For the Leader. A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart: 'There is no God'; they have dealt corruptly, they have done abominably; there is none that doeth good.

title  For the end, Psalm of David.

The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They have corrupted themselves, and become abominable in their devices; there is none that does goodness, there is not even so much as one.

THE fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have been defiled by their own devices; there is none that does good.

YHWH looked forth from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any man of understanding, that did seek after God.

The Lord looked down from heaven upon the sons of men, to see if there were any that understood, or sought after God.

The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men, to see if there were any who were considering or seeking God.

They are all corrupt, they are together become impure; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

They are all gone out of the way, they are together become good for nothing, there is none that does good, no not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; their feet are swift to shed blood: destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace they have not known: there is no fear of God before their eyes.

They have all gone astray; together they have become useless. There is no one who does good; there is not even one.

'Shall not all the workers of iniquity know it, who eat up My people as they eat bread, and call not upon YHWH?'

Their throat is an open sepulcher. With their tongues, they have been acting deceitfully; the venom of asps is under their lips. Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.

They recognized not the workers of iniquity, who devour my people as one eats bread; and they called not upon the LORD.

There are they in great fear; for God is with the righteous generation.

There were they alarmed with fear, where there was no fear; for God is in the righteous generation.

Their feet are swift to shed blood. Grief and unhappiness are in their ways; and the way of peace, they have not known.

Ye would put to shame the counsel of the poor, but YHWH is his refuge.

Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the Lord is his hope.

There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When YHWH turneth the captivity of His people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

Who will bring the salvation of Israel out of Sion? when the Lord brings back the captivity of his people, let Jacob exult, and Israel be glad.

Who will grant the salvation of Israel from Zion? When the Lord turns away the captivity of his people, Jacob will exult, and Israel will rejoice.

15:1  A Psalm of David. YHWH, who shall sojourn in Thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell upon Thy holy mountain?

LORD, who shall dwell in thy tabernacle? who shall inhabit thy holy mountain?

15:2  He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh truth in his heart;

He that walks blameless, and works righteousness, who speaks truth in his heart.

He who walks without blemish and who works justice.

15:3  That hath no slander upon his tongue, nor doeth evil to his fellow, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour;

Who has not spoken craftily with is tongue, neither has done evil to his neighbour, nor taken up a reproach against them that dwelt nearest to him.

He that deceives not with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor, nor accepts a bribe from his neighbor;

15:4  In whose eyes a vile person is despised, but he honoureth them that fear YHWH; he that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not;

In his sight an evil-worker is set at nought, but he honours them that fear the Lord. He swears to his neighbour, and disappoints him not.

In his sight, the malicious one has been reduced to nothing, but he glorifies those who fear the Lord. He who swears to his neighbor and does not deceive.

15:5  He that putteth not out his money on interest, nor taketh a bribe against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.

He has not lent his money on usury, and has not received bribes against the innocent. He that does these things shall never be moved.

He who has not given his money in usury, nor accepted bribes against the innocent. He who does these things will be undisturbed for eternity.

16:1  Michtam of David. Keep me, O God; for I have taken refuge in Thee.

title  A writing of David.

Keep me, O Lord; for I have hoped in thee.

PRESERVE me, O God; for in thee do I put my trust.

16:2  I have said unto YHWH: 'Thou art my Lord; I have no good but in Thee';

I said to the Lord, Thou art my Lord; for thou has no need of my goodness.

I have said to the Lord: “You are my God, so you have no need of my goodness.”

16:3  As for the holy that are in the earth, they are the excellent in whom is all my delight.

On behalf of the saints that are in his land, he has magnified all his pleasure in them.

I said it also to the saints that are on the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.

16:4  Let the idols of them be multiplied that make suit unto another; their drink-offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take their names upon my lips.

Their weaknesses have been multiplied; afterward they hasted. I will by no means assemble their bloody meetings, neither will I make mention of their names with my lips.

16:5  O YHWH, the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup, Thou maintainest my lot.

The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou art he that restores my inheritance to me.

16:6  The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.

The lots have fallen upon me with clarity. And, indeed, my inheritance has been very clear to me.

My portion of the land fell to me in goodly places; yea, I have been pleased with my heritage.

16:7  I will bless YHWH, who hath given me counsel; yea, in the night seasons my reins instruct me.

I will bless the Lord, who has bestowed understanding upon me. Moreover, my temperament has also corrected me, even through the night.

I will bless the LORD, for he has given me counsel; my intuition also guides me during the night.

16:8  I have set YHWH always before me; surely He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

I foresaw the Lord always before my face; for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved.

I have made provision for the Lord always in my sight. For he is at my right hand, so that I may not be disturbed.

16:9  Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth; my flesh also dwelleth in safety;

Because of this, my heart has been joyful, and my tongue has exulted. Moreover, even my body will rest in hope.

16:10  For Thou wilt not abandon my soul to the nether-world; neither wilt Thou suffer Thy godly one to see the pit.

10  because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

10  For you will not abandon my soul to Hell, nor will you allow your holy one to see corruption.

16:11  Thou makest me to know the path of life; in Thy presence is fulness of joy, in Thy right hand bliss for evermore.

11  Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou wilt fill me with joy with thy countenance: at thy right hand there are delights for ever.

11  You have made known to me the ways of life; you will fill me with joy by your countenance. At your right hand are delights, even to the end.
