THESE ARE the words which Moses spoke unto all Israel beyond the Jordan; in the wilderness, in the Arabah, over against Suph, between Paran and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Di-zahab.

It is eleven days journey from Horeb unto Kadesh-barnea by the way of mount Seir.

And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spoke unto the children of Israel, according unto all that YHWH had given him in commandment unto them;

YHWH our God spoke unto us in Horeb, saying: 'Ye have dwelt long enough in this mountain;

The Lord your God spoke to us in Choreb, saying, Let it suffice you to have dwelt so long in this mountain.

turn you, and take your journey, and go to the hill-country of the Amorites and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the Arabah, in the hill-country, and in the Lowland, and in the South, and by the sea-shore; the land of the Canaanites, and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.

Turn ye and depart and enter into the mountain of the Amorites, and go to all that dwell near about Araba, to the mountain and the plain and to the south, and the land of the Chananites near the sea, and Antilibanus, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.

Turn back and go to the mountain of the Amorites, and to the other places which are near it: the plains as well as the mountainous regions, and the low-lying places opposite the south and along the shore of the sea, the land of the Canaanites, and Lebanon, as far as the great river Euphrates.’

Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which YHWH swore unto your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.'

Behold, God has delivered the land before you; go in and inherit the land, which I sware to your fathers, Abraam, and Isaac, and Jacob, to give it to them and to their seed after them.

‘Lo,’ he said, ‘I have delivered it to you. Enter and possess that which the Lord swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, that he would give it to them, and to their offspring after them.’

10  YHWH your God hath multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.--

10  The Lord your God has multiplied you, and, behold, ye are to-day as the stars of heaven for multitude.

11  YHWH, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you, as He hath promised you!--

11  The Lord God of your fathers add to you a thousand-fold more than you are, and bless you as he has spoken to you.

12  How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?

12  How shall I alone be able to bear your labour, and your burden, and your gainsayings?

12  Alone, I do not have the strength to endure your arbitrations and judgments and disputes.

13  Get you, from each one of your tribes, wise men, and understanding, and full of knowledge, and I will make them heads over you.'

13  Take to yourselves wise and understanding and prudent men for your tribes, and I will set your leaders over you.

13  Offer, from among you, wise and experienced men, those whose conversation has been proven within your tribes, so that I may appoint them as your rulers.’

M G Sam

14  And ye answered me, and said: 'The thing which thou hast spoken is good for us to do.'

14  And you answered and said to me, The thing that you have spoken is good for us to do.

15  So I took the heads of your tribes, wise men, and full of knowledge, and made them heads over you, captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens, and officers, tribe by tribe.

15  So I took of you wise and understanding and prudent men, and I set them to rule over you as rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, and rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens, and officers to your judges.

15  And so, I took from your tribes men, wise and noble, and I appointed them as rulers, as tribunes and centurions, and as leaders over fifty and over ten, who would teach you each thing.

M G S Sam

16  And I charged your judges at that time, saying: 'Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.

16  And I instructed them, saying: ‘Listen to them, and judge what is just, whether he is one of your citizens or a sojourner.

17  Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; ye shall hear the small and the great alike; ye shall not be afraid of the face of any man; for the judgment is God's; and the cause that is too hard for you ye shall bring unto me, and I will hear it.'

17  Thou shalt not have respect to persons in judgement, thou shalt judge small and great equally; thou shalt not shrink from before the person of a man, for the judgement is God’s; and whatsoever matter shall be too hard for you, ye shall bring it to me, and I will hear it.

17  There shall be no favoritism to any persons. So you shall listen to the little as well as to the great. And you shall not accept anyone’s reputation, for this is the judgment of God. But if anything seems difficult to you, then refer it to me, and I will hear it.’

M G S Sam

18  And I commanded you at that time all the things which ye should do.

18  And I instructed you in all that you were obliged to do.

19  And we journeyed from Horeb, and went through all that great and dreadful wilderness which ye saw, by the way to the hill- country of the Amorites, as YHWH our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh-barnea.

19  Then, setting out from Horeb, we crossed through a terrible and great wasteland, which you saw along the way of the mountain of the Amorite, just as the Lord our God had instructed us. And when we had arrived at Kadesh-barnea,

21  behold, the Lord your God has delivered to us the land before you: go up and inherit it as the Lord God of your fathers said to you; fear not, neither be afraid.

21  Gaze upon the land that the Lord your God gives to you. Ascend and possess it, just as the Lord our God has spoken to your fathers. Do not be afraid, and do not become terrified by anything.’

M Sam G

22  And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said: 'Let us send men before us, that they may search the land for us, and bring us back word of the way by which we must go up, and the cities unto which we shall come.'

22  And you all approached me and said: ‘Let us send men who may consider the land, and who may report as to the way by which we ought to ascend, and as to which cities we ought to travel.’

M G S Sam

23  And the thing pleased me well; and I took twelve men of you, one man for every tribe;

23  And since the word was pleasing to me, I sent from among you twelve men, one from each tribe.

24  and they turned and went up into the mountains, and came unto the valley of Eshcol, and spied it out.

24  These, when they had set out and had ascended the mountains, arrived as far as the valley of the cluster of grapes. And having considered the land,

25  And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down unto us, and brought us back word, and said: 'Good is the land which YHWH our God giveth unto us.'

26  Yet ye would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of YHWH your God;

26  Yet you were not willing to go there. Instead, being incredulous to the word of the Lord our God,

26  But in spite of this, you would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God;

27  and ye murmured in your tents, and said: 'Because YHWH hated us, He hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

28  Whither are we going up? our brethren have made our heart to melt, saying: The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and fortified up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.'

31  And in the wilderness (as you yourselves saw), the Lord your God carried you, like a man who is accustomed to carrying his little son, along all the way that you walked, until you arrived at this place.’

32  Yet in this thing ye do not believe YHWH your God,

37  Also YHWH was angry with me for your sakes, saying: Thou also shalt not go in thither;

37  And the Lord was angry with me for your sake, saying, Neither shalt thou by any means enter therein.
