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of Adam, so that you may repay each one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his intentions.

32:20  who didst set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, and in Israel and among other men; and madest Thee a name, as at this day;

Jer39:20  who hast wrought signs and wonders in the land of Egypt even to this day, and in Israel, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and thou didst make for thyself a name, as at this day;

20  You caused signs and portents in the land of Egypt, and in Israel, and among men, even until this day. And you have made a name for yourself, just as in this day.

32:21  and didst bring forth Thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terror;

Jer39:21  and thou didst bring out thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, with a mighty hand, and with a high arm, and with great sights;

21  And you have led your people Israel away from the land of Egypt, with signs and portents, and with a robust hand and an outstretched arm, and with great terror.

32:22  and gavest them this land, which Thou didst swear to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey;

22  And you have given them this land, which you swore, to their fathers, that you would give to them, a land flowing with milk and honey.

32:23  and they came in, and possessed it; but they hearkened not to Thy voice, neither walked in Thy law; they have done nothing of all that Thou commandedst them to do; therefore Thou hast caused all this evil to befall them;

32:24  behold the mounds, they are come unto the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans that fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence; and what Thou hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold, Thou seest it.

Jer39:24  Behold, a multitude is come against the city to take it; and the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans that fight against it, by the power of the sword, and the famine: as thou hast spoken, so has it happened.

24  Behold, fortifications were built against the city, so as to capture it. And the city was given into the hands of the Chaldeans, who fight against it, before the face of the sword, and of famine, and of pestilence. And what you have spoken has occurred, just as you yourself discern.

32:25  Yet Thou hast said unto me, O Lord GOD: Buy thee the field for money, and call witnesses; whereas the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.'

Jer39:25  And thou sayest to me, Buy thee the field for money; and I wrote a book, and sealed it, and took the testimony of witnesses: and the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans.

25  So why, O Lord God, are you saying to me: ‘Buy a field with money, and summon witnesses,’ while the city is being given into the hands of the Chaldeans?”

32:26  Then came the word of YHWH unto Jeremiah, saying

Jer39:26  And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

32:27  'Behold, I am YHWH, the God of all flesh; is there any thing too hard for Me?

Jer39:27  I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: shall anything be hidden from me!

27  “Behold, I am the Lord God; I am above all flesh. Can any word be difficult for me?

32:28  Therefore thus saith YHWH: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it;

28  Therefore, thus says the Lord: Behold, I will deliver this city into the hands of the Chaldeans, and into the hands of the king of Babylon, and they will capture it.

32:29  and the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set this city on fire, and burn it, with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered unto Baal, and poured out drink-offerings unto other gods, to provoke Me.

Jer39:29  and the Chaldeans shall come to war against this city, and they shall burn this city with fire, and shall burn down the houses wherein they burnt incense on the roofs thereof to Baal, and poured drink-offerings to other gods, to provoke me.

29  And the Chaldeans fighting against this city will advance, and set fire to it, and burn it, along with the houses on whose roofs they were offering sacrifice to Baal and were pouring out libations to strange gods, so that they provoked me to wrath.

32:30  For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only done that which was evil in My sight from their youth; for the children of Israel have only provoked Me with the work of their hands, saith YHWH.

Jer39:30  For the children of Israel and the children of Juda alone did evil in my sight from their youth.

30  For the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah, from their youth, have continually done evil in my eyes. The sons of Israel, even until now, have been provoking me with the work of their hands, says the Lord.

32:31  For this city hath been to Me a provocation of Mine anger and of My fury from the day that they built it even unto this day, that I should remove it from before My face;

32:32  because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke Me, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Jer39:32  because of all the wickedness of the children of Israel and Juda, which they wrought to provoke me, they and their kings, and their princes, and their priests, and their prophets, the men of Juda, and the dwellers in Jerusalem.

32:33  And they have turned unto Me the back, and not the face; and though I taught them, teaching them betimes and often, yet they have not hearkened to receive instruction.

Jer39:33  And they turned the back to me, and not the face: whereas I taught them early in the morning, but they hearkened no more to receive instructions.

33  And they have turned their backs to me, and not their faces. And though I taught them and instructed them, rising at first light, they were not willing to listen, so that they would receive discipline.

32:34  But they set their abominations in the house whereupon My name is called, to defile it.

Jer39:34  And they set their pollutions in the house, on which my name was called, by their uncleannesses.

34  And they have placed their idols in the house where my name is invoked, so that they defiled it.

32:35  And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to set apart their sons and their daughters unto Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into My mind, that they should do this abomination; to cause Judah to sin.

35  And they have built the exalted places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, so that they may initiate their sons and their daughters into Molech, though I did not command, nor did it enter into my heart, that they should do this abomination, and so lead Judah into sin.

32:36  And now therefore thus saith YHWH, the God of Israel, concerning this city, whereof ye say: It is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence

Jer39:36  And now thus has the Lord God of Israel said concerning this city, of which thou sayest, it shall be delivered into the hands of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by famine, and banishment.

36  And now, because of these things, thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, to this city, about which you say that it will be delivered into the hands of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by famine, and by pestilence

32:37  Behold, I will gather them out of all the countries, whither I have driven them in Mine anger, and in My fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring them back unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely;

32:38  and they shall be My people, and I will be their God;

32:39  and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me for ever; for the good of them, and of their children after them;

39  And I will give to them one heart and one way, so that they may fear me all their days, and so that it may be well with them, and with their sons after them.

32:40  and I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; and I will put My fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from Me.

32:41  Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land in truth with My whole heart and with My whole soul.

Jer39:41  And I will visit them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, and with all my heart, and with all my soul.

32:42  For thus saith YHWH: Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them.

42  For thus says the Lord: Just as I have led over this people all this great evil, so will I lead over them all the good that I am speaking to them now.

32:43  And fields shall be bought in this land, whereof ye say: It is desolate, without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

Jer39:43  And there shall yet be fields bought in the land, of which thou sayest, it shall be destitute of man and beast; and they are delivered into the hands of the Chaldeans.

43  And fields will be possessed in this land, about which you say that it is desolate because there remains neither man nor beast, and because it has been given into the hands of the Chaldeans.

32:44  Men shall buy fields for money, and subscribe the deeds, and seal them, and call witnesses, in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the hill-country, and in the cities of the Lowland, and in the cities of the South; for I will cause their captivity to return, saith YHWH.'

Jer39:44  And they shall buy fields for money, and thou shalt write a book, and seal it, and shalt take the testimony of witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and round about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Juda, and in the cities of the mountain, and in the cities of the plain, and in the cities of the south: for I will turn their captivity.

44  Fields will be bought for money, and deeds will be written and signed, and witnesses will be summoned, in the land of Benjamin and all around Jerusalem, in the cities of Judah, and in the cities on the mountains, and in the cities on the plains, and in the cities that are toward the south. For I will convert their captivity, says the Lord.”

33:1  Moreover the word of YHWH came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the guard, saying

Jer40:1  And the word of the Lord came to Jeremias the second time, when he was yet bound in the court of the prison, saying,

33:2  Thus saith YHWH the Maker thereof, the YHWH that formed it to establish it, the LORD is His name

2  “Thus says the Lord, who will prepare, and form, and accomplish it; the Lord is his name.

2  Thus says the LORD who made you and formed you and established you: the LORD is his name

33:3  Call unto Me, and I will answer thee, and will tell thee great things, and hidden, which thou knowest not.

3  Cry out to me and I will heed you. And I will announce to you great things, things that are certain, though you do not know them.

33:4  For thus saith YHWH, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are broken down for mounds, and for ramparts;

Jer40:4  For thus saith the Lord concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the king of Juda, which have been pulled down for mounds and fortifications,

4  For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, to the houses of this city, and to the houses of the king of Judah, which have been destroyed, and to the fortifications, and to the sword

33:5  whereon they come to fight with the Chaldeans, even to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have slain in Mine anger and in My fury, and for all whose wickedness I have hid My face from this city

Jer40:5  to fight against the Chaldeans, and to fill it with the corpses of men, whom I smote in mine anger and my wrath, and turned away my face from them, for all their wickedness

5  of those who have arrived, so that they may fight with the Chaldeans, and so that they may have their fill of the dead bodies of the men whom I have struck down in my fury and in my indignation, concealing my face from this city, because of all their wickedness

33:6  Behold, I will bring it healing and cure, and I will cure them; and I will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth.

33:7  And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.
