1 How long, O YHWH, wilt Thou forget me for ever? How long wilt Thou hide Thy face from me?
title For the end, a Psalm of David.
1 How long, O Lord, wilt thou forget me? for ever? how long wilt thou turn away thy face from me?
1 Unto the end. A Psalm of David. How long, O Lord? Will you forget me until the end? How long will you turn your face away from me?
2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart by day? How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?
2 How long can I take counsel in my soul, sorrowing in my heart throughout the day?
3 How long will my enemy be exalted over me?
3 Behold Thou, and answer me, O YHWH my God; lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;
3 Look on me, hearken to me, O Lord my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep in death;
3 Consider and hear me, O LORD my God; lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep in death,
4 Lest mine enemy say: 'I have prevailed against him'; lest mine adversaries rejoice when I am moved.
4 lest at any time mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him: my persecutors will exult if ever I should be moved.
5 But as for me, in Thy mercy do I trust; my heart shall rejoice in Thy salvation.
5 But I have hoped in thy mercy; my heart shall exult in thy salvation.
5 But I have hoped in your mercy. My heart will exult in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, who assigns good things to me. And I will sing psalms to the name of the Lord Most High.
6 I will sing unto YHWH, because He hath dealt bountifully with me.
6 I will sing to the Lord who has dealt bountifully with me, and I will sing psalms to the name of the Lord most high.
14:1 For the Leader. A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart: 'There is no God'; they have dealt corruptly, they have done abominably; there is none that doeth good.
title For the end, Psalm of David.
1 The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They have corrupted themselves, and become abominable in their devices; there is none that does goodness, there is not even so much as one.
1 THE fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have been defiled by their own devices; there is none that does good.
14:2 YHWH looked forth from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any man of understanding, that did seek after God.
2 The Lord looked down from heaven upon the sons of men, to see if there were any that understood, or sought after God.
2 The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men, to see if there were any who were considering or seeking God.
14:3 They are all corrupt, they are together become impure; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
3 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become good for nothing, there is none that does good, no not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; their feet are swift to shed blood: destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace they have not known: there is no fear of God before their eyes.
3 They have all gone astray; together they have become useless. There is no one who does good; there is not even one.
14:4 'Shall not all the workers of iniquity know it, who eat up My people as they eat bread, and call not upon YHWH?'
4 Their throat is an open sepulcher. With their tongues, they have been acting deceitfully; the venom of asps is under their lips. Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.
4 They recognized not the workers of iniquity, who devour my people as one eats bread; and they called not upon the LORD.
14:5 There are they in great fear; for God is with the righteous generation.
5 There were they alarmed with fear, where there was no fear; for God is in the righteous generation.
5 Their feet are swift to shed blood. Grief and unhappiness are in their ways; and the way of peace, they have not known.
14:6 Ye would put to shame the counsel of the poor, but YHWH is his refuge.
6 Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the Lord is his hope.
6 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
14:7 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When YHWH turneth the captivity of His people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.
7 Who will bring the salvation of Israel out of Sion? when the Lord brings back the captivity of his people, let Jacob exult, and Israel be glad.
7 Who will grant the salvation of Israel from Zion? When the Lord turns away the captivity of his people, Jacob will exult, and Israel will rejoice.
