Genesis 21:0; 8:1–21:34

M S Sam
G
V

And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that were with him in the ark; and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters assuaged;

And God remembered Noe, and all the wild beasts, and all the cattle, and all the birds, and all the reptiles that creep, as many as were with him in the ark, and God brought a wind upon the earth, and the water stayed.

Then God remembered Noah, and all living things, and all the cattle, which were with him in the ark, and he brought a wind across the earth, and the waters were diminished.

M S Sam

the fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained.

And the fountains of the deep were closed up, and the flood-gates of heaven, and the rain from heaven was withheld.

And the waters returned from off the earth continually; and after the end of a hundred and fifty days the waters decreased.

And the water subsided, and went off the earth, and after an hundred and fifty days the water was diminished, and the ark rested in the seventh month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat.

And the waters were restored to their coming and going from the earth. And they began to diminish after one hundred and fifty days.

M V S Sam
G

And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

And the water continued to decrease until the tenth month.

M S Sam
G
V

And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.

And in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the heads of the mountains were seen.

Yet in truth, the waters were departing and decreasing until the tenth month. For in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tips of the mountains appeared.

M G S Sam

And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made.

And when forty days had passed, Noah, opening the window that he had made in the ark, sent forth a raven,

And he sent forth a raven, and it went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.

which went forth and did not return, until the waters were dried up across the earth.

And he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground.

Likewise, he sent forth a dove after him, in order to see if the waters had now ceased upon the face of the earth.

M S Sam
G
V

But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him to the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth; and he put forth his hand, and took her, and brought her in unto him into the ark.

And the dove not having found rest for her feet, returned to him into the ark, because the water was on all the face of the earth, and he stretched out his hand and took her, and brought her to himself into the ark.

But when she did not find a place where her foot might rest, she returned to him in the ark. For the waters were upon the whole earth. And he extended his hand and caught her, and he brought her into the ark.

M S Sam
G V

10  And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark.

10  And having waited yet seven other days, he again sent forth the dove from the ark.

M G S Sam
V

11  And the dove came in to him at eventide; and lo in her mouth an olive-leaf freshly plucked; so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.

11  And she came to him in the evening, carrying in her mouth an olive branch with green leaves. Noah then understood that the waters had ceased upon the earth.

12  And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; and she returned not again unto him any more.

12  And nevertheless, he waited another seven days. And he sent forth the dove, which no longer returned to him.

13  And it came to pass in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth; and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and behold, the face of the ground was dried.

13  Therefore, in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, the waters were diminished upon the earth. And Noah, opening the cover of the ark, gazed out and saw that the surface of the earth had become dry.

M G V S Sam

14  And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dry.

17  Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee of all flesh, both fowl, and cattle, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may swarm in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.'

17  And all the wild beasts as many as are with thee, and all flesh both of birds and beasts, and every reptile moving upon the earth, bring forth with thee: and increase ye and multiply upon the earth.

17  Bring out with you all the living things that are with you, all that is flesh: as with the birds, so also with the wild beasts and all the animals that move upon the earth. And enter upon the land: increase and multiply upon it.”

19  every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, whatsoever moveth upon the earth, after their families; went forth out of the ark.

19  And all the wild beasts and all the cattle and every bird, and every reptile creeping upon the earth after their kind, came forth out of the ark.

19  Then also all living things, and the cattle, and the animals that move upon the earth, according to their kinds, departed from the ark.

20  And Noah builded an altar unto YHWH; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt-offerings on the altar.

20  And Noe built an altar to the Lord, and took of all clean beasts, and of all clean birds, and offered a whole burnt-offering upon the altar.

20  Then Noah built an altar to the Lord. And, taking from each of the cattle and birds that were clean, he offered holocausts upon the altar.

21  And YHWH smelled the sweet savour; and the YHWH said in His heart: 'I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

21  And the Lord God smelled a smell of sweetness, and the Lord God having considered, said, I will not any more curse the earth, because of the works of men, because the imagination of man is intently bent upon evil things from his youth, I will not therefore any more smite all living flesh as I have done.

21  And the Lord smelled the sweet odor and said: “I will no longer curse the earth because of man. For the feelings and thoughts of the heart of man are prone to evil from his youth. Therefore, I will no longer pierce every living soul as I have done.

22  While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.'

9:5  And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it; and at the hand of man, even at the hand of every man's brother, will I require the life of man.

For your blood of your lives will I require at the hand of all wild beasts, and I will require the life of man at the hand of his brother man.

For I will examine the blood of your lives at the hand of every beast. So also, at the hand of mankind, at the hand of each man and his brother, I will examine the life of mankind.

9:6  Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God made He man.

He that sheds man’s blood, instead of that blood shall his own be shed, for in the image of God I made man.

Whoever will shed human blood, his blood will be poured out. For man was indeed made to the image of God.

22  Because of this, when Ham, the father of Canaan, had indeed seen the privates of his father to be naked, he reported it to his two brothers outside.

9:23  And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness.

11:8  So YHWH scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth; and they left off to build the city.

And the Lord scattered them thence over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city and the tower.

And so the Lord divided them from that place into all the lands, and they ceased to build the city.

11:9  Therefore was the name of it called Babel; because YHWH did there confound the language of all the earth; and from thence did the YHWH scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

On this account its name was called Confusion, because there the Lord confounded the languages of all the earth, and thence the Lord scattered them upon the face of all the earth.

And for this reason, its name was called ‘Babel,’ because in that place the language of the whole earth became confused. And from then on, the Lord scattered them across the face of every region.

21:15  And the water in the bottle was spent, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.

15  And when the water in the skin had been consumed, she set aside the boy, under one of the trees that were there.

21:16  And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bow-shot; for she said: 'Let me not look upon the death of the child.' And she sat over against him, and lifted up her voice, and wept.

16  And she moved away and sat in a distant area, as far as a bow can reach. For she said, “I shall not see the boy die.” And so, sitting opposite her, he lifted up his voice and wept.

21:17  And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her: 'What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.

17  But God heard the voice of the boy. And an Angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, saying: “What are you doing, Hagar? Do not be afraid. For God has heeded the voice of the boy, from the place where he is.

21:18  Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him fast by thy hand; for I will make him a great nation.'

18  Rise up, and take the child, and hold him in thine hand, for I will make him a great nation.

18  Rise up. Take the boy and hold him by the hand. For I will make of him a great nation.”

21:19  And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.

19  Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.

21:20  And God was with the lad, and he grew; and he dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.

20  And God was with the boy; and he grew up and dwelt in the wilderness of Paran and learned to become an archer in the wilderness of Paran.

21:21  And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran; and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

21:22  And it came to pass at that time, that Abimelech and Phicol the captain of his host spoke unto Abraham, saying: 'God is with thee in all that thou doest.

22  At the same time, Abimelech and Phicol, the leader of his army, said to Abraham: “God is with you in everything that you do.

21:23  Now therefore swear unto me here by God that thou wilt not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son; but according to the kindness that I have done unto thee, thou shalt do unto me, and to the land wherein thou hast sojourned.'

23  Now therefore swear to me by God that thou wilt not injure me, nor my seed, nor my name, but according to the righteousness which I have performed with thee thou shalt deal with me, and with the land in which thou hast sojourned.

23  Therefore, swear by God that you will do no harm to me, and to my posterity, and to my stock. But according to the mercy that I have done to you, you will do to me and to the land, to which you have turned as a newcomer.”

21:25  And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of the well of water, which Abimelech's servants had violently taken away.

25  And he reproved Abimelech because of a well of water, which his servants had taken away by force.

21:26  And Abimelech said: 'I know not who hath done this thing; neither didst thou tell me, neither yet heard I of it, but to-day.'

26  And Abimelech responded, “I do not know who did this thing, but you also did not reveal it to me, nor have I heard of it, before today.”

21:27  And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them unto Abimelech; and they two made a covenant.

27  And so Abraham took sheep and oxen, and he gave them to Abimelech. And both of them struck a pact.

21:29  And Abimelech said unto Abraham: 'What mean these seven ewe-lambs which thou hast set by themselves?'

29  Abimelech said to him, “What purpose have these seven female lambs, which you have caused to stand separately?”

29  And Abimeleck said to Abraham, What is the meaning of these seven ewe lambs of the flock which you have set by themselves?

21:30  And he said: 'Verily, these seven ewe-lambs shalt thou take of my hand, that it may be a witness unto me, that I have digged this well.'

30  And Abraam said, Thou shalt receive the seven ewe-lambs of me, that they may be for me as a witness, that I dug this well.

30  But he said, “You will receive seven female lambs from my hand, so that they may be a testimony for me, that I dug this well.”

21:31  Wherefore that place was called Beer-sheba; because there they swore both of them.

31  Therefore he named the name of that place, The Well of the Oath, for there they both swore.

31  For this reason, that place was called Beersheba, because there both of them did swear.

21:32  So they made a covenant at Beer-sheba; and Abimelech rose up, and Phicol the captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.

32  And they made a covenant at the well of the oath. And there rose up Abimelech, Ochozath his friend, and Phichol the commander-in-chief of his army, and they returned to the land of the Phylistines.

32  And they initiated a pact on behalf of the well of oath.

21:33  And Abraham planted a tamarisk-tree in Beer-sheba, and called there on the name of YHWH, the Everlasting God.

33  And Abraam planted a field at the well of the oath, and called there on the name of the Lord, the everlasting God.

33  Then Abimelech and Phicol, the leader of his army, rose up, and they returned to the land of the Palestinians. In truth, Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and there he called upon the name of the Lord God Eternal.
