21 They forgot God their saviour, who had done great things in Egypt;
22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, terrible things by the Red Sea.
22 miracles in the land of Ham, terrible things at the Red Sea.
23 Therefore He said that He would destroy them, had not Moses His chosen stood before Him in the breach, to turn back His wrath, lest He should destroy them.
23 So he said that he would have destroyed them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn him away from the fierceness of his anger, so that he should not destroy them.
23 And he said that he would destroy them, yet Moses, his elect, stood firm before him in the breach, in order to avert his wrath, lest he destroy them.
24 Moreover, they scorned the desirable land, they believed not His word;
24 And they held the desirable land to be nothing. They did not trust in his word.
24 Yea, they despised the desired land, they believed not his word,
25 And they murmured in their tents, they hearkened not unto the voice of YHWH.
25 But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not to the voice of the LORD.
26 Therefore He swore concerning them, that He would overthrow them in the wilderness;
26 So he lifted up his hand against them, to cast them down in the wilderness;
26 And he lifted up his hand over them, in order to prostrate them in the desert,
27 And that He would cast out their seed among the nations, and scatter them in the lands.
27 and in order to cast their offspring among the nations, and to scatter them among the regions.
28 They joined themselves also unto Baal of Peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.
28 They were joined also to Beelphegor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead. And they provoked him with their devices;
28 And they were initiated into Baal of Peor, and they ate the sacrifices of the dead.
29 Thus they provoked Him with their doings, and the plague broke in upon them.
29 and destruction, was multiplied among them.
29 And they provoked him with their inventions, and ruination was multiplied in them.
30 Then stood up Phinehas, and wrought judgment, and so the plague was stayed.
30 Then Phinees stood up, and made atonement: and the plague ceased.
30 Then Phinehas stood up and placated him: and so the violent disturbance ceased.
31 And that was counted unto him for righteousness, unto all generations for ever.
31 And it was reputed to him unto justice, from generation to generation, even forever.
32 They angered Him also at the waters of Meribah, and it went ill with Moses because of them;
32 They provoked him also at the water of Strife, and Moses was hurt for their sakes;
32 And they provoked him at the Waters of Contradiction, and Moses was afflicted because of them,
33 For they embittered his spirit, and he spoke rashly with his lips.
33 Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spoke unadvisedly with his lips.
34 They did not destroy the peoples, as YHWH commanded them;
34 They destroyed not the nations which the Lord told them to destroy;
34 And they did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them;
35 But mingled themselves with the nations, and learned their works;
35 but were mingled with the heathen, and learned their works.
35 And they were mixed among the Gentiles. And they learned their works,
36 And they served their idols, which became a snare unto them;
37 Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto demons,
37 And they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to devils,
38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood.
38 And they shed innocent blood: the blood of their sons and of their daughters, which they sacrificed to the graven images of Canaan. And the land was infected with bloodshed,
39 Thus were they defiled with their works, and went astray in their doings.
39 and was polluted with their works; and they went a whoring with their own devices.
39 and was contaminated with their works. And they fornicated according to their own inventions.
40 Therefore was the wrath of YHWH kindled against His people, and He abhorred His inheritance.
40 So the Lord was very angry with his people, and he abhorred his inheritance.
40 And the Lord became furiously angry with his people, and he abhorred his inheritance.
41 And He gave them into the hand of the nations; and they that hated them ruled over them.
41 And he delivered them into the hands of their enemies; and they that hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were subdued under their hand.
42 Ands their enemies oppressed them, and they were brought down under their hands.
42 And their enemies afflicted them, and they were humbled under their hands.
43 Many times did He deliver them; but they were rebellious in their counsel, and sank low through their iniquity.
43 Many a time he delivered them; but they provoked him by their counsel, and they were brought low by their iniquities.
44 Nevertheless He looked upon their distress, when He heard their cry;
44 Ye the Lord looked upon their affliction, when he heard their petition.
44 And he saw that they were in tribulation, and he heard their prayer.
45 And He remembered for them His covenant, and repented according to the multitude of His mercies.
45 And he was mindful of his covenant, and he repented according to the multitude of his mercies.
46 He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captive.
46 And he caused them to be pitied in the sight of all who carried them captive.
46 And he provided for them with mercies, in the sight of all those who had seized them.
47 Save us, O YHWH our God, and gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks unto Thy holy name, that we may triumph in Thy praise.
47 Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from the nations, so that we may confess your holy name and glory in your praise.
48 Blessed be YHWH, the God of Israel, from everlasting even to everlasting, and let all the people say: 'Amen.' Hallelujah.
48 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting and to everlasting; and all the people shall say, Amen, Amen.
