1  Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness, Thou who didst set me free when I was in distress; be gracious unto me, and hear my prayer.

1  When I called upon him, the God of my righteousness heard me: thou hast made room for me in tribulation; pity me, and hearken to my prayer.

2  O ye sons of men, how long shall my glory be put to shame, in that ye love vanity, and seek after falsehood? Selah

Ps4:2  Sons of men, how long will you be dull in heart, so that whatever you love is in vain, and whatever you seek is false?

2  Men, how long will you obscure my glory? how long will you love vanity? do you want deception forever?

3  But know that YHWH hath set apart the godly man as His own; the YHWH will hear when I call unto Him.

3  But know ye that the Lord has done wondrous things for his holy one: the Lord will hear me when I cry to him.

Ps4:3  And know this: the Lord has made wondrous his holy one. The Lord will heed me when I cry out to him.

4  Tremble, and sin not; commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah

4  Be ye angry, and sin not; feel compunction upon your beds for what ye say in your hearts. Pause.

Ps4:4  Be angry, and do not be willing to sin. The things that you say in your hearts: be sorry for them on your beds.

5  Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in YHWH.

Ps4:5  Offer the sacrifice of justice, and hope in the Lord. Many say, “Who reveals to us what is good?”

6  Many there are that say: 'Oh that we could see some good!' YHWH, lift Thou up the light of Thy countenance upon us.

6  Many say, Who will shew us good things? the light of thy countenance, O Lord, has been manifested towards us.

Ps4:6  The light of your countenance, Lord, has been sealed upon us. You have given joy to my heart.

7  Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than when their corn and their wine increase.

Ps4:7  By the fruit of their grain, wine, and oil, they have been multiplied.

7  O LORD, thou hast put gladness in my heart more than in the time that their wheat and their wine and their oil increased.

8  In peace will I both lay me down and sleep; for Thou, YHWH, makest me dwell alone in safety.

8  I will both lie down in peace and sleep: for thou, Lord, only hast caused me to dwell securely.

8  In peace itself, I will sleep and I will rest.

9  For you, O Lord, have established me singularly in hope.

5:2  Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God; for unto Thee do I pray.

2  Attend to the voice of my supplication, my King, and my God: for to thee, O Lord, will I pray.

5:3  O YHWH, in the morning shalt Thou hear my voice; in the morning will I order my prayer unto Thee, and will look forward.

Ps5:3  For to you, I will pray. In the morning, Lord, you will hear my voice.

5:4  For Thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness; evil shall not sojourn with Thee.

Ps5:4  In the morning, I will stand before you, and I will see. For you are not a God who wills iniquity.

5:5  The boasters shall not stand in Thy sight; Thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

5  Neither shall the transgressors continue in thy sight: thou hatest, O Lord, all them that work iniquity.

Ps5:5  And the malicious will not dwell close to you, nor will the unjust endure before your eyes.

5:6  Thou destroyest them that speak falsehood; YHWH abhorreth the man of blood and of deceit.

Ps5:6  You hate all who work iniquity. You will destroy all who speak a lie. The bloody and deceitful man, the Lord will abominate.

5:7  But as for me, in the abundance of Thy lovingkindness will I come into Thy house; I will bow down toward Thy holy temple in the fear of Thee.

7  But I will enter into thine house in the multitude of thy mercy: I will worship in thy fear toward thy holy temple.

Ps5:7  But I am in the multitude of your mercy. I will enter your house. I will show adoration toward your holy temple, in your fear.

5:8  O YHWH, lead me in Thy righteousness because of them that lie in wait for me; make Thy way straight before my face.

8  Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make my way plain before thy face.

Ps5:8  Lord, lead me in your justice. Because of my enemies, direct my way in your sight.

5:9  For there is no sincerity in their mouth; their inward part is a yawning gulf, their throat is an open sepulchre; they make smooth their tongue.

9  For there is no truth in their mouth; their heart is vain; their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit.

5:10  Hold them guilty, O God, let them fall by their own counsels; cast them down in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against Thee.

10  Judge them, O God; let them fail of their counsels: cast them out according to the abundance of their ungodliness; for they have provoked thee, O Lord.

Ps5:10  Their throat is an open sepulcher. They have acted deceitfully with their tongues. Judge them, O God. Let them fall by their own intentions: according to the multitude of their impiety, expel them. For they have provoked you, O Lord.

5:11  So shall all those that take refuge in Thee rejoice, they shall ever shout for joy, and Thou shalt shelter them; let them also that love Thy name exult in Thee.

11  But let all that trust on thee be glad in thee: they shall exult for ever, and thou shalt dwell among them; and all that love thy name shall rejoice in thee.

Ps5:11  But let all those who hope in you rejoice. They will exult in eternity, and you will dwell in them. And all those who love your name will glory in you.

5:12  For Thou dost bless the righteous; O YHWH, Thou dost encompass him with favour as with a shield.

Ps5:12  For you will bless the just. You have crowned us, O Lord, as if with a shield of your good will.

12  For thou wilt bless the righteous; O LORD, thou hast adorned me like a perfect shield.

6:2  Be gracious unto me, O YHWH, for I languish away; heal me, O LORD, for my bones are affrighted.

2  Pity me, O Lord; for I am weak: heal me, O Lord; for my bones are vexed.

Ps6:2  Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, Lord, for my bones have become disturbed,

6:3  My soul also is sore affrighted; and Thou, O YHWH, how long?

Ps6:3  and my soul has been very troubled. But as for you, Lord, when?

3  My soul is also troubled exceedingly but thou, O LORD, how long?

6:4  Return, O YHWH, deliver my soul; save me for Thy mercy's sake.

Ps6:4  Turn to me, Lord, and rescue my soul. Save me because of your mercy.

6:5  For in death there is no remembrance of Thee; in the nether-world who will give Thee thanks?

5  For in death no man remembers thee: and who will give thee thanks in Hades?

Ps6:5  For there is no one in death who would be mindful of you. And who will confess to you in Hell?

6:6  I am weary with my groaning; every night make I my bed to swim; I melt away my couch with my tears.

6  I am wearied with my groaning; I shall wash my bed every night; I shall water my couch with tears.

Ps6:6  I have labored in my groaning. Every night, with my tears, I will wash my bed and drench my blanket.

6:7  Mine eye is dimmed because of vexation; it waxeth old because of all mine adversaries.

Ps6:7  My eye has been troubled by rage. I have grown old among all my enemies.

6:8  Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for YHWH hath heard the voice of my weeping.

Ps6:8  Scatter before me, all you who work iniquity, for the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping.

6:9  YHWH hath heard my supplication; YHWH receiveth my prayer.

9  The Lord has hearkened to my petition; the Lord has accepted my prayer.

6:10  All mine enemies shall be ashamed and sore affrighted; they shall turn back, they shall be ashamed suddenly.

10  Let all mine enemies be put to shame and sore troubled: let them be turned back and grievously put to shame speedily.

Ps6:10  Let all my enemies be ashamed and together be greatly troubled. May they be converted and become ashamed very quickly.
