For, behold, YHWH, YHWH of hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah stay and staff, every stay of bread, and every stay of water;

Behold now, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, will take away from Jerusalem and from Judea the mighty man and mighty woman, the strength of bread, and the strength of water,

For behold, the sovereign Lord of hosts will take away, from Jerusalem and from Judah, the powerful and the strong: all the strength from bread, and all the strength from water;

And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.

And I will make youths their princes, and mockers shall have dominion over them.

And the people shall oppress one another, every man his fellow, and every man his neighbour; the child shall behave insolently against the aged, and the base against the honourable,

And the people shall fall, man upon man, and every man upon his neighbor: the child shall insult the elder man, and the base the honourable.

And the people will rush, man against man, and each one against his neighbor. The child shall rebel against the elder, and the ignoble against the noble.

For a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father: 'Thou hast a mantle, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand.'

For a man will apprehend his brother, from the household of his own father, saying: “The vestment is yours. Be our leader, but let this ruin be under your hand.”

When a man shall take hold of his brother in the house of his father, and say to him, You have clothing, be our ruler, and govern this ruin;

In that day shall he swear, saying: 'I will not be a healer; for in my house is neither bread nor a mantle; ye shall not make me ruler of a people.'

And he shall answer in that day, and say, I will not be thy ruler; for I have no bread in my house, nor raiment: I will not be the ruler of this people.

In that day, he will respond by saying: “I am not a healer, and there is no bread or vestment in my house. Do not choose to appoint me as a leader of the people.”

For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen; because their tongue and their doings are against YHWH, to provoke the eyes of His glory.

The show of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have wrought evil unto themselves.

Wherefore now their glory has been brought low, and the shame of their countenance has withstood them, and they have proclaimed their sin as Sodom, and made it manifest.

The acknowledgement of their countenance is their response. For they have proclaimed their own sin, like Sodom; and they have not concealed it. Woe to their souls! For evils are being repaid to them.

10  Say ye of the righteous, that it shall be well with him; for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

10  Woe to their soul, for they have devised an evil counsel against themselves, saying against themselves, Let us bind the just, for he is burdensome to us: therefore shall they eat the fruits of their works.

10  Tell the just man that it is well, for he shall eat from the fruit from his own plans.

11  Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him; for the work of his hands shall be done to him.

11  Woe to the transgressor! Evils shall happen to him according to the works of his hands.

11  Woe to the impious man immersed in evil! For retribution will be given to him from his own hands.

12  As for My people, a babe is their master, and women rule over them. O My people, they that lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.

12  O my people, your exactors strip you, and extortioners rule over you: O my people, they that pronounce you blessed lead you astray, and pervert the path of your feet.

12  The princes shall pluck my people out, and women shall rule over them. O my people, your leaders have caused you to err, and disturbed the way of your paths.

13  YHWH standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the peoples.

13  But now the Lord will stand up for judgement, and will enter into judgement with his people.

13  The Lord stands for judgment, and he stands to judge the people.

14  YHWH will enter into judgment with the elders of His people, and the princes thereof: 'It is ye that have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses;

14  The Lord himself shall enter into judgement with the elders of the people, and with their rulers: but why have ye set my vineyard on fire, and why is the spoil of the poor in your houses?

14  The Lord will enter into judgment with the elders of his people, and with their leaders. For you have been devouring the vineyard, and the plunder from the poor is in your house.

15  What mean ye that ye crush My people, and grind the face of the poor?' saith YHWH, the GOD of hosts.

15  Why do ye wrong my people, and shame the face of the poor?

16  Moreover YHWH said: Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched-forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet;

16  Thus saith the Lord, Because the daughters of Sion are haughty, and have walked with an outstretched neck, and with winking of the eyes, and motion of the feet, at the same time drawing their garments in trains, and at the same time sporting with their feet

16  And the Lord said: Because the daughters of Zion have been lifted up, and have walked with extended necks and winking eyes, because they have continued on, walking noisily and advancing with a pretentious stride,

17  Therefore YHWH will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and YHWH will lay bare their secret parts.

17  therefore the Lord will humble the chief daughters of Sion, and the Lord will expose their form in that day;

17  the Lord will make the heads of the daughters of Zion bald, and the Lord will strip them of the locks of their hair.

18  In that day YHWH will take away the bravery of their anklets, and the fillets, and the crescents;

18  and the Lord will take away the glory of their raiment, the curls and the fringes, and the crescents,

18  In that day, the Lord will take away their decorative shoes,

24  And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet spices there shall be rottenness; and instead of a girdle rags; and instead of curled hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; branding instead of beauty.

24  And there shall be instead of a sweet smell, dust; and instead of a girdle, thou shalt gird thyself with a rope; and instead of a golden ornament for the head, thou shalt have baldness on account of thy works; and instead of a tunic with a scarlet ground, thou shalt gird thyself with sackcloth.

24  And in place of a sweet fragrance, there will be stench. And in place of a belt, there will be a rope. And in place of stylish hair, there will be baldness. And in place of a blouse, there will be haircloth.

25  Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.

25  And thy most beautiful son whom thou lovest shall fall by the sword; and your mighty men shall fall by the sword, and shall be brought low.

25  Likewise, your most handsome men will fall by the sword, and your strong men will fall in battle.

26  And her gates shall lament and mourn; and utterly bereft she shall sit upon the ground.

26  And the stores of your ornaments shall mourn, and thou shalt be left alone, and shalt be levelled with the ground.

26  And her gates will grieve and mourn. And she will sit on the ground, desolate.
