Psalms 81:1–17

For the Leader; upon the Gittith. A Psalm of Asaph. Sing aloud unto God our strength; shout unto the God of Jacob.

title  For the end, a Psalm for Asaph, concerning the wine-presses.

Rejoice ye in God our helper; shout aloud to the God of Jacob.

SING aloud to God our strength; make a joyful noise to the God of Jacob.

Take up the melody, and sound the timbrel, the sweet harp with the psaltery.

Take a psalm, and produce the timbrel, the pleasant psaltery with the harp.

Ps80:2  Take up a psalm, and bring forth the timbrel: a pleasing Psalter with stringed instruments.

Blow the horn at the new moon, at the full moon for our feast-day.

Ps80:3  Sound the trumpet at the new moon, on the noteworthy day of your solemnity,

Blow trumpets in the new moon in the time appointed, on our solemn feast days.

For it is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.

For this was a statute for Israel and a law of the God of Jacob.

He appointed it in Joseph for a testimony, when He went forth against the land of Egypt. The speech of one that I knew not did I hear

He made it to be a testimony in Joseph, when he came forth out of the land of Egypt: he heard a language which he understood not.

'I removed his shoulder from the burden; His hands were freed from the basket.

He removed his back from burdens: his hands slaved in making the baskets.

Ps80:6  He turned the burdens away from his back. His hands had been a slave to baskets.

Thou didst call in trouble, and I rescued thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder; I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah

Ps80:7  You called upon me in tribulation, and I freed you. I heard you within the hidden tempest. I tested you with waters of contradiction.

He called on me in trouble, and I delivered him; I sheltered him under my glorious cover; I tested him at the waters of dispute.

Hear, O My people, and I will admonish thee: O Israel, if thou wouldest hearken unto Me!

Hear, my people, and I will speak to thee, O Israel; and I will testify to thee: if thou wilt hearken to me;

Ps80:8  My people, listen and I will call you to testify. If, O Israel, you will pay heed to me,

There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any foreign god.

Ps80:9  then there will be no new god among you, nor will you adore a foreign god.

10  I am YHWH thy God, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt; open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

10  For I am the Lord thy God, that brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

11  But My people hearkened not to My voice; and Israel would none of Me.

Ps80:11  But my people did not hear my voice, and Israel was not attentive to me.

12  So I let them go after the stubbornness of their heart, that they might walk in their own counsels.

Ps80:12  And so, I sent them away, according to the desires of their heart. They will go forth according to their own inventions.

12  So they walked according to the desires of their own hearts and according to their own counsels.

13  Oh that My people would hearken unto Me, that Israel would walk in My ways!

13  If my people had hearkened to me, if Israel had walked in my ways,

14  I would soon subdue their enemies, and turn My hand against their adversaries.

14  I should have put down their enemies very quickly, and should have laid my hand upon those that afflicted them.

Ps80:14  I would have humbled their enemies, as if it were nothing, and I would have sent my hand upon those who troubled them.

15  The haters of YHWH should dwindle away before Him; and their punishment should endure for ever.

15  The Lord’s enemies should have lied to him: but their time shall be for ever.

Ps80:15  The enemies of the Lord have lied to him, and their time will come, in every age.

16  They should also be fed with the fat of wheat; and with honey out of the rock would I satisfy thee.'

16  And he fed them with the fat of wheat; and satisfied them with honey out of the rock.

16  He has fed them also with the finest of the wheat; and with honey out of the rock has he satisfied them.
