1 A Song of Ascents. YHWH, remember unto David all his affliction;
title A Song of Degrees.
1 Lord, remember David, and all his meekness
1 LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions
2 How he swore unto YHWH, and vowed unto the Mighty One of Jacob
2 how he sware to the Lord, and vowed to the God of Jacob, saying,
3 'Surely I will not come into the tent of my house, nor go up into the bed that is spread for me;
3 I will not go into the tabernacle of my house; I will not go up to the couch of my bed;
3 I shall not enter into the tabernacle of my house, nor climb into the bed where I lie down;
4 I will not give sleep to mine eyes, nor slumber to mine eyelids;
5 Until I find out a place for YHWH, a dwelling-place for the Mighty One of Jacob.'
5 and rest to my temples, until I find a place for the Lord, a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.
6 Lo, we heard of it as being in Ephrath; we found it in the field of the wood.
6 Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah. We discovered it in the fields of the forest.
7 Let us go into His dwelling-place; let us worship at His footstool.
7 Let us enter into his tabernacles: let us worship at the place where his feet stood.
7 We will enter into his tabernacle. We will adore in the place where his feet stood.
8 Arise, O YHWH, unto Thy resting-place; Thou, and the ark of Thy strength.
8 Rise up, O Lord, into your resting place. You and the ark of your sanctification.
9 Let Thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let Thy saints shout for joy.
9 Thy priests shall clothe themselves with righteousness; and thy saints shall exult.
9 Let your priests be clothed with justice, and let your saints exult.
10 For Thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of Thine anointed.
10 For the sake of your servant David, do not turn away the face of your Christ.
11 YHWH swore unto David in truth; He will not turn back from it: 'Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.
11 The Lord sware in truth to David, and he will not annul it, saying, Of the fruit of thy body will I set a king upon thy throne.
11 The Lord has sworn the truth to David, and he will not disappoint: I will set upon your throne from the fruit of your lineage.
12 If thy children keep My covenant and My testimony that I shall teach them, their children also for ever shall sit upon thy throne.'
12 If your sons will keep my covenant and these, my testimonies, which I will teach to them, then their sons will sit upon your throne even forever.
13 For YHWH hath chosen Zion; He hath desired it for His habitation
13 For the Lord has elected Sion, he has chosen her for a habitation for himself, saying,
13 For the Lord has chosen Zion. He has chosen it as his dwelling place.
14 'This is My resting-place for ever; here will I dwell; for I have desired it.
14 This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have chosen it.
15 I will abundantly bless her provision; I will give her needy bread in plenty.
15 I will surely bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.
15 When blessing, I will bless her widow. I will satisfy her poor with bread.
16 Her priests also will I clothe with salvation; and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.
16 I will clothe her priests with salvation; and her saints shall greatly exult.
17 There will I make a horn to shoot up unto David, there have I ordered a lamp for Mine anointed.
17 There, I will produce a horn to David. There, I have prepared a lamp for my Christ.
17 There shall I make the horn of David to shine, and light a lamp for his anointed?
18 His enemies will I clothe with shame; but upon himself shall his crown shine.'
18 I will clothe his enemies with confusion. But my sanctification will flourish over him.
