Compositeur

Samuel Sebastian Wesley (14 août 1810-19 avril 1876) est un organiste, chef de chœur et compositeur anglais. De son vivant, il composa presque exclusivement pour l'Église d'Angleterre, qui continue de chérir sa mémoire. Ses hymnes mieux connus incluent “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace” et “Wash me throughly”. Cette hymne est chantée dans l'église Saint Thomas de New-York, par "Seabury Academy, Choristers, Norwalk, CT, St. Paul's on the Green, Episcopal Church, Norwalk" par 100 choristes.

Composition

John Rutter est né à Londres en 1945 et a étudié la musique au Clare College de Cambridge. Ses compositions embrassent la musique chorale, orchestrale et instrumentale, et il a édité ou co-édité diverses anthologies chorales, y compris quatre volumes de Carols for Choirs avec Sir David Willcocks et la série Oxford Choral Classics. De 1975 à 1979, il a été directeur de la musique au Clare College et, en 1981, il a formé sa propre chorale, les Cambridge Singers. Il partage maintenant son temps entre la composition et la direction et est recherché comme chef invité pour les plus grands chœurs et orchestres du monde.
